@@KHZ1986 25 if you count the EPs. I remember getting a bootleg of Delirium Trigger when I was in middle school. Been a top three constant in my musical life ever since.
I'm so happy that my campaigning finally paid off! Thanks to all the other Patrons who have voted for my varied Coheed suggestions over the last couple of years and put them in that top 5 enough that they caught Elizabeth's attention. I can't wait to watch this! ❤
Coheed and Cambria gigs are ALL SUPER FANS, it's such a unique experience and a complete and utter thrill. Everyone around you is in awe of how good they are, such a good fanbase of this band.
I can speak from experience when I tell you that when the audience starts chanting at the end, you can feel it in your chest. It's incredibly intense and wonderful.
I suggest checking out "A Favor House Atlantic" to get an idea of how comfortable he is in a high register. Also, in the studio recordings of songs, Claudio often will layer himself in some really complex harmonies and even little counter melodies and I suggest "The Suffering" for those types of things. And I'll happily admit that I've cried when I saw this live.
29:17 "There's some sort of magic that happened right here. It feels like it's beyond words." That's Coheed and Cambria in a nutshell. Such an incredible band.
His phrasing, while playing guitar, is off the charts. The live versions are usually eclipsed by the energy of the crowd so it's a worthwhile endeavor to check out the album versions of their music. Top 5 favorite band of all time.
Definitely need an album cut for analysis. Coheed may be proggy but it's like emo/post-punk prog, and their live shows are appropriately chaotic. Live performances are expected to be all over the place and out of tune. This band gets super precise and pretty when they get in the studio
Coheed is the only artist that makes me wish I could go back in time and experience them for the first time all over again. Thank you for your entertaining perspective and for not stopping the song when I thought you would. 😊
This. I remember I was listening to In keeping the secrets album while doing some college chemistry homework. I heard a few Coheed songs before but In Keeping the secrets of silent earth 3 came on and was immediately blown away. Hearing the chorus for the first time was insane and definitely wish I could experience it again. Seeing them live a few years ago and they played this was bliss.
They were the first band I saw on my first Warped Tour in 2003. There was probably 200 people in front of the stage, barely anyone knew who they were. They blew my mind. One of the most memorable 30 minutes of my life.
I've seen Coheed 6 times in concert. This song. This one song. The amount of power in the crowd during the chorus and in Claudio is so palpable. It beats almost every single concert experience I've ever had.
@@AdeptN7 My brother in the Keywork. I'm glad you got to finally see them. The Prise are smiling on you. I wish I got to see them with Incubus in Austin. Unfortunately, concerts are hard for me now (hearing issues). Man your own jackhammer for me.
Been there buddy. Saw them in san francisco in September with my son. He is a huge Coheed fan...keywork tattoo on his arm. They played this and it actually brought me to tears. Such an amazing experience with my son.
They have a lot of good songs that can be listened to as singles, but they are kind of a "listen to the whole album" kind of band for the full experience. A pretty accessible starting point for them is the album "Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness", but the album this song came from is also a good one. They are still making good albums, although I am less familiar with their newer stuff.
@@KrayzieStiles I have heard single tracks off most of their albums, and it has always been good. But I haven't listened to a whole album of theirs since "Year of the Black Rainbow" for no particular reason other than I haven't gotten around to it.
The part where you got chills that stayed around is exactly the part where every single Coheed fan on the planet gets the same chills, EVERY. DAMN. TIME!
I've heard this song a bunch, but I was still a little curious about which part you were talking about. I also got chills lol. I think it's that the whole crowd singing those OHs really gives a feeling of camaraderie, like we are all coming home.
Never heard this song before. I read this comment and I was actually waiting for that moment to see if what was the fuss about and as that section started I got chills haha. I need to listen to more Coheed, that's pretty similar in essence to the end of Welcome Home and I love that ending
Became a fan of Coheed in 2004 during my freshman year of high school and have been proudly a child of the fence since. The Starland ballroom set is SO SO GOOD. The way they are performing to the crowds energy is absolutely insane. I don’t think they’ve ever performed in Keeping Secrets this way where the tempo is much faster than the studio recording. Ahhh I freaking love Coheed. They are GOAT’s imo
I’ll admit I’m only an occasional viewer and I almost never comment on anything but if there’s a coheed reaction, I’m there. These guys are my all time favorite; Claudio Sanchez is an absolute legend and a huge inspiration for me. You wont be disappointed by diving into their music. Even though there is a fictional story behind most of their songs the lyrics still have lots of relatability and realism. Claudio has often said the songs start from a very real place and then he morphs them into fiction. All the other guys are great too and really bring the songs to life. Truly an awesome one of a kind band.
The Nervous Energy sessions were recorded right before I saw Coheed for the first time, in Birmingham, AL. They're fantastic. Josh was so happy to be back, lol.
Claudio from Coheed and Cedric from The Mars Volta have two of the craziest high ends in Rock. really hope you do Volta at some point, you'd have a field day analyzing them.
