- As Dragon Ball Super Chapter 88 is coming soon and a new Goten and Trunks arc approaches, how should the Moro and Granolah sagas be adapted into an anime for 2023 and beyond?
Toyotaro and Toriyama have done a good job with these two arcs, but an anime team could improve some things such as the use of Bardock, Black Frieza and senzu beans. Some things can't change, but how can an animated version improve the story?

The main problem with the manga is the monthly release. I've since binge read the Moro and Granolah arcs and their quality improved significantly on the 2nd read through.
And the colored version is great 👍
It’s definitely better to binge read once arc is finished because the month long wait makes people forget the previous chapter if it wasn’t an impressive chapter to reread

the chapters aren't nearly good enough to warrant a monthly release. that's the issue. it should be at least bi-weekly, but I understand why it can't be.
100% agree. I think the issues people have with the pacing really fade away when you read the sagas as one story.
I think Gas is a character that can be RAW in anime, with his unique fighting style
He is named appropriately, cuz when he fights hes all gas, no brakes
As annoying as it will be, we need them to adapt moro, granolah and superhero. Im willing to sit through that to avoid future fans being confused, they're part of the story afterall

I get why people compare Goku giving the bean to Moro to the time he gave one to Cell, but I’ve always compared it to the time he gave Piccolo a bean after the World Tournament. Cause where him giving the bean to Cell was so he could push his son, whereas with Piccolo, he was more so giving him a second chance, which feels more in line with the Moro thing

People giving Goku too much credit lol. There's no grand plan here to make Gohan as strong as possible, Goku just knows how much stronger Gohan is than he is and doesn't want Gohan to be bored fighting a worn out Cell because he thinks Gohan is like him.

@@priestesslucy3299 the whole point of Goku telling gohan to fight is to put him in a situation where he’s pushed to his limits so he can overcome them. Goku has a plan the entire time it’s part of the reason he’s so confident before the tourney while everyone else is scared

I don’t think that a lot of the heat is unjustified. A whole section of a fanbase doesn’t just start hating on their beloved series for fun.
For Dragonball, the manga does look very undercooked(art-wise) and the anime’s stakes always felt temporary if not nonexistent by predictable storytelling.
I will say though, I love that you touched on the newer arcs, as I think the two recent ones in the manga are very nice.
Another thing too is that Chiaotzu taunting the Metal Man would not only give him a major W but would also be one of the Moro's LOL moments, so I'd defo like to see an expansion in the anime's 2nd season.
I love how they actually made Chiaotzu useful for once i loved that chapter!

For Moro I'd like to see more of people fighting back his forces whether actually fighting or evacuating civilian and mustering forces. Doesn't need to be an episode but just seeing the toll he takes on people and what that does to the universe would be nice. You can also set up characters like the heeter's and granola in this time as standout survivors. Let the dragon team get some wins before like the Chagombo they get overflowed with power then Goku arrives and knocks them out before they get up. His saving them didn't feel impactful because he shoulda been able to do that without the extra training since the team wasn't scaled up. Make the sparing of Moro a request by Meerus due to his belief that Mortals can change. Do not reset their characterizations to match the manga. They have had development in the anime use it. (Especially Roshi).
Do not retcon Beerus to suddenly have actual not been worried during the tournament just have him train off screen in secret like Roshi.
Finally someone said it. You don't have to reset characters for the sake of telling a story its the most dumbest and illogical way to go about building tension in a story and ultimately kills the overall growth the characters had in the story
Honestly I'm kinda hoping we get a 10 - 20 episode Broly arc first.
There's alot of backstory they can expand upon and give the movie more depth then it already has.
Broly and vegeta back and forth can last a bit longer and have more of a conclusion instead of goku being like "hey let me get in on this"
Then Moro, then granolah
They dont gotta change anything in those two, keep them exactly how they are in the manga.
then I'd like a little tiny arc with some splice of life touching base about the z fighters on earth, maybe give teen goten and trunks a smaller villain to fight.
Explain why goku and vegeta are training with broly
Then a more expanded upon arc of superhero.
Then idk call me greedy I'd like another big arc that builds up into the black freiza arc

This would essentially be an adaptation of the DBS Broly movie similar to how Battle of Gods and Resurrection F was adapted into the main anime
A quick fix for the senzu in the Moro Arc is making Goku give the bean to Moro because he's still angry due to Merus' demise, and needs the goatman to be in good shape so Goku doesn't strike him down in anger and lose control of his Mastered Ultra Instinct

