I love looking in people's pantries and refrigerator's! Thanks for letting us take a peek. Yes, I'm a mustard girl as well. I walked to the farmers market this morning and bought some fresh apples, grapes and the best potatoes ever. I LOVE talking to the owners of the farms and they love talking about their farms and everything they sell. It's something I fully support - and it's all organic. Happy Birthday to you and your husband!

@Lee Angelo , chuckling 😉....I have a rescue dog and while her daily dog food isn’t vegitarian, you should see her come running when I get out the romaine, to say nothing of the cucumbers, celery, tomatoes, carrots and the list goes on! Crazy how much she LOVES vegies ....and when I go out to the garden she beats me to both the peas and green beans if I’m not careful! And did I mention huckleberries??? Wow! She has a great nose for finding berries and she picks them herself even!!! I took several videos of her picking with me, what a hoot!

Thank you, even though I haven’t started eating well yet. We have a whole other family living (that I also cook dinner for) with us due to a house fire. As soon as they are back home I am starting this way of eating. I feel horrible and need to stop taking care of everyone else and take the time to take care of myself, it’s a must. I’ve been watching your videos so I will be ready. Thanks again 🙏

You should try buying your dried beans, lentils etc at the bulk food store. They are a lot cheaper than buying them in small packages. Also I like to keep the essentials like dried beans ahead for about 2 to 3 months supply in case a disaster emergency happens, then there will be basic staple food to get through it.

The other kind of dates, besides medjool.. is deglet noor. :) Also, re the nutritional yeast. Fortified is the superior kind. Vegans don't have a source for vitamin B which we need. So if you don't use the fortified nutritional yeast, your family will need a vitamin B supplement. It isn't an issue until someone has been vegan for a couple years, because our bodies can store it, but since you've been one for three years.. I thought I'd mention this

    • @dawnseely1013
      @dawnseely1013 5 лет назад +1

Just did a little more digging on the "fortified" version. The folic acid is not superior but has been found to cause disease. Fortified is not always a good thing.

A healthy trick I do, because it sounds like me and you might be kindred hummus spirits 😆 is I ferment big mason jars of the already pealed garlic from Costco. And I make garlic, lime and cilantro hummus and I use the fermented garlic in the hummus. So it's basically like having probiotic hummus 😊

  • @BethGrantDeRoos

I know this video was made back in 2017. Wanted to suggest using washable cloth bags and buy grains, rice, nuts, seeds, dried mushrooms in bulk and store in glass Mason jars. We also use washable cotton cloth bags when buying fresh fruits and vegetables at the store or farmers markets.
If possible invest in an Excalibur food dehydrator or save up for a small Harvest Right freeze dryer. We store ALL ground flour in the freezer since once ground it the oils can go rancid.
We also avoid plastic as much as possible, choosing instead to use all glass containers and as needed glass with a silicon cover.
Since we grow a garden I also learned to pressure can vegetables, vegetable broths, no sugar fruits since I dislike store bought canned foods. Coconut milk I buy by the case which saves us money at Costco. We do go over to Napa to buy heirloom beans from Rancho Gordo that we don't grow. LOVE their beans!

I like your shows very much. I’m very interested in a vegan lifestyle, but I’ve found it difficult to get stated. Then I happened on your show. Your very informative, with a good, organized approach on how to actually do it. I’ve done the shopping, and made a few meals. I can see how doable it is now. I’m not so overwhelmed. So, thank you! I do have a concern though. You are eating mushrooms, which I love, and your saying they help prevent breast cancer. My concern is, your also eating soy, tofu and Tempe, which sets you up for breast cancer. The first report I read on this issue was back in the 90s from studies done through Northwestern University, and Harvard Medical. I read about these studies in Prevention Magazine. Since then, there has been more and more information supporting this. I was glad to hear your getting away from soy milk. Once again, I’m getting so much out of your shows, and your style of teaching.

Thanks for sharing. In my world, I have to put things like those bags of rice, flours and nutri-yeast etc into plastic stacking storage bins on my shelves to protect them from pantry moths and other vermin that would love to nest in them and know how to get there, even if the packs are unopened and especially if they're opened. It works like magic :)

I've lived in the Midwest for many years now but the only mustard I eat is Weber's horseradish mustard from Buffalo, NY -- it's so good!

Good tour, very helpful with ideas on what to have on hand. I heard also that fenugreek seeds in the container helps veggies to last longer.

Hi Jill, your videos remain amazing, I use them to share with new vegans. I learned about a year ago that cauliflower leaves are so delcious and nutritious, hope you are enjoying them already or try them when you can! I have been discarding them all these years because I didn't know they were edible all along.

I wish you were my mom. I'd love to eat at your house all the time. You eat everything I eat but I'm getting tired of cooking every meal since I never eat out anymore. So happy for your family. You're a great role model for unhealthy America. If they ever wake up and snap out of the corporate epidemic they're being manipulated by, they might figure out this is a much better diet regimen. The dopes will say, "I eat crap because IT TASTES GOOD". Hahahaha. Good luck with that. We know better. Good food is delicious and nutritious. Just takes more discipline and effort, which lazy people refuse to exhibit.

For crunchy corn chips just take corn tortillas and bake them.

As Kenji Lopez Alt says, lite coconut milk is a waste of money because it’s just regular coconut milk with water added.
