I like how this episode gave context as to why Endeavor did some of the things he did in the past but didn’t try to excuse his actions and made it clear that they were still wrong
Yeah, this was called “The wrong way to put out a fire” for a reason. It’s honestly a perfect way of looking at what Endeavor did to Touya. Endeavor sparked the fire, and instead of giving it calm and gentle water or something to put it out, he basically poured gasoline and paint thinner on it, and then proceeded to ignore the fire and let it build, not realizing that he was not only the root of the problem but also the main one making it worse. And by the time he did realize it, it’s all just too little too late.
Yeah you are right but it's never actually too late for change I still believe in him I agree that it was really wrong of doing what he did to his family but in the end he realized that it was wrong and tries to change P.S. Look at my name
@@Touya-Dabi True. I do believe that he feels genuinely guilty for what he did. Still though, it’s probably gonna take a lifetime’s worth of atonement before I look at him much differently.
7:37 with touya saying the women in his family are useless he’s more so referring to the fact that they don’t understand where he’s coming from. He tried to talk to fuyumi and his mom, but pretty much got the same response “do something else”. They weren’t helping with his problem he had with his father, so he felt like natsuo was the only one he could turn to.
Exactly. Thank you. I've seen people calling this *child* a misogynist while completely ignoring the rest of the sentence: «You know that women *In This House/In This Family* are useless» - clarification is there for a reason after all
and at the same time, even he saw women as lesser, its literally nedeavour s fault lmao, the gu use his wife as baby machine and little boy seeing his mother is treated as that way and seeing it as natural because he idolize his father so it would still makes sense why he would think this way.
@@danondivanov8316 Even if the child is a misogynist, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary that he learned those things based on how his dad treats his mom, he's too young to solely balm it on him alone.
2:39-2:54 That's easily the most accurate summary for this episode. Endeavor clearly Fd up. Mom admitted she Fd up. The other sibs realize how they Fd up. And Shoto had to deal with all that AND NOW Dabi.
Well Enji is undeniable the root of the problems & drama of the Todoroki family I appreciate that the rest of the Family are willing to acknowledge that they're not totally blameless either they all could've done things differently they all could've done better (Except Shoto he did nothing wrong).
I knew this episode was going to be sad, but I think (9:17) this scene was particularly hard to watch. And baby Shoto trying to protect his mom, oh my god 😭 just this whole episode is so heartbreaking
One thing I really liked was through Hawks, we see the results of the two sides of Endeavor's life. As a father he failed Toya who fell into darkness, but as a Hero he saved Hawks without even meeting him, by inspiring him to be a hero like him.
This is an incredibly complex episode with lots of nuanced emotions. I was CONSIDERING going through this whole thing point by point and cover the in depth nuance, but it got SO long even I realized, “No one will read this.” And I scrapped it. XD there goes an hour of writing. So I’ll just say the bare bones. This STARTED as a quirk marriage, this STARTED as a passion project to surpass All-Might. But became a large scale effort to prevent the golden child Touya Todoroki from endlessly pursuing a route in life that would most certainly lead to his own death. Each effort got blunter and blunter making another nail in his coffin instead of a deterrent and accidentally creating a sociopathic murderer hell bent on destroying what is now a somehow more functional family now than ever before. Rei hated Endeavor, but has come to realize she never took it on herself to understand him. (And won’t give him leeway.) Her mere presence from a situation she DID have the power to walk away from and take the kids with her is the sign that she DOES still love Endeavor. And I see that flower she brings in as a “Let’s start over.” Not for the kids, but for her and Enji. Endeavor has INCREDIBLY weak empathy making NONE of his methods work correctly because he didn’t use them with enough care. Even though each choice DOES actually have logic behind it. The ONLY thing that you can tell how much he empathized with was the absolute terror of Touya’s quirk recoil. He knew EXACTLY how much it hurt him because he considers his OWN recoil the exact reason he’s not Number 1. And as All-Might got better, it showed the gap for Endeavor, but also how hard Touya was pushing himself. He was struggling in vein to stop this, but didn’t have the emotional capability to do it. He also has among the WORST emotional traits. The trait of showing sorrow and fear as anger. He is DESPERATE to not show vulnerability. And I think that is EXACTLY why Rei knows he IS trying. Because it’s a mask. And he can’t maintain it forever. This crash is years too late for the kids to see. But considering what kind of man Endeavor is, it also shouldn’t be surprising it took til THIS happened. There isn’t a single family member that doesn’t feel guilt of the events. But there also isn’t a single one that doesn’t desperately want to fix things. Natsuo is the MOST resentful of his dad, but even that doesn’t spell to me he will cut him off once Touya is stopped. The chances of Touya Todoroki having the ultimate irony of being