    Been taking Adderall XR exactly as prescribed (20mg) for over 1.5 years and in the last 6 months, had very high resting heart rate spikes. Up to 120BPM resting with dizziness. Cardiologist said to discontinue use. I stopped last Wednesday and aside from a bit of tiredness here and there, I feel great. Heart rate is finally back between 75 - 85 bpm resting. Still felt I had a good workday and felt less irritable. Happy not taking it now.

      I only am prescribed 10. And I use my own method to retain drug effectiveness. I skip 2 days a week. And also depending on the work load I will lower the dose. Sometimes 5mg, others 2.5. I will often do a complete de load and not take it for weeks. I plan on eventually having my business set up where I don't need to take it but now when the going is rough it really helps me

    Our brains do heal and go back to normal after stopping stimulants, however, the reason we started taking the meds in the first place is because our brains don’t produce enough happy chemicals anyways, so I don’t think stimulants damage brains, I think it just sucks adjusting and going back to normal for most people because our “normal” means we never produced enough feel good chemicals in the first place and when you’re not used to functioning at that low amount anymore, it can feel like we’re worse off but really it’s just that we got used to feeling better and going back to normal feels dark and depressing for most people with adhd. There are ways to naturally help our brains produce more feel good chemicals and a lot of people end up choosing this route instead of being dependent on a medication…. It all adds up to people’s lifestyle and preferences

      Stimulants steal dopamine from future supplies. And they make you feel awake when you likely should be resting. They also wreak havoc on your bowels. If you think microscopic holes (or visible holes) in your digestive tract is an nice trade off, then go for it! Get that dopamine!! Also, dementia at 45 should be fun!

    I've been taking this medication for adhd, the extended release tab for months, and when I went from a measly 10mg to 15mg, I had pain in my lower abdomen. Didn't think much of it, but since then, I digest food slowly, I'd be off the medication for a while and it would be back to normal. While taking it, I then developed IBS symptoms, bloating, stomach pain, swelling, unless I'd get off of it.
    It definitely did help me, I focused 10x compared to before, on any given task, I wasn't groggy throughout the day anymore. I'm switching to another one, just remember if the good outweighs the bad and talk to your doctor.

    • @MiddlePath33
      @MiddlePath33 Год назад

      @@nikoleo2000 Stomach issues are like the number one most common side effects of this drug. And since it suppresses appetite i highly doubt his stomach troubles were due to the food he was eating.
      It’s a chemical…that likely messes with the natural bacteria in the stomach slowing digestion. Food rotting in the bowels because it can’t be broken down properly can lead to all sorts of digestive problems. Gone uncheck long enough it can lead to chronic issues and cause IBS and types of colitis.

    • @nikoleo2000
      @nikoleo2000 Год назад

      @@MiddlePath33 that could be reasonable, if it was true, since the most common side effects of this drug are dry mouth and insomnia, not stomach issues.
      And for that matter, if you were on many medications at once it could be plausible to eventually have somr kind of stomach problems, but directing the blame to just one pill a day its a little extreme, so it would make sense that the stomach hurting would be for other factors .
      Food itself has chemicals in it, chemicals that we need to survive, so theres that too

What it did do is help me put all my ADHD management stratagies into application, and in trial end error i was able to build good habits i would not have been able to otherwise.

    one think people look over is that Adderall or adhd meds are supposed to make things level because what you have is a dopamine deficiency so the goal is to bring it up to what its supposed to be not to give you an excess amount which is what causes a lot of the problems that people talk about

    From what I remember from my psychopharmacology class, methylphenidate was seen as more of the gold standard for ADHD medication than amphetamine, partly because of the way amphetamines produced a higher level of dependence, as well as their longer half-life. I can definitely see what you’re saying about the effects of adderall and how it can be harmful with long-term use

It's true that I had become reliant on my medication, and I was worried that I was relying too heavily on it to keep me feeling okay. I'm still adjusting to life without it and it's not something I take lightly. I understand how much of a challenge it can be to balance the benefits and drawbacks of medication, and I'm trying to find alternative ways of managing my mental health. This is exactly how I felt the first time I took ecstasy at a rave. “This is how I SHOULD feel all the time!” was my thought process. When a doctor prescribes you drugs and your insurance pays for it, you’re less likely to categorize it as something that is harmful. Adderall is speed. And it is highly sought after on the street for a reason.
      Truth be told, Adderall is worse than ecstasy and causes the exact same issues when use is withdrawn and the exact same long term health complications…like destruction of your bowels.
      The problems drug addictions cause are worse than the problems they purport to “treat”. You’re in the early stages. Just give it time. By the time you realize you’re dependent, it’ll be too late.

      a 10 or 20 MG dose is not going to give you the health problems associated with heavy long term recreational use. and yes, the pacemaker protects you from any drug induced arrythmias.

