Coheed & Cambria is a deep well. This song is a radio favorite but doesn't quite capture how... odd... the group can be in their more adventurous songs. My father once described them as Rush's modern inheritors, which I think is fairly accurate.
Mike Patton / Faith No More was a huge influence on Claudio's song writing and sound as well... and while I still genuinely appreciate this song, it's simply a spark when held to the brilliant inferno that is their larger catalog.
@@SophiaAphrodite while I agree that compared to their contemporaries this song certainly qualifies as odd, comparing it to rest of that album and some of their newer stuff, it's far more palatable for radio listeners than say the Willing Well stuff from the same album.
Coheed definitely deserves a 5 BY. They have such a diverse catalogue. Pop songs, metal songs, prog rock, beautiful ballads ..whatever you want. They get overlooked way too often.
Their first album is amazing (Delirium Trigger, Neverender) but yeah I can definitely agree that their albums are so diverse that they're deserving of a 5 BY.
@@Nimbus3000 yea true - me personally? i love the old stuff, first few albums etc.. but there is a lot to be said for the later stuff as well. Afterman albums were insanely good, hell even Color before the Sun had good songs. Black Rainbow with Chris Pennie is a departure for sure but it had some amazing tracks as well. I havent really listened to Vaxis much but ive liked what ive heard.
They played this song in Kalamazoo MI close to 10 years ago with a lightening storm in the background. We had to wait over an hour for the rain to pass, but once we got back into it…good lordy, what a way to end the show. Powerful song; powerful backdrop. An experience I’ll never forget
Very cool. My daughter was born around the same time as his son. He released the song "Atlas", made me cry like a baby. At the time, I was traveling a lot for work. I'm from a few towns over from where this band originated and have been listening and seeing them live since 2000/2001.

This band is the reason I started playing guitar and drums almost 14 years ago, they will forever be my favourite band and biggest musical inspiration by far!
I don't think later fans of the band realize how hard Welcome Home hit the first time it was ever dropped. They had a countdown on what was basically a single page website, then once it ran out, the site switched to the "IV" and it started playing. Kids today may think that sounds lame, but back then it was cool as hell. They did the same for IKSSE3 but something about GA1 really solidified this band for me. Not to mention getting the record the friday before it came out officially. Man, those were some great times in my life!
I know this is a 2-year-old video but this is one of my favorite bands of all time. And the reason he enunciates his words so much is because all of the albums are interconnected and tell a story. And there's also graphic novels to accompany the music and tell the story. My husband and I named our daughter Cambria and was born to their song "in keeping secrets" 😊✌️ and what's even more crazier is that these guys know nothing about theory 😮
Legit my hometime hero band. Being from Rockland NY seeing them locally and evolve into what they are now makes me extremely happy and proud. The 1st show i saw of theirs the ticket was Co&Ca (Cobalt and Cadmium) I cant believe i lost that ticket smh
Ive actually met and talked with Josh Eppard (the drummer). He is a very down to earth guy. We had a nice conversation about baseball right after a show and he did a great job of not letting me get too starstruck
Travis Stever, the guitarist who did the singing at the very end, also wrote the lyrics for their song "Ten Speed of God's Blood and Burial" and delivers background vocals often. He's had other bands including Fire Deuce and Davenport Cabinet where you can hear him sing.
Ten Speed is great, but I'm pretty sure Claudio wrote the lyrics. That is what Wikipedia says, anyway, and it makes more sense because they tie in directly with the storyline and from what I gather the rest of the band didn't care so much about the story at the time.

Coheed has been my favorite band since I was in high school, way back in 03. This is one of those bands you can enjoy at a surface level, or get lost in the lore. With the exception of one album, every album takes place in a large sci-fi universe. Early on, there were comic books that helped build upon the story. Now, it’s graphic novels. Every song tells another part of the story. Getting deeper into the story really does it for me, and really cements this band as my favorite band of all time. @music shed - Coheed aside, I’d LOVE to see a reaction to The Dear Hunter song linked above. That song…whew. Legitimately a musical masterpiece. The lyrics tell a story, of course, but the music makes you FEEL that story and amplifies it 10 fold. It’s such an enjoyable journey; 10 minutes of emotional roller coaster. From wonder, to sadness, to excitement and exhilaration, to contentment. A masterful use of the medium that I can’t recommend enough. I know I’m just one dude, giving you one recommendation in a sea of review requests, but I truly think you’ll get a kick out of this one.
Fantastic reaction! I'm glad you enjoyed Welcome Home, and I'd love to see you react to some more Coheed! I myself have never made a single comment on RUclips, but I will for this. I agree coheed deserves a 5by. Look into the history of the band and the progression. This band has a cult following much like dance Gavin dance. They are worth checking out. The band even has a live acappella version of “the gutter” if you want to see just how good Claudio’s vocals are. Much respect for what you do and I hope this comment finds you well.