The senzu bean issue doesn’t need to be fixed. Not only was it badass but it was a great moment for goku’s character that’s completely misunderstood
I'd say both. Manga has Goku give the bean because he is acting a little more heroic and that means giving the enemy mercy. BUT I'd also just like it because he just wants to beat Moro's ass in the most humilitating way possible.
One interesting idea would be if Jaco enlisted the aid of the Z-fighters to collect the prisoners across the galaxy, giving us a potential better showing of a Galactic tour than GT did.
Toriyamas spokes person was referring specifcally to the Super Heroes movie and DBS manga being seperate not the DBS anime. So it is likely the anime will cover both Moro and Granola arcs

Moro - remove the Senzu Bean scene, just skip to Moro getting bodied by UI Goku and desperated, he fuses with Earth, the senzu bean is pointless, you can have the advantage tips from one side to another without this.
Granolah - have UE Vegeta first get a clean win against Granolah and then he gets bodied by Gas / give Gas backstory and motivation to make him better established character by the moment when he joins the battle.
Why remove the senzu bean scene? It basically showed us how confident Goku was in his strength and rightfully so.
Would anything be that different if Moro used his magic to steal a senzu bean instead?

I just noticed that besides Gas, Frieza was the only one who doesn't have a backstory. I guess that what made him an interesting villian in Z. He doesn't have any other reason of being evil but just because he enjoy it.
All of these ideas are great Masako! I really hope these ideas are adapted when Dragonball Super comes back!
My main hopes for a Moro adaptation would be more direct involvement with Buu, more focus on Goku training with Merus + Vegeta training on Yardrat, Gamma 1 (&2, if Bulma can wish for longer eyelashes, they can wish Gamma 2 back) involved in the battle on Earth, and powering up some of the invaders to make them feel like a real threat & give Gohan & Piccolo something cooler to fight than just the copy robot guy
And the Granolah saga needs Broly. No discussion of who the strongest in the universe is would be complete without him

The Moro and Granolah arcs take place after Broly, but before Super Hero.
@@jman72898 The anime can take liberties with the timeline when it comes to adapting these arcs. The movies & the manga have had virtually no crossover, and are functionally two different canons, fudging the timelines a bit so that they can include new popular characters makes sense from a storytelling & marketing standpoint

So I read both Moro and Granolah arcs up to ch.87 in just a few hours and I have to say that whatever issues there are, they're not as big as people make them out to be.
People need to remember that this is only a manga, it will skip certain things and will rush and jump to scenes more fastly than the anime will.
Toyotaro so far has given us great writting. If someone told me Super (anime/manga/movies) was exclusively written by Toriyama, I would've believed him since it has Toriyama written all over it.
If people want a dumpster fire, they should check out Boruto. What's worse, the original mangaka - Masashi Kishimoto is actively writting the series right now (he wasn't involved in the beginning) and it's still bad.
I think that's kind of the thing. There are even some improvements compared to the original manga; for example I feel it makes much better use of location then any Dragon Ball I have ever read, there is usually ruins, waterfalls and geography in use that makes it feel much grander, and I feel there is a genuine interest in world building that has felt more fresh then anything we've had in the Android Saga onwards, and I loved how they used the Supreme Kai in the Moro arc as a major player as a more natural way to lore dump then King Kai just sprouting off.
There're even some comparisons with the anime adaption that seems cooler. Goku with Contained Blue fighting Zamaus fused was a much more entertaining set piece then bit player weedy Trunks stepping on up at the 11th hour that ultimately just didn't do anything. I actually liked the TOP much more in the manga, it felt much more chaotic, uncertain and destructive then it's somewhat temped and boring anime material, plus I feel Gohan was really used well there as a reluctant protector who can *really* step on up when he needs to. In the anime Goku basically fought everyone and Gohan and Vegeta were relatively boring characters who just sat on the side-lines until pretty late on.
As much as I’d love to see the Moro and Granolah arcs animated, I kinda feel like they will get skipped for two reasons.
1. Like you stated, Aikio did state around the time Super Hero was announced that the manga and anime have different continuities and the fact he said that while promoting SH kinda seemed like a hint of him responding to people questioning if SH took place before the manga exclusive arcs
2. The fact that instead of adapting or even mentioning the arcs in anime/movies, they chose to jump way ahead of the manga timeline and it’ll be weird for them to go backwards with anime and be like “oh this stuff happened before the movie we released previously. I may be wrong but that’s just a thought I’ve had since seeing Super Hero
Yes, but also iamgine being an anime only and then they skip the manga arcs and suddenly out comes Ultra Ego and True UI and completely not understanding what happened or how Goku learned how to control UI at all, let alone evolve it to a further state.
@@sirminty8495 I really wonder wtf Toei thinks about when it comes to Dragon Ball, even the fact of having two continuities was a head scratcher, I can understand why during the anime’s original run because Toyotaro was behind the anime and he wanted to kinda redeem some of the stuff from anime that fans were questioning and kinda add some twist into it but when the manga got ahead of anime with Moro arc and with anime on hiatus, before Super Hero was the perfect time for them to get the manga and anime back on track continuity wise but instead they opt to keep them different 🤯