      Is peer reviewed literature really necessary to convince you that an amphetamine salt affects sleep? Caffeine is a much more mild stimulant, but I wouldn’t call for supporting docs to say it can keep people up past their bedtime.
      If I take Adderall after 10AM, I won’t be able to sleep before midnight that night.

      Adderall won't fix your issues. Only you can. Usuing stims in conjunction with lifestyle changes will help. I find the lifestyle changes are most effective. Meaning setting up your life so you can be most efficient managing your ADHD symptoms.

      We do heal, however, the reason we started taking the meds in the first place is because our brains don’t produce enough happy chemicals anyways, so it doesn’t really make it worse, it just sucks adjusting and going back to normal for most people because our “normal” means we never produced enough feel good chemicals in the first place and when you’re not used to that anymore, it can feel like we’re worse off but really it’s just that we got used to feeling better and going back to normal feels dark and depressing for most people with adhd. There are ways to naturally help our brains produce more feel good chemicals and a lot of people end up choosing this route instead of being dependent on a medication…. It all adds up to people’s lifestyle and preferences

    My fiancé and I have been using adderall for ‘focus’ for almost 20 years. We don’t have ADHD so its not prescribed. We drink often and use adderall as a away to be able to ‘focus’ at work the next day after drinking, or when we have a lot going on at work the next day. I noticed he tends to sleep alot less than i do and i tend to sleep more. I can sleep 12 hours straight and get up and still more. I always feel tired, specially after work. Feeling low energy. Ive caught myself sleeping parked at a stoplight after work. He tends to forget things like memories and me not so much. I may forget things but not as much as him. He’s very sensitive to the subject when his mom brings it up. He doesn’t use it daily but sporadically so he says he’s not addicted so bringing it up is very difficult. I don’t feel addicted either but im not even sure. I sometimes feel i cant function at work without it. So maybe i am? Im a 32 year old woman and i would love to have kids, am i putting my ability to have kids or putting my future kids at risk by continuing to use unprescribed adderall???

    • @michaelrullis7501
      @michaelrullis7501 2 года назад +1

      I would say everything in moderation. If you cut out your binge drinking then perhaps you wouldn't need the Adderall. If you plan on having kids I'm assuming you won't be having a rocking time like you are. But rather focusing on your kids. I suppose this is a lifestyle change and you and your fiance are going to have to make that change when you feel it's right.

      I would definitely schedule an appointment to see if you should use it. The major problem here is when the specific hormones that help you while taking the medication, become reliant on that medication so you won't produce it on your own. I've been on it for almost a year for my adhd, went off of it for a week, and my withdrawals were horrible.

      @@DrJayFeldman my grand daughter was diagnosed when she was 7 yrs.old. One of her teachers actually suggested that we have her checked. So her teachers and parents had to fill out questionnaire packets which were took to the doctor where he looked over all of that and then asked lots of questions which led to the diagnosis of ADHD/ADD. It was at the last 9 weeks of 2nd grade and it helped her pass. We didnt give it to her during the summer and then started homeschooling for 3rd grade because i didnt like the idea of the meds. It was so hard. I couldn’t get her to focus on anything and she was all over the place. Put her back in public school for 4th grade with her basically skipping the 3rd grade. She barely passed 4th grade. So 5th grade Covid shut things down and we homeschooled again until the last 9 weeks of school which she barely passed. So she went through 6th and 7th grades with a few A's and B's through out the year but more of C's, D's and F's. So by the last half of 8th grade, her teacher suggested that we put her back on meds or she was going to end uo failing. She is 13 yrs.old and was taking Adderall 20 mg XR at 6:30 am and a 5 mg (not XR) at around 12:30 - 1 pm during school to pull her to the end of the day. She told the doctor that she could tell when it kicked in and when she felt like it wore off. But she ended the last 9 weeks of school with all A's and one B which kept her from failing. She is very smart. She doesn't take it on the weekend or during the summer unless she is having to really focus on something. We tried like 3 or 4 other meds and had bad results. So she is going to her first year of high school this year. She hates taking meds at all but she knows that Adderall helped her. The only thing she said about it was that her friends ask her what was wrong because she wasn't talking near as much. I guess my concern is like anybody else's would be. How bad is it going to affect her in the long run and is there anything that is better?

    There shouldn’t be any long-term side effects. If you don’t miss use it I know people who smoked meth for 20 years within moderation and didn’t have the issue that some of these people do taking a simple pill. I think that it comes down to personal lifestyle and the accountability as well as geneticsand responsible us regardless of prescribed her otherwise although I will say street drugs are gross and I don’t support them
