This is lovely. Don't panic. Trust yourself. But you need the love of others to do that. And Daniel pays his respect to that solidarity. It's the main lesson of most Japanese narrative: we can make it together. That's a social learning.
The novel described this as a much more even fight. Daniel realized that as the fight wore on that Barnes scored whenever he could use hard techniques to hit. Daniel scored when he used soft or fluid techniques to counter. He also realized after Miyagi's advice on best Karate and fear that Mike's aggression covered his sloppy technique as if he only ever practiced the fighting, not kihon and kata. @@giornikitop5373 Barnes was supposed to be a highly athletic and talented fighter. I don't know if I would label him a prodigy. But when you focus on just the Kumite aspects of karate or similar martial arts, you don't develop the refinement of technique that someone who is well trained in the aspects of kihon (fundamentals) and Kata (forms) will develop especially when paired with Bunkai (application of technique). Barnes shows this here when he kicks primarily. His moves are fast to be sure but sharp and choppy with no proper extension and focus. He probably got to the point of deciding what was good enough with his athleticism and didn't push himself to get better. Combine that attitude (especially if his teachers allowed it with him winning tournaments) with a lack of good fundamentals, you get a sloppy but winning fighter.
If you look at it logically Mike Barnes didn't really have personal problem with Daniel like Johnny and chosen. It was just a business agreement to Mike. He only kicked his arse through the movie because Daniel wouldn't sign the papers for all valley and therefore would have cost Mike a lot of money through his agreement with Terry silver
Mike did everything to keep Daniel in the fight. Including getting down on the ground and encouraging him to get back up. Like a drill sergeant. That had just kicked his ass.

@@mikeymutual5489 Nah, he'll play a good part in season 6, they wouldn't have bothered bringing him back if he wasn't going to be in the sekai takai otherwise.
@@mikeymutual5489 You have to look at the pattern of how they flesh out characters on the show. They never make it short or half assed. Chozen had a small part in Season 3 and then season 5 gives him a bigger role and expands on his backstory. No reason in the world they can't or won't do the same with Mike. Literally everyone else has been fleshed out extensively. Mike becoming the fourth sensei actually makes perfect sense for 3 reasons. 1) His store is still ashes. What's he doing while it's being rebuilt, twiddling his thumbs? 2) His dynamics with Johnny and Chozen were big hits, and could be expanded on easily. Plus him coming along would give the good side 2 defensive senseis and 2 offensive senseis. Perfect balance. 3) The most important reason of all. Daniel and Johnny have only completed on a local county level, and Chozen has spent most of his life teaching. Mike is the only character in the franchise who has competed on a larger stage. He was a national champion at 17. The kids are about to jump from the local level straight up to the global level. If there's any sensei who can teach the kids about competing on a bigger stage, it's Mike. We can also see flashbacks of his youth and how he became what we saw in Part 3. We don't know too much about him. Much to explore.
@@mikeymutual5489 That response likely means you're trolling, but what the hell. There is no reason in this world Mike would not qualify as a sensei. As for running his business, thank you for pretending I didn't cover the fact that his business is still ashes. Takes time to rebuild. In part 2 Daniel literally had a fight to the death and faced it with less fear than in a controlled suburban tournament... Miyagi should have broken out a drum!!! LOL.
Say what you want about this movie! But the final scene where Miyagi coaches him one last time and Daniel bows and does his Kata, added with this great score.its just magic! Makes me tear up everytime ❤ an somewhat kinda OK movie that i like , but an fcking awesome ending which i love🎉🎉🎉
Daniel was scared of johnny but had nothing to lose, so he didn't expect to win until they got dq He was petrified of Dutch much like Barnes He didn't show fear to chosen because he was fighting for kumiko so he had bo time to think Barnes used speed much like johnny and Daniel was all defence But with Barnes he tried to attack and realised he had no counter attack moves and fear overwhelmed him
That’s the point, his over-cockiness lead him to lose. He cared more about giving Daniel injuries for life than winning the competition, whereas Daniel cared solely on respect and winning.

