Daimajin series proves that even a "rushed" project can be high quality.
As long as everyone is hardworking, and knows what they want to get done. There are a few other things, but I can’t think of what they are right now.
It`s quite miraculous that three high quality Tokusatu movies were produced in such a short period.
Or maybe the way we judge a product should not involve such silly things as time. Great things don’t need to take ten years to make. And vice versa.
The Daimajin trilogy really was quite an ambitious project. Getting all three films out within the same year AND having them all be of such high quality must've been quite a feat, and I find myself respecting Daiei all the more for it. Now if only they carried some of that quality into some of their late-Showa-era Gamera films, because if that had happened I guarantee that Daimajin Strikes Again would not be the only masterpiece worth this kind of praise.
Since everyone seems to be requesting film reviews in the rest of the comments section, I might as well submit mine: Gorath.
Gamera vs. Daimajin when?
2:35 "I used to be an adventurer like you...”
Daiei Film is probably best remembered by Western audiences for the Zatoichi series, 25 period movies released over 11 years (with a two-year break) focusing on a blind yakuza gambler and swordsman during the late Edo era. Those movies were high-quality productions that, at its height, saw 3 movies released a year, all featuring the same actor as the star. Those kinds of episodic films were the studio's wheelhouse, and the Daimajin series is pretty much the same kind of movie, with a 20-odd minute special effects climax.
Godzilla may have my heart...but I think there are many kaiju films better than most of Godzilla's films. This trilogy being some of them.
The Heisei Gamera being three more.
1966 Daiei: Let's rush out four of our best films in one single year
Kadokawa Now: Please help us fund our rat movie :'(
So true, lol
I personally preferred Return of Daimajin over this one, but I still enjoyed this one a lot. In my opinion the Daimajin films are some of the best Tokusatsu films out there, especially the original.
imagine if some sort of animated Gamera series was made, and Daimajin appeared in it getting his own story ark and perhaps even becoming Gameras ally (because he doesn't have any other ally monsters)
I love this idea !
I was a 10 years old Japanese primary school pupil when I watched "Daimajin" at a movie theater in my hometown with my deceased grandmother and a younger brother. Along with "Daimajin", "Gamera Vs Barugon" was also released at the same time. It was one of the most exciting moments in my life.
Y'know I'm quite surprised that Daiei didn't follow the example of the Godzilla films by including previous monsters in their current films. I would have loved to have seen Gamera team up with the Daimajin.
Well good news, the Gamera Animated thing is happening. Whether or not Daimajin is gonna show up is unknown though
I've been loving the more obscure reviews you've been doing recently, I'm always curious what the next one will be
Apparently prior to his death Ishiro Honda was planning to direct a Daimajin reboot.
He should have gotten Akira Kurosawa to team up with him
Imagine what Akira Kurosawa's Godzilla movie would have been like?
This was a great trilogy , and I’m actually glad they left it as such. Sometimes a whole franchise is ruined by trying to carry it too far. This series of reviews was excellent as well! I’ll be doing a “Daimajin” movie marathon at home this fall ...!
Yeah, it would have been bad if they've continued milking it without cease, but I still think a modern reboot would be cool.
ArcaneAzmadi- Yes, I would also be interested in a modern day Reboot!
I think Daimajin needs to battle another god.
Alternate title, Daimajin strikes Again, Agian.
and
Daimajin strikes: Yet again.
Third time? Daimajin Strikes Out (it never appeared again after all)
Daimajin: Never Stop Striking
I litterly just finished watching this movie yesterday and it is my favorite out of the 3.
Loved the Dimajin trilogy review. Thank you.
I'll give my usual suggestion for future video now ;)
Gorgo and Gappa. Follow those 2 reviews with a video comparing them since they are practically the same plot.
Really enjoyed your Daimajin trilogy reviews @upfromthedepths Thank you :)
Agree with you, a better sequel than The Return. Loved the children adventure spin on it with some surprisingly bleak moments. Moreover, Daimajin uses his sword this time!
