I met George 45 years ago when his car broke down near my house . I didn't realise who he was at first heedless to say I was over the moon when I knew, what a great guy.
Yes a great song from 1974. I thought it was so cool. I was a 19 yr old United States Marine getting ready to deploy to Camp Foster, Okinawa. Thanks George. Semper Fidelis
George has always been my favorite Beatle. He was truly special. And “ Dark Horse “ is one of his best solo songs. Another forgotten classic from the 70s.
This has been my theme song since I was facing jail time for some trouble I got into when I was a teen. Friends disowned me, teachers dismissed me. I turned my life around and became pretty successful. Showed them all. Don't count the dark horses out.
Yours is a moving story. I fully appreciate how a GH song can inspire you to success. While his music was sweet to the ear, the lyrics told stories worth hearing.
@Bill Hobbie He made our world a better place for sure as for are we worthy of him I wish I could impart some George type of wisdom but I'd only fall short.
I think George has that effect on many of us. He was such an extraordinary person. I have trouble believing he's gone---his spirit is so strong. I think maybe he comes down and visits us from time to time. Maybe that's why we feel him so intensely. .
It saddens me to watch these images while listening to the song. What a beautiful soul George Harrison was. My favorite Beatle BY FAR. Wish he was still with us.
All the 7th frett capo's wont stop this being an awesome song. George was a late bloomer with the Beatles songwrtting.. But he made up for it. Also a brilliantly inventive slide guitarist. Economical yet fast/ and tasteful. A true Legend. May you be remembered always George Harrison. XX
Most of his stuff he tried to pass to the rest of the Beatles but they waved it away without even caring. We’re lucky we got something, while my guitar gently weeps & For You Blue. I heard they (Paul & John) were sticklers for having Ringo or George write or pass a song onto an album. This is what ultimately made “All Things Must Pass” a FANTASTIC album. They must have felt like shit after that. Till this day All Things Must Pass is one of the greatest albums of all time.
Losing George Harrison was like having a best friend,,,kinda quiet...very talented but was not a showoff..One of the Greatest Musicians and this is just a sample of this man;s ability to sing and play guitar at the same time..a HUGE loss to the music industry...Even tho EC had to pry his old friend out of obscurity...we only had him for a while...I reget everytime that I've never seen this man play.....well ,,I'll never forget his music.,..RIP
Dark Horse was the 1st album I bought of George’s, as a young teen. Love the clop clop clop drumming sounds, I picture a horse galloping while listening
I feel like my hearing is defective? Everyone’s raving about it, I think his voice is awful on this whole album, and I was a major fan so that’s hard to say.
Georges voice was pretty screwed up the whole year, recording this album and the following tour, and it wasnt laryngitis as much as damage from a lot of Cocaine and hepititus. Lucky for him and us Olivia nursed him back to good health.
I've heard post live versions of this and I don;t like them as much. I must be the only one who thinks the fierce rasp really suits this song. George had a healthy a level of anger churning inside him according to those who know him well and this is just what this particular subject matter needed. BALLS.
Glenn Wheatcroft Their achievements are legendary that in itself can become overwhelming. As was the case with John who would not be left alone by the press media about his anger. He was outspoken as was George the quiet Beatle until he had something to say, that he felt was important. It isn't easy being bigger than Jesus Christ!
He had an unhealthy amount of anger, from where who knows. He lacked gratitude to John, Paul, and Martin for letting him sing and contribute songs so much before he blossomed in about 1968. They used "Only A Northern Song," for goodness sakes, a song about not bothering to write a good song. Being a musician who's friends with Lennon and McCartney from childhood must mess with your head.
Just saw the 50th anniversary remaster of A Hard Day's Night at a theater in Cleveland, brings back memories of the Beatles when they were so young. As a kid I always leaned toward Paul and his music, but as I got older I started favoring George's music. Great clips of George here through the years.
grayfoxfive funny enough, I always leaned toward George but I’ve recently gotten into Paul’s post-Beatles work and have started leaning his way a little too. Either way, George will always be my favorite Beatle. His personality and talent can’t be replicated and I really lament that he passed away before I got a chance to see him in concert.
1974, a great year for music. I was 19 yrs old Lance Corporal, stationed at Camp LeJeune, NC, then on to Camp Foster, Okinawa, when this song was released. What a year.
+ulysses1904 You are SO lucky, ulysses1904, ! I was too young to see him. How was he? I heard the crowd was unhappy with him playing a lot of Krisna music....did he play some of his hits?
+Jim K Hey Jim. I was 15 years old and I remember people not being thrilled with the extended raga music portions. I guess we were all expecting a Beatles based show and were disappointed. I remember he played "In My Life" which is the only Beatles song I can remember. But I'm not the best judge as it was just exciting to be visiting NYC and being at Madison Square Garden and seeing a Beatle, he could have sang nursery rhymes and I would have been thrilled.
GH was so great. A late boomer by Beatles standards. But George touched the human soul. The so called quiet one....was the loudest in my ears. Miss you GH.

Billy Preston remarked that Harrison was probably one of the best people of character that he ever met.

This song is really underrated. The strain in George's voice really added something to it.
Yes a great song from 1974. I thought it was so cool. I was a 19 yr old United States Marine getting ready to deploy to Camp Foster, Okinawa. Thanks George. Semper Fidelis
I heard he had tonsillitis when he recorded it. You’re right. I love the way his voice sounds.
It makes it sound better with tonsillitis.
And no wonder why his voice sounds a bit better and more scratchy or different.
It’s a bad song and a fantastic song at the same time.
I feel like my blood pressure goes down instantly when I listen to George Harrison. 🤗

What would George say about that?
This song is absolutely incredible. Cant help but appreciate life when a song like this is playing. Thank you george ❤️

Jenevieve. I know what you mean
that happens to me too, such a beautiful soul he was
George Harrison was amazingly talented. He was very spiritual and had a great sense of humor. Today would have been his 78th birthday. RIP GEORGE.
That rhythm sounds like the hooves of horses galloping. Very clever, George!
is that Ringo galloping ??? !!!
Not his style. I'm sure it's Jim Keltner.
Exactly! I'm glad I'm not the only one who heard this!
It saddens me to watch these images while listening to the song. What a beautiful soul George Harrison was. My favorite Beatle BY FAR. Wish he was still with us.

Amazing to dance to this song. Really feel it and dance to it. What a natural high.
Very nice. One of Harrison's best solo songs, and its touch of minstrelsy shows a Jethro Tull influence. Thanks for posting!

One of the best
You thought that you knew where I was and when
It looks like they've been foolin' you again
You thought that you'd got me all staked out
But baby looks like I've been breaking out
I'm a dark horse
Running on a dark race course
I'm a blue moon
Since I stepped out of the womb
I've been a cool jerk
Who's looking for the source
I'm a dark horse
You thought that you had got me in your grip
Baby looks like you was not so smart
And I became too slippery for you
Let me tell you that was nothing new
I'm a dark horse
Running on a dark race course
I'm a blue moon
Since I picked up my first spoon
I've been a cool jerk
Who's looking for the source
I'm a dark horse
I thought that you knew it all along
Until you started getting me not right
Seems as if you heard a little late
I warned you when we both was at the starting gate
I'm a dark horse
Running on a dark race course
I'm a blue moon
Since I stepped out of the womb
I've been a cool jerk
Who's looking for his perks
I'm a dark horse
I'm a dark horse
Running on a dark race course
I'm a blue moon
Since I stepped from out of the womb
I've been a cool jerk
Just looking at the source
I'm a dark horse...