Terry: "Kata's useless in a real tournament." Daniel: *Wins the tournament by using Kata* Just goes to show how even if Mike could beat Daniel up, Daniel still understood far more of what Karate is all about. Peace, balance, and a clear state of mind. Something Mike and the rest of Cobra Kai at the time could never understand
Barne's karate wasn't anything special, very basic in fact. Johnny and the other Cobra Kai's showed more advance skills. While they were brash and punks however, they weren't a brute like Barnes is. This was Barnes advantage over all of them, including Daniel. He just intimidates and overpowers his opponent, like a battering ram. After their first encounter, Daniel lost confidence quickly when he realized he couldn't hurt Barnes. Miyagi was wise to realize that Daniel's biggest problem was fear so instead of teaching him some new fancy technique like the crane kick or drum technique, he practiced boring kata with Daniel instead. This was beneficial to help divert his mind from fear and reset his focus towards his opponent's next move.
You all forget that Mike wasn't simply fighting for a win. Under Silver's instructions, Mike's aim was to cause Daniel maximum Pain. So b4 Daniel whipped out his Kata, Mike didn't really care about the Match's outcome.
@@jcpenny3606 The bad guys having lackluster karate was a cliche back in that era. The good guy who trained with some rando in a backyard would always end up being much more skilled than the studio guys who had been training for years.
@@MU_STL_FAN1 "It’s true, though. Kata is artistic, and is useless in a real fight. " Nah, man. I didn't do Karate, but I did study ITF Taekwondo for about two years, a little more than that. And when I've had to use it in real life, it's worked great. My story is a lot like Daniel LaRusso, so I relate to this movie a lot. I had a lot of bullies growing up, then I learned Taekwondo and started using it on them in high school and they finally left me alone. Never competed in a tournament though. (one of the reasons why I say, if a given style isn't used in MMA, that means nothing. A lot of stuff is effective but not used in MMA. Are you going to tell me Israeli Special Forces can't fight hand to hand, because Krav Maga is not represented in MMA? I don't think so.) Taekwondo is basically Korean Karate, heavily influenced by Karate, so I figure if Taekwondo works, so does Karate. You have to differentiate forms (in Korean, "pomsae") from how you actually fight. For example, according to the form, in order to do a middle block, like to block a strike to your chest, you have to pull your arms back, chamber, step forward and throw out the block. In sparring, you would be in a boxer stance to begin with, and maybe just swing your hips slightly to deflect the force of the blow. Plus the form has stances like cat stance that nobody really uses in sparring. At least at my studio, our stance for sparring was basically a boxer or kickboxer stance. TKD, like Karate has two different rulesets....there's WTF, where you basically have your hands hanging at your sides because you're not going to use them, and it's all kicking and sidestepping, and then you have ITF, where you have your hands up like a boxer, because you're going to use them to block and to deliver hand and elbow strikes at close range. Karate has "sport karate", where you break after each point, and it's more about going fast, and then "full contact Karate", where you start closer than kicking distance and can't strike the head.
I picture Mike being on such a karate high from the events of the season 5 finale that while he’s waiting for his store to be rebuilt and finds out Kreese has escaped prison he’s going to volunteer to help Daniel and Johnny considering Kreese was going along with Silver’s shenanigans

Well, 'best'. It is not even good imo, it is entertaining though. I mean the acting is bad, the action is really not realistic, and there are many more flaws. It still is very entertaining somehow.