Wonder why they haven’t rebooted the series yet? I think Daimajin got potential for a present day interpretation in multiple angles...with political allegory, socioeconomic class system or urbanization themes or they can simply put it in Gamera universe, battling Mechas!
There was a TV show though but with a different approach.
What if they set Daimajin in a post-apocalyptic world?
See that would be an great idea to have a new series of films which are incorporated in the Gamera universe, it would make an interesting parallel to the Godzilla franchise because it's proven that magic and science can exist within the same universe. Same case for Gamera and Daimajin.
Daimajin awakens ......Daimajin Stikes back......Return of the Daimajin!
Indeed.
Perhaps Daimajin should get the Heisei Gamera treatment and three new period movies that interconnect?
That would be fantastic and Jidaigeki is still fairly popular these days (think of the Samurai movies that are being made even now), so Daimajin could certainly be resurrected. It would be cool though if Daiei's creations had their own cinematic universe featuring their monsters, so like if you had a Gamera movie you could set the next one up for Daimajin.
I am kind of surprised this has never gotten a modern reboot, like when Takeshi Kitano did his reboot of Zatoichi. It could be so awesome.
When I was really young I saw this movie.. it's still one of the best movie in my mind.
Can you look at Gorgo🌊🐉
Gorgo is a great choice. I'd love to see that next.
I'd love to see either cloverfield or a bunch of ray harryhausen monsters. Maybe the Sinbad series for ray.
Can you look at It Came From Beneath The Sea🐙
A series on the Harryhausen monster movies would be very welcome. Especially as they helped inspire things like Godzilla.
@@AdrianParkinsonFilms I'd be down for that
@@thekungfukid1990 hell I have been waiting on "The Beast from 20,000 phantoms".
Strikes Again. Sweet.
Great Review.
4 stars = Good.
He's BAAAAACK!!!
I found the movie to be somewhat odd in that this is obviously a more child-oriented movie, but, at the same time, has a child's tragic death in it.
These Diainmajin movies look
dead cool and very well made,
I will check them out on dvd.
Paul Bacchus esq
Can you look at The Giant Behemoth⚡🐉
We should’ve got Gamara vs Daimajin Back in the day or maybe if some company picks up the studio rights to both of them in Hollywood
Wow look at how many subs you have gained!!!
He's drawing in loads of new people, with not only the Monsterverse causing people to find his Godzilla reviews but also fans of other series finding his channel through the recent expanse of films he's been covering, with a prime example being fans of the Daimajin trilogy. It's definitely a welcome change.
Interesting; I saw these films on TV back in the '70s as a kid, and, my rating of them was exactly like yours. The first was the best, the third was a true sequel, and the middle one was just a retread, although with a great rampage at the end.
I reckon that there should be another one where Daimajin fights an evil version of himself.
Mecha-Daimajin? Sorry to burst your bubble, but I don't think that's exactly what they were going for with this trilogy.
@@scado5679 I meant that the enemy that is attacking the people that Daimajin protects have their own Daimajin. Which they are using as an ultimate weapon.
@@RandomVideos66 Yep, it would be awesome as this will finally provide some hard and challenge time for Daimajin after seeing that he defeated and killed the previous warlords without any of hard challenges or struggles for him at all. Also, this is how it would work:
Another evil warlord and his soldiers take over another innocent village and turned the innocent village to a labor camp as well punishing the village often without any good reasons, however. Several villagers managed to escape their way out of here and then decided to call Daimajin for help, but they didn't know that this evil warlord actually acknowledged Daimajin as well the warlord also has his own "evil" Daimajin which was also his ultimate weapon as well which he would unleashes it had if Daimajin came to the evil warlord's 'labor camp' village. Not only that, the warlord also kept his own "evil" Daimajin as a huge secret that nobody knows but him and his soldiers.
You're reviewing so many Kaiju movies it would help me if you could do a top 5 or so for movies to watch.
Best/most impacted films on the genre
Thanks for the post I havent seen this movie since 1972 it was a Friday night monster channel here in Ohio i didnt know there was more than one .