Having watched Super for the first time properly a few months back I felt at times that it, and likely the manga arcs should they get adapted, needed a good proof read before they enter production. Yeah, that means some things will be different and some plot points will need tweaking or out right changing between the recent manga stuff and the anime but I'd rather have an improved story that is less faithful to the source but personally I'd take that.
Why not have Moro steal the senzu bean by his actual magic powers, he has it so shouldn’t he be able to teleport
Honestly, Moro didn't display that many magical abilities. We know he can drain energy, and fuse with other beings, or even celestial bodies.

I greatly enjoyed both archs and if there's one thing I'll say about Toyatarou, he knows how to end an arch (wether said endings make real sense) the anime could only improve them I'd say. Pacing wise and lore wise.
They really better adapt these two arcs. I wanna see more of Moro especially. He became a favorite of mine very fast :3

Edit: As far as I can tell, I can only agree with what you have been told. Let there be consequences for Goku, so that even our battle maniac learns that there are times where certain sorts of kindness are out of place. Having Krillin call him out on his recklessness is important.
For the Bardock flashback, even just one episode would be plenty enough, so that Goku gets the gist for comprehending his saiyan nature better. Just the crucial puzzle pieces, no more no less. Anything else Bardock related should be after the Granolah arc condensed in it's own special.
Also take out the part where the dragon pretty much made Goku’s power what it is! It takes away Goku’s hard work to be strong since it all came from a wish from a dragon!
Even though I know I'm in the minority (if not the only one) I love the potafau arc and Copy vegata concept and character😅 even got a custom t shirt made with him on it😂

Unpopular opinion all the arks start off with so much hype and just end up being boring
I hated the Granolah Arc, it was incredibly boring to me. Vegetas new power is neat and black freiza showing up at the end was cool and all, but Granolah was one of the least interesting and annoying characters we've seen in the Manga and it honestly felt like nothing even happened that entire arc.
Some things have to happen because Dragon Ball has become a show of references, fanservice, and plot armor.
And I feel like Bardock is one of them, even if Toyotaro and Funimation didint want to add Bardock he would be forced too because of their popularity. I mean they completely re-made him and Broly. And in the xenoversw/heroes timeline hes one of the strongest characters.
Same with the senzu bean scene. I mean if you go back through Super you can likely find alot of references or redraw from the old show. Vegeta vs Jiren and landing similarities to landing cell-saga in the TOP comes to mind...just like THE SENZU BEAN

