  • In this video we'll take an in depth look at the differences between the Lexus RX 350 and the Lexus GX 460. I have had several requests to make a video that highlights the differences between the two. The RX350 is the best selling Lexus vehicle and the GX460 has a very loyal fan base. We will take a look at the differences in price, size, features, available amenities, and several uniques things that make up the distinctions between the two.
I hope you enjoy this video and feel free to let me know what you think!

I have a 2013 GX with 120,000 miles. I’ve towed trailers, towed boats, hauled dogs, etc. I’ve spent less on maintenance than I did with the Honda Pilot I had prior. Plus, it still drives like a new car and I’m planning on driving it until it won’t move forward.

Polybius Champion 2011 123k miles. BEST CAR (Truck actually) in my 20 car owning life. Drive hard over NYC streets everyday. Remarkable vehicle. RX is a comfortable car but feels like a Camry (it kinda is) in comparison.

Arenesa Posey, I also purchased a 218 GX 460, I paid a bit more for the Luxury package. Trust me you made the right choice. Now the RX is great because you get 19/26 MPG city/highway. However, you can do so much more with the GX. I towed my dads 5,000 lb boat from Vegas to LA, you can't do that with an RX350. You give up on gas instead of 19/26 mpg you are getting 15/20 but you gain power. You are going from a 3.5LV6 to a 4.6V8.

I just had my first baby a year ago and have been thinking about getting something bigger to haul kids a round and their STUFF. I’m on the fence between the RX and GX. Thanks for this video

  • @Frankieg671

I’d pick the GX, for it’s full time FWD, Off Road, towing features, ride comfort and usable space. It’s still a real SUV. Plus the KDSS suspension system is awesome and only available on the LX and GX. This makes the GX’s ride quality feel super premium. I’d also upgrade to the Luxury Edition that will get you the additional DVD upgraded Mark Levingston sound System , crawl control, and drivers safety package like blind spot monitoring and forward collision braking . For all these reasons GX is still the better choice. The RX is just another nice and premium unibody SUV that is more car like.

Great video, as always. I own an '02 RX300 and have continuously loved it for all 15 years. The new RX style that began in '16, was a little radical for me at first. But it has grown on me over its first two years, and I am now considering an upgrade, especially with the third row coming soon. The only concern I have ever experienced with the RX, which you pointed out, is the turning radius. I've been driving since 1966, and have owned a number of both domestic and foreign vehicles. I've never experienced such a comfortable, well-made, dependable car that comes with a truly "amazing" service department as Lexus.

The HWY gas mileage in the GX460 is underrated. Many owners get 22 MPG running 87 Octane. At $2.5/gallon and driving 16,000 miles/year the GX gas bill is just $300 more than the RX or as I call it, three dine-out nights with the family.

I have a 2013 GX and have owned it since new and I still love it even after six years. It still feels like new even after the abuse of raising 2 young boys. I love the low resolution pixelated information display between the gauges. The interior is aging very well and still feels modern. I love the turning radius and the solid truck like feel. I can see myself keeping this vehicle for a long time. It is way better the the RX loaners I get while servicing. I prefer driving my Tundra platinum though to the GX.

My 07 FJ Cruiser requires premium but I've been using regular unleaded for the past 235,000 kilometers and have never had an issue. The only thing that running unleaded means is I miss out on a few horsepower. You can put regular gas in the GX and it would run fine. You just have wouldn't have the same horsepower and torque figures.

GX is a much better vehicle . I owned a 2015 LX bought new and traded it in since it was too heavy. I got an 2016 LS for every day commute, but knew that I needed a SUV for the winter. I tried a certified 2014 GX460 Luxury version and fell in love with it. It is lighter than LX, but much easier to handle. I tried the RX350 as well but felt that car had a very plastic feeling. RX might be on par in term of horsepower/torque with GX but a V6 just can't beat an NA V8.

I have a very specific request, but I'll bet that there are many others like me who would like to see it. Can you do a comparison video between the new RX 350L (the one with the third row) and a Toyota Highlander Limited? These are both vehicles that I'm interested in that would work well for my family (we are currently in a 2011 Toyota Highlander Limited and will probably be replacing it in the next few years with one of these two vehicles), and I would be very curious to know the similarities and differences between the two. For example: What is exclusive to the Lexus that I can't get on the Toyota? Where does the Toyota do better than the Lexus and vice versa?
    Thanks,
    Tim

GX is on another level altogether in terms of off-road capability, plus has useful towing ability, both attributes from its truck chassis. The truck chassis is just that, a truck, which means it will handle like one, albeit very soft and plush, with a lot of isolation compared to regular trucks. RX is just a high-clearance ES350, very limited ability to do anything in terms of offroad or towing.

Hi Navy vet here, I am so happy I purchased a 2016 Lexus GS 460 Luxury. I got a great deal from my friend $40,000 cash, 25,000 miles, $5,000 below MSRP. My friend, for your next video, you should do a side by side comparison GX vs LX. I am 6'1 and the RX felt a bit cramped, especially in the back. You get 19/26 MPG, you only have to put regular gas, with the RX350. With the GX, you are going to have to put in premium and you will get 15/20MPG. Keep in mind, if you want a hybrid, only the RX350 comes in a hybrid model.
The price is also different, the MSRP for the RX350 is between 43,000-$52,000, for the GX 52,000-$63,000. However, what you get in return is power, 4.6LV8 engine that has a towing capacity of 6500. I towed my dads 5,000 lb boat from Vegas to LA and SD, I had no problems. Keep in mind it was over 115 degrees in the desert. I want to get an SUV that looks like an SUV/Truck. The RX has the more sleeker modern look but I like the traditional SUV boxy look with the GX. The best part is the GX fits in my garage, the dimensions are 189",74'L 74'W. It depends on your needs

The Humor is justified by the amount of Information. Ever since it's inception, I say the GX is the better all around vehicle.

I test drove both and RX has very comfortable seats but it has choppy ride but GX don't have comfortable seats but has better ride.

Thank you for the video, I was thinking about GX but now I know it needs premium... RX is fine

Thank you for this review. I am in this exact quagmire. But since I really don't need to tow anything and I like the newer technologies.

"Sick turning radius" and "24 vs 32 valves" ...very funny. We just bought a GX. Wife kids and I love it! RX is a bit "delicate and soft" looking and feeling.

GX has proven engine 2UZ-FE, trans/center. differential which is reliable for over 200k up to 500k and in some case 1M miles. GX is off road and AWD. RX is street car

Great video. I shared it with a GM of a dealer who intuitively had the interior #'s all wrong. :-) I would add that in the GX, you feel like you are sitting in a comfortble chair, while in the RX, you feel more like you are wrapped in blanket on a recliner. The RX is for beta's, the GX is definitely for alpha's. A classic.

Just getting started at 210,000..... I LOVE the 2004 body. I wish the newer ones had retained more of that body.

The fact that the GX requires premium fuel is a deal breaker for me...In my area the cost between regular and premium can be as much as $.90 per gallon ! Yikes !
