10 Most Underrated Dragon Ball Super Characters - Why?

- Sometimes Dragonball can give us some cool side characters...but they mostly get overlooked and are underrated. Why is that? Is there more to Piccolo's Janet from Dragon Ball Super Super Hero?
What about them secondary characters? They don't get enough love! ANd to be honest, it just has occured to us that we haven't really done one of those in quite a while, but we know very well what will be its topic.
I think that we've been with Dragon Ball Super long enough to think about the characters that it introduced and if there's something to say about Super, you can certainly say that the people they introduced have certainly left a mark, mostly for the better. And no, we're not talking about the big players, your Hit, Caulifla, Jirens and Zamasu and whatnot. They've been covered plenty and to speak of them in this video would be a little pointless since they're not secondary. No, let's talk about those and even some tertiary characters, who have enriched the Universe of Dragon Ball without even really trying. They just existed and were still able to provide some enrichment for us...in fact, sometimes, they do a better job than the more fleshed out characters! For the purposes of the list we are gonna use ALL Dragon Ball Super media - that means the anime, the manga and all four movies (we count Battle of Gods and Resurrection F too even though they're titled with Z) will be included. So without boring you guys with an overly long introduction, let's get to the meat of the topic, shall we?

the other universes(want to see a space adventure with the z fighters looking for the time chambers meeting them.)
the original tournament fighters(when the end of z happens would love to see them get added like goku introducing his family to nam,18 sniffing bacterian's scent as he's heckling maron only to see krillin & remember his defeat/get comically owned by both,a return of jackie chun or even ranfan getting hitched with yamcha throwing him a bone.:3)
android 8(would love to see him meet 18,17 & especially android 21 and 16 to see adorable moments with them.)
gohan's school friends(they just disappeared after the buu saga other than the games as i don't think they even cameo once in super.)
mercenary tao/shen(they're still alive and would like to see him interact with the z fighters fighting tien again.)
arale(loved her episodes & using jump super/ultimate stars/the kochikame crossover logic on vegeta and would love the z fighters going to penguin village,arale joining them as a team member for a while or the 97 remake be the inhabitants of u6 earth.)
and toriyama's other works like gogo ackman(loved his cameos in sd/the super manga's afterword.) & cashman(would love him being an earth division of the galactic patrol.).
Nappa, launch, earthlings, raditz Giniou force a lot people need screen time lol

A character that was introduced in Super that has some very high potential and in my opinion shows the potential future of human characters moving forward in the Dragon World is Yurin from the recruiting Tien and Roshi part before the tournament of power. Not only does she have direct ties to OG Dragon Ball and multiple characters in the story, she also survived that arc and has since become one of Tien's students. Her skillset goes beyond martial arts in the talismans and having the means to massively amplify powers for very little drawback could be a big advantage going forward. Remember that one Talisman made Goku have to try in beating Roshi. That is a huge deal. I feel that she has a lot of potential as a character going forward, finding her place just as Tien had to after the falling of the crane school, and it could amount to having one of the best possible support characters to ever exist in the series.

Catopesra was such a fun character. I would honestly love to see more of him, even though Toyotaro obviously didn't care for him in the manga. A shame, because in the anime, he was both funny and cool at the same time. If they for whatever reason make some kind of Catopesra merch, I'm buying it!
He was in Heroes (The game, He was in the first arc that the anime adapted but they took out his fight vs Ribrianne in the anime) So he has a chance at being used later on.

Monaka was ignored because there would be no tension in any of the archs. He would've won the ToP himself if he wasn't sick... OBVIOUSLY!!
In all seriousness, i want Launch to come back. I thought she would've shown up during the Tien episodes but NOPE, We got that other random annoying girl. Idk

I think Mojito's reaction was more of a "good riddance" kind of thing, as we are told that Universe 9 has the lowest rating of the bunch. Meanwhile, the Universe 10 angel did seem upset by the erasure.
Personally I thought it was judt because he found the denizens of that universe thoroughly unpleasant to be around, lol.
Yes he actively hated them. He is happy he is no longer with them.
I unironically like Yamcha and Chiaotzu as fighters and wish they were included in the ToP. Having them and of course Tien getting stronger and staying relevant in the story would be my dream come true.