My theory on the senzu bean is that, if all that was left was the hand that touched Merus then it would regenerate into a full version again. And Goku chose the best option to take in the moment. LMAO🤷
Okay, here's my two cents into the reason why the Frieza Force got rid of the Cereleans;
They are deadly with their sniping abilities like the Saiyan ones in the beginning of the Broly movie attempting to assassinate Frieza. They're on the verge of developing advanced space technology. That or found Intel data from Frieza's top men are about to be recruited by the Galactic Patrol. An army of highly trained gifted stealth gunmen would be a potential threat to Frieza's army. So he organized the Saiyans to exterminate all of them as the Heeters come to sell the planet to the Sugarians while giving the army their cut. That's one example of how the anime can improve the story.
I feel like I could go into an essay on the different types of filler, what works, what doesn't, and examples to avoid (cough Steven Universe).
Bit of a weirdly specific remark I know, but given the nature of adapting a complete story versus having to buy time for more to come out, it really jogged the memory about various thoughts I've developed on the matter. Would definitely be interested in hearing more of a discussion in the videos themselves as well, as I rather do miss the writing-focused eps.
In short, I break down filler as three categories:
Breathers, which comes after intense moments in the story arc, or after the conclusion of arcs themselves. (DBS 15, 42, 68 to name some examples). They're vital for helping to slow the pace back down, let the dust settle as it were, and feed more naturally into the second type as so.
Developers, usually for characters, which as implied are more about giving the characters some more depth, or to lay down some exposition and set-up for future story arcs. (DBS 43 for a great character ep, 28 for a story development ep).
True fillers are where the plot just starts screeching to a halt, because they're dragging fights out, spending time on irrelevant/unlikable characters or just general meandering that doesn't feel like anything is accomplished. I'm going to push all of Garlic Jr and Evil Water into this category.
I hope we get a healthy balance of the first two, and if they do decide on mini-story arcs that they at least feel engaging and entertaining in their own way.
One thing they should change is how Granola found the second dragon ball because it was on TV. It would of been better for him to have to search for this.
I would love to see all these changes so that the moro and granolah arcs improved but imo I would like brand new stories over them retelling moro and granolah and super super hero isn't helping since it takes place after the granolah arc if I'm not mistaken. It just depends on whether the anime team whenever they start production choose to adapt the manga or do their own thing.
I feel that you could add some subplots to the overall framework, so it feels entirely new or at least fresh.
As far as I know, Super Hero is only Canon to DBS Broly. Yes, I know the Manga is making a prequel for the movie, but I don't know if that changes anything.

Maybe not have Vegeta’s development be completely wasted like it was in the manga during the Moro arc. Same goes for the Granolah arc as well, where it was just Goku activating his susanoo and win.

Vegeta returned the life force back to the Namekians and saved their entire race as redemption.
In the Granola arc he was almost acting like Granola’s mentor and taught him valuable lessons.

Yeah I agree that they could definitely take a page from One Piece with doing full on lengthy flashbacks, the time used to tell them doesn't matter if their inclusion enhances the story.
Some extra (and in my opinion more valid points)
1: Make the henchmen more interesting. I wan't people talking about Saganbo & Seven-Three like Dabura and Ginyu, not Cui. I don't even know the names of the others either.
2: Change the ending of the Moro arc so that Goku using just UI pushes Moro to absorb Seven-Three and he goes unstable, then Vegeta shows up against Planet Moro. Give Vegeta a W.
3: Make it so Goku only achieves MUI again in the fight with Gas
I never realized/understood people had such an issue with the Bardock flashback. Is it because it took away from Granolah somehow? How? At that point, Granolah had his eyes shot, back blown out, arms broken, and got a visit from Sandman. The Bardock flashback recording gave the crew ideas/reassurance and a reasonable amount of time to recover(The fight was also cool)
Is there something I missed or am I simply too "Okay with everything"?
My main problem with the Bardock flashback was his fight with Gas. Dude should not have won, makes no sense that he won, and they put no effort in showing how and why he won. Burdock legit just says, "cause I really really wanted to win" and then that was supposed to motivate Goku and Vegeta. It was really dumb and didn't really tell a story about people who overcome a challenge, it really just took what the writers said was supposed to happen, and then told us it happened. Pretty lame.
If the anime is ever going to have an adaptation of the Gronala arc, what they should do is show the flashbacks of Bardock in the Start of the arc. Then when it comes Goku and the scouter all they can do just show a clip and then be done with it. That way the pacing won't go into a halt in the middle of a critical moment.

It bothers me a bit that we have to point out what should be obvious that just hating on something because it's not the "original" author is hugely non-constructive and contrary. Toyotaro's got the official support of the guy who made the series! If we don't trust Toriyama's judgment in picking a successor... why are we trusting him at all? Never mind the blatant rosy color people watch the original Dragonball and DBZ series with.
This ain't exactly a GT situation, after all. People need to chill and accept reality. Change happens, and it's not always a bad thing! Rabblerabblerabble.