The best thing about this movie is that Daimajin ACTUALLY uses his god damn sword(don’t ask why it took him 3 movies to actually use it)
I like this one more than 2 simply because they use cannons in the fight.
大魔神逆襲ですね!子供達が健気で可愛いかったですねぇ!
0:00 aww no! Who made Mr-Grumpy-Statue mad now?
Watching Gorgo on Amazon prime. A British version of Godzilla. I'm loving it. You should review this next.
大魔神🤠‼️日本の特撮名作ぢゃぁ〜
I like the first movie a tad more than this one, but the way I see it, 2nd place ain’t bad.
英語で有り難うございました。大魔人でも、出てこないかなあ❗
If you watch this on the Mill Creek Blu-Ray, FOR GODZILLA’S SAKE, AVOID THE DUB!
What's up with it, if you don't mind me asking? I watched the dubs for the first two and they were really well done for their time imo.
Would you review "Yongary" in the near future?
You should review Rampage (2018)
Have you reviewed Latitude Zero yet?
5:37 Thought for sure you were gonna mention 2010’s Daimajin Kanon here 🤔
What if the Daimajin is actually an alien stranded in Earth just waiting for help?. And in the meantime he develops a fond of humans but he is just lonely.
Daiei should make Gamera Daimajin Crossover they could great ally fighting the gyaos...
Shame it never got a reboot like Gamera
One question, is the Daimajin Trilogy free on RUclips?
Yes. They are available on RUclips, under this titles:
Majin, the Monster of Terror (with hard coded English subtitle),
Return of Giant Majin (with English dub), and
Daimajin 3: Majin Strikes Again (with hard coded English subtitle)
Seems like a Japanese version of Stand By Me
Hey do you think you could cover the Daimajin Kanon 2010 series, I can’t find any videos related to it
I am the first one on here can you look at the Cartoon Network original movie Firebreather it has Giant monsters in it👹🔥🐉
I used to love that movie as a kid! It probably hasn't aged well, but it was fun.
I totally agree, it's so underrated 👍🏾
He doesnt review animated movies! And if he does he problably wont do this one!!!
KaijufanAllen073 He reviewed three animated Godzilla movies.
@@clipsclipsandmoreclips3384 I still dont think he gonna review this movie
Can you review The Last Dinosaur?
Why didn’t I get the notification?
Can you also review Evangelion, the series and the movies? I need some help processing it lol
Please review gappa the triphibian monster
Is Daimajin Kanon on the docket?
Hey do yongory horror from the deep
Igor can I see this movie in all 3 parts
Did Daiei ever give a reason Daimajin never had more films made?
They were going to make another film in the 2000s, but when Gamera the Brave underperformed they scrapped it.
@@UpFromTheDepths88 that really sucks, imagine Daimajin with the same sort of special effects work as GTB had. It would've been legendary.
There was the 2010 TV series Daimajin Kanon, but... meh 😐 The modern day setting took away a large chunk of the originals’ charm, IMHO 🤔
When you have time you should watch and review the original Ultraman series!!
Not the most high quality kaiju special effects, but it’s undoubtedly one of the most influential series in Japanese tokusatsu, and in my opinion Ultraman is one of the greats alongside Kong, Godzilla, Mothra, and Gamera.
I fully agree. Although it's not exactly a movie series like the ones usually reviewed on this channel, Ultraman is at its core a show about a giant humanoid fighting giant monsters, which isn't too far off the mark for this channel.
Plus I'm finding myself obsessed with Ultraman at the moment.
That would be pretty cool, but I think Ultra-Q would be even better, since it more closely resembled a traditional kaiju film 😁
2:41 My boi tasting da feat
Sorry, I'll stop
Damajin series is The Last Samurai of kaiju movies.
So all four of the children are boys? I always thought Daisaku (sorry if I got the spelling wrong) was a girl....
Definitely my least favorite but still a pretty good entry in the trilogy!
