Lol, me with my ADHD playing this video at 2xs speed so I can comprehend what they're saying without getting distracted. 😂 The first time I took a stimulant I didn't realize it would calm me down and I ended up falling asleep during a test 😂 Having ADHD is like someone else has the controller to your brain and is flipping through the channels rapidly. Being on stimulants is as if you finally are the one with the controller and can watch what you want to watch. It is so empowering!

Back when I was in college I suffered from major depression, which made it difficult to pay attention in class. I told my doctor, and although I don’t have ADHD, she prescribed Adderall. It didn’t take long for the side effects to start. I always had what amounted to a major caffeine buzz. Along with that, my heart began beating so hard and fast that I had to go to the ER. I don’t recommend using Adderall if you don’t have ADHD. To be fair to my doctor, she prescribed it because she thought I might have ADHD. Believe what the doctors said in the video.

I always found it difficult to keep my focus in class. I would find myself lost in random, quickly - changing, thoughts, and then realizing that I had not been paying attention for several minutes, so I struggled in college a lot. At the time, I had heard people talking about ADHD, but I wasn't very familiar with what it was exactly, or that I might have it myself. I have never been prescribed with it and I have never brought it up with a doctor. Recently took some Adderall from a friend who had some and holly shit! All of a sudden I felt so motivated and my thoughts were so clear and deep and I could actually analyze everything with amazing detail. It was then that I understood how helpful this drug can be for getting things done. I felt a bit euphoric and very motivated for a few hours. However I also think that it is no more than a bandait drug. I think social media use makes us more susceptible to ADHD and also the school system is to blame because it puts a lot of pressure by saturating students with assignments and homework that makes the thirst for knowledge become a mental resistance to stress and losing interest in school. School should not be synonymous with mental torture.

    • @l21n18
      @l21n18 3 года назад +2

Well for those of us that came up before the rise of social media I can say I don’t think its as accurate to blame it on that as you think

    • @godless_rain22

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder aka a brain disorder. There may be rarer instances that could cause ADHD, such as brain trauma, but I just don’t see social media causing it, it would be hard pressed. They are still studying and researching so much of ADHD and even the DSM-5 is not entirely accurate as it isn’t updated with the new findings of the disorder. There are scientist that are trying to have certain aspects changed. Social media doesn’t make my ADHD worse, my ADHD does cause me to use social media more thanks to a brain that constantly searches for dopamine and we are easily distracted(aside from the hyper focus aspect) unless taught proper coping, self taught coping, and/or medications. Oh, and the ability to procrastinate like a pro.
Unfortunately, the school system was structured for neurotypical brains. *sigh* But there are accommodations available for many that can be helpful. :)

have you talked to a doctor about this, I am on adderall now in high school and you have exactly what i have problem’s with. I don’t fidget i just zone out when i’m not intrested and i don’t really care about school. i take 2 20mg tablets a day and it basically just feels like caffein but lasts longer and doesn’t leave a gross coating on my teeth. and it doesn’t make me hyper it just locks me into one thing that i’m doing instead of going on my phone while doing homework and stuff. If i get destructed while on the meds i stay destructed and it’s hard to get back to work but once i’m working there’s nothing happening exept me working. I’m watching this video because I have adhd and I started taking adderall, I noticed when I first took it I felt a little anxious but then it made me feel spacy and sleepy, I was at the grocery store and there was a lot of people and loud noises. But then later that day once the adderall had stopped working I notice that I became super super sensitive to loud noises and became very frustrated and angry when I couldn’t get away from the loud noises. I don’t know if that is a normal response but now I only take half a pill, it doesn’t work as good cause I’ll still get distracted and have racing thoughts. But now I don’t have any anxiety at all unless the pill is starting to wear off and it’s only when I hear loud noises. I started freaking out at work because I work in a noisy environment. Does anyone know if that is a normal response? In a month I think I’m going to have my doctor change my medication, i feel like once the pill wears off it amplifies my sensitivity to noises, smells and makes me cranky!

Don’t know if anyone would see this but, I started taking adderall in March 2021. Ever since then I take about 30-40 pills (30mgs) a month. Some every other day. Sometimes 2 pills on the weekends. I do not have ADHD. Mostly did it for the feel, and I love how I feel on it. Just happy and everything is amazing and positive. Now, 7 months later, lost a bit weight which helped because I was “overweight”, and I now try to take about 15-20 a month instead of the 30-40. I’m thinking of lowering that dose and eventually stopping fully. I’ve had no problems with addiction or stopping whenever I wanted. Aside from the fact I shouldn’t take it because I don’t have ADHD, I wanna know what people think about this. Again, so far no side effects or withdraw symptoms.