Yeah... The Moro Arc was good, or at least it started off good with lore and the interest of a new character, and then it was like a little old with some new experiences on New Namek, and Moro was built up in a great way, in my opinion, it was because of the fact that Moro did not start out stronger than Goku or Vegeta, and the other characters like the prisoners did not just feel like regular fother, it felt like they were a legit threat to the Z-fighters, and Moro was a great adventure.
The only thing that I wish would change would be the ending, like having Majin Buu be the one to defeat Moro instead of Goku.
The Granola Arc... Eh... I don't know. If they were to adapt this Arc, and kept some parts of the story, but changing others, like keeping Granola as a bounty hunter who wishes for power, but instead of 3 years to just one year, and he fights Goku and Vegeta, and you know they stop and come to terms with with some sh!t and they all fight Gas.
And what I would change the fighting, like Goku and Vegeta fighting Gas, and Granola is nowhere to be found, so he became a side character in his own story. I would change like Vegeta gets beaten up badly, and he is out of the fight, and then it jus leaves Goku and Granola there on the battlefield to fight Gas. And then there can be like a Goku and Granola fusion, and Elec actually gets away, like he fakes his death, or he takes advantage of a situation or whatever, but he escapes and he will continue to be a threat, even though he is not that strong.
Would be cool for Merus to help Gohan after his conversion.
Super Anime adapting the Manga should improve on where the Moro and Granolah’s Arcs suffered.
Anime arcs tend to adapt and amend manga arcs so this would provide some solid foundation for a new anime.
Moro was perfect until the planet Moro stuff so that would need to be fixed
Granolah arc has a lot of problems mainly using dragon balls for power was a stupid concept, ultra instinct feeling nerfed compared to its Moro arc version, and my last problem with the arc was how frieza power crept Goku and Vegeta with his black form
I feel that if they destroyed the Cerellian Dragon Balls instead of sealing them away, that would've been much better.

@@MasakoX I would've had the Cerelian dragon balls destroyed after Granolah used them. It would've shown Monaito how dangerous they can be when used in the wrong hands and if he did destroy them after Granolah used then, then the whole Gas part of the arc would've been avoided
Moro: "Can I have a senzu bean?"
I actually think that they could have a small character development for Goku and Vegeta over the whole Moro Senzu bean thing. Have it be a major point throughout the rest of the Moro arc AND in the Granolah arc that Vegeta(along with everyone involved) is extremely angry at Goku for saving the enemy, making it mean even more when Vegeta decides to help Granolah with his issues personally. They could also change the Gas fight so it takes longer for Goku to realize that he's not really evil, reminding us that sometimes Goku's good nature could have helped depending on the "enemy" at hand.
It wouldn’t mean anything with granolah because granolah isn’t a bad person and they didn’t have any hate at that point
@@sidecharacter3193 Its not necessarily about Granolah and Vegeta for this situation, but for Goku to see Vegeta properly analyzing the enemy and determining that he's not the true threat. Goku needs the development, Vegeta can just boast later about his intuition. This all builds off of the idea of new mini plot leading through the Granolah saga about Goku being a bad judge of character with his opponents and always assuming positively and needing to learn from Vegeta

He never once considered sparring cell, and buu he only tried talking to the fat buu, but once super buu and every other future buu happened he never thought of sparring them
Why do I feel toei is trolling us and they are just teasing for the dragon ball super heroes home release? They are known to do this sort of crap on us. And not give us anything new.
I honestly wish dragon Ball at this point would do a new standalone story with new characters. Maybe in a different point the timeline. Like Star wars or DC or marvel. There's so much potential for other stories to be told within this universe.
I don't see issue with doing another story even in current timeline.
Just like how the Black Apocalypse timeline could have been used to tell a great story about how people deal with total collapse of their society, living underground and with scarce resources, so could we see how the lives of more regular folk look when there are universe-level threats out there duking it out right there and then.
Even a story about a student of Mr Satan that manages to discover Ki (maybe he happened upon a draft of Gohan's book on the matter) could show us a relatively weak and green character looking up all starry-eyed at recordings of Goku's and others' exploits.
Heck, we could get a proper Budokai Tournament once again (without ridiculous party-poopers in form of Z Warriors).
I don't it's what you meant, but I would like a spinoff set in Universe 6. It's similar to Universe 7 but is a blank slate with barely any details, so there's plenty of room to make stories without having to worry about conflicting with lore.
@@ZeothTheHedgehog Yeah that's the easiest way. It's much simpler to write a story with less restrictions (if you already have some world-building basics down).

Establish the Heeters’ role in the Planet Trade organization by showing how ruthless it is. For example, the industrialized amphibian race overpopulating their little moon would be able to pay better than that sustainable farming culture carefully utilizing the few continents on a similarly aquatic but much larger planet. Nudge the Freeza force into invading that watery planet, and once the farming culture is extinct, sell that planet to the industrial amphibians from the overcrowded moon.
I would absolutely love an anime only arc where Goku goes off to Hell and meets with his Parents, just a small filler arc set after the Granola Arc where he meets with his mom and dad, hell throw Radditz in there as well for good measure.