ANOTHER half cold-half hot wielder is TERRIFYINGLY high he could have grown to in his adulthood. I have been curious about how he cried when he got excited. And that may have been melted ice for all we know. His hair STRAIGHT UP matches Shoto for a year or so. Natsuo lost his red hair, and Fuyumi stayed the same. Touya’s went through a LARGE transition. And while Shoto’s hair has no connection to his quirk, (DNA is not constrained to one side of your body. If he has both, it doesn’t mean it HAS to stay on one side.) that doesn’t mean that it’s exactly the same for the other siblings. But it would be the ULTIMATE irony and nothing would hurt the Todoroki’s more that he ACTUALLY transforms his quirk more. (This is an unproven theory, but I do VERY much so believe in it.) And the final thing regarding the Todoroki’s. It’s important to say only a victim can forgive an aggressor. Whether we feel it’s deserved or not is irrelevant. And it seems the Todoroki’s are inching closer to that point, even if Dabi obviously isn’t. So it’s worth pointing that reality out. And exploring why they feel he COULD earn it if he tries harder to be communicative and understanding. But if there’s one thing above all I love, it is the mere MENTION of the term One For All blows the lid of more than a CENTURY of hiding from AFO, the government, the public, and all other villains. The MOMENT Shigaraki says where is OFA, Endeavor asked what it was. And Deku IMMEDIATELY ran from the evacuation site and Shigaraki went after him INSTANTLY. It wasn’t the extra quirks that gave him away, it wasn’t Bakugo revealing anything, it wasn’t Deku being registered quirkless in elementary school and middle school. It was JUST the fact that AFO found out Izuku Midoriya was the 9th wielder ALL THE WAY back in season 3. He used Search and shouted at All-Might. The worst case scenario had ALREADY been laid bare 3 seasons ago. It’s a MIRACLE it lasted this long. But the unknown connection to All-Might, AFO’s grudge with the man. Deku being hunted. And just…there’s no more hiding it. Thank GOD only the Todoroki’s have become aware with the top 3 heroes. Everyone else just believes it’s a connection with AFO. Which it is INTEGRALLY. But Deku becoming the new Symbol of Peace and All-Might’s successor HAS to be prevented from being FULLY leaked because then Deku gets blamed for the war itself. Because ALL OF THIS. Was for the sole purpose of hunting him down to kickstart the Dark Age AFO created before the era of the 4th holder. It breaks my heart seeing Bakugo in a state where he likely would have barged into Deku’s hospital room and he would have screamed at a comatose Deku. (Such loving friends willing to do anything for each other right guys? I know he’s made strides, but that is PURELY Bakugo development. Not their relationship. I have to say it again.) But Uraraka and Iida would ABSOLUTELY be in the hospital room waiting for Deku to wake up if All-Might hadn’t asked for the room to himself so he can try and sense the OFA conversation. (Not at ALL a signal this man might just still have the prime power. It’s ANOTHER signal I can’t ignore.) It would make it SO much harder to see because the two of them care for Deku’s well being more than any other student. And last but not least, get me a poster of Iida holding his chest. Because I am throwing that on the Iida chop gold medal pile. What the hell is he doing? I don’t know but I love it.
The drama was so good like finally all the tea on this family was so juicy. So hard seeing endeavor in those flashbacks like oof him before his character development was so hard to watch again. This episode still didn’t explain how exactly Toya escaped and survived so I’m curious to see that. Overall a fantastic episode
@@omegashark1837 well thank you and I’ll be looking forward to seeing that. Cause they said a piece of his jaw was found and he’s pretty mutilated as it is and wasn’t able to control his power so it’s like I want to know what or who got him out.
The thing that always gets me about this backstory is how it takes a classical tragedy angle. Everything WAS working for a while, and a lot of things that went so wrong really wasn't even Enji's fault, for instance it was Rei that encourages him to have more kids. But how he responded to things just made things go from bad to worse to horrible. Touya had a happy childhood at first, and a lot of his jealousy ultimately came from Rei wanting more family (and it was Rei that convinced him to have more kids, at least in the manga it's outright said Enji was fine with just the 1) and not really being able to understand him, but that then led Enji to making the exact wrong choice again and again and again. One of the best scenes for that in my mind is when Touya attacked baby Todoroki. Touya felt so pressured he tried to kill his younger brother, probably his mother as well, but we can see how that was everyone fault. It was Rei that wanted another kid, and Rei that couldn't understand Touya, and it was Touya that snapped, but it was Enji that put the pressure onto Touya, first to be strong and then to not be, and it was Enji that reacted by going full controlling and harsh on Todoroki and it was him that started to neglect everyone else. It's still Enji's fault, don't get me wrong, but you can see just how many different ways it might have been OK. If only Touya's Quirk was safer, if only Rei could connect to her son and help him be safer, if only Enji knew how to communicate with Touya better, if only Enji could have kept those mistakes from hurting his other 3 kids at least...but no, everything did go wrong and no one was happy from it(except maybe All For One).
