I own a 2018 LX570 and a 2012 GX460. Both are 3rd World proven luxury SUV's that made it Stateside from Japan but when I want to be low key and under the radar I enjoy our 2013 Highlander Hybrid for it's instantaneous torque and low center of gravity handling characteristics. And for sentimental reasons I still own a 97 4Runner that runs great and serves as our winter beater car. You can not go wrong with a well-maintained Toyota/Lexus SUV or crossover. Trust me they are barely broken in at 150K miles and if they don't make it to 300k+ miles they were not maintained well and washed regularly to prevent major rust. Among all 4 vehicles I have a combined mileage of more than 600,000+ miles that I was never left stranded or coudn't get to point A to B and back to A.

The cargo space is very spacious in the GX and it handles well for daily city driving. The LX may be too cumbersome for daily NYC life. If you are OK with a Highlander I would also recommend the Highlander Hybrid for family hauling duty. The LX in the stable has become more our Sunday driver and "date" car to cruise around with the wife in. Good luck my friend!
Really, our 2008 Highlander hybrid is like a marshmallow, problem is I’ve always had sedans and Subaru wagon’s which are like sports cars compared to these top-heavy vehicles sad face. I’ve heard the earlier 2007 and before Highlander’s are a lot better corner wise.
Gx460 is like a better 4runner in almost every way. I wanted a 4runner, wanted to tow... salesman mentioned he had a used GX460 ...drove it away next day.

Right Lane Hog I’m in Chicago and you are correct. GX’s and 4Runners of the same year and mileage always run for around the same, if not the 4Runner was always a little more expensive. I ended up getting a GX because it just makes more sense when comparing the two.

We wanted an CPO (or other very late model) LX but could not find one in our area for months. I expanded my search to include a GX and we bought a lovely silver 2015 Luxury CPO version. To be candid, my wife was a little intimidated by the size of the LX anyway. I suspect this will be our last vehicle as well. About to head out for a huge road trip to the southwest.

They're the most reliable vehicles in the market at the moment. Absolutely bulletproof. I have a 2017 one and absolutely love it. It's the luxury counterpart to the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado that is so renown for its reliability that it is *the* vehicle of choice for UN forces in harsh environments. It's also a favourite of the Australian market. Treat it well and it will take you anywhere, for a very long time.

Somehow paid $10500 for my 04 GX 470 three years ago 120000 miles from a Lexus Dealer. Lady who had it traded for a new GX...she wasn’t really ready to give up hers, just wanted a refresh. Checked to buy one for a friend, mine is now worth $13000 with 150000? Only 8 GX470’s for sale in Seattle/Portland metro. 200000 plus miles with worn interiors are still over 10k? Would not even think of selling mine for 13k, everything is still perfect, including the Mark Levinson sound. In low gear locked on a icy steep hill, you will need to give it some gas to get it rolling downhill...incredible traction in snow even with all season tires. Also will tow a 20’ ski boat...feels like a forklift it is so heavy on the ground while towing, and the real V8 has plenty of power...easy backup on the boat ramp as it is so compact. Does like to drink the premium gas!
The Mark Levinson sound system in the LS 500 is one of the *WORST* systems I have ever heard! Horrendous! That is the *_single_* reason I would not buy that otherwise great vehicle! In fact, most newer Mark Levinson systems in Lexus sedans are horrendous! I actually sold a 2014 ES 300h hybrid, after a year of ownership, only because I could not STAND the horrid Mark Levinson system in it! The ML sound system in the LX 570 and GX 460 are actually the only ones that are pretty good actually. Those are the only notable *_exceptions!_* And the irony being, the JBL systems in the cheaper Toyotas are outstanding! Yeah that's Toyota for you! 🙄 The best sound system I've ever heard in an automobile is the NAKAMICHI in older Lexus models! Nothing has ever come close to that!

