I don't know if anyone explained the double neck guitar so I'll have a little go. One neck is just a regular 6 string, the other neck is a 12 string so each string becomes a pair of strings tuned to the same note at different octaves.
Made famous by Jimmy Page in the 1976 concert movie, The Song Remains the Same. It's a 1971 Gibson EDS 1275 double- neck. Of course, he might be playing the cheaper Epiphone in this video. Also in '76 The Eagles released the Hotel California album which featured this guitar being played by Don Felder on the album and on the subsequent tour.
@@MrJctii916 And in the Live version from Guitar Center Claudio plays the solo on the double neck, behind his head, just like Jimmy! Then later uses his teeth haha
Yeah the top 12 string guitar plays just like normal and is tuned like the bottom one but because each set of strings is two separate octaves, he uses it in the bridge for a super full sound.
The song is basically a break up song. The lead singer's girlfriend at the time (now wife), broke up with him because his band blew up and he was touring all the time and she couldn't handle him being away (if you really loved me, you would have endured my world). Since they're married, you can see they eventually worked it out. But this whole record is basically a breakup record, but presented inside the band's ongoing science fiction storyline. "The Writer" (lead singer), is creating an apocalyptic event in his fiction due to his pain, which has repercussions for all the characters that were in the first two albums.
Honestly a pretty badass way to break up with someone. Oh, you're breaking up with me because I've become too successful as a musician? Well fuck you, I'm killing off your character and destroying my fictional solar system, you just made the music you don't respect even better, thanks for that.
It’s such a great story, him and his wife now write and illustrate it together, but yeah he let out his anger in a song about the writer trying to end the world they created together
I love when Claudio talks about writing this sond on an acoustic guitar in his underwear in his mom's kitchen and he always says "man that riff is tough!" LMAO. Best band ever.
*Song
The song is actually from 2005. And Claudio has always had that hair. Great band.
I remember when Claudio had a tiny little afro. Shit I am getting old
Yup i remember exactly where i was when i first heard this song!
😂this takes back to high school. Love you coheed and cambria.
Keep in mind that there is decades of music that came out long before RUclips. This album came out in 2003, for instance, but the video didn't show up on RUclips until 2009 since RUclips didn't even exist until 2005, and didn't support longer/higher resolutions until years later. The video post date isn't necessarily when it was made originally.
😂 5:52 he's looking at you girl 😂 he knows your talking about him
Here come the Children of the Fence!
I have arrived, fellow COTF
“We are One Among the Fence.”
OATF
This is my fav song we need more rock in the world
Also, the video came out in 2005/2006. Coheed is pretty much my favorite band but some of their music videos are hard to watch lol
I always sing this song, especially the outro, to my coffee pot in the morning when it doesn't want to work.
I really suggest listening to "Mother Superior (Nervous energies session)" by Coheed and Cambria. It really highlights the vocals of both Claudio (lead singer) and the rest of the band who all sing. Also, the majority of their albums are concept albums that tell a sweet story that the singer created and has since been turned into comic books and graphic novels.
" A Favor House Atlantic " was the first song I heard from them ... like over 13 years ago... they're AMAZING !!
The guitar: The top neck is 12 strings, the strings are in pairs so you'd play at 2 at a time for an interesting sound. You can also have one of the necks in a different tuning if you wanted, say standard E and drop D... Other ways to do that on the same neck in fairness but he admits he mostly uses it because it looks cool. Live and on the recording he uses it for part of the chorus and the end.
shocking that a "theater kid" has no idea what that is...
Sadly the music video is cut down from the full song. there are more solo's at the end that are really good. their live performance at hammerstein ballroom is one of the best performances of the song.
Gonna add a second recomendation from coheed here, either the dark sentencer or domino the destitute, both are great storytelling pieces that are good examples of progressive rock.
Domin the Destitute is a BOP
2009, and it was in the movie trailer called: “9”
Yeh this video version missing some of the guitar solo unfortunately but should definitely check out more Coheed! "Ten Speed" is a groovy number with a cool riff. "Justice In Murder" is also highly underrated (would recommend a lyric video for that one perhaps, but it has deep meaning for the band).
The Suffering is my favorite from this album. It's not meant to be listened to as a single... the entire album is literally a book. Rock opera was lost in the late 80s and early 90s.
It’s missing much more than just the solo..it happens 20 seconds into the song when they cut out some of the intro
Another amazing song by coheed and cambria is mother superior. Powerful lyrics.
Oh this brings back memories to trying to play this on all instruments in Rock Band.
It's one of my favorite riffs to play on the acoustic.
I’ve always loved their guitar center live sessions version they are just feeling it, And Claudio solos behind his head on the double neck.
One of the greatest guitar play ever!
Coheed is my favorite band. And trying to give an example of the band's sound is almost impossible to do with one song. They have songs that range from super poppy rock, to intricate progressive rock/metal, and pretty much everything in between. So I would suggest, as a way to show the other side of Coheed, suggest something like "Number city"
Coheed and Cambria "Number City" - ruclips.net/video/5Lff4bGCMUs/видео.html
It's comparable to Romeo and Juliette if you listened to a few songs further in the album. It's love forbidden and lost. Actually beautiful and a lost form of poetry.