Gotta disagree about one point. Rei only wanted Fuyumi because she didn't want Touya to be an only child and to have someone around to play with and support one another. Enji pressured Rei to have more kids afterwards. She even tried to talk him out of it after they went to the doctors to talk about Touya's Quirk. Rei wanted to put a stop to it, and in the manga it's a lot more clear that Enji, after realizing that Touya couldn't be a hero, needed to try for more children to become his masterpiece to replace Touya. It's why when Enji and Rei are talking, and Rei wants to give Touya hope, she's trying to tell Enji that having another kid would not help Touya because Touya knew the reason why he was born.
Rei was good with 2 kids, and Fuyumi was conceived literally 2 months after Touya was born. Natsuo and Shouto were both Enji pushing Rei, after they visited the quirk doctor and learned that Touya's quirk wouldn't let him surpass All Might.
Expect from Shoto, really everyone in the family was responsible for Touya becoming Dabi. Don’t get me wrong Endeavor was the root cause of it all, but everyone else unfortunately added length to what would push Touya over the edge. The mom never really got close with her child, because she saw him in their eyes. The kids ignored what was really happening in home. Yes I’m aware that they were children, just saying it played an unfortunate role. Endeavor really did care for Touya, but didn’t know any way to express his concerns other than anger. Was truly blinded by his goal that is consumed him in a way like Touya. I don’t forgive him but glad that he’s making an atonement.
I think Touya was responsible too, because he rejected every attempt to convince him out of going to the mountain to practice with his quirk. He lashed out or rejected what his parents and siblings had to say any time they didn't validate his feelings of neglect. I'm not sure I'd say he's "at fault," but he knowingly took actions he didn't have to take, after he was warned about the wounds he'd get, and those actions have consequences.
Not sure why people are saying Toya was sexist or misogynistic when he seems to only have a problem with the women in his household and he means that they're useless in terms of understanding his feelings. Fuyumi just told Toya she was worried about him and didn't understand his feelings about not being able to do quirk training and Rei just told Toya the same thing Endeavor was telling him, while also being a hypocrite at the same time as she doesn't have limited options and is telling Toya about all these limited options and also didn't try to understand his feelings fully. It's of course not Fuyumi and Rei's faults, but that's just how Toya feels. Plus, he was raised in an environment where Endeavor could have passed those thoughts onto him with the way Endeavor treats Rei likes she's useless making him think all the women in the household are useless as children pick up on things in an environment and things can easily warp their mindset.
This was a amazing episode it was turly just amazing and it really shows how you could see both perpectives of the situation that was going on with Toya at the time. Sadly he was just a kid who wanted love and affection after having his fathers dream all in his head to the point of thinking that is the only reason he is alive. I don't know if you take requests or anything but I do really think you would like "I know those eyes/That man is dead" Dabi animatic by Double MB. It truly is amazing and I think you'd really like it. Glad I could watch this episode with all you guys hope you guys have a good night or day.
Here we are...on WHY I'm neutral about Endeavor...He had a hand in causing This...which is MORE reason why he has to fix This. He must face Dabi one more time
I'm honestly so proud of Rei. She's such a strong and amazing person. Yes she fucked up while raising Toya, BUT she took action immediately after finding out he was alive and took responsibility. I still can't believe she was able to face her abuser and stand strong right after leaving the hospital in the middle of a war. What a queen
Watching this episode only makes me respect Endeavor more because it's shown how much he's changed from who he used to be. I think some viewers fail to understand that Endeavor wasn't as much of a chronic physical abuser than it's implied. Plus, weren't it not for Endeavor being so strong, Shigaraki wouldn't have burned close to death.
My favorite aspects of MHA and it was handled beautifully. There’s so much layers of newance to this whole thing and the fact that they don’t stray away from the fact that what endeavored it was horrible. But the fact that he realize that he wasn’t worthy of forgiveness and decided to make up for it instead was already powerful, but the fact of the family is willing to come to but basically made them suffer for so long and is willing to take out of peace ONLY because they see his efforts to be better is so powerful. now that they recognize the situation at hand and analyze their past, they can all work together to take down Dabi
The Todoroki family storyline is so fr complex and like the best written storyline in MHA with the way it tackled a subject like abuse and it sucks that's it's kind of underrated by the main storyline when I feel like it's just as good as the main storyline.