The Amory Wars. I believe there's 4 albums, which I agree, they should all be listened to in consecutive order. There are singles on the albums, but consecutive really tells the story. Then there's the prequel story told in 2 albums..then there's that one that well...they needed to experiment
Claudio has the rare talent of being able to sing live. So many bands and people can’t even get close to how it sounds on the album. It sounds a little different, but he is spot on with how it was recorded
Even tho this was live you need to see them in concert when they feed off the crowd as well. They go even harder, this is probably the best band I've seen live and everytime i am in Awe at what they do. Love Coheed soo much.
Claudio's range is even higher. I don't know where it stopped at but I know the first handful of albums were concept albums telling a story and he would sing from the pov of three different characters, with different voices and ranges for them.
Coheed has been my favorite band since I was 15 back in 2003. Please cover more of them because their discography is so diverse, you can get a different flavor with each song
The drummer Josh is also a great rapper who goes by "Werd Science". Great stuff all around. I was blown away in 2002 when Coheed played their first tour. Been addicted ever since.
As a casual spelunker of music theory, I thank you. This was so easy to soak up and great information. The drums when he goes off beat is something I always loved but couldn't figure what had changed in my headphones. I would love a weekly online class/sesh
I was on a trip in Cuba 15 year ago. After 2 weeks without TV I was in a Hotel in Santiago de Cuba. I just found MTV on the channel list and for the first time the song "The Suffering" was on. This guys are simply amazing! One of the best band ever!
My favorite band. I’ve seen them three times. All their albums are about a big sci-fi story that’s also in the comic series the singer/guitarist writes.
Saw him alone live with Thrice, and Thursday. He sat on the stage playing acoustic because I believe the band wasn’t feeling well, and he rocked that acoustic guitar!
Saw them with Thursday as well way back before I even knew who they were. Was not lucky enough to see Thrice as well. It was a weird card for them. Also played with Norma Jean and Scars of Tomorrow.
Saw this same lineup! Portland ME, oddly saw Norma Jean in Portland around the same time as well. Loved old Thrice and Thursday (waiting is one of my favorite albums of all time)
These guys were amazing live. Claudio’s hair is even more epic in person. They have also done graphic novels to go along with their albums. The whole thing is a storyline. Phenomenal stuff. Just massively creative. Also, the drummer’s brother, Joey Eppard, has a band named 3. They have an album called Wake Pig which is just epic. You’d love it. Take a dive!!
Please please explore more of this band!! They are spectacular and have such a range in their catalog. Some great next picks might be The Crowing, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth III, Gravity’s Union, or Sentry the Defiant. Such an amazing band with a really interesting story woven into most of their albums.
First off Claudio's Hair is it's own rockstar, that said I have been a HUGE Coheed fan since 07, have had the pleasure of seeing them live 3x, one of this three times I helped build the stage....for my favorite band. Love welcome home, but honestly is on the bland side of coheeds catalog.... one song that I love now cause I didn't care for it by the original artist is Hello covered by Claudio, it give you a true sense to just how amazing of voice he has..... with coheed you need to just dive in and go on a ride, the are what Led Zeppelin is to me and that is definitely God's of Rock.. Claudio is such a great Writer, Producer, Composer, all while giving his band mates the complete freedom to express themselves... I'm no musician but I love how they can sound soooo off beat but be soooo perfectly on time, and that sound is what drew me in. They are AMAZING!!!
A friend of mine recommended this band to be back in the early 2000's. I walked down to my local record store and picked up a copy of IKSSE3. One day I was on the bus on my way to band practice and was listening to it in my headphones. As soon as I was less then halfway through the opening title track my mind was absolutely shattered. They have been one of my favorite bands ever since and I even have the Keywork logo tattooed on my upper back.
Right on, Teach! Yeah, I first heard Coheed in 2005, while I was getting a half-sleeve tattoo on a Saturday Morning. I stopped the artist and said, "OMG! WHo is this band? They are fantastic". So they turned it up louder than it already was, and we enjoyed this CD twice-over for the next few hours. Claudio is insanely great at what he does. You nailed when you talked about his style and presentation. He is the most honest performer I've ever seen. That is what makes him so damn good. From his songwriting, production and phrasing, to his look, vocals, and guitar playing. He is 100% the real deal...and I can feel it! If you ever get a chance to see them live, do so!!!
Coheed is one of my top 5 bands and Welcome Home live never disappoints. Seeing it live, they tend to take different directions, including a dueling guitars thing at times.
Coheed is one of the greatest. I discovered them late, but I love everything they've ever put out. They weirdly started as a post-hardcore in the vein of At The Drive-In, had a few bangers that hit with the emo crowd, ect
I've seen them twice live. They are a really good show to see. When they first came out a lot of people were surprised with Claudio's voice as a lot of the first singles he was singing in a falsetto.
