Gamesir X2 Fan Mod (UPDATED)

  • Update: For some reason I encountered stability issue when using Gnd from the spring connection beside 3.3v spring. So I rewired it again using the Gnd pad next to 5v pad. And this is how I actually wired it in the very 1st version where I had a coiled wire sticking out on top instead of a sliding contact.
    This mod adds fan noise.
    Also I tested just running 1 fan thru otg adapter and battery drain is about 5% after an hour (screen was off).
    For disassembly, I followed this • GameSir X2 Teardown
    Then I just drilled with a dremel like tool and glued them into place. I used epoxy on the fans and switch as this is all I have. And tiny amount of super glue on the back of nickel strip.
    And the basic goal here is to just connect the fans to the 5v and Gnd pads in that board.
    If you want the parts see below, maybe you can find similar near you:
    shopee.ph/prod...
    shopee.ph/prod...
    Other FYI/ideas
    I tried to replace the 3.3v on the spring with the 5v, so I can move 5v to the other side without using any other wire or sliding contact. But I don't have a chip to drop the voltage. And only tried via voltage divider. I encountered problems this way, the right board drops connection when both fans ON, led does not work, and X2 itself drops connection after some time.

    nice clean mod are the fans pushing cool air in or pulling hot air out? also the dip switch is that a PCB switch 2.54mm? with this setup you can run both fans at the same time? I'm planning on doing this mod hope you can get back to me on my questions ..thanks

      pushing air to back of phone...
      Yes you can wire both fans to 1 switch. I just didn't have any 1 switch only so just wired them separately.
      Be sure to test your small fans first against back of your phone. If you feel hot air is pushed and it satisfies you, then maybe the mod will be worth it.

    Hello Tony Stark!
    Is there a way to make the Gamesir X2 being a type C passthrough PLUS data?
    To connect it to a computer while playing and charge while mirroring?

    • @niluss6
      @niluss6  2 года назад +1

      No.
      But you can already cast phone screen to PC without connecting USB. What you do is open Connect app of Windows, then start the cast from your phone. The only drawback is the sound will go to your PC, and screen and sound is delayed by a bit.
      Checkout this link www.groovypost.com/howto/how-to-mirror-your-android-to-windows-10-with-the-connect-app/#:~:text=On%20your%20Android%20phone%20swipe,in%20my%20case%20%E2%80%93%20HTC%20Connect.
      With this setup, you can even livestream the Connect app via OBS on PC

      @@georgetsakoumakos1766 i am not sure with the Gamesir X2. I am thinking if you can find a type c female to normal usb male, it might be possible to connect it to a usb hub, then to otg that has a charge input, then connect a usb to hdmi (like the wavlink) to the usb hub. But that's a lot of stuff to connect. And also EggNS probably won't work that way.
      It maybe better to get a bluetooth controller or a dualshock 4 and connect phone to hdmi either via mhl (if your phone supports it) or via a wavlink usb to hdmi connected to phone via otg.
      Video out via Mhl has no delays.
      Wavlink usb to hdmi has a little delay but I think it's playable. Drawback is it probably does some processing to encode the video both on the phone and the wavlink, so need to keep both phone and wavlink cool, and you also need an otg that has charge input. @@georgetsakoumakos1766 I am not sure if it has improved with other devices and the chromecasts. But I have a fairly new phone (an sd888) on a mesh wifi 5g and casting to a gaming computer still has the same delay as casting a low end phone on a 2.4ghz wifi router a few years back. The delay is similar to casting to any smart tv.
      It's actually a whole different experience if you stream a game from pc to phone on a 5ghz router, it works and is really playable.
      So maybe Android software or the phone hardware needs improvement in screen casting or screen capturing.

    Hi, i have an X2 Pro and have been wondering if it would be possible to change its usbc adapter so that it would add an SD card slot compatibility. Internally splitting the main usbc wiring so it will both controll the pad and also put a SD reader in there. Do you think it would be possible?

    • @niluss6
      @niluss6  Год назад +1

      The gamesir x2 female usbc socket is only for charging, so you can't put sdcard reader there.
      I am thinking you'd need to put a usb hub between the phone and the gamesir. So both sdcard reader and gamesir output (the male usbc) to the hub. Then hub output to the phone. Thou I am not sure you can charge anymore via the gamesir female socket if you do it that way. Thou can get a usb hub with power delivery and just skip the gamesir female socket. This might be better since power delivery will support quickcharging.
      FYI, On the main board I saw some D+ and D- pads, so maybe those are the signal lines of the male usbc. And maybe you can solder to that.

    • @Yamagatabr
      @Yamagatabr Год назад

      @@niluss6 exatcly! I was thinking on using the male usbc, not the female. The plan was to 3d print a rectangular brick that would be in the phones place, and it would wire both an SD card and the main usbc male to the phone that would fit on top of it.
      Maybe there would be spare space to even put an battery and bluetooth transmitter to when you want to use the gamesir as a bluetooth controller to the phone on an hdmi dock.
      😅anyways, that would be my first DIY project, because I have some of the tools and the idea of making it in a neat packaging and usecase was getting me excited. But would be foremost an learning experience. So I greatly appreciante your feedback and tip, thanks.

    I don't like Bluetooth headphones

    • @niluss6
      @niluss6  2 года назад

      I was thinking of this mod too. But the space inside is cramped.
      What I planned before was to slid a small bluetooth board there, a MX-MH8 M18, hook it to the 5v and a 3.5mm jack to the X2 case. This is because my phone doesn't have a 3.5mm jack. I bought the bluetooth board but I decided not to do it as I also have bluetooth earbuds and I don't use mics anyway.
      But if you have a device that has a 3.5mm jack and you plan to put a male plug drilled in the X2 to mate with the phone, I think it will be hard. There is not much space, screws may be in the way and it may weaken that part.

    Putting the battery outside and connecting it through the charge port works though !

      If it was me, probably I will connect the charge board (like a tp4056) between the physical X2 usb female jack and where it is connected to. Plus a switch to actually enable the battery. So you can just connect to existing usb to charge the battery, and battery power will be directed by the charge board to where it is supposed to go to (to your X2 and phone).

      If the circuit board is the same, there will be test pads in the circuit board which appears to be for the usb pins. D+ D-, and then the 5v and Gnd like on the vid. You can try to solder an otg cable to those and see if it works or not.
      But above is just a guess. There is a high chance the board may be different because iphones have different charging and otg mechanism. But since Android otg is just activated by the short or resistor in the otg cable, it may work.
      Or maybe you could just try to resell first. Maybe it will be less of a hassle.

      It is hard to quantify with temperature as phone will try to keep it below 50c. But the effect is that I can play longer, and a more stable fps. For example I tried just now in Smashing the battle and it wil dip to 10 ~ 20 fps a lot when it is hot. But with the fans ON it dips to only about 30 ~ 35 fps.
      But I think if you use a desk/electric/portable usb fan at home. Try playing in front of it, making the air hit screen or side of your phone. Maybe you don't even need a mod like this that way.