@@raec5426 I just think it gets overshadowed a bit by other plotlines and things happening in the manga/anime by people. Perhaps Underrated wasn't the right word I should have used though tbh
I do wonder how well Endeavor could of gotten Toya to stop using his quirk. Although the core of the issue seems to be Toya simply wanting him to spend time with him. Endeavor really should of made time for his kids, as it seems he dumped everyone but Shoto on Rei. We only get to see an abridged version of what happened. I have no idea how often he was at home. Still it seemed like he really did view Toya as a failure and couldn't face him like he should of.
The last part I think is just wrong, which is the issue. I don't think Enji every thought of Touya as a failure, he even says earlier before Todoroki was born he'd have been fine with just having Touya and no other kids even despite Touya's quirk being awful, it was Rei that convinced him to have more kids. Enji just couldn't connect with his kids even when he wanted to, so he could never communicate any of his feelings until now, where he's just to broken to keep anything in.
@@nahte123456 I didn't mean a total failure, but he saw part of himself in his son, a part of himself he didn't like. Which is why he didn't want to deal with it. I doubt he ever told him he was a failure to his face. However his favoritism towards Shoto would allow his other kids to draw that conclusion.
@@nahte123456 he did view him as failure lmao. we saw in shouto s flashbacks, endeavour called his other children touya as failures and shouto as masterpiece. rewatch to show. touya might be child but he broke down because he udnerstood what endeavour trying to do more than any other siblings.
@@ayselengin1798 Wow you are garbage at timelines. Enji never once thought that in any flashback or any time Touya was 'alive', Touya could not know he thought that because we literally see he didn't. He even says he was happy to train him before he found out about the self harm thing. Enji only thought that years later to try and justify to himself why everything went wrong. But sure, if you fuck up the entire timeline and ignore the canon you're kind of right...not really but sure.
I hadn't considered before that Hawks has at least some understanding of what Shoto has gone through with parental abuse considering his own background.
I think the title for this episode is really great. With now having all the context, we see that Endeavor wasn't like deliberately abusive to Toya as he was with Shoto to drive him toward his presumed "unsubscription from life", however, Toya was a "fire" so to speak, a fire that Endeavor lit, and Endeavor made every wrong choice in terms of trying to put it out. Toya wasn't exactly being subtle with his cries for help, but Endeavor just couldn't, or wouldn't, hear it. Not from Toya, or Rei either.
the toaya words when he loses the control of his powers on the manga where very spot on, "... but all that you taught me was how to turn up the heat/fire."
thats pretty much excuse endeavour to run away from his problems, all he had to do was being actual decent human being but he didnt and ruined his family. also neglect is abuse too. givng high expectations to your child is abuse too. touya was abused too, this is why he lost his mind.
@@ayselengin1798 It's not excusing anything. Endeavor is still responsible for all the family's problems, and he still did abuse Toya. Just not deliberately. That doesn't let him off the hook. He still did what he did. Also having high expectations for your kid in and of itself is not abusive. Every parent wants their kids to do well. A parent can be oppressive with those expectations, and that can be abusive, but it's not inherently abusive. Toya lost his mind because of Endeavor, but Endeavor wasn't aware of the harm he was doing to him until it was too late. Part of that is genuine ignorance, and part of it was his own stubbornness that made him refuse to hear Rei's effort to draw his attention to the problem.
23:05 - No. That would be really dumb if Shoto gets blue flames. Blue flame is Dabi/Touya's specialty which makes him different and unique from Shoto and Endeavor and manga author Horikoshi sensei isn't that stupid to take away Touya's specialty from him.
Empathy I'd think. Ultimately Enji and Rei failed Touya because they couldn't empathize with him. Even when Touya outright tried to kill Todoroki and probably Rei too, neither could talk to him honestly. The only family member Touya could talk to was Natsu, another kid that simply wasn't able to deal with all of that.
So… on sexist Toya. He basically is just obsessed with Endeavor’s attention and anything that goes against that is wrong in his eyes. So his mom not helping him and agreeing to have more kids to make his replacement and Fuyumi agreeing that he shouldn’t hurt himself basically made Toya resent them both. Meanwhile Natsuo would let Toya rant and vent to him all the time so to Toya, Natsuo was on his side and useful unlike his mom and Fuyumi. But as we see, the very moment that Natsuo very reasonably wants to just sleep and maybe have Toya talk to someone else about his problems for once, Toya immediately freaks out and lumps Natsuo in with Rei and Fuyumi. He didn’t learn this from Endeavor, but his obsession is what lead him to think this way
13:31 Also, why is Jeanist just styling his hair in the background like that ? He's not saying anything, he's just styling his hair. Even came up to the doorway of the room like that lol
you know what I thought about with endeavor and his wife the way he looks at her man those eyes look like a man who’s about sexually harass his wife, not in romance but trying to create a perfect heir. Yeah I can see why Todoroki and his siblings really hate him throughout all his angrily temper worst anime father. (but I let whatever your opinions are)
I’m more of the impression that the conceiving for both Natsuo and Shoto was simply very empty. Devoid of emotion. The anime just went really hard with that one set of panels. I don’t blame people for the impression it gave. But I think Horikoshi would’ve emphasized more so otherwise if it was rape.