Coheed and Cambria have been one of my favs for 20 years this is their best song ever. I just saw them in 2019 Live here in Asbury Park NJ they were awesome as expected.
Speaking on Claudio’s hair: I’ve seen them live several times and this man with, in the middle of a song and with one hand, go from epic main to perfect pony tail in .3 seconds.
I've seen them live a lot. But my favorite was when they opened for Linkin Park. My two fav bands. Coheed is a deep deep band. There are stories behind the albums. Claudio does the comic books. Welcome Home is about his now wife that broke his heart before they got married. The GUITAR CENTER version of Welcome Home is the best I've ever seen. It never gets old. His sister is a hair stylest. She does his hair. His brother is a boxer. A song has been written about him by Claudio. Listen to Final Cut and .21:13. You're Welcome...... I also have a drum stick from LPs set when Coheed opened for them.
I think their song "the suffering" is a good groovy one you could check out in the future! Also just wanted to add this as a side note for a possible video in the future. I'm hoping that you can give a chance to check out a band called Holding Absence 🙏 They have a new record out called "The greatest mistake of my life." It's an album about self worth and dealing with hard times in life and I think it's worthy of a listen. A song I would recommend for you to listen to off the record is called "Celebration Song." That song is about celebrating life and being alive even after losing so much. It also has a very anthemic sound to it and it makes you feel powerful 😭
As a long time Coheed and Cambria fan, all I got to say that their music is a beautiful and deep well. So much variety in styles and depth of lyrics. The whole team is just so talented. Each album is a treat in it's own right.
My brother and I seen them twice. I love their music! One of their tours was with Taking Back Sunday 2018. The last song of Coheed’s set was about to start. The lights were dimmed red and we could see Claudio with the double neck and we KNEW what song was coming~ I would love to go see them again!
Seen them live twice. They are even better in person. We took our 15 year old daughter… named Cambria.. to see them 2 years ago. 2nd row. Was amazing. Their old stuff sounds so different from this but is just as good, my kids love the comic books and music.
I love coheed and cambria! I've been listening since i was a baby! One of my favorite has to be ten speed!! The way the combined the Loud and emotions of the gutitar, drums, and vocals, with the soft calculated sound of orchesta and strings Is just amazing! I'm trying to get some of my friends into them!! Already starting with my Gf!!
in live performances, the middle of Welcome Home's solo segment is usually different. but as a wee lad, what made this song so memorable was that the entire solo sounded like a battle. Travis would start, then Claudio, back to Travis, etc. it sounded like they were battling it out without overdoing it. amazing song, amazing band all around.
YAAAAS! you finally did Coheed! so glad you did this. Welcome home is by far their most popular song, thanks to the radio and the movie industry but they have some way more intricate music. They are my fav fav favorite band in the world. Claudio is a musical genius, and the band is simply epic! Would be cool to see you do more of their stuff. They are worth doing a 5by for sure!!! Thanks for you insight and reaction as always David. BTW all their albums except for one are concept albums portraying their comic book series, called, The Amory Wars!
Been a fan for over 20 years This song still gives me butterflies. Their discography is so diverse and I love every aspect of it. This is a great song but I don’t think it defines the band. From Fear through the eyes of madness is my personal favorite :)
OH MY GOSH YES! THANK YOU!! Related to Coheed being a bit more of a heavy kind of band, I feel it should be said their sound has changed over the years. I don't really think they're "hard rock" as much anymore, but they're still absolutely amazing (to me).
Josh Eppard (drummer) is the original drummer for this band. Early on, developed an addiction, left the band for like 9 years. Got sober, came back and is such a badass. Better than ever.
I really enjoyed watching your reaction!! Coheed and Cambria are one of my all time favorites!! They just put you in this headspace and transport you to their world. The technicality but also their playfulness is something to speak of. I could go on and on but it's refreshing to see a music teacher take interest in this style of music. I bet your classes are a fun time!! 🤘🍻🎸
Love coheed so much, I'll recommend you to listen to; The hard sell, Gravity's union, or Time consumer. In all Honestly though all of their songs are great.

Even tho this was live you need to see them in concert when they feed off the crowd as well. They go even harder, this is probably the best band I've seen live and everytime i am in Awe at what they do. Love Coheed soo much.
I really hope you've sat down and listened to more of them since this video. They have so much depth to their discography
Claudio's range is even higher. I don't know where it stopped at but I know the first handful of albums were concept albums telling a story and he would sing from the pov of three different characters, with different voices and ranges for them.
The concept is still going. They only did one non concept album. All of the rest are part of The Amory Wars
@@Fizzlepop72 yea I knew they did one. Didn't know which one but such an amazing band.