Does Lexus lose their value like any other luxury brand in the states? A new Land Cruiser is $76K while an Escalade is $64K on cars dot com. While a 2009 with less than150,000 miles the LC is $26K and a Escalade is $17K. A new LX570 3-row is $92K while a 2009 is $27K. So the LC drops $50K and the Escalade only drops $48K. Toyota LC is not luxurious and should not have that depreciation compared to another luxury marque.the LX is more like a luxury vehicle in it’s high depreciation of $65 in the last decade.

gx460 is luxury version of landcruiser prado, lx570 is the luxury version of landcruider, prado is cheap version landcruiser. so, gx460 is cheaper version of lx570.
I have both 2019 LX and 2015 GX. For the first time I disagree with you re: GX is peppier. LX is lot more powerful and peppier than the GX by landslide. Don't get me wrong, GX is excellent but LX is a different beast.
I always loved the LX, but sadly they aren't sold anywhere in Europe. This model was already really old in 2019, and I hope that we get a hybrid or electric version in the long run so that the fourth gen LX can also be sold in Europe.
So... I own a 2008 LX570 Found a premium GX460 with about 110k miles. I have very limited garage space. And although I love the LX, I think I want to switch. My Mark Levinson doesn't sound like that. In fact, I think there's something wrong with it. My 13' GS350 ML sounds incredible when listening back-to-back. Likewise, my truck is pretty unsettled on rough roads. My only concerns would be the tailgate and towing. The LX towing has completely changed my world. I literally never touch my truck anymore except to move it or charge the battery because it is completely useless now. I can't imagine the GX being that different but that "trick hydraulic" system you talked about is other-worldly when towing. In a very very good way.

It can't be right but it seems like the LX is smaller in length. Also, I would freak out taking stuff out of back using the gate vs hatch back. Short and simple: I prefer the 08' LX vs 2020 GX.

As a GX owner, I completely agree with you. I have owned 2 LS's and no car can beat them. However I decided to experiment with an SUV and definitely my pick was the GX. This is a solid SUV but I hate how light their doors are. I've been spoilt by LS on having heavy doors that even have close assist. I don't care much for close assist, but light flimsy doors on a premium vehicle is a no no. But I still love my GX!

Do your LX and GX feel like it pulls to the right? Even from braking and accelerating. But when I asked about the alignment at the dealer they said it was fine.

Coming back to this video I realise that the 2017 GX I have has rear heated and cooled seats like the LX does. I dunno if that's a standard post-facelift feature or whether it's something from the higher trims.

There seem to be more 'deals' available on a second hand GX compared to the 4Runner. The GX seems to depreciate at a substantially faster rate considering it comes from the same factory. The GX also finished top of CR's 2019 list of most reliable vehicles.

Bo😅th SUV Purchased new in 2015 in the same price range (75k plus ) but here is asking price of each: GL360 - $17,999, LX570- $36,990.
I have the 2019GX. I also had the 2016 RX and 2014 RX. For a vehicle in this era, the 2019 is outdated. It looks almost the same as the 2012. My 2019 NAV looks like its belongs to another decade...literally. Its not a bad vehicle. Its amazing how the reviewer said GX is a bit more nimble and quicker. Its like driving a tank. V8 is a bit weak and its heavy as can be. From his review, I can't imagine how the LX can be slower and cumbersome.

The lower hood line of the GX (which is actually lower than a lot of other midsize body on frame SUVs) is super great for off-road visibility.

The older highlander hybrids have great instant torque right off the line. It’s a shame they’re getting rid of the V6 in the 2020 model.

Does Lexus lose their value like any other luxury brand in the states?
A new Land Cruiser is $76K while an Escalade is $64K on cars dot com. While a 2009 with less than150,000 miles the LC is $26K and a Escalade is $17K. A new LX570 3-row is $92K while a 2009 is $27K.
So the LC drops $50K and the Escalade only drops $48K. Toyota LC is not luxurious and should not have that depreciation compared to another luxury marque.the LX is more like a luxury vehicle in it’s high depreciation of $65 in the last decade.
Norm T I’m not sure where u got that the LC is not luxurious. The interior is one of if not the best in that segment. Lexus coupes like the RC and LC don’t hold value. Everything else does

Much rather gx460 over new lx models, its lighter and much more capable off roader
gx460 is luxury version of landcruiser prado, lx570 is the luxury version of landcruider, prado is cheap version landcruiser. so, gx460 is cheaper version of lx570.