Listen to some of Andre Matos and Eduardo Falaschi's works, they both are Brazilians and their hiogh ends are terrific. You can look at live performance of song Pride by Shaman.
For real his breath control has only improved. I've seen them live twice now and those little moments where he stops singing because he's out of breath almost never happen now. Even when he's literally jumping across the stage while playing. it's crazy.
For what it's worth, Claudio (lead vocals) has gotten *drastically* better as the years have gone on. This is a very early recording as he's still learning to carry himself live. I've seen them since 2003 every tour and he just gets tighter and more consistent every pass. This is a very rough demonstration of what he's capable of. Also, thank you for starting with one of my absolute favorite Co&Ca songs. You really tapped into some of the crying desperation in his tone that is so important to the song. Listen to their album work or more modern live performances if you really want to understand how he works his voice. This song, I still believe, is one of the best opening tracks of the modern era for their genre(s).
I first saw them in 2004 and his vocals were rough. I saw them again in 2006 and the difference was incredible. I imagine he only continued to improve since then.
It always bothers me when the performance she reacts to is a bad quality recording or an odd live version. I wish she would use only high quality lives and music videos.
Coheed and Cambria literally brought me out of a dark time in my life… They woke something up inside me. For two years… I listened to nothing else. I didn’t know how I was ever going to face my depression. I was shutting down mentally and lost my ability to feel happy. I found and built up my will to fight because Claudio makes some bad ass music! .. I’m blown away with the talent on those drums though…fucken amazing.. .. This video is like the cherry on top.. I’ve never heard anyone break down music this way.. very cool.
God, i love all my fellow Coheed nerds in this comment section. It's been awhile since I've heard this particular performance, and you can really tell how far Claudio has come with his voice nowadays. I definitely agree with those who are asking you review some newer performances, ESPECIALLY the acoustic performances (ghost, atlas acoustic, sentry the defiant acoustic, etc.)
Iron Fist, Taylor Guitars live version, is another great example. Even that's "old" by now though, they've done a ton of amazing and solid live stuff since then, come to think of it.
commend section i like that! haha i know it was an unintentional typo, but also, the commend section is where we commend them with our comments! With commendations!!
There are a handful of things I'd like to do for the first time again just to re-experience the emotional rush that came with them. Unwrapping the copy of In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 and listening to it for the first time is definitely one of them.
This was the first song I heard from them. I still very much remember that moment. I rediscovered them a few years later and they've been my favorite ever since.
@@Plemay Go with Album order. Second Stage Turbine Blade, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, Good Apollo 1, Good Apollo 2:No World for Tomorrow, Year of the Black Rainbow, Afterman Ascension/Decension, Color Before the Sun, Vaxis 1, Vaxis 2. IKSSE:3 and GA1 are considered their best by some. Some will say Aftermans. Color Before the Sun is considered to be worst by most. She kinda touched base on it in the video but Claudio has written a whole universe that corresponds with the songs. Mostly in comics, but there's a novel and some smaller literature pieces. SSTB through NWFT go over the main story. Black Rainbow is the prequel to that. Afterman is the prequel to everything pretty much. It's hard to explain. Then Vaxis saga is YEARS AND YEARS after No World. Color Before the Sun isn't part of the concept cause the band was dealing with some stuff and just wanted to express their emotions without the veil of the concept. THEN Claudio has a side project called Prize Fighter Inferno that deals with a major side character in story. Theres a lot there. If you're looking for a good group, look up Cobalt and Calcium on Facebook thats the officially unofficial fan group.
I’m 59 years old - I’ve been in love with Coheed ‘ since the beginning - and The Amory Wars. Their music is so joyful, even when the song is about something not necessarily happy. I’ve been to their shows and moshed and sang and shouted with all the kids. More people need to experience the uplifting energy of this music!
I didn't know you were a Coheed fan! I'd love to hear you talk about Mic Todd on your channel some time. (Nothing against Zach, he rocks, but I just loved Mic's Jaco-influenced style.)
Most of that Live Album tempo's are wild haha! The Crowing Live from Starland is like 10 BMP faster than the studio recording! This one is like rocket speed haha!
@@TonyCole-o9f Agreed. The vocals are hard to make out in this live version and his voice is so unique that a cleaner live performance or studio track would've been a better intro.
That is the song I've discovered them with a few years ago, heard it on some TV series, and was hooked on that specific song ever since. It's phenomenal.
your reaction at about 28:30 was exactly what i was waiting for, seeing this song live and getting to the "ohs" is almost a religious experience, it makes me tear up every time (I've seen them live 6 times)
@@GalacticCenterOG I don’t know, I’ve seen them a bunch of times and that has occurred each time. I’ve seen roger waters a handful of times and there are different moments in different shows. I think it’s pretty reliable.
The Light and the Glass from this same concert is such a great display of Claudio’s vocal prowess as well! So stoked the patrons campaigned for this band. Easily my favorite band of all time. Shouts out to the patrons among the fence 🤘🏼
I love this acoustic version of The Light and the Glass. Been playing it so much my 3.5yo has requested it as a bedtime song. Little guy is One among the fence!