Killswitch engage end of heartache but I would like to see disturbed voices then do there reason to fight
For the question about the guy on his left...
He's playing the bass and is "slapping" the strings. (Slappa da bass)
In reality he's just beating the crap out of them. Haha
His hair still looks like that and it's glorious
Coheed and Cambria combined elements of progressive rock, alternative metal, progressive metal, post-hardcore and emo that tops them as the masters of 'newly-styled' progressive music.
Their albums are concept albums based on the graphic novel series created by the psyche of frontman Claudio Sanchez.
Their songs are a healthy balance of heaviness and softness, I recommend "Wake Up". It's like an audio wallpaper to the sense of hearing.
Hadn't heard that one in a while. Forgot how solid of a song this was. I enjoyed you diving into lyrics! I think the French group Gojira gives me modern rock and modern metal vibes? But I could be totally wrong. I'm horrible with putting music into genres haha. Link for a live Gojira performance of "Silvera" is below. Let me know what you'd categorize it as and what you thought if you check it out but don't feel like doing a reaction video.
ruclips.net/video/slfICxJTe7Q/видео.html
As far as meaning goes Coheed and Cambria is a concept band. The songs are telling a sci fi story. So the song is about a heartbreak but from a fictional characters perspective who is not well.
The double neck guitar the top neck is a 12 string and the bottom is the standard 6 string it essentially allows him to switch instruments mid song. I’m not a musician so maybe someone better versed can give more info there. As for the hair I feel like I remember hearing Claudio say one time that he is extremely self conscious and having all that hair acted like a protective barrier of sorts but I can’t find that source so maybe that that with a grain of salt.
You're right about the guitar. If I am correct, he uses the 12 string during the chorus.
Yeah, he used the hair early on to deal with anxiety/stage fright. He doesn't really need it for that anymore, but it's kind of become his signature look. He has it tied back half the time during live shows these days. As a dude that felt pressured to keep my long hair for a long time by my girlfriend, I feel bad for him kinda. We broke up last year and I finally cut it all off. Feels amazing.
The hair is timeless!
The guy on Claudio’s (the guy playing the double neck guitar) left is Mic Todd. He’s playing slap bass there. And he’s no longer with the band. The current (and better IMO) bassist is a guy named Zach Cooper. The guy playing the gold top Les Paul is named Travis Stever. And the drummer is named Josh Eppard.
Claudio is a guitar with hair. And I love him.
The more I watch this video I get Faith No More vibes.... just the set.
The two parts can be separate set for easy switching between songs or one is electric and one is acoustic
The necks are certainly different. The lower neck is a 6-string and the top one is a 12-string. Ordinarily they'd be tuned the same, the 12-string just adds more body to chords and things because of the harmonised/chorused string pairs.
But obviously you can kinda do what you want with them, they might be tuned differently although in this song it wouldn't make much sense so I doubt it. But if you were playing a long, changing song with different parts in it you might want to have different tunings to alternate between different tones/keys etc.
Hi, I did the worst thing I could possibly try to do in this video. Tried to cold read something. Enjoy my dyslexia in action ♥
It makes me sad that you don't realize that this entire album is a rock opera. It's a story. Why do I feel old now 😕
OMG YOU DID IT?!??! 💜 You’re the best Charis!!
And WE LOVE COHEED! 🖤
Thanks for the recommendation!!
Welcome home, there is no food in the fridge is a great comment
welcome to The Fence, darling 💐✨🍻 Claudio w/ the hair has made a whole story & comic series that pulls it all together “The Amory Wars”. many albums & different sounds that are all amazing 🤘🏻🔥 check out these (make sure it’s the album versions):
Ten Speed
Gravemakers & Gunslingers
Gravity’s Union
The Dark Sentencer
The Gutter
The Suffering
Random Reality Shifts
Sentry the Defiant
Halestorm I would say is a example of modern Rock.
We need more of you reading lyrics to rock and metal songs. GWAR please.
there's a live version of this that hair takes over its like cousin it from Addams family
The double guitar is 1 six string and 1 12 string.
Any other guitarist have ptsd from trying to play each part of the song and pretty much cut off there fingers, or was it just me
is she reacting to the video or the song? because im not even sure she had the headphones on.....
def 2005 I remember her as she wer yesterday
Why is metal music not on Monday
Should react to Pantera- Cemetary Gates
Nice, Coheed and Cambria!
Great band, but holy shit did you ever try to take on the nerdiest band ever. Every album is a story, which is part of a bigger story that later albums reference. The artwork tells part of the story, the album titles do (and do it in order), the band name itself tells part of the story. They have comic books which tell part of the story, and wrote a movie that told even more (the movie never got made). Hell, they even did side projects that tied into the story.
This was in one of the Rock Band games so you probably heard it from there
Please react to Funeral for a Friend - The end of nothing. Any song honestly from the album Hours.