I have both 2019 LX and 2015 GX. For the first time I disagree with you re: GX is peppier. LX is lot more powerful and peppier than the GX by landslide. Don't get me wrong, GX is excellent but LX is a different beast.
I always loved the LX, but sadly they aren't sold anywhere in Europe. This model was already really old in 2019, and I hope that we get a hybrid or electric version in the long run so that the fourth gen LX can also be sold in Europe.

I hate the front end look of the LX 570. REALLY ugly! That music sucks! The GX 460 is definitely my next vehicle.
So... I own a 2008 LX570 Found a premium GX460 with about 110k miles. I have very limited garage space. And although I love the LX, I think I want to switch. My Mark Levinson doesn't sound like that. In fact, I think there's something wrong with it. My 13' GS350 ML sounds incredible when listening back-to-back. Likewise, my truck is pretty unsettled on rough roads. My only concerns would be the tailgate and towing. The LX towing has completely changed my world. I literally never touch my truck anymore except to move it or charge the battery because it is completely useless now. I can't imagine the GX being that different but that "trick hydraulic" system you talked about is other-worldly when towing. In a very very good way.

@@devonpeters9458 So your timing couldn't be better. I've got a gx 2020 on loaner. So now I know. So glad I own the LX, both in my tiny garage side by side. It can't be right but it seems like the LX is smaller in length. Also, I would freak out taking stuff out of back using the gate vs hatch back. Short and simple: I prefer the 08' LX vs 2020 GX.

Jayden BOGER RX is nice and all but it is not a GX or LX for sure. They are different animals and still made in Japan.
Get a Volvo XC60. Very quiet, surprisingly comfortable and way handsome looking than any Asian SUV’s.

@@tasadem20 XC60 is not in the same class. The RX competes with the XC90. However the Volvo is much less reliable. I like the looks of both.

As a GX owner, I completely agree with you. I have owned 2 LS's and no car can beat them. However I decided to experiment with an SUV and definitely my pick was the GX. This is a solid SUV but I hate how light their doors are. I've been spoilt by LS on having heavy doors that even have close assist. I don't care much for close assist, but light flimsy doors on a premium vehicle is a no no. But I still love my GX!

What about the earlier lx570 s - are they nimbler - day the 2012 year? Problem is on 2018 Highlander hybrid just feels so big and bulky I’m sure a 2012 gx460 would feel the same ??? Also the CVT man if you are in the mountains that thing just roars like a lion when you’re going up a hill and giving it the boot - Bloody annoying.

Coming back to this video I realise that the 2017 GX I have has rear heated and cooled seats like the LX does. I dunno if that's a standard post-facelift feature or whether it's something from the higher trims.

Hi Topher, Looks as if you got a good deal on your GX. This old retired guy would get a kick out of driving it on my Target run...
There seem to be more 'deals' available on a second hand GX compared to the 4Runner. The GX seems to depreciate at a substantially faster rate considering it comes from the same factory. The GX also finished top of CR's 2019 list of most reliable vehicles.
@@rightlanehog3151 I definitely didn't pay bottom dollar for it, but I'm happy with the purchase. Premiums go for a little bit of a...premium too, especially at dealers. But that's a good point - all the FJs and 4Runners I was looking at were as expensive (or more)!
@@TheTopher That's exactly the way it is up here in Canada as well. A GX that started 20-30 K more expensive ends up the same price as a 4Runner after 6-8 years. You would cry if you could see how cheap used GXs are in Canada.

) but here is asking price of each: GL360 - $17,999, LX570- $36,990.

I have the 2019GX. I also had the 2016 RX and 2014 RX. For a vehicle in this era, the 2019 is outdated. It looks almost the same as the 2012. My 2019 NAV looks like its belongs to another decade...literally. Its not a bad vehicle. Its amazing how the reviewer said GX is a bit more nimble and quicker. Its like driving a tank. V8 is a bit weak and its heavy as can be. From his review, I can't imagine how the LX can be slower and cumbersome.