MAN YOUR OWN JACKHAMMER! ONE AMONG THE FENCE! The fact that you're picking up on some of the elements they purposely put in to their music for the narrative aspect is AWESOME. The wartime sounds, the crying out and pleading for help... it's all intentional. Might I suggest listening to one of their more mainstream hits "The Suffering". Coheed has brought me through so many hard times in my life. Seriously one of the greats that probably won't get recognized for it.
The note he hits in the bridge is mind bogglingly high. I don't think I've ever heard him hit a note like that since. ruclips.net/video/X72sY3rD1_4/видео.htmlsi=2Z0GhHtE8ykcwSTT&t=361
Willing Well! Willing Well! Willing Well! Willing Well! Do The Willing Well!!! Omg, like, I just can't say enough. Coheed deserves so much more acclaim than they get. Claudio is masterful, the entire group are musical geniuses. Did you know their music tells the story of their comic? It's like a soundtrack for the narrative. I will never get over how complex their artistry is. Coheed has played such an important role in the evolution of my understanding and appreciation for musical expression. Every song is a whirlwind of emotion, exploring the depths of the soul, of what it means to be human. Concepts relating to psychology, faith, suffering, conflict, hope, and so much more. The older I get, and the more music I'm exposed to, the more I recognize that Coheed is and always will be one of the greatest of all time.
@@mikeydubbs8565 I'd agree on Part III if she only did one, but I'm hopeful she'll do the full 4-part 30 minutes. It deserves the respect, lol. But yeah, III is definitely the one to go with if you could only pick one. Or if she'd be willing to do II and III, that would at least give a better sense of the full set.
God, I really wish any react person would just listen to the Willing Well suite as one piece. All I ever see is Welcome Home and occasionally this song when it comes to older Coheed.
Seeing this song live was one of the most amazing experiences i have ever had. The chills you could feel everywhere radiating from every fan. The crowd participation. It was exactly what you said. Magical.
when they go back into the intro.... there is NOTHING like this moment live.. Ive seen them play a few times and the crowd energy during this, during 'Man your own Jackhammer!' is incredible. The crowd can get so loud you cant hear the vocals.
I've seen them live 4 times, and i fully support this comment. there is a level of crowd energy thats never been matched in any other concert i've been to.
They played in Ft Wayne a couple years back and there was multiple times he stopped singing because we kept over powering him. He had the biggest smile that entire show, it was awesome
The facial expressions during the outro says it all. The way her eyes went wide when she heard MAN YOUR OWN JACKHAMMER! Hearing that live is when my soul leaves my body and I ascend to another dimension. A Coheed show and Coheed fans are something truly special. There’s nothing else quite like it. I’m still riding the high from seeing them a year ago. I will be deeply in love with this band for the rest of my life.
This band is the top of my "brag because I was into them so early" bands. Saw them at some dive in St. Louis in June 2002 on a fluke due to last minute plan changes. Been a huge fan ever since and in the 22 years I've followed their music they've stayed so authentic and enjoyable.
In every Coheed show I've been to, the end of this song is the absolute highlight (in a night of highlights). The crowd's energy during that section sweeps you away.
I absolutely love this band, seen them 6 times live (once supporting Deftones), and I have the comics, deep into the lore, side projects etc. You've just given a whole new love for this song, breaking down the longing for coming home and then getting chills in the build up to the last chorus. Coheed are what we call in the UK a Marmite band. You either like them or you don't. I'm stoked that you enjoyed this, and hopefully it leads to more Coheed reviews.
I dont know how there aren’t more people talking about Claudio’s voice during The Light & the Glass from this performance. That song gives me chills but the live version is somehow even more impressive.
I am a literal card carrying Child of the Fence and I am beside myself wondering which song of theirs I want you to do next ... there are so many songs I would love to see. Whatever you do, just pick another one soon!
They are such musical perfectionists. Saw them in 2003 when this album came out at the Newport in Columbus Ohio. They melted everyones faces off for well.over an hour and the last song, they got a few stanzas in and Claudio just stopped mid song and started saying damn guys Im so sorry. I messed up a bit back there and it has been just such a perfect show I didnt want to end on that note. They then started back at the beginning and rocked it. Nobody woulsve known he messed up but they love their fans so much and want to give us our money's worth. Forever fan after that night.
Claudio has a wicked range and does a lot of really interesting stuff vocally on the first album and this one. He came a super long way over the years as a guitarist also
Just saw them live on Aug 3rd. This was the first song they played. The entire arena screaming "Man your own jackhammer!" was thunderous and exuberant. I LOVED IT SO MUCH!!!❤
C&C albums should all be listened to in their entirety and really in one sitting. The concerts are not just a greatest hits list, and they truly play the albums from start to finish. When I was a teen, I listened to Blink 182, Lincoln Park and more commercial music. It was once I hit senior year in high school that I heard Delirium Trigger and I have been hooked ever since. Forever expanded my ideas of what music could be.