In the manga there's outright a page where Enji talks about Rei encouraging him to have more kids, 291 he confesses he still wanted a kid with a perfect quirk and she tells him more kids are good, they can encourage each other.. He did a bunch wrong but that is 1 thing he's innocent of as far as we know.
@@nahte123456 Well, sort of. Rei said that before they had Fuyumi, but then there was a scene in a later chapter where she decided against having more because it would be cruel to Toya.
@@You-Tube-n5k I mean no-ish? You're talking, I think 301 or around there, but that's not really what seems to be happening? We cut to Rei telling Enji "it'd be cruel" because Touya knows Enji "wants something from the children" and he replies back that Touya inherited "my foolishness" and then said "this is the only way for us". After that we cut to Enji head in his hands and Rei looking away, and then baby-roki. So like first they are very vague on this, but just to be concise lets assume they are talking about trying with a 4th kid. I'm not sure about that since they'd have no reason to believe this would 100% work, but whatever lets not argue about other, remote, possibilities. But after that they are still clearly talking about it, it's not Enji making her he is listening to her and explaining himself. And beyond that he seems, if anything, LESS happy about it, he's the one that can't even look at her, blames himself for "my foolishness" being passed on, and he's the one sitting with his head in his hands as if he's defeated. He looks ready to cry, not like he's about to grab her or anything, and ultimately it's her that looks away indicating she agreed to it. Really it's just neither of them knew how to deal with Touya, Rei says it'd be cruel but she doesn't actually have any other option she gives. And Enji isn't happy either, outright saying he thinks it's the "only way".
I will say that the anime frames the scene somewhat *differently* for the part where Endeavor stares down Rei before Shoto born (5:36), compared to how it was framed like that in the manga for that scene. The manga shows Rei looking towards Endeavor scared in a general sense of the man he is becoming with a montage of Endeavor looking intense overtime while he's a work, etc to show him stuck on surpassing All Might. Not with Rei looking scared from him looking at her like that, like how it was shown in the anime for that particular scene. Source: Ch 302.
Support items sucked back then, earlier on when Deku got his Air Force Gloves All Might even talks about how he once tried Support Items and they basically all shattered before he could even really use them. Also if you're reliant on items, pretty easy weakness in a fight.
Or at least gotten him therapy. The thing is that we can go on about how “support items wouldn’t have worked” or “therapy wouldn’t have helped,” but it won’t mean much since Endeavor never even tried stuff like that.
Where did the animation budget gone for Shoto at 6:09 😂but in seriousness, this episode was insane, but very lore heavy to discover the family problems😶
My question: Did he force her to have these kids? I'm not saying that he, you know, I'm not saying that. Was it consensual? Did she want to have these kids? Did he impregnate her like, "you're going to keep having kids until I get the one I want"
I think Horikoshi would’ve emphasized that more if it was… well rape. But more likely I think it was simply a rather empty affair for conceiving Natsuo & Shoto. That’s just the impression I got. The anime just went REALLY hard with that shot, so I don’t blame people for getting that impression.
The impression I got was that she just did what she needed to do… She didn’t particularly want to have more kids (after Fuyumi, realizing how bad it got), but she was resigned to fulfill their agreement until the end, for the sake of her family and the life she had, I guess. It’s morally murky, basically contractual conception.
In the manga it's very clearly mutual. Enji has some flashbacks when Dabi reveals himself and in it he talks about how he was content to raise Touya despite his imprefect quirk, but still wanted a "perfect" one, which is when Rei tells him "if they have siblings they could encourage each other" (Chapter 291). He also talks about being "fine with it" after Fuyumi was born. At worse in Chapter 301 he and Rei are talking about how it's "to cruel" and Touya can tell Enji "wants something from the children", but it's not explicit and Enji does say "we have no choice" because he thinks this will finally calm Touya down, not because it'll make him happy. But even ignoring the vagueness of this it's still pretty clear she is consenting if not happy about it, but he's not happy about it either so *shrug*. Enji fucked up a LOT, but it was Rei that seems to have had final say if not majority say on the kids. Nothing indicated Enji ever forced her in any way.