Coheed has been my favorite band since I was 15 back in 2003. Please cover more of them because their discography is so diverse, you can get a different flavor with each song
I heard this song on the movie called 9 back when I watched it in 2010. I never stopped listening to the band since then!
The drummer Josh is also a great rapper who goes by "Werd Science". Great stuff all around. I was blown away in 2002 when Coheed played their first tour. Been addicted ever since.
Coheed does have a video on here, of a live performance, of this song, with a full ensemble. In case you're curious
I love this band, and this is the song that I found them through in 2014, been a big fan since.
They became my favorite band when I met them 12-13 years ago ... I still love them the same. They are amazing
My favorite band. I’ve seen them three times. All their albums are about a big sci-fi story that’s also in the comic series the singer/guitarist writes.
This band desperately needs a 5 by its basically Rush for Millennials, in the best way possible.
Vocalist gives me goosebumps everytime! You can hear he sings with passion
Loved old Thrice and Thursday (waiting is one of my favorite albums of all time)
@@ryanbennett1532 The Illusion of Safety is one of mine.
Supposed to go see them live on theb18th of Sept. My girl bought vip tickets
Hopped on to write it again: "Please react to Spiritbox - The Mara Effect"
I'll second this. It's a good one.
Coheee and Cambria is my favorite band of all time. I’ve been a fan since the Shibuti days…hell earlier.
I love seeing coheed live Claudio busted a string and literally shredded a solo while restringing the damn guitar dudes are beast
Coheed is one of my top 5 bands and Welcome Home live never disappoints. Seeing it live, they tend to take different directions, including a dueling guitars thing at times.
Someone needs to let David in on the fact alot of thier music revolves around Claudio's comic and novel series. Thier music is so deep due to this.
Coheed is one of the greatest. I discovered them late, but I love everything they've ever put out.
They weirdly started as a post-hardcore in the vein of At The Drive-In, had a few bangers that hit with the emo crowd, ect
Alright now do Window of the Waking Mind, you’ll love that one even more
I've seen them twice live. They are a really good show to see. When they first came out a lot of people were surprised with Claudio's voice as a lot of the first singles he was singing in a falsetto.
I've modeled my voice and usage of enunciation for yeaaaaars which really helped with my classical singing. he truly is my idol
So great watching people react to and find coheed for the first time.
Their acoustic "here we are juggernaut" during the Taylor Guitars set is incredible.
This is my all time favorite band. I’ve seen them 19 times.
I only know a handful of Coheed songs but this live performance is a video I watch pretty consistently. Glad you enjoyed it!
DGD fan boy here…. What you are talking about with the vocals and the enunciating reminds me so much of watching Jon Mess so much, so true
Brilliant band.
Everyone should go watch the video of this song played live during a lighting storm. It's awesome.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS COHEED!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU FOR FINALLY CHECKING THEM OUT!
I am so stoked you're listening to Co&Ca.
Easily my favorite band of all time.
Definitely my favorite band to introduce people to is coheed and Cambria they’re such a fluent diverse group
Been listening to co and ca for a long time.... Excellent reaction. You get it from the technical standpoint, and i love that.
One of the first good songs I ever learned and performed in high school.... good times and that solo was sick to learn
Heard this song a thousand times but I still get goose bumps. GREAT band.
Seen them live twice. They are even better in person. We took our 15 year old daughter… named Cambria.. to see them 2 years ago. 2nd row. Was amazing. Their old stuff sounds so different from this but is just as good, my kids love the comic books and music.
I've seen them three times and it's always incredible.
You noticing his magnificent hair makes me so happy because that’s one of my favorite things about Claudio! 🎸
Coheed was such a HUGE part of my High School years. Their music really formed what I listen to now as a 30 year old.
Go see them live. They’re touring right now!
Prob one of the greatest performances ever. Happy ro see your take.
Been a fan for over 20 years This song still gives me butterflies. Their discography is so diverse and I love every aspect of it. This is a great song but I don’t think it defines the band. From Fear through the eyes of madness is my personal favorite :)
Been waiting for some people who I watch to do some coheed reactions. love it. They do it all very well.
OH MY GOSH YES! THANK YOU!!
Related to Coheed being a bit more of a heavy kind of band, I feel it should be said their sound has changed over the years. I don't really think they're "hard rock" as much anymore, but they're still absolutely amazing (to me).
will always consider coheed my favorite band of all time. started listening when i was like 11
Josh Eppard (drummer) is the original drummer for this band.
You should definitely check out and react to some of their acoustic sets! Their 4 part harmonies are gold!!
Love coheed so much, I'll recommend you to listen to; The hard sell, Gravity's union, or Time consumer. In all Honestly though all of their songs are great.
One of my all-time favourite bands. This is probably one of Claudio's best live vocal performances of this song, too. His voice has just gotten better and better over time.
My favorite band. I’ve got the Keywork on my right hand. Seeing you do this was amazing.