They do both full album concerts but their bigger tours are a mix of songs from different eras. The album play-through concerts are awesome though. They also have a cruise which I have not been to yet.
There is nothing like seeing them live with an amazing fanbase behind this end of the song.. You'll get chills every time. If you have the chance.. do it.. you won't regret it.
@@RobSTAR_IVI’m fairly new to the Coheed world and I heard a lot of negative things about the base but after a dozen a shows and two Coheed cruises I can tell you there’s not a more chill fan base. Some more intense than others but it’s always been a great experience.
I'd say "I agree" but simply agreeing doesn't do it justice. You're spot on. Coheed puts on indescribable shows. I'll never forget the 2014 Neverender tour-it was my first time seeing them, and they did IKSSE3 for it. Opening with this song, with a sold-out, 5000-person crowd singing along, HAUNTS me. Top-3 live performance among the many hundreds of shows I've been to.
I am a die hard Coheed fan and have seen them more times than I can count. The live performances are incredible and the fans create an amazing experience I've never felt before. Glad you chose this song. It really captures the energy
The lead singer has another project called The Prize Fighter Inferno. That project and this band are both tied into his series The Amory Wars. Their album titles are usually the titles of each Amory Wars volume. It's a pretty neat thing he's done. Dude's also just a chill, nice guy. EDIT: Claudio's vocal range is pretty insane. Especially in songs like 'A Favor House Atlantic' and 'Blood Red Summer'.
I will never forget that I was teen at Warped Tour crowd surfing to Coheed and Cambria as they were playing Welcome Home! Such a great band that doesn’t get enough recognition today!
My very first time ever hearing them was at a Warped Tour and it was kinda magical. I hadn't really heard of them but they played the stage slot right before AFI (which was the big show I was there for) so I was just there so I could get a good spot close to the stage after their set. I think I skipped NOFX for it and it ended up being a great decision, they put on a hell of a show.
@@_zind they really did man! Warped Tour was an era for sure. I went in Charlotte to see Killswitch Engage, Gym Class Heroes, Paramore, Underoath and more! What a time for music!
So often your analysis brings me to tears- watching you see what I see and hear what I heard (and ALL of my friends) just brings me back through the first time I heard not just Coheed, but so so many of the other artists you analyze. Thank you for so MUCH for all of the joy!!!
I first saw Coheed in D.C. almost 10 years ago. They opened with this song, and the energy in the room was like a bomb went off. Definitely one of the most memorable concert moments I've ever experienced.
10 years ago would have been their Neverender tour for IKSSE:3. I saw them 3 years later during GA1's Neverender but luckily this was one of the couple songs they performed after they finished GA1. Their live performances are truly a blessing to witness in person.
I saw them live at warped tour 9-10 years ago and had the same experience. This song, the suffering, and blood red summer all had the crowds going crazy lol
I'm sure I was somewhere in that crowd with you! I've seen them every time they came to the DC, MD, VA area since the mid 2000s. Always an amazing show!
So glad you're finally getting to Coheed! This video and song is great, but if you'd like something more recent to follow up with I have a few recommendations: The Dark Sentencer (Live) - Official live performance of another excellent progressive song meant as the intro to one of their recent album "The Unheavenly Creatures" Domino The Destitute (Official Music Video) - Another prog banger, whose official music video really shows off the story behind the song. The Pavilion (A Long Way Back) - a shorter and less intense song, and a great performance from Claudio. Thanks for everything you do! Love the content. 😃
It's better to listen and explore their studio stuff. They play with so much energy that they don't always play as consistently and tight as their studio work. Their albums display their songwriting genius.Their concerts demonstrate their passion and energy.
I might be biased but they sound better live than a lot of bands in their space / tangential spaces. Coheed and letlive (rip) were the closest to studio I've found, maybe thank you scientist? But I've only seen them once but remember loving it
Tbh nowadays they're about as tight and clean a band as you'll find. Back in this Neverender they weren't as clean, but they're so damn sharp live as they've got older, it's actually pretty remarkable considering the technicality of the music.
Amazing you recognised that moment!! Because it is a moment all Coheed fans cherish from their live shows! And yes it is just as electrifying in person!!!
Claudios talent is so underrated, playing all those riffs, syncopated guitar parts and progression of the whole music all while he's friggin singing. I wonder how much time he had spent on honing such precision on 2 things simultaneously different.😶🌫
🤯Completely🤯Blown🤯Away🤯in the best possible way. It's been decades since I've had a musical experience/revelation even close to what I just experienced with this group, and I've been actively listening to a broad international spectrum since getting my first 45 in 1963. Damn, I need another lifetime just to wrap my arms around their sound, lyrics, and production. Thank you @MelancholieT and Elizabeth so very much. I never thought I'd feel something like this again. Now I know a tiny bit how Lazarus must have felt🤣
LETS GOOOOOO! Having seen them live many times, this song is the fan anthem for sure. Nothing compares to the energy of being in the crowd at a Coheed show for me.
Welcome Home has an amazing energy live as well. That song is a damn genuine rock/metal anthem. You can’t help but get hyped when that song starts playing and the drums come to life.