Dude if the anime and the Manga fully separate I'm dropping both of them, there's no reason to make things unnecessarily contradictory and complicated. I will be so pissed if Moro gets abandoned in the anime, or if the Manga plots are skipped over or ignored.

Regarding the bean scene:
Hear me out. Just have Moro STEAL THE DAMN BEAN. Dude is mage and absorbed 7:3 who had already copied Gohan and Piccolo. So it's not a reach to say Moro would know what the Beans are and can do
put all the bardock stuff into one episode, that gives it all the weight it needs while not taking away from the plot focus for multiple episodes.

I feel like most of your criticism of the Granola arc boils down to "You're taking away the spotlight from the main character" which is... Interesting. You see Granola isn't the main character of that arc. Neither was Piccolo Jr or Vegeta the main character of their arcs. They're just antagonists that for various reasons end up befriending Goku. While Granola's motivations are understandable he basically had the same revenge plot as Vegeta. So it's not that Bardock was hogging Granola's story, it's that Granola is only relevant in his interactions with Goku. I feel like this is the approach Dragon Ball has used for a while now. It's a matter of perspective. Granola isn't the arcs hero. In the way they wrote it he is just a really well fleshed out antagonist that ends up on good terms.

Hey Masako! I was wondering if you have any ideas on why Toei doesn't treat dragon Ball like DC. They could come out with all these animated movies that are just their own contained stories and just constantly be pumping out content. I know they used to earlier during the dragon Ball z era. Now everything seems to need to be canonical.
They don't have enough people. Toei works on many different anime. When they did Dragon ball Z anime and movies continuously. Dragon ball Z anime faces a ton of production issues in the Frieza saga because some of the staff were working on the movies.

Comparing DBS manga thus far, and DBS anime thus far, I prefer the manga by far. I feel the anime should be obligated to adapt the manga.
The anime 100% needs to adapt the Manga if it continues. There is no need to muddy the waters with unnecessary contradictory stories. In fact if it doesn't, I'm not sticking around to watch or read it anymore. It would just be too frustrating
@@Alex_Barbosa i get the sense the anime staff absolutely refuses to acknowledge the manga, like Toyotaru is beneath them or they want the credit for writing. I understand both of these stances, however, Dragonball originates as a manga adaptation, and am under the impression Toriyama has worked closer with Toyotaru than the anime staff (his offering art corrections in the manga only, for one example)
Dragon ball super was an introduction to the gods and the multiverse dragon ball super 2 is gonna be the villain arc like we never had any true evil villains in super except for black and frieza was already there but no one else was really evil unlike z where frieza cell and buu were evil dbs is a trailer and dbs 2 will be the villain arc

Im not a fan at all of the fact that the anime & manga are now 2 separate universes. The manga is supposed to be the original source & that anime is supposed to be a copy & paste of it
If Toei want the next Dragon Ball anime to be good, then they should delay the anime adaptation. There are still not enough story arcs to adapt.
At least i hope they don't make the slice of life stuff so extensive, the most boring part of any anime I've ever seen was the 20 or so episodes between the Goku Black arc and the beginning of the Tournament. Also tournament wasted to much time on useless characters.

If Goku wants to learn more about his Saiyan family then the person to ask would be his brother Raditz. Maybe Goku could ask Baba to have Raditz out from Hell for 24 hours, unless Raditz's soul has passed on.

Honestly the Granola arc has the chance of having its cake and eating it too. Reference Goku learning from the scouter with maybe small snippets from Bardoc and Gina but consolidate everything he learns in a single episode.
Could easily be framed with Goku mentioning things every now "Wow that's why my mother looked liked", slightly distracting Vegeta but otherwise keep the story moving. For Vegeta after the fact to pull Goku aside and demand what they hell he learned.
In regards to Goku looking more into his heritage after the Granola Arc, I wouldn't mind at all if they brought into the actual anime cannon how he went to hell in the fusion reborn/ janenba movie and have Goku meet his parents for even just a bit of an episode

A wild idea I had for the granolah arc (which is more for whole rewrite of the Saga rather than an adaption), is having the aged-up Goten and Trunks be protags, with Goku and Vegeta off in U6 or something.
It can lead to some interesting character development for them as they have to deal with the saiyan's bloody legacy. It also allows Granolah's jump in power to be more believable. I'm not saying Goten and Trunks are weak, but Granolah becoming strong enough to be on their level is way more believable than getting to Goku and Vegeta's.
