    That is why I am running nitrous as well. With the way ATP has designed the turbo upgrade for the Focus ST Ecoboost engine, it staddle it with a GT25 exhaust housing and unlike most ST owners I run a GTX3071 because I needed enough turbo to make 500+ hp. However for the speeds in the 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile want to reach I need 600-650 hp. So instead of introducing more lag into the equation, I run what I feel is the largest street turbo on the car and hit it with nitrous to make whatever power I want. As long as you can monitor pressure ratio between backpressure and boost which is what this man is doing on his J series you can bring more air to the table with nitrous than with just boost. Manley H beam rods are good to 600+ so I'm not concerned.

      There's a misconception in the industry that nitrous is an easy power adder, and if you want 300 hp, just add a 300 hp nitrous kit and you're done. With a turbo engine however this isn't always the case. Of course the nitrous can add the required oxygen directly into the combustion chamber but the problem is that we still need to get the increased mass of exhaust flow through the turbine housing of the turbocharger. The net result is that if you're already near the limit of your turbocharger and exhaust manifold pressure is sky high, adding nitrous is unlikely to give you the kind of power improvement you'd expect based on the size of the kit.

    Any ideas on how a J series motor in a hatchback like that would work for a road course car? I like the potential the motor has, and have considered doing the swap for a weekend canyon carver and for occasional track days. I've also toyed with the idea of creating a RWD conversion with the J series. My biggest concern would be weight distribution and handling as a RWD car with that setup. Any thoughts or resources to point me towards?

    Woe... Question. Why does cylinder fire order effect the ability to use dual scroll turbo features. I didn't think it would matter if one crank revolution covers all cylinders regardless.

    • @carlcomputer9686
      @carlcomputer9686 6 лет назад

      Stephen Kelley I believe it might be because of the way it pulses and for best efficiency

    • @Frietpan

      perhaps a more consistant exhaust pulse

    • @stephencregorykelley9850
      @stephencregorykelley9850 6 лет назад

      @@carlcomputer9686 gotcha! So setting up a dual scroll turbo on a flat plane crank is an ideal situation because of nearly resonate exhaust pulsing? Or at least getting as close to that scenario as possible is ideal.

    • @carlcomputer9686
      @carlcomputer9686 6 лет назад

      Stephen Kelley at least from the way they described it. I'd have to see there firing order to know for sure

    • @hpa101
      @hpa101  6 лет назад +3

      The challenge is routing the exhaust runners in the right firing order to take full advantage of a split pulse housing. This isn't difficult in an inline 4 or 6 cylinder engine but in a V configuration engine with a single turbo application the routing of the runners can become problematic depending on firing order. The J35 firing order (1-4-2-5-3-6) however allows one bank to be plumbed to each side of the split pulse housing while achieving the correct firing order into the exhaust housing while keeping the plumbing simple. This isn't possible for example on an LS V8 where the firing order (1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3) includes two cylinders on the same bank in succession.

      I dont disagree at all and have strongly considered doing the swap to AWD. The original goal of the car was to use it as a test bed for Traction Control setup. The AEM doesnt have any TCS tuning done in any basemap so I wanted to be able to see the best strategy for controlling 2WD (and even AWD) traction in the worst possible enviroment, FWD and high torque. Believe it or not I still put down a fair amount of torque in 1-3 gears but 4 and 5 are 800 ft lbs peak. It will see something like 380 in 1st, 480-490 ft lbs in 2nd, and 550 in 3rd.

    • @Sir.VicsMasher
      @Sir.VicsMasher 6 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the reply. Just imagine feeling all 800wtq in the lower gears and not have to let off and loose power/momentum with every gear change. I'm guessing that would use a setup similar to the one found on the AWD 6 speed Acura TL. Wonder if doing an AWD auto swap would be possible because that would take a bunch of shock load off the drivetrain and be more consistent and quicker by not loosing any boost between shifts.

      Yes that is correct, the microphone is there so you can hear them, and eye contact instead of looking disinterested out into the fields yonder 😉
      These are pretty noisy and busy (with visual distractions) events so it's not always as easy and effortless as you might think you nail every interview perfectly each time, but Andre does his best and by far has more hits than misses for you guys. I think so anyway, you are welcome to disagree though.
      Also if it ever came to a fight to the death with anyone he's interviewed a bit of an intense look does give him a head start - Taz.

      Its essentially an SFWD car with the exception of the J series and a synchro transmission. There have been 3.5 +/- years of development so if you added it up that way it would seem expensive. If you built it like it was here it wouldnt be too bad, maybe 30-35k in parts and cage, labor is whatever you can do or have to pay for though so that can be all over the place. This coming year with a sleeved block and dogbox it will continue to increase in investment.
