And I don’t think these new ones will hold up as well. And yes no small engines. I just won’t buy. I’ll by low mileage do used and I will buy new parts for it in case they break in the future.

I absolutely love the Lexus GX. I spent some time working at a Lexus dealer, and the amount that I would see with high miles that still ran like a top was amazing. On top of that, it's one of the last vehicles in its class to come standard with a V8 engine. The only possible competitor I can think of that offers a V8 would be a Chevy Tahoe, which is far lower quality than the Lexus, and costs pretty similarly. On top of all that, the GX is great for off roading. I only wish it offered a manual option like the Toyota Prado in other countries, but I'm sure very few would sell if they did.

Well Done Scotty. I had an 05 also built in Japan. Bulletproof with ZERO $$ spent over 200,000 miles. Sad day when I sold it with my US condo in Palm Springs but the new owner got a great vehicle. Sooo happy!
I now have my 2012 GX with 125,000 kms. Again, not a penny spent. Had a rear suspension air module fail but the dealer fixed it in about an hour - no charge.
Fuel mileage is 13.4 l/100 since new combined. Works out to about 21.2 mpg imperial gallons, which is better than my 05 with the 4.7
You’re so right about no rattles or squeaks. So smooth. My daughter just bought a new BMW X5. Besides the upgraded infotainment, I’d take my GX anyday. I run a lot of winter kms up and down our local ski mtn. The traction control system is wonderful for a larger heavy vehicle. I just wish they’d make this model in a hybrid.
To finish. If you want a vehicle that will run forever - find a GX. Doesn’t seem to matter what year. They just work. Never used the 3rd row seats. No kids anymore.

The surprisingly good handling combined with a Cadillac smooth ride is due to the KDSS. It allows a smooth ride even though it has a sway bar the size of a red bull can. It leaves the sway bar connected when the wheels on one side of the vehicle are compressing at the same time (indicating body roll), but disconnects the sway bar when wheels on the same axle (or just a single wheel) are compressing, indicating a bump. It is purely mechanical- no electronics. Very clever design. Try hitting some speed bumps at 35 mph. It'll be smoother than hitting them at 15 mph. These are actually pretty amazing vehicles, and very capable off-road when you cut the first 5" of plastic off the bottom.

I have lots of friends who bought one of these after experiencing the nightmare of owning unreliable German SUV's - BMW X series, Mercedes ML/GL or Audi Q.
What a difference- not a single problem and some of them are touching 180k miles now.
It might be behind on the gizmos and gadgets side but you have a vehicle that will serve you trouble free for 20 years at least.
Build in Japan with superb quality. It tows really well and impressively off -road capable.

Spot on Scotty! My wife's 2019 GX460 averages around 17 mpg, and rides nice unless you are in a heavy crosswind. The boxy design turns driving into a wrestling match with the steering wheel in crosswinds that are blowing over 20 mph. The second thing that I personally do not like about it is huge monitor that is blindingly bright while backing up at night. Being an analog man in a digital world, I am too dinosaurish to figure out how to dim it...

@@richsweeney1115 I don’t know why I’m even bothering to answer your question but I will. So on the Cadillac. It had problem after problem. When it didn’t develop it’s own problem the mechanics managed to damage things. They busted a windshield when it was brand new, they replaced with a damaged one, had to get it replaced again. Engine not running right , refused to fix. Shudder also never fixed, went to several dealers still no resolution. Doesn’t matter if you have a vehicle under warranty if the dealers where you live suck you are stuck. You go back and forth and your truck is in the shop constantly you have to ask yourself if that aggravation is worth it. There were many other little things going on with it. In this market it was worth selling it and I didn’t take a beating. As you said it’s under warranty and someone wanted to deal with whatever issues it had. I buy new, because I can. If you don’t care for tech in your vehicle that’s a personal choice. I use my Apple car play all the time, every moment I’m in the car and guess what I even have wifi 24-7 in the car , that too is because I can. Why should you care what a person drives or why . Do you also worry about the kind of house a person buys? Does someone need a huge house? Or many acres of land? Or so many clothes or you could just keep going on. You live once and you make your choices based on what you can afford and what your priorities are and you hopefully enjoy the things that you have. I’m thankful and appreciative of the physical things I am able to have. It took me a lifetime to be able to have that ability to buy what I want. If you like buying used enjoy that, it’s fun shopping for a bargain and what you saved go spend on something else. Where I live there are a number of people who go to the John Deere store every other year some even every year and trade their lawn tractor in for a new one. Guess what they loose a ton of money doing that. Then another guy walks in and buys that used tractor and saves. I bought mine 33 years ago and it runs like a Deere! 😂😂😂😂. I am almost 66 and bought a new one. I looked for months for a clean used one but I think everyone has recently discovered these like I did and I couldn't find one in my neck of the woods. Nicest (and most expensive) vehicle I have ever had or will have. It will take me home. Still stinging my frugality though. Funny thing, I've wanted a 4Runner for ever and just wouldn't pull the trigger. Then I find out the about the GX being on the same frame and Lexus luxury for just a little more money. The V8 going away just put the screws to me and I just had to get it.

I have been driving Lexus Gx 470 Gx 460, and LX 570 vehicles since 2003 (first year the GX 470 was issued). In my estimation, the original GX 470's were the best of the GX models, nicest interior, much more comfortable 2nd row seating compared to the Gx 460. I felt it was time to try something else, but because I put a lot of miles on my vehicles (32-35K/year), I fear most of the other SUV will be dead after 3 years, while the Lexus keep on running, just put gas and oil in and they keep on rolling. The Lexus also retain their value much better than do the Domestic and German SUV's. So my conundrum, stick with the Lexus, or try a Land Rover, Mercedes GLS, or BMW X-7 and keep my fingers crossed, because they are no where near as reliable as Lexus.

Plus $250 oil changes, you’d be doing that 6x a year(man you drive a lot of miles!) The GXs are simple, most anyone can work in them. Filters cheap, I know it’s says full syn in the manual but, seriously where these things are located in the far reaches of the earth. I’m pretty sure in a pinch. Conventional is fine too.

I’ve got a 2012 GX460. I’m pretty certain it might be one of the best vehicles ever produced. I’ve got 33” tires, 3” lift and a 12000lb winch hidden behind the bumper. They are an absolute BLAST in the woods, it’ll rock crawl with MTS, I’m thinking I might try and put a snowplow on it! Yeah I know, sounds dumb but actually not. Because they just go and go. I was at a Lexus dealership in my town (just getting a wheel speed sensor cable)and they had a GX in the showroom. That had 488,000miles on it. Holy crap! I remember in the early 90s the Toyota Land Cruiser/Lexus LX 450 had a big straight six in it that was a really outstanding engine. It wasn't a Formula 1 engine but it made a lot of low end torque which is what you need on something that big and heavy. Those engines could go 500,000 or more miles if you just changed the oil regularly. Even at about 30 years old those models still have high resale values.

    • @Wade-lk4yo

Those engines are terrible. Absolute dogs, and they eat head gaskets for breakfast. There's a reason people LS swap them. I'd be surprised if a single one made it to 500,000 miles without at least 2 head gasket replacements. Now the old Ford 300 i6 engines, or the jeep 4.0, those are bulletproof inline 6 engines...
