- Taking a look this time at my favourite non-Toho kaiju... That hybrid of tokusatsu effects film and jidaigeki historical dramas, the great Daimajin!

I remember watching Daimajin on channel 2 CBS television 📺 back in 1974 or 1975 When the camera pans around Daimajin standing in the water and the teardrop from the lady in water.
When I was 8 I used to stay up on the weekend and loved Godzilla movies . One night this came on and I could not sleep
And had nightmares for days after. 50 years later this popped up on my YT feed. I was struck with fear. Big impact .
Is it bad of me to say that was awesome? 😆
That scene of Majin impaling the warlord with the giant iron spike creeped me out as a kid.
Daimajin was Daiei's Version of the Golem.
When Daimaijin wakes up and rampages the air goes out of the room. It feels like true divine punishment is unfolding. The score of this film is so good even by Akira Ifukube high standards
Could you imagine if the Gamera films had the same production values as the DaiMajin trilogy?
Daimajin is up there with some of the best Kaiju ever
I haven’t heard of the Japanese Godzilla theme attraction. Little kid me would’ve exploded hearing that.
I discovered the Daimajin films about ten years ago and immediately fell in love with them. For all the reasons you said, these movies are unique among kaiju cinema (the Magic Serpent/ Kairyu Daikessen 1966 being the only other one like it that I can think of). The Dark Horse comic GODZILLA COLOR SPECIAL from 1992 may be the closest we ever get to seeing Godzilla Vs Daimajin. Anyway, Daimajin doesn't get enough praise. I need to track down The Great Yokai War: Guardians as I've never seen it! I wonder if it's out on blu-ray?
I remember that comic! And I'll have to look up that movie!
Great Yokai War 1 is in the Yokai Monsters box set, but I don't know about GYW2.
1:37 - I see that and my first thought is, "huh, I haven't watched Tora-san in a while."
WHy haven't I ever heard of this giant? I might've known about him if he was in a movie called Godzilla v Daimajin!
Well now you know!
definitely subbed because of this
Thank you!
Own the trilogy daimajin.
Great stuff as always. I love these movies. They actually inspired me to write my first Amazon review. I got the Mill Creek Blu-ray set years ago on a blind buy. Of course I upgraded to the Arrow set when it came out as well. I like the Yokai movies too. Thanks for the cool info.
I didn't know that this was a trilogy. Have seen the one he melts into the ocean, but long time ago. You just gave me more homework to find this trilogy. Not even done with the Edmund Burke book yet.
More homework!
Have you ever seen the Korean film Pulgasari ? It has some similarities to Daimajin.
I have not! I'll have to give it a look!