I love how she immediately notes their unique guitar arrangements. Ive always seen them as a band with 2 lead guitar players. Travis and Claudio are both amazing. This is demonstrated best in The Final Cut when they have dueling guitar solos
Absolutely. They're awesome live but the music is incredible in the studio version. I believe it's because she needs to choose stuff already on RUclips so there are no copyright issues.
Every element of every Coheed song is intentional based on the part of the story they are telling. Listening to their albums from beginning to end is a really cool experience.
It wasn't, though. At least for the first two or three records. The lyrics came first, based on nonsense syllables Claudio sang to put the vocal melodies to tape. The comics and the story came later, and the story was written to fit the lyrics.
Coheed and Cambria definitely aren't for everyone, even though they do cover quite a lot of styles. I've known people who were turned off by Claudio's singing and the high concept lyrical stuff, but when they hit for you they really just hit. It's impossible for me to be in a bad mood listening to them, one of my ultimate comfort bands. Also hands down one of the best live bands I've ever seen. There's a video on RUclips cut from the Neverender tour of them doing an encore medley of Everything Evil, The Trooper by Iron Maiden and Devil in Jersey City, and the energy from the crowd is just insane Also I definitely see what you mean with the comparison to Chino Moreno at times. I actually saw Coheed opening for Deftones in 2010, they made a great pair. I do think this performance might give you the wrong impression of what to expect from Coheed though, they're not usually quite this intense haha
Their mix of Emo and Post-hardcore with Progressive rock is masterful. I’ve heard them compared to Rush talent wise more than a few times. And hearing Claudio’s voice live is unbelievable. Please do more post-hardcore and Emo bands. Whole genres of rock full of dramatic intense energy like this, layered harmonizing screams with clean vocals, and goosebump moments that need to be experienced to fully round out your exploration into distorted vocals and rock music.
I've only heard 2 songs Coheed and until this song I never realized that they do have Emo in their sound. Claudio's voice actually reminded me of the vocalist of a band I used to listen called Armor For Sleep. They both have that high winy voice (not meant as an insult, I actually like it), but Claudio is a way better singer.
My all time favorite band, my all time favorite song and my favorite version of it. I've seen them every time they've come to the Phoenix/ Arizona area and even and to California for the IKSOSE 3 10 year release tour where they played this album in its entirety. Every time I hear this song live it has an energy in the crowd I can't explain except pure energy, lightning in a bottle. The flood of emotions it brings and all the goosebumps beings me to tears. Being in the crowd when the chants start is wild, we all become 1 among the fence. Words can't describe the feelings you get in the crowd during this song. Thank you for covering this!
Honestly, I'm surprised every time when I hear you talk about how someone sounds, and all the language that comes with it. I never took any voice lessons, so I never had the terms in my knowledge, but they make perfect sense when you also visually show us. And while I still couldn't describe someone's voice who is new to me using those terms on my own, I understand what you describe 100% for these videos, it really activates my mental visualization for it. It's just really cool that that is how voices can be described, especially when you talked about having resonance or a dome, or a forward, pressed voice etc.
You mentioned getting chills at the crowd chant moment. I'm the exact same way. I've seen them live 6 times and every single time this part happens I get chills and tear up. It's such an emotional moment in the song.
I've never been to any other live show where the audience so thoroughly overpowers the band in terms of volume. No speakers can compete with thousands of people screaming their lungs out in perfect unison. That shit is transcendent.
Honestly, I think Claudio's singing has improved a lot over time. He's overcome some serious health limitations and practiced a lot over the years, and it shows in his performances. Definitely check out some of the more recent songs, like Ghost, Old Flames, or The Window of the Waking Mind.
I 100% agree! He's always been solid but ever since the Afterman albums he's done nothing but get better and better. His voice is phenomenal now. One of the few vocalists who get better with age. Id put him in the same category as Devin Townsend with how good he is now and how he just gets better and better. I'd LOVE to hear her thoughts on Window of the Waking Mind. He uses a lot of voices on that song. And it seems up her alley with how theatrical it is.
I know that the last album wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but I loved it. I think it showed how far they've come as songwriters and artists. Window of the Waking Mind is an unexpected, genre-bending, incredibly accomplished piece of art. One of the best things I've heard in years.
One among the Fence. Yes! I've been waiting so long for Coheed and Cambria to be featured on here. Big fan of this band since 2008, where I had the pleasure to see them live at Voxhall in Århus, Denmark. One of my most cherished concert memories ❤
Not sure if this is the best recording to gauge Claudios' vocals, but LOVE that you're getting to hear them. I recommend the live version of 'Welcome Home' which is what got me hooked on them. Hope you give it a listen.
Guaranteed goosebumps every time. Welcome to one of the greatest bands of our time. There are so many amazing songs for you to dive into and I can’t wait for for next Coheed vid 😎
The song "The willing well pt IV the final cut" is one of my favorite songs. The live performance is called just "the final cut," and it's amazing.🎉 Happy new year everybody.