My most underrated character pick, Magetta. He was the first wholly unique character in the Super tv show I think, subverted our expectations as to who or what would be the "dangerous" fighters in the U6 Tournament, and all around just has a fun personality and abilities. I also like his pseudo-rivalry with Vegeta, and it's somewhat rare for Vegeta to fight at roughly equal power with an opponent (he usually stomps or gets stomped). Magetta also gave the writers an opportunity to really show off what makes Vegeta and Goku different as fighters, as Goku explains what he'd do in each situation while Vegeta tries his own thing. I think a lot of this draws parallels with Zarbon in the Namek Saga actually. It's no surprise to me then that the Zarbon fights got me into DBZ, and the Magetta fight got me into DBS.
If even Magetta has too big a spotlight already, then I'll go with Gryll from the Copy Vegeta Arc. I find his dub voice hilarious, he's a fine Nappa stand in, he's dangerous without being overpowered, and I like how Vegeta (uh, the normal Vegeta) treats him like a threat more because he's a sneaky villain than because of his power level. It shows Vegeta's experience and growth as both a hero and a fighter.
Interesting to hear about the Zarbon thing! I remember his 2 fights with Vegeta being pretty damn good.
this is why I love the Tournament of Power... so many interesting characters introduced, it would be great to see more of them

I still don't think there was such thing as an "scrapped evil angel plot" during the T.O.P, I think people might be reading too much into it.
Mojito was a servant to an incompetent and neglectful, GOD, of course he'd be delighted to see him go.
Agreed. His smile was very unsettling and raised questions, but the angel war idea always sounded more like fanfiction than an official possibility.
Most of those side characters will never be seen again like Launch

Janet...you know what you reminded me of? WAY back when Dragonball Z was still premiering on toonami a friend of mine was actually watching ahead with fansubs (this was back in the days of dial-up internet and 9/11 hadn't happened yet, WAY more innocent times) and said that Piccolo might get married because there was a line where he said "I have to go with my wife" or something like that. It turned out to be a bad translation because what he was referring to was the filler episode where Piccolo and Goku tried to learn how to drive, where Chi-Chi blew up at Goku because of how far she had to walk to go shopping, and when Goku invited Piccolo to join him he actually said "Why, she's not MY wife!" (or something like that, I'm paraphrasing.) At the time I thought it was weird to ship Piccolo with anyone since, you know, his species reproduces asexually and has no females but I was like 14 and we didn't even really understand the relationship spectrum. I wonder if they would give Piccolo a girlfriend in the actual show...
All these ignored characters got more screentime than Launch.
More than likely incorrect. Launch appeared quite a decent amount of times throughout Dragonball. She just wasn’t present really at all in Z or Super.

Dr.Rota! I like to think the Pig Wizard is actually REALLY powerful… but likes to talk too much and never gets to show us his power. I’d just think it’d be funny to say Rota is the “sorcerer supreme” of Universe 6! The saiyans have their counterparts, there’s Namekians in U6, Rota is the counterpart to Babidi! Imma Calling it!
Masako, I feel like most of the human characters in the Dragon Ball universe would have to have some degree of heightened mental fortitude, I mean King Piccolo tried to take over the world twice, the Saiyan invasion would have been terrifying, would Frieza's mothership have gone totally unnoticed? The Androids caused wanton destruction before being destroyed or absorbed by Cell, who not only drank hordes of people, but told the world that they would meet their demise in a week. What about Beerus fighting Goku? Sure you might not have felt their energy, but crazy sonic booms bursting across the horizon, hurricane force winds, earthquakes, tsunamis, etc. Wouldn't that have felt like the end of days? It's bad enough just thinking about all the times Shenron and Porunga have been summoned in the middle of West City, how many people have the Dragon Team traumatized by doing that?
Mojito was stated to hate his destroyer and supreme kai, so he was probably just happy to be rid of them.

Don't give Janet too much credit. Nobody seems to remember King Piccolo, or the guy who saved King Furry from him. During the Buu arc, Piccolo even joined the tournament under the name "Ma Junior," the same name he used the last time he joined a tournament and terrorized people, and nobody bat an eye. Earthlings are the dumbest creatures in the Dragon Ball universe.