I think what happened between Enji and Rei is made purposefully kind of vague to avoid how dangerously close it gets to a word I’m not really comfortable typing. Just for the record, I believe it was Rei’s idea to have Fuyumi, but after that she said no to having more kids. Tbh it’s super freaky

Okay, that's it!!!! before we continue this series, I got to ask what is wrong with him? 14:35 How can you kill somebody who's already dead, in fact why kill anyone at all, honestly Bakugo is a hero suppose to be a hero and heroes don't kill and as for Midoriya he just save the city and everyone else including Bakugo, he should be thanking him not try to kill him. Why kill him at all? why kill anyone? he thinks that what being a hero is about? killing people who don't even deserve it? Oh, sure real heroic, killing people just to save them like that's going to work all the time, well newsflash it doesn't.
@Justin Sigler sad part is it's true, but it wouldn't last long. Like his dad and doctor said, he was born with a body that couldn't handle his dream.
Toya was a victim, and still is as he's a product of Hero Society and of Endeavor's selfishness and abuse. Him being a victim of course doesn't mean he's justified in murdering innocent people and nor was this backstory trying to give a motive or a justification for Toya's actions as a villian. The backstory was I believe instead showing that with most of the villians in MHA, villians arent born, they are created.
@@row7356 Endeavor's one thing, but I think it's a stretch to claim that Toya is a product of Hero Society. That connection seems overly broad as the claim doesn't define Hero Society, or point to any comprehensive link between Hero Society and the experiences of the Todoroki family.
Its ridiculous to call a child sexist dabi obviously viewed his mother as a person who was supposed to help fail him and so projected that image to his sister since when he came to her she was repeating what her mother was saying (to just move on) its tragic situation when your calling out for help but no one is listening
On a personal note, this is the point in the series where Enji’s arc just takes a huge nosedive for me. So it’s oddly fitting for it to be closed off by showing how messed up he was. I hope that made sense lol
4:37-No need to sugarcoat it! He is not wrong, but VERY WRONG! Especially the part "i know my body better than anyone" is wrong. The doctor knows better!
You know if you really look at this backstory and I mean really analyze it! with the exceptions of the three kids (Natsou, Fuyumi & Shoto) no one really comes out looking great.
Am I the only one who thinks Touya directly contributed to his own demise? Literally half of the family tried to convince him out of constantly going to the mountain because they knew it was hurting him, and both parents also tried to convince him that he could pursue other paths in life than being a hero. Every time they said something to him, Touya shut them out, saying they don't understand how he feels, and he told both parents that it's their fault. Now I'm not saying the parents didn't fail to help their child move past trying to please Daddy, but the flashbacks clearly show that Touya didn't want to hear any response that didn't validate his feelings of neglect, even if the majority of those responses were out of genuine concern for his physical and emotional well-being. I think the strongest example of this was when Rei tried to talk to him. She said what Enji said, on top of saying that he can find his own path in the world instead of trying to please his father. As soon as she said that, he just lashed out at her before shutting her out and going to the mountain. I think saying he's "at fault" carries the wrong connotation, but I think Touya is responsible for his own actions (even if he doesn't think he is), and those actions have consequences. Like, nobody forced, coerced, or manipulated him into going to that mountain.
@akhandtripathi3836 I think "Isn't convincing nobody" is too strong wording. I don't think it's categorically true that parents can't convince their kids to not do something without telling them nicely. I think that would imply that parents could never be effectively stern with their kids even if they weren't being nice. If we're going to talk about Touya's non-compliant behavior, then I think we should be more specific as to what actions were taken and how anyone to which behavior/stimuli. Besides, Rei was nice to Touya about it, and he lashed out at her before going to the mountain. Fuyumi tried to nicely convince him and he lashed out at her too. Are you not willing to acknowledge those interactions, or are you inclined to interpret them in some other way?
Can we highlight how shoto really had the heart to be a true hero? When he saw his dad hit his mom, yes he couldn't win but he stood his ground against endeavour
For reasons we won't find out until probably next season Enji wasen't equipped to be a dad. Neither parent was ready for a child let alone four. Enji really only focused on work and trying to make a succsesor while Rei just hung around not really doing much. While Natsu and Fuyumi where kids and could not do much they still could have done more. Plus since Enji is depressed right now its probably more about getting him ready to work again. Also the biggest tragedy is that the one thing that Enji always reggretted in getting Toya killed is what ultimatley is comming for him.
Can I just say can we talk about reis comment on SHOTO HES THE TRUE HERO IN OUR FAMILY THAT'S SUCH A STRONG FUCKING LINE DUDE like literally cause shoto went through a lot he was molded or tried to be molded into the hero that would beat all might dealt with to succeed without USING endeavor's quirk and then like it's just thats not cause out of all the todoroki family he was the only one persay to be a true hero like wow 😲 😳😳 and I'm Curious are we gonna be able to reform or in dekus words rescue Toya and if not can shoto and endeavor have the heart to kill Toya if that's needed AHHHHH IM SO EXCITED
Unpopular opinion: I don’t feel bad for Touya. Like don’t me wrong he has a right to be mad at Endeavor, but he took it too far even as a kid. The rest of the family, they can hate Endeavor as much as they want. At this point Dabi is worse than his father. Also he was asked to stop repeatedly and was a horrible even as a kid.