@@l21n18 yes thank you, ADHD makes someone understimulated and low dose of stimulants correct it to the right level of stimulation. High dose stimulants will do the exact same thing as a typical person.
If a typical person is understimulated from sleep deprivation then they might get bored easily and will be "calmed down" by stimulants because they will have the right amount of stimulation and can focus, people with ADHD are just like that most days which is why stimulants will stimulate them enough to not have to do it themselves with Netflix, RUclips, music, or fidgeting, so it appears to calm them down.

I'll cut to the chase here, from what I understand, neurotypicals who take Adderall or other stimulant ADHD medication seem to experience some similar symptoms to ADHD. The drug doesn't make you smarter, it helps rebalance an imbalanced brain, and taking it when your brain is balanced is just giving yourself the effects of a neurochemical imbalance.
Long story short, don't take it to study, you may just end up messing up your brain.

@@l21n18 There's actually a lot of research into the neurological developmental differences in kids with ADHD.
Here's some rather quick reading on the subject. www.understood.org/en/learning-thinking-differences/child-learning-disabilities/add-adhd/adhd-and-the-brain
Here's the CDC referring to ADHD as a neurodevelopmental disorder. www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/adhd/facts.html
So I hope those satisfy any doubts you have as to what ADHD is. There's a very real reason to prescribe stimulants, as they help to normalize the function of the impacted parts of the brain. Hence cautioning against taking medication to study better. You're risking your brain.

@@MacManChomp This has nothing to do with the initial claim you made about how these drugs effect other people. Furthermore, its important to point out that these drugs are used medically for many more things than ADHD and that wasn't the initial medical usage either. They weren't developed for ADHD either, its totally accidental how they started to be used for that purpose. They are also used by the military for purposes that require one's brain to not be messed up at all like flying long missions.

@@l21n18 So then what do you have an issue with, and be precise. In your first two messages you made mentions of "looking at the brain" and I showed you the research involving looking at the brain. There's also plenty of research into how these pharmaceuticals interact with the human brain, and this video even talks about the symptoms of Adderall usage for a neurotypical brain. My "claim" is nothing more than cautioning against the use of stimulants in search of enhancing your ability to study. It's simply not a good idea, considering what we know about how these stimulants affect the human brain, which, regardless of which came first, is why the medication is prescribed to individuals with ADHD. Because you know, science is a thing, and just because something wasn't originally sought out for any express purpose doesn't make it an ineffective treatment. Reality just is, we have no affect on it, all we can do is observe it, and use the tools at our disposal to accomplish our goals. For instance, the goal of increasing the quality of life of someone with a neurobiological developmental disorder that primarily affects dopamine and norepinephrine pathways in the brain can be served by discovering that a chemical when introduced into the body reduces the rate at which dopamine and norepinephrine are purged from the brain.

Most people confuse Anxyety with ADHD. You have to really dig deep and make sure you don't have GAD or depression before even attempting at diagnosing yourself with ADD or ADHD. Medicine only benefits those who have real struggles out of their control which is what brings most ADHD patients to the doctor. Everyone else taking the drug recreationally is only setting their dopamine bar higher and ruining their body and brain. Yes you may feel slight improvement in concentration at first but not long term.

    • @kaykat4469

Exactly. It takes a professional to diagnose ADHD as it’s one of the most complex neurological disorders. There are very strict guidelines as to what does and doesn’t merit a diagnosis and if it’s after the age of 12 there needs to be a great amount of evidence your life is directly affected and most psychiatrist will want to speak to either a parent or guardian or someone of authority who dealt directly with you, as a child. And the older you get the less likely it becomes that you are going to get the diagnosis meaning it’s bad enough that a psychiatrist feels you need to diagnosed and treated and require stimulant medication. And taking a stimulant without requiring it is basically red lining the gears of your perfectly normal brain 12 hours straight until it over loads and shuts down. It’s dangerous. And eventually it will just burn out all together. it doesn’t help normal people get “smarter” lol it literally just fries your brain like a McDonalds air frier and keeps you up long enough to do the things you don’t want to do in one shot.