The music is so underrated in this scene. It makes it more impactful.
Especially when Daniel starts the kata. Perfect....
3:02. The fan kid screaming "come on Barnes" always gets to me. Lol I bet you that kid watches this scene everyday ever since. I know I would
lol I find it hilarious. He literally shouts that after Mike pushes him to Silver and Kreese which was bad timing but hilarious 😂
I think the kid was siding with Barnes and wanted him to finish Daniel off once and for all!!!
It’s crazy how these two are allies now.
Absolutely love that line... It s ok to lose to opponent but not lose to fear! A very true expression that is timeless. When Mijagi got serious and needed to get Daniel's attention he ALWAYS GOT IT! Daniel knew he had better listen to his mentor. I tear up everytime I hear this exchange between the two.
"Hey ref how can he do that?! He can't do that!" Lol, always loved that random guy in the audience!!!
Me too. Earlier in the fight after Barnes catches Daniel's kick and then kicks Daniel in the family jewels, that same guy shouts "You're dirty Barnes, he's gonna get you because you're dirty!"
I've never heard that guy before whenever I watched this movie I love that
I like how it's only when Barnes starts ragging on Mr. Miyagi that Daniel finds the will to get up.
Daniel: He's owned me this whole fight. I can get up, but I can't see myself winning...
Barnes: Your teacher's sh*t!
Daniel: Aw HELL naw!!
I noticed that too and honestly I find it very relatable. I was bullied when I was younger and I didn't defend myself (I guess I didn't think I deserved it), but when my bullies started hurting others around me to get to me, it sent me into a rage which drove me to finally confront them. After that incident, they mostly left me alone (other than commenting to try to start shit that went nowhere).
It s cause he loves respects and cares for Miyagi so Mike insulting him was crossing the line with Daniel

3:26 "Get up you candy-ass hipster!"
So Daniel used Bunkai (application) to trap him for the final point.
I remember the novel bore little resemblance to the film but the chapter describing the last fight was very well done
Cool!
I remember 15 years ago people would make fun of this movie saying Ralph Macchio was too old and overweight to be playing a teenager in KK3. But the movie just has so many memorable moments regardless. "Okay to lose to opponent, must not lose to fear" is the quote of the film. Mr. Miyagi-isms are what makes the movie.

@@danielhaire6677sloppy technique? wasn't barnes supposed to be a multiple dan prodigy or something like that?
6:15 I can't stop laughing at the way Kreese throws the shirt back
I loved how this scene was used to help Sam with her fears of Tory
The fact that Mike was the most brutal and aggressive to Daniel out of Johnny and Chozen yet he easily changes in Cobra Kai to be good is mindblowing
If you look at it logically Mike Barnes didn't really have personal problem with Daniel like Johnny and chosen. It was just a business agreement to Mike. I wish Mike had a bigger role in season 5 of Cobra Kai. Hope we see more of him in season 6 and beyond. You have to look at the pattern of how they flesh out characters on the show.
@@mikeymutual5489
That response likely means you're trolling, but what the hell. There is no reason in this world Mike would not qualify as a sensei. As for running his business, thank you for pretending I didn't cover the fact that his business is still ashes. Takes time to rebuild. By your logic, Chozen wouldn't be in the US, but back in Okinawa teaching at his dojo. Nice fail buddy. You'd do best to humble up.

The point I think most people miss is that Mr Miyagi always kept Daniel in check and to never go overboard and lose himself, now he’s telling him that he knows what to do and to cut loose.

I know this is only a movie, but I can't imagine the humiliation Daniel must have felt when Mike Barnes was beating him up like that. I did like when Mike Barnes apologized to Daniel in cobra kia series 5th season. That was nice of him.
Mike Barnes is basically the Karate Kid version of Ivan Drago
Ref: "Do that again Barnes and you're disqualified!"
Barnes: "If he dies, he dies"
Not really . At least Drago respected his opponent at the end even if he killed his best friend lol
Barnes is pure evil
Daniel was scared of johnny but had nothing to lose, so he didn't expect to win until they got dq
He was petrified of Dutch much like Barnes
He didn't show fear to chosen because he was fighting for kumiko so he had bo time to think
Barnes used speed much like johnny and Daniel was all defence
But with Barnes he tried to attack and realised he had no counter attack moves and fear overwhelmed him
Barnes was Daniel’s worst nightmare 😂 He literally wiped the floor with him 😂 Hadn’t he been losing points on purpose he’d swept him clean 3-0
That’s the point, his over-cockiness lead him to lose. He cared more about giving Daniel injuries for life than winning the competition, whereas Daniel cared solely on respect and winning.

Just goes to show how even if Mike could beat Daniel up, Daniel still understood far more of what Karate is all about.

Nah, man.
I don't think so.)
Taekwondo is basically Korean Karate, heavily influenced by Karate, so I figure if Taekwondo works, so does Karate.