Toya was a victim of child abuse, as child neglect is a form of child abuse. Endeavor neglected Toya's emotional and mental needs, neglected to get psychological help for Toya, neglected to even look after him and pushed Toya onto Rei, and neglected to spend any time with Toya because every chance he got to spend time with Toya was spent training Shoto who was essentially Toya's replacement instead. And the reason Toya wasn't listening to Endeavor was because Endeavor when Toya was a very young age drilled being a hero and surpassing All Might so much into Toya that he didn't know any other paths and believed it was his purpose in life especially when Toya eventually found out the reason he was born was to surpass someone else. Also, Toya as an abused child is going to misbehave and lash out especially in the toxic environment Toya was in. Toya is a victim of Endeavor's selfishness and abuse and also of Hero Society as well.
This is kinda where I am, but not as strongly. Like it's clear from the flashbacks that Touya rejected every response that didn't validate his feelings, even when they were out of genuine concern for both his physical and emotional well-being. He looked up to Daddy but even when Daddy tried to convince him to do something else, he criticized his dad for not understanding how he felt (which really just means, "you're not validating me and that hurts"). I'm not saying the parents didn't fail to help him heal from his feelings of neglect, but he knowingly, repeatedly, took actions that resulted in him getting hurt, and actively resisted every attempt to convince him out of going to the mountain. Unfortunately, actions have consequences.
They say the hero creates the villain. But it’s worse when you’re enemy is part of your family. I can’t imagine the amount of guilt Endeavor must feel.
1.This has nothing to do with the current video. 2. I already stated in the pinned comment of my last miraculous video about WHEN we will be watching more. 3. Miraculous is only uploaded on Tuesdays, if they are being uploaded. I will never post outside of that day.
The exact words from Toya were that the women in his FAMILY are useless. Uncalled for for Fyumi since she's younger and reasonably concerned, but he sees her not having the same mindset as him. His thoughts about his mom Rei are more deep cut than anything, but he's not completely wrong that she's way too complacent to stop him at the time, and even she agrees by the end of the day. Pretty sure he doesn't feel that way anymore because Endeavor is the cause of everything.
I don't think he ever had a strong relationship with Rei. During infanticide she was pregnant with Fuyumi, and then she was taking care of 2 infants at once, and then pregnant/taking care of Natsuo, and then pregnant/taking of Shouto. And after Shouto, the kids got separated into two sides of the house, so that would make it super hard to stay present with both sets of kids. When she says she didn't look at Touya either, I take that quite literally to mean she was neglecting him too. It looks like Endeavor stepped up to help with Touya when Fuyumi was born. Which shows a healthy give and take relationship. And then Endeavor withdrew his support, saddled her with two additional kids, and started hitting her for not keeping an eye on Touya.
He took David Bowie too seriously
Yeah you are right but it's never actually too late for change I still believe in him I agree that it was really wrong of doing what he did to his family but in the end he realized that it was wrong and tries to change
I mean to be fair, seeing first hand how his father treated his mother. It’s understandable we’re Toya got it from.
@@danondivanov8316 Even if the child is a misogynist, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary that he learned those things based on how his dad treats his mom, he's too young to solely balm it on him alone.

That's easily the most accurate summary for this episode.
Endeavor clearly Fd up.
Mom admitted she Fd up.
The other sibs realize how they Fd up.
And Shoto had to deal with all that AND NOW Dabi.
Baby Shotos face was funny
Well Enji is undeniable the root of the problems & drama of the Todoroki family I appreciate that the rest of the Family are willing to acknowledge that they're not totally blameless either they all could've done things differently they all could've done better (Except Shoto he did nothing wrong).
Shoto was born, that's what he did wrong
Shoto's existence did wrong to dabi

(This is an unproven theory, but I do VERY much so believe in it.)
And the final thing regarding the Todoroki’s.
I really, really like your theory about Touya's tears being melted ice. So thank you for that.
The drama was so good like finally all the tea on this family was so juicy. So hard seeing endeavor in those flashbacks like oof him before his character development was so hard to watch again. This episode still didn’t explain how exactly Toya escaped and survived so I’m curious to see that. Overall a fantastic episode

Enji is way more responsible for dabi than Rei
You're either lying or having piss poor reading comprehension.
You're either lying or having piss poor reading comprehension.
