    I made the carrot dogs tonight! My mom loved them and so did my dad! It's amazing how you can't even taste the carrot flavor, the marinade they soak in really gives them that meaty hot dog flavor!

    So awesome that you use reusable big grocery bags! I recommend also checking out some reusable produce bags on Amazon too, so you can get rid of the plastic bags entirely :)

    • @sonnomdeplume
      @sonnomdeplume 7 лет назад +4

      For real! All that plastic is a killer. Also, shopping at the farmers' market is usually cheaper.

    • @suelacey3253

      Hi Kristina. Thanks for the advice of where you can get re-usable produce bags from..I live in the UK. Some places have paper bags here, do the shops or supermarkets provide paper bags where you are ( although reusable seems the best)

    • @KristinaLynnx
      @KristinaLynnx 7 лет назад +4

      Sometimes, but not always. Plastic is standard in almost all places, but some natural food stores will have paper.

    • @suelacey3253
      @suelacey3253 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your reply Kristina. I think as the issue of plastic is growing, things will change. Perhaps not as quickly as you or I would wish. However as long as it starts to turn in the right direction, it's a great start.

    I absolutely LOVE your channel. So many vegan channels pay absolutely no attention to sugar, salt, or oil consumption. I have just adopted a plant based diet. I had adopted a plant based diet for about eight months. As a diabetic with the very, very, high carb intake and sugar intake (albeit natural), my sugar was outrageous. My doctor advised me against a plant based diet because of this. I also noticed comments from vegans about how much weight they have gained. I now eat a plant based diet, moderately carb, low oil and heavy on the veg. It is very discouraging to have almost all vegan channels preach no measuring of food (bread, corn, peas, lentils) when clearly to eat as much as you want of heavy carb items, nuts and oil will skyrocket carb sensitive people as well as weight gain with oil and nuts. Thank you.

      Dr. Neal Barnard has a great book on diabetes, I believe Dr. Fuhrman has one as well although I haven't read his. I told a diabetic friend of mine about Dr. Barnard's book. He started following it, lowered his blood glucose levels and lost weight.

    Thanks, this is very helpful. I am preparing to go WFPB next week. Already got a week's menu and groceries and I will get my produce from the market in a couple of days.
    I chose to finish up what I had in the house, in stead of throwing it in the bin. But I regret that decision, my fibromyalgia and ibs are suffering from it. I will try to give away the rest of my frozen chicken. Looking forward to the change and what it might do for my body.

    You talked about not having too much oil as in the chips. When you mentioned it was canola, I was horrified. Canola os an industrial oil which is used in most margarines. I have had 2 friends whose eye specialists have told them that their macula degeneration is directly as a result of years of margarine use with canola oil. Pico from Queensland Australia

    We have a frys which is a sister company of Kroger’s! And your right it’s dirt cheap when the sales are on and I stock up. I always thought organic and vegan was expensive but recently I’m switching to vegan so I’m still learning. I learned that Kroger has vegan and organic foods for dirt cheap when it’s on sale.

    I buy both dry and canned organic beans, canned usually goes on sale for $1.20 and that is cheap especially in Hawaii. Now I can make batches of chili or beans and brown rice :) Love your channel. Aloha! BTW $230 a week for a family is cost effective better than fast food, junk foods, eating out(loads of sodium, sugar and worst yet, oils). Better than for paying medical expenses. Aloha!

    I love 7th generation dish detergent. I live in the south east too but we dont have a krogers or lowes food here. Aldis is actually a growing organic food market if you have one and its dirt cheap. Also those simply organic cans are probably the best I've seen low sodium and the spicy black beans are amazing if you want some spanish tasting beans straight out the can.

      We have an Aldi's where i am at. I have been shopping there for about 20 years. Am so happy to see so many more organic and whole food products being put out. And it is so much more affordable for me than going to Whole Foods, Sprouts or other commercial store chains. I only go to Whole Foods for specific items or if there is a really good sale on things. When I was there last i made a haul of unsalted nuts to make dips, green and red lentils, quinoa and brown rice mixes, etc. I hope aldi's keeps up the organic and whole foods based items.

