You can use Davinci transcription to "Remove Silent Portions", isn't that the same exact thing you were asking for? It goes through and cuts out all the silent portions automatically...
Bit depth is similar on both BRAW and REDRAW for your own information. It’s just the way they advertise it. 16 bit is on a linear signal, while 12 bit is on a log one. At the end of the day, 16 bit linear is 12 bit log and vice versa. Best
If they ever made it. It would go against the main thing blackmagic stands for affordability and accessibility. They are fine. They make great cams. Unfortunately hobbyist that are not really interested in a functional camera but just having an expensive toy have to many opinions and not enough videos actually made on blackmagic cameras.
Hey Michael. I agree with most of your theories. I know you probably know this but Resolve does have a feature with auto transcript that automatically cuts the dead air out.
*I really think it's time BMD updated their RAW Codec from a 12 Bit based colour science to a 16 Bit based colour science. I also think BMD should bring back the option on their cameras to be able to shoot in a compressed codec, such as ProRes, since not all shooters are properly equipped or need to be working in a RAW based workflow.*

@@MaxKissler Look at the REDCODE RAW Codec. Your eyes can plainly see the difference between 12 Bit RAW and 16 Bit RAW. Bit Count = Colour Resolution and colour depth. This also means you can push the Codec much further in post before it starts to fall apart. There is way more information in the shadows in a 16 Bit RAW Codec than there is in a 12 Bit one. Why do so many professional colourists convert Cinema DNG, or BRAW to REDCODE RAW, and then colour grade ? Don't get me wrong, 12 Bit BRAW looks great, but REDCODE RAW looks even better because of the amount of information the Codec delivers from the camera sensor in post. Put another way, it's simply additive mathematics. How much information can a 12 bit scale deliver and how much can a 16 bit scale deliver ?
@@markjob6354 It seems like you should look into logarithmic compression methods. What you're claiming is factually incorrect. Even Reds RAW codec is in a 12bit log format. Btw, there is not a single camera with a 16bit ADC that captures actual 16bits worth of data. I've graded almost all codecs out there and while there's definitely a difference between cameras and sensors (and the entire image creation pipeline) there's almost no difference between the amount of information in braw and r3d of comparable compression ratios.
A lot of people like the BM cameras. I’m not one of them, but I like their competitive pricing and innovation. I own a bunch of their hyperdecks and the Atem mini pro. Great company.
I think the problem is often that people seem to want their preferred camera manufacturer to copy another camera manufacturer or reproduce it in some way. I'm not sure Blackmagic is capable of making a camera system like Sony or Canon. They are much more just making boxes (though ironically, not a box shape) to fit a sensor and their OS into, though obviously the image quality is great. They have slowly improved, but it's worth remembering they have only made cameras for a tiny fraction of how long Sony or Canon have.
I would love to see them drop something new. Highly doubtful that they do. They stay in business by not releasing crap every year with slight spec bumps
Totally on board with the not refreshing every year thing. Problem is most of their camera line is 3+ years old. The full frame besides the sensor wasn’t really any of an upgrade.
I found the Blackmagic to Cloud a nightmare for one reason, when working on a project and using different machines it's awesome, but..., then I was offline while travelling and Oooops, no go, so now everything is local again.
Davinci Resolve 19. I just feel it. I have no inside knowledge. I just remember when they came out with....14? 15? I forget...but they told NO ONE and just had a huge banner on the convention center. It's about time they do it again. We'll see!
I’m placing my dark-horse-bet on a 12k 65mm IMAX Ursa. (Two 6k full-frame sensors side-by-side). Blackmagic marketing the first indie-affordable IMAX camera seems like something right in their wheel house. I mean, Mamiya lenses aren’t really even that expensive. They could partner with them or something… Blackmagic 65mm lens line. Fujifilm has lenses that would cover this as well.
@@KMcDevitt they did say in an interview that it’ll be more than the new FF Ursa 12K… which is 15k. So I’d guess somewhere in the $20-25k range. So probably a bit much for the average indie solo shooter… but affordable if you have a studio or small company that can finance it. Still VERY exciting and impressive for an IMAX format camera. I mean, you can’t even buy the Alexa 65… it’s rental only. It’s crazy Blackmagic is even doing this all things considered. It’s going shake up a lot in the “high-end” cinema space.
I don't know if we'll see an FX6 style replacement, but I do agree that it only makes sense that they will likely make an URSA FF at some point soon. The thing one must remember is Blackmagic has shifted intot he mentality of backward compatibility with existing gear to lower the user cost. Given that mentality they're likely to stick with something closer to the existing ursa line. Is this a good idea? Probably not in this day and age, but given they've consistently ignored the desired box camera outside of the micro studio I've all but lost hope that they will ever do anything I really want in the camera department.

I believe that is a circuit board problem. Poorly overlaid circuits. Micheal may you please do a test on the Full Frame cinema camera 6K. An extreme low light scene with a camera pan to test for the dreaded fixed pattern noise. Thank you Micheal.

I don't think Resolve 19 is going to be Resolve 19... I think it's going to be Resolve 20. Several years ago, I think it might have been version 8, they went from 8 -> 8.5 -> 10 (or something like that, it was a long time ago). Apparently there was a local superstition around the skipped number (kind of like hotels skipping the 13h floor here in America). Since last year's release was 18.5, I think they'll do the same this year. Yes, this was an absolutely unnecessary take. But I just wanted to put it out somewhere.
I'd love to use the Blackmagic camera app, but it's iOS-only. They need to offer it on Android, too. Android has had phones with equal or better quality for the better part of a decade now.
The question is it 19 or 20 😅, regardless what makes this version interesting is bmd can now truley inovate with resolve so its gonna be interesting what this year will bring :)

I REALLY hate the fx 6 design over the komodo, less modular, way too much buttons that you only use max the half of it on a regular shoot. but they take off a lot of space where you could rig stuff . If you fully cover it w a side panel , you cant reach the buttons at all , if not you have a lot of dead rigging space. There are a few cameras from other companies with "some" of these features, and they are definitely not cheap... virtual production was supposed to get cheaper as technology got easier, but it seems most are milking this for as long as they can.
Probably gonna have a 6k full frame pro by 2025. If you look we had 4k pocket, then 1 year and half later 6k, then 1 year and a half later 6k pro, then 6k gen 2, then 6k full frame. Probably 2025 6K full frame pro or 6k full pro or gen 2 with improvements
