    It's weird to think how much older they seemed at that time, and how much younger they seem by today's standard. Betty White was the oldest of the group and she was only 63 here. She had a career for 35 more years, who would have guessed? Rue sadly didn't make it to 84, but she was still entertaining up until she died as well.

      @@-Ricky_Spanish- the point I’m making is 64 is still old biologically and by society’s standards. Old doesn’t have to equal negative connotations. Old does not mean sick and deathly- it just means advance in age. Old is just a number and can mean fit and healthy. So I don’t know why you’re trying to push the narrative that 64 is youth when illogically it isn’t!

      In the early years it was a very happy experience for all of them. However, as the show went on, Bea grew less and less happy. She was the last to win an Emmy and Betty was the first, which Bea didn't like. In addition, Betty's upbeat demeanor and joking around with the audience between takes got under Bea's skin.

    • @tqueen7131
      @tqueen7131 2 месяца назад +6

      @joshuaseils2567 actually Betty used to make fun of Estelle in front of a live studio audience during her onset of dementia when she would write lines on her hand. The other women did not like this and her attitude. This is in The Directors book. You are citing Betty's reasons leaving out everyone else's and Bea never spoke ill of her in public. They were two strong willed people and they were almost polar opposites in a lot of ways (they had plenty in common as well but the differences lead to some tension). Two people like that working together for years are bound to have some issues. All four ladies were great friends, just some pairings got along better than others. They didn’t hate each other or have any fights (until near the end of the show they had some very big differences and their largest disagreement over how the show was going as well as the treatment of Estelle as she was losing her memory). I think in the end though they all truly cared about each other.

      This was early on in the series and the tension built up over the years. Their acting methods were extremely different. Bea was very methodical and calculated as she had more theatre background. It was strictly serious work for her while performing. Betty White had been on TV sitcoms for more years and with less theatre. She was very light and spontaneous. She could often take breaks and joke with the studio audience. This annoyed Bea to no end because it wasn’t her style at all.