Been a massive fan of Coheed since 2003 or so. Thanks for giving them a listen! Edit: And if no one else has mentioned this to you, Claudio changes his voice to reflect the voices of different characters in the story told across their albums.
His graphic novels have been getting re released for a few yrs now. I think he's working on refreshing the last chapter No World For Tomorrow this year
Been my favorite band since 2004 when I discovered them. These guys are artists in every sense of the word. The concept band storytelling, the lyricism, the crazy vocal range and the soundstage of these guys has never failed to impress. I second others here in saying - please do a studio version of one of the songs from the first three albums and you'll see even more of what Claudio is capable of.
I actually woke my partner up last night when I seen this notification. There are no words I can use to express Claudio's talents to the extent they deserve
Omg yessssss!! Please dissect this band inside and out. Soooooo many great songs! If you wanna see their more melodic side check out the song Afterman, particularly the Guitar Center Sessions version. So beautiful.
Two of my Favorites, finally coming together. Elizabeth and Coheed!! Thank you!. I've been hoping she would do one of theirs for so long. The Guitar Center Favor House and Welcome Home are two great live recordings, but Everything Evil, it's probably the best live performance I've seen of that song.
I saw the last show of the 2023 tour at the Hollywood palladium and it was incredible. They've been my favorite band since 7th grade, 31 now, they are very cathartic for me. I teared up a few times during this video. Their music has always resonated with me and I will always love them. Thank you for covering them.
Claudio has one of the most unique and distinctive voices in rock, not to mention his versatility and range. You nailed it early--Coheed is very progressive and "characterization" is key to understanding Claudio's choices. All of their music is programmatic and to tell the story he's embodying so many different speakers! This live version adds more distortion and dissonance compared to the album recording. I will mention that more than a lot of bands, Coheed rewards listening to albums rather than songs.
Not only do I love that you picked this particular song; I love that you picked a live version of it. And probably the best live version on RUclips. That ending part is simply magical and one of the best things I've ever witnessed in person. If I may, I'd recommend The Light & The Glass from this same exact show to get the full Claudio experience. Just a musician and his guitar playing (at the time) a brand new song by himself. It is extraordinary.
It finally happening and I've waited so long for this! Coheed and Cambria is one of my all time favorite bands! I have seen them many times live and it never disappoints, but almost always surprises. Claudio is a man of many talents! Another band that I quite like that I hope you check out is called Thank You Scientist which were signed by Claudio to his label Evil Ink Records. Fun fact: Claudio has a comic called Amory Wars and you can definitely hear the connection between their music and comics. Also I didn't even realize or connect this until after the fact and someone asked me about whether or not I named my daughter Cambria because of this band, but now the answer is most definitely yes as much as I'm a fan 😂
32:14 hi! This is the first time I found your channel. Thank you for reviewing my favorite band ever! Many of their albums go along with comic books. This song does reflect a particular battle that is decisive in the war. It takes place underwater. I love that their music conveys so much of the story
I'm so happy you are listening to Coheed. Claudio's voice never fails to give me goosebumps. They haven't released an album yet that I haven't love. Highly recommend their songs - Mother Superior, Welcome home, The Light & The Glass, Wake Up🖤
I'm so pleased that you finally did Coheed and Cambria! That's the problem with polls, they get dominated by more mainstream artists. There are a lot of amazing bands out there. I actually met these guys backstage at a show in Austin.
That moment when "The Magic Happens" and the Crowd-Surfer triumphantly fist-pumps aloft in perfect time with crowd shouting along to the chorus - BAM! Epic!
Coheed and Cambria is criminally underrated.
I've gotten to see them live so many times and god damn they're so good

They deserve more acclaim but thankfully they're not ignored.

I'm so happy that my campaigning finally paid off! Thanks to all the other Patrons who have voted for my varied Coheed suggestions over the last couple of years and put them in that top 5 enough that they caught Elizabeth's attention. I can't wait to watch this! ❤
You're totally welcome, Mel!
So stoked for you Melancholie! 😁😁 Finally!
Thanks to all who have pushed for C&C!!! I'm not a patron but have been pushing for this band for about a year now. ❤❤

TRUTH!
The Suffering is their best song, vocally. I will not be persuaded otherwise.
Yeah this is a strange one for her to pick as the first
Three Evils is a great tune too!!
So much this. A Favor House Atlantic is so damn good.
@@BQCadet And truthfully, it's most people's first introduction to the band.
29:17 "There's some sort of magic that happened right here. It feels like it's beyond words." That's Coheed and Cambria in a nutshell. Such an incredible band.
yessssss
When she said that I was telling myself only if you knew
His phrasing, while playing guitar, is off the charts. The live versions are usually eclipsed by the energy of the crowd so it's a worthwhile endeavor to check out the album versions of their music. Top 5 favorite band of all time.
His prodigious phrasing and vocals were made for live, it feels! Even more than some big popular rock names! 🎤 🎉
I completely agree. I think an album version is needed for review.
The studio versions also usually have a higher harmony from Claudio, and a couple even have his blood curdling screams!