Did you see the frosted-hardened bubble coming out of baby Shoto's nose? 😂🥺
What a happy family 😂
I wonder when we will get an episode where we see what happened to Toya after the forest fire, like where did he go

I'm plussing on that. That's such a good animatic 😭
I will say, this would be a lot better if Enji didn’t kind of abandon the situation right after. It’s still a pretty amazing scene though
The Todoroki family storyline is so fr complex and like the best written storyline in MHA with the way it tackled a subject like abuse and it sucks that's it's kind of underrated by the main storyline when I feel like it's just as good as the main storyline.
@@row7356 It's not underrated at all, people always praise it. lol
This episode is just heartbreaking
(8:45 excited)
10:30 and then as yaboroshi mentioned - it would've gone slightly different if his dad showed up and just _looked at him_ like he hoped
23:05 - No. That would be really dumb if Shoto gets blue flames. Blue flame is Dabi/Touya's specialty which makes him different and unique from Shoto and Endeavor and manga author Horikoshi sensei isn't that stupid to take away Touya's specialty from him.
And the moral of the story is... be a good father?
Empathy I'd think. Ultimately Enji and Rei failed Touya because they couldn't empathize with him. Even when Touya outright tried to kill Todoroki and probably Rei too, neither could talk to him honestly. The only family member Touya could talk to was Natsu, another kid that simply wasn't able to deal with all of that.
on a shounen? just go buy milk
@@nahte123456 Natsu *is* quite empathetic.
Just letting you know there's still more back story to touya specifically what happened after touya "died"

Hey, two dub episodes of MHA (18 and 19) were both released yesterday, do you plan to react to both in one video or what?
you know what I thought about with endeavor and his wife the way he looks at her man those eyes look like a man who’s about sexually harass his wife, not in romance but trying to create a perfect heir.

All this could've been avoided if they just invested in some support items for him. I don't understand why they didn't think of that.

Tbh it’s super freaky

you know how the powerpuff girls were made? yeah Horikoshi made Dabi the same way but accidentally added too much Chemical M. (misogyny)
15:35-15:51 yeah………
No 🙂
Toya’s backstory is revealed.
Cool motive, still murder.
In all honestly, Toya would have been a better hero than his father, if his life was different...
@Justin Sigler sad part is it's true, but it wouldn't last long. Like his dad and doctor said, he was born with a body that couldn't handle his dream.
This is more about Toya, than Dabi.
The chapter is very good I leave you 1 like and I want you to see the next one sooner, something epic is coming
I just saw your Omori shelf. 👍
True true. He's also ~4 in that scene, so Touya gets a pass for being wrong 😂
"Go down something else, I am busy" is not convincing nobody
Endeavour caused dabi to suffer through hell because he couldn't talk to him nicely
You're gonna need Oshawot next episode. Like. REALLY need him
For reasons we won't find out until probably next season Enji wasen't equipped to be a dad.
TBH, I feel bad for the Todoroki family. When you're born that big an asshole, the least you can do is have a little empathy.
Watch the Japanese version
Can I just say can we talk about reis comment on SHOTO HES THE TRUE HERO IN OUR FAMILY THAT'S SUCH A STRONG FUCKING LINE DUDE like literally cause shoto went through a lot he was molded or tried to be molded into the hero that would beat all might dealt with to succeed without USING endeavor's quirk and then like it's just thats not cause out of all the todoroki family he was the only one persay to be a true hero like wow 😲 😳😳 and I'm Curious are we gonna be able to reform or in dekus words rescue Toya and if not can shoto and endeavor have the heart to kill Toya if that's needed AHHHHH IM SO EXCITED
omg im here early i cant wait!
To late im tearing up
Laughing now because shoto looking funny
Im mad now why he so sexist-
NOOOO NOW IM CRYING WHAT HAPPENED
I think toya was kinda "sexsist" because he knows his mother was basically bought?

😍🥰🤩🤩
**poopoo** 😊
They say the hero creates the villain. But it’s worse when you’re enemy is part of your family. I can’t imagine the amount of guilt Endeavor must feel.
you cant imagine the pain, the trauma, the sufferind touya, shouto, rei, natsuo, fuyumi had been through all those fcking years.

Why is Touya being a sexist pig😭
The exact words from Toya were that the women in his FAMILY are useless.
Uncalled for for Fyumi since she's younger and reasonably concerned, but he sees her not having the same mindset as him.
His thoughts about his mom Rei are more deep cut than anything, but he's not completely wrong that she's way too complacent to stop him at the time, and even she agrees by the end of the day.
Pretty sure he doesn't feel that way anymore because Endeavor is the cause of everything.
He's probably learning it from his father, he's just a child so it makes more sense to blame the father for it.
@@Mr.YasQueen yeah I blame Enji for it.