Damn you sound like Meg from Family guy.
By the way cool reaction keep up❤🔥
It actually came out in 2005
You should really check out more of their stuff. There is a range of sound.
Claudio sanchez has a very nice voice
top part of guitar is 12 string guitar for intro of song
If you want to see more dope hair, check out the band Motion City Soundtrack
You should watch their song Feathers
You have beautiful eyes! And great reaction too!
I only know this cuz my dad was in a rock band go check out the denis system pls
A song id love to see your reaction to and hear your thoughts on the lyrics is Fake Divine by HYDE
Hey dude! Your channel is awesome! If you’re open to some requests, I’d love to see a reaction to Polyphia. Some great songs by them are:
G.O.A.T.
Saucy
O.D.
Nasty
Yas
Light
I think you mean all of them 😂
A great Modern Rock band you should check out is the soon to be inducted into the rock hall of fame. The Foo fighters and listen to the song best of you!
I love that song!
how do you react to something without hearing it you prude
He's definitely rocking a blowout but he's Puerto Rican and Italian, so probably not as much work as if a WASPy person were to try it lol
"theres no food in the fridge..." yep, thats what i hope a reactor gets out of this video
I know I know... reacting to 3 month old reactions. I am the worst. But...
For a very different flavor, maybe listen to Claudio Sanchez's cover of Adele's Hello... it's acoustic and just him.
I won't post a YT link, but it's in the same Coheed and Cambria account.. safe to search.
Nice and Fair reaction on your part. Keep up the good work !!
It’s kind of a late reaction inception, I reacted to a video that is years old. So you are more relevant that I am lol
@@CharisSellick By the lyrics, I'd say that was blood, pelted with tears.
- the Double Neck... others have mentioned it's a 12 string on the top... the problems with Gibson EDS-1275 s are legendary, not the least of which is their weight (about 13 lbs... most guitarists flinch at 9 lbs).
- Not seeing much of his face... for a long time, Claudio has had a seriously introverted personality... but on stage he just kills it.
I'm not a C&C fan, but I rem, ember watching one of the OLDSCHOOL TV interviews... he could hardly look at the camera.
His music apparently has entire graphic novels (he's written) behind them.
ME? I just write novellas in my head, but never put pen to ink.
I need to get back into writing music.
Charis, like the greek word for grace?
That’s me!
They are prog rock. And hard rock. They draw from classic rock bands as well.
You have an interesting voice. I like it.
Thanks!
React to the Hair trigger music video by Protest the Hero. :) you'll love it
You should be a voice actor
I’m trying my hardest lol
@@CharisSellicktbh you would be pretty good, I could see you being one in the future
this song came out 05 not 09
Fun fact: this song was written about his now wife
Not exactly.. This is a concept album some themes are pulled from his life but the story is part of an ongoing concept
@@kingtomthebomb1639 I may have oversimplified a bit. I’m a big fan of the Amory Wars.
Dude you are so funny
Dude, thank you!
Do Tool “The Pot”
Don't forget gothris metal!
The most intense of all metal!!!! 🤣
I am late😳
Just a little
This video is hard to get through with all the vapid comments of no substance that added nothing reactionary to this content. The equivalent of someone showing you The Mona Lisa and your response being "ooh pretty colors"
The Mona Lisa does have pretty colors
Definitely seems like a waste to not use both guitars; nice attention to detail, lol
He needs another hand so he can play both at the same time
He uses both necks...
hoping she says lol ...
Not the full version of the song im sorry I had to click off 😕 as soon as I hear that it’s not the full version of any song I can’t listen to it
Great to see sexism has gone both ways. Gals don't care if the guy is fucked up, if he's got grat hair...
Thanks for describing what's in the video. As a blind man with anger issues, I greatly appreciate it.
You are in for a treat with my other videos because I literally cannot stop talking about the video 🤣
@@CharisSellick I literally can't stop talking. I hope it bothers someone enough to punch me in the face, and if movies/shows taught me anything, I'd get my eyesight back.
@@CharisSellick Fuck. I'm sorry. You seem incredibly nice. I'm not actually blind, I'm just an idiot who gets caught up in trying to joke.
@@CharisSellick Anyway, I really don't subscribed to channels, but I'm subscribing because, well first, it was an enjoyable video, and second, I was a complete asshole. Sorry.
Dude you are good, thanks for the Sub! ❤️
One of the worst reactions to this song EVER. Stopping commenting on all the unimportant stuff in the video. Not paying attention to the lyrics which are key to understanding the song.
🥰🥰🥰1st comment
no one gives a shit.
I'm sorry, but I think you missed the entire point of the lyrics, I really found your comments completely irrelevant, I thought when you react to smth you coments should be focus on what the band is playing not on the video, lmao. I'm sorry but you kinda need to grow up.
i will never understand why this song is so popular.
Coheed is one of my favorite bands of all time but this is one of their most boring, uninteresting songs.
Hes like jim Hanson created a rock star extraordinaire
It actually came out in 2005