Definitely need an album cut for analysis. Coheed may be proggy but it's like emo/post-punk prog, and their live shows are appropriately chaotic. Live performances are expected to be all over the place and out of tune. This band gets super precise and pretty when they get in the studio
Yeah idk why she always picks the live video
I was blessed and lucky enough to see them at Troubadour pretty early on, buddy said he heard this band was pretty good. I was just shocked.
This. Yes. A thousand times this.
Literally just heard this song for the first time 2 days ago. I’m obsessed it’s been on repeat ever since
I've seen Coheed 6 times in concert. This song. This one song. The amount of power in the crowd during the chorus and in Claudio is so palpable. It beats almost every single concert experience I've ever had.
I live for the day...!!!
I finally got to see them 2 weeks ago live at The Ritz. LOVE that they played this one and opened with The Dark Sentencer(my current favorite).
@@AdeptN7 My brother in the Keywork. I'm glad you got to finally see them. The Prise are smiling on you.

I never heard of this band. I love what I heard. They gained a new fan.
@@timseguine2their last two albums, Vaxis 1 and 2, are fantastic.

@@KrayzieStiles I have heard single tracks off most of their albums, and it has always been good. But I haven't listened to a whole album of theirs since "Year of the Black Rainbow" for no particular reason other than I haven't gotten around to it.
@timseguine2 yeah I 100% agree with you that they are definitely more of a listen to the whole album type of band.
The part where you got chills that stayed around is exactly the part where every single Coheed fan on the planet gets the same chills, EVERY. DAMN. TIME!
I know I did. Literally had goosebumps when she stopped it there. 27:57
I've heard this song a bunch, but I was still a little curious about which part you were talking about. I also got chills lol. I think it's that the whole crowd singing those OHs really gives a feeling of camaraderie, like we are all coming home.

Really?
Same here, became a fan in high school after hearing A favor house atlantic and have been a fan since. Very underrated band from that time!

His Mother Superior and Feathers acoustic versions are AMAZING and really showcase his vocal development over the years!
Feathers is a fun video too - if I remember right, the whole band is comically murdered.
The Nervous Energy sessions were recorded right before I saw Coheed for the first time, in Birmingham, AL. They're fantastic. Josh was so happy to be back, lol.
mother superior is such a great pull!! totally agree.
The "Afterman" series has a mountain of gems that I'm sure she could spend days breaking down
Mother Superior acoustic. Even Claud doesn't know the words. 😂
Claudio from Coheed and Cedric from The Mars Volta have two of the craziest high ends in Rock. really hope you do Volta at some point, you'd have a field day analyzing them.
De-Loused in the Comatorium is one of the best albums of all time imo.
Listen to some of Andre Matos and Eduardo Falaschi's works, they both are Brazilians and their hiogh ends are terrific. You can look at live performance of song Pride by Shaman.
This is one of their earliest live performances and claudio’s live voice has somehow only gotten much better and stronger as the years have gone on
This song came out in 2003.
I remember reading that he stopped smoking.
For real his breath control has only improved. I've seen them live twice now and those little moments where he stops singing because he's out of breath almost never happen now. Even when he's literally jumping across the stage while playing. it's crazy.
I was going to say, this isn't even a great live version of the song.
@@thingocandybeans he also lost a ton of weight. I saw them in 2003 and he was huge.
He's always been a fantastic vocalist, it's amazing to see how much better he's gotten!
I first saw them in 2004 and his vocals were rough. I saw them again in 2006 and the difference was incredible. I imagine he only continued to improve since then.
Seeing good apollo stuff would be cool
It always bothers me when the performance she reacts to is a bad quality recording or an odd live version. I wish she would use only high quality lives and music videos.

Coheed has been my favorite band for nearly 20 years now. Watching people discovering them for the first time is just awesome. Thanks for this.
Discovering them just now with this reaction!! Would you suggest a better order of album to dive into their universe?
Thanks in advance!

They do both full album concerts but their bigger tours are a mix of songs from different eras. The album play-through concerts are awesome though. They also have a cruise which I have not been to yet.

My very first time ever hearing them was at a Warped Tour and it was kinda magical. I hadn't really heard of them but they played the stage slot right before AFI (which was the big show I was there for) so I was just there so I could get a good spot close to the stage after their set. So glad you're finally getting to Coheed! This video and song is great, but if you'd like something more recent to follow up with I have a few recommendations:
The Dark Sentencer (Live) - Official live performance of another excellent progressive song meant as the intro to one of their recent album "The Unheavenly Creatures"
Domino The Destitute (Official Music Video) - Another prog banger, whose official music video really shows off the story behind the song.
The Pavilion (A Long Way Back) - a shorter and less intense song, and a great performance from Claudio.
Thanks for everything you do! Love the content. 😃
Hell yeah! This band is the reason I became a drummer! I was 11 years old when I heard this album. Blew me away! Been a fan since.
It's better to listen and explore their studio stuff. They play with so much energy that they don't always play as consistently and tight as their studio work. Their albums display their songwriting genius.Their concerts demonstrate their passion and energy.
