Melissa Lykins while I could never go vegetarian, I have recently discovered cheese is linked to several diseases including cancer. I'm going to finish all the cheese I have in my fridge, then try to wean off cheese as much as possible. Good for you for going vegetarian. Respect girl!!!!

Alyssa Landrith for me, burgers is gonna be the hardest thing to get off of. Their my guilty pleasure food already, and I think it's the cheese, because normally I hate all meat and won't eat any meat unless it's a burger. It's hard becoming a vegan when you live in a family that consumes the products you don't want to eat. Sometimes it's convenient. But yknow, the moment I can I'm becoming vegan.

Pizza hut anyone? I get them to put the oil and shaker spices on the CRUST. It turns them into legit breadsticks and IS AMAZING. They always are confused when I explain it to them and I'm like "I can't be the first person who has thought to do this."
See depending on the pizza (the store or restaurant) I will eat some if not all the crust but some crusts are just nasty

No she's right it's called cretinism it is a disease people can get due to an iodine deficiency which causes the person to be stunted mentally and physically due to the negative effects the iodine deficiency has on their thyroid
Old comment but my grandma is allergic to iodine so she never had it while pregnant with my mom. My mom was born over two months early and had thyroid issues her whole life, she recently went in and got it checked and they said her gland was basically shriveled up and dead and useless.

Neuroscientist with a dairy allergy here - people are focusing on cheese because it's got a higher concentration of casein compared to other dairy products. You separate curds and whey to make cheese. Whey is one milk protein, and casein (in the curds) is another. When beta-casein is broken down in the body, one of the products is the common allergen for people with casein allergies/intolerances, and another is beta-casomorphin, which attaches to and activates mu-opioid receptors.

I've been a vegetarian for about 3 years for ethical reasons and I consider going completely vegan on a daily basis but cheese is so hard for me to give up! I eat cheese every day, I rarely eat any other animal by-product, but boiiiiii cheese is everything. You guys really inspire me to give up cheese for good and really go vegan. Cheese isn't exactly unethical, it won't hurt animals if harvested responsibly. There are ethical/cruelty free cheese producers in many places. Many local farmers produce cheese responsibly compared to mass producers.

Fun fact about the cheese thing: I'm allergic to casein (casomorphins) - dairy proteins. Cheese still tempts me even though eating it would cause extreme mucous production in my sinuses, my digestion to stop, a casein migraine that lasts for 6 hours minimum, and a mouth foaming. My airways remain clear and there's no hives, but it's the type of reaction one gets when there's no enzyme to digest something. I'm also allergic to morphine for this same reason, and have had the same reaction to it.
I have watched so many hours of you two today and my day has been the best. You are both so hilarious i just love you. My favorite thing is seeing how creative Julien gets at talking about the sponsors and how funny it is to see you get Jenna too too funny. Makes me laugh a lot. So glad you both have a podcast and some day in the future I will have watched every one of them

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I remember learning in my college biology class that dairy is addictive because all milk from mammals has some sort of addictive chemicals in it so that babies have the drive to drink it and get all of the nutrients that they need to survive. That's why you have to ween babies off of breast milk, and also why dairy products are addictive. At least i'm pretty sure, again someone correct me if i'm wrong i'm an art major and not well versed in sciencey type things lol.
(We learned that as a part of learning about evolution btw, since lactose tolerance is actually a mutation developed by humans over time. Our bodies aren't meant to tolerate milk from any mammal other than ourselves, so lactose intolerance is actually the natural human state.)