    I recommend looking for fair trade bananas! If you can’t find them, buy organic any brand but Chiquita. They have actually paid people to beat their workers into submission after protesting for working conditions and pay. If we are helping animals and the environment, we should also be thinking of the people providing our food

    looking at the before and after pics of yourself, clearly YOU SAVED YOURSELF. I'm just under three months into veganism and have lost over 20 pounds. I was already doing home fitness when I went vegan, and my energy levels have not dropped one bit. the one tragedy in this whole business is the quasi universal conviction that meat is absolutely indispensable, not mentioning what animal husbandry on a corporate scale is doing to the planet...

    Great video. My budget is close to $50-$60 bi weekly for 2 people. I definitely take advantage of discounted produce to freeze for later use. Sadly, I don't have a Kroger close enough. Aldi is one of my main grocery stores. Our local Aldi is in the process of expanding. I hear it will be very similar to 360 Whole Foods. Just saying here that buying organic is not always the best option.
    Organic means using waste from animals factories and farms, so it is questionable if it's vegan. It also doesn't mean it is free of pesticides.

There's 3 in my family. 1 really won't eat the diet and the other might occasionally, but he likes his meat too much. I am trying to keep certain foods out of the house, but it is hard. If you don't have oil in the house how would you do stir fry? Trying to learn all I can.

      That is difficult but you are doing the right thing 👍
      It is possible to stir fry without oil. I have a video on it

    Jill, what is the brand name of the corn tortillas you bought and do you have a video to show how to make the tortilla chips?

    • @wholefoodplantbasedcookingshow
      @wholefoodplantbasedcookingshow  7 лет назад +1

      They are Goya and I do have a video that shows how we make them although we sprinkle a spice mix on them in that video. You can just spritz with Braggs liquid amino acids, or lime juice and then sprinkle a little bit of nutritional yeast on them for flavor. You can also just leave them plain.

    Great ideas! I wish there was a cookbook that gave ideas for cooking for smaller households, like cooking for one. Difficult to keep items fresh when ingredients like in salad dressing recipes don't keep for long. Perhaps when I attempt this way of eating and living I'll write one.

    Would you think about ditching all those plastic bags for your produce? :) most fruits/veg can be carried and weighed without bags, and for the other smaller items you can carry reusable produce bags along with your reusable carry bags to the supermarket!

    • @jsclar7037
      @jsclar7037 7 лет назад +5

      How do you know she didn't already reuse the plastic produce bags. Sometimes people's militancy for every issue forces us to lose sight and positivity of the bigger message.

    • @KristinaLynnx
      @KristinaLynnx 7 лет назад +1

      Just a heads up you can use reusable produce bags for weighing/pricing as well!

      I don't think Emma's comment was militancy. Plastic has become a huge problem. I think she politely asked a question, and gave an alternative. I can't see that this forces anyone to loose sight and positivity of her message

    Do you grow any of your own vegetables,fruit or herbs.Have you made your own salsa or passata instead of buying cans and bottles of them

      Yes, I grow kale, collard greens, beets, green beans, lettuces and some herbs like basil, thyme, sage and rosemary. I am just working on a salsa recipe right now =)

      I like the way you present your show. it is easy to follow. In one of your cooking shows you said that you live in the south east, where?
      I saw the grocery haul ( 4 in family) and the cost, I thought it was a little high. Those are the prices that I usually spend when I shop at Whole Foods. The good thing that is happening now in my east coast grocery stores they are all in competition with W.F. therefore I can buy fresh organic produce at lower prices. thank you for sharing your shopping with us. I have you on notification when you upload a video, looking forward to them

    You should check out Costco for canned beans. They've got cases of 8, organic, for 6-7$ a case. They don't have as much variety, black beans (my favorite), pinto, and red kidney beans.

    Apart from the information in this vid, I appreciate the un-American way it is presented. Don't get me wrong, I love Americans...but usually American videos are presented in a car-sales-person, kind of way, so both thumbs up!

    Great info I'm starting the diet, the canned foods don't they have preservatives, which are really bad.

      You have to be selective with canned foods. Read the labels. There are brands that only use salt as a preservative. Some don’t even use salt.