Very well said! Claudio is never perfect live, but he is always exciting!
Though they are stunningly close to flawless live. They have live recordings to prove it. Really dialed it in since the earlier days with Mic on bass.
I might be biased but they sound better live than a lot of bands in their space / tangential spaces. Coheed and letlive (rip) were the closest to studio I've found, maybe thank you scientist? But I've only seen them once but remember loving it
@@caxe7 yup!
I've seen them live 3 times and every. Damn. Time. This moment has been the most incredible goosebump catharsis. Ive yelled the lyrics so loud
I'm so happy to hear this!! Coheed is easily one of my favorite bands. Check out their discography!
Welcome to the fan club! They’re absolutely otherworldly. My favorite song is The Suffering
LETS GOOOOOO! Having seen them live many times, this song is the fan anthem for sure. Nothing compares to the energy of being in the crowd at a Coheed show for me.
You’re goddamn right!
Been a die hard coheed and Cambria fan for 20 years now and am so excited to see you recognize them! They are so underrated.
lets goooo me too
I found my tribe
I can't wait!! Have gotten to see them in concert a few times, and they are INCREDIBLE!! Claudio's voice is one of a kind for sure.
Nothing like the feeling of being at their live show ans screaming MAN YOUR OWN JACKHAMMER, MAN YOUR BATTLE STATIONS with a whole crowd of fans
I’ve watched this performance probably 1000x and I get chills at that part literally every time.
YAAAAAAAAAY! I've been asking for Coheed for two years, and a solid song pick too. Thank you thank you thank you. Made my weekend.
The entire concept behind this band, the ongoing story of the albums, the books... They don't get nearly enough recognition. Claudio is brilliant.
Man, I'm so happy you finally listened to them yet saddened that you chose a live version and not a studio recording.
The studio versions are great but they are an amazing live band!
Bingo. She really needs to hear the brilliance of the crafted studio work; which is brilliant.
Yeah, this wasn't the best performance to pick imo.
@@Mensch777yeah it sounded great in the venue at the show probably but this recording of it isn't great
Yeah, no..
There's a video on RUclips cut from the Neverender tour of them doing an encore medley of Everything Evil, The Trooper by Iron Maiden and Devil in Jersey City, and the energy from the crowd is just insane
Also I definitely see what you mean with the comparison to Chino Moreno at times.
He sang on a cover version of Anthem (from Rush) on Two Minutes to Late Night. Fit the song very well.
Biiiiiiiiiig same. Especially in a indoor venue where it just echoes. So good!
Yep. Screaming Man Your Own Jackhammer is a religious experience.
@@turnitsideways6202 truly!
I've never been to any other live show where the audience so thoroughly overpowers the band in terms of volume. No speakers can compete with thousands of people screaming their lungs out in perfect unison. That shit is transcendent.
One of the greatest bands of all time, please do more!
“I’m wondering heavily where his voice is gonna go.”
Me: Oh, girl. 💕
Coheed is still my favorite after 20 years.
The live performance is called just "the final cut," and it's amazing.🎉 Happy new year everybody.
the guitar in it is unreal I love the sound
She paused at the first "Man your own Jackhammer" My chest about exploded with suspense.
I nearly died when she stopped at the last one.
I am so hyped for this. This is my favorite Coheed album and this is one of my favorite performances of theirs
Been a massive fan of Coheed since 2003 or so. Thanks for giving them a listen! Edit: And if no one else has mentioned this to you, Claudio changes his voice to reflect the voices of different characters in the story told across their albums.
Yeah, the story is the primary focus at all times. (Didn't the graphic novels he wrote recently get a re-release this last year?)
His graphic novels have been getting re released for a few yrs now. I think he's working on refreshing the last chapter No World For Tomorrow this year
i've been a fan for over 15 years and never knew this, what the hell?? It makes sense, but huh, interesting.
@smolygonal Yeah, they are really brilliant if you like science fiction. I've got thr first 3 volumes in The Amory Wars
@@Terrance865Blu The backerkit for it just ended a few weeks ago. It should be released later this year.
Man- can’t wait till she hears his actual highs- the Running Free is going to blow her mind.
I was there too! Such a good show :D
@@g4cky the longest encore but it was amazing. Wasn't expecting special guest for liars club but he really didn't add anything to it haha
This live version gives me chills every single time. The OG bassist and drummer really connected the band in a special way.
Luckily the drummer came back
Claudio has one of the most unique and distinctive voices in rock, not to mention his versatility and range.
Omg Coheed finally!!! My all time favorite band alongside Iron Maiden, been waiting for you to get to them ❤
Not only do I love that you picked this particular song; I love that you picked a live version of it.
Thank You Scientist is so good 🤘🏻🔥🍻 funk metal kings
I have been waiting so long for you to fall down the Coheed rabbit hole. I’ve always thought of them as my generation’s Rush.
Epic!
Never left a comment on here before. But when you put coheed on I have to. My favorite band of all time glad you finally got to hear and review them.