I love the idea of Monaka being this poor sorry sap that constantly has his life interrupted by Goku and the gang.
I know this is a list of unimportant characters, but I really think Gas as a character is really underrated.
I love Janet already. I really hope we see more of her. If Piccolo is Aroace, that's fine, but as an Ace myself, I love the idea of him being just Ace too. He could look around and see how happy his friends who are in relationships are (mostly) and maybe think he could try it out? Or maybe Janet could ask him out first which is what makes him start thinking about it in the first place? They seem like they'd mesh very well, both rather calm individuals and it'd be nice for Piccolo to have someone to have chill or introspective conversations with. What if Janet got curious about the stuff Piccolo does? She doesn't need to be a fighter or anything, but just to take an interest and support Piccolo. Oh! What if they meditated together?! That would be adorable!
... I really want a What If Piccolo and Janet got together now.
I also prefer a friendship situation to a dating relationship for Piccolo and Janet but I am also Ace, making me biased on that front since I see Piccolo as our community's Anime GOAT. Still if a Janet plus Piccolo "What if?," happened I wouldn't begrudge it.

Surprisingly he is still alive since Red Ribbon saga from OG DB. Yes he probably now useless and too weak in Super timeline but some fans still remember his warm relationship with Goku. He can be maybe a good friend to Android siblings and have "Old but not useless" vibes!

I’d personally wanna see a potential what-if story involving Janet, like just make “what if Piccolo trained Janet” or even “what if Janet was born a saiyan”, something like that!!
It’s kinda fitting the Barry Karn mini Arc (plus the Great Saitama vs Goku scenes) acts as an in ironic echo for the DBS Super Hero film. That combined with Piccolo & Gohan’s training/sparing prior the actual Tournament of Power helps leads to it better. It’s not perfect but it helps.
Can we do this a series, like DB, DB Z, DB GT, I would like to see those top 10 too of each ?
Make one of these but for the other series! OG, GT and Z all have really interesting minor characters that make the dragon world feel alive!

Very good list, I have soft spots for small characters like these ones, especially guys like Katopesla.
Just one thing, Mojito was confirmed in his bio and even in the show to hate universe 9 and its gods, so there was no evil angels plot, just a guy being happy they were gone.

You and me both. I find it sad how little fan creations there are focused on the other universes (whether they include universe 7 or not).
Oh well, I'll be adding to the limited number of those people as I'm writing a U6 fanfiction.

I think Piccolo's status is one of those ones where Ace/Aroace people kinda called dibs because his narrative/personality fits and he is super cool so he is our goat. Also the lack of knowledge of Namekian society hides whether the whole species is Aroace. The impression is that the elder creates new children so romance isn't necessary for their people to live on. However we see villagers going about their day but never anything that would tell us if particular Namekians share a home or if they all live in barracks or longhouses. They could have more intimate relationships but without further evidence all we can do is assume. It may even be a difference between when Kami/Piccolo the Nameless Namekian was sent to Earth after some diaster and before that because his father is given a name that does not imply that the nameless Namekian's father was an elder like Guru. In addition evil king Piccolo made children left and right with no love at all however many of them were not in the traditional Namekian mold with Piccolo Jr. Being the only one who matches the Namekians on Namek. Anyway the Ace/Aroace communities do have grounds to suggest Piccolo belongs to them. Apologies for the long post and giving more questions than answers.😅

I know this is gonna be contravertial butfor me git is grossly underrated he had insane potential (could possibly achieve both tui and ultra ego) and has awesome hacks and honestly the fact that basically all that matters is "pure power and strength" it's wastes the cool and unique abilities along with techniques and skills other characters could have and the fact zeno , the sayans, gp and his kids get to basically pul absolutely every cool technique, skill and ability out of literally out of nowhere is galling saiyans are old news and over used even for main protagonists and it's a bigger offence whenever zeno, GP or his kids get new stiff because it's never explained we need some kind of rulle book for thn newer and arguably worse offenders at this point! And basically power shouldn't equal everything it's way more interesting to have nuances give each of the cast something they specialise in it makes things more interesting and helps differentiate them and makes it way easier to identify them both individually and as a whole as a biproduct these are just some of my opinions and thoughts feel free to disagree and let me know how fell about it

It truly is a shame Japanese studios don't give a rats butt about western audiences. It ends up with characters going down trope routes or even never used despite international love. A great example is Samus getting trash like high heels and a zero suit. Which is awful as hell for a character based off Ripley from Alien.
