@@emau2459As an artist myself, I notice the best skill one can have is to be able to hear what is playing inside one's head (lyrics, melodies and harmonies) and to translate all of that to the “physical”. Once you learn an instrument, the translating part is not that difficult. The real work lies in learning to hear (or receive) your art. The best artists are the ones that have their channels very open, and The Beatles did it like no one else. So besides love, there is also truth - they were absolutely true to themselves. This is translated in their performances and freedom of production. Even Ringo shared this core honesty, so if the song asked him to record an extra snare or maybe only a tambourine the whole song, that's what he would do. So they treated each song as if it were its own world.
@@edu-lins Well said; thank you for your insight. To me, the Beatles almost represent the expansion of consciousness, how they kept redefining themselves and finding a deeper truth to express; and in the end, returning to where they started, just rock n roll. No other band has ever had the same effect on me, despite the amazing acts that are out there. For me, Pink Floyd is a close second, but still shy of the mark.
Afraid that's only because this has a relatively low view count. Once it gets popular, some algorithm will take notice and -woops! ads will start appearing.
It's like the band that invented "going viral" is still going viral. Not to mention there is a good chance John is the 1st original troll. Just research "I Am The Walrus". John knew exactly what he was doing.
The Garden at Gethsemane, followed by carrying the cross (Boy you're gonna carry that weight a long time), followed by being nailed to the cross (drum solo), followed by dying on the cross because he Loves You, followed by it is finished (And in the end the love you make is equal to the love you take). The greatest story ever told set to rock music. Pure genius.
@@jcsgodmother That's an interesting assessment but the lyrics aren't actually referring to religion, Golden Slumbers is really referring to the play Patient Grissel by Thomas Dekker printed in England in 1603. (When Paul wrote this song, he referred to the words of Patient Grissel closely, read them and you'll see). And Patient Grissel is itself referring to Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.
I stand by the interpretation I wrote down. John Lennon said the Beatles were a Christian band and spent his entire life "playing the role" of Jesus. Abbey Road was the last album they recorded (Let It Be was released last because it took so long to get it in shape for release but it was recorded before Abbey Road). This medley is their effort to take everything they were working on but had not completed and put it together in a medley that summed up the Beatles . It was John wrapping up the Beatles and it makes a Christian statement. It is their final masterpiece.
@@jcsgodmother I'm afraid this song has nothing to do with your religion. As I said, the song comes from Patient Grissel (there is a poem in Patient Grissel called "Golden Slumbers", I'll add the poem in another post). And John Lennon did not believe in your god. Nor does Paul McCartney. Nor did George Harrison.
Golden slumbers fill your eyes. My mother, who has passed on now, filled my ears as a child with this great music. I'm forever grateful. Love ya mom, miss you so much.
I suspect a lot of we Boomer Mom's did this for our children. My 47 year old son was at a Beatles cover band concert last Saturday...he kept texting me, sending video clips He was so excited to share and I loved every moment as I knew how deeply he felt the music and how irrevocably it ties us together.
Not so sure any of us are in a position to judge the greatest piece of music ever recorded but that it is objective to claim this was one of the greatest bands ever at their best. And that is more then enough. Heck 50+ years ago this was recorded and so many still love it to no end. I can listen to this every few weeks and never tire of it.
I totally agree!!! My sincere thank you for sharing this masterpiece medley the way it was recorded!!! I will love them till the end of time!!!!! The best band ever!!!
God bless you 70 s guys still listening to the most creative bands in history. I'm 64 in December and I hope I'm dusting off Beatles records if I make it to the 70s. Lol
What makes this medley so much more amazing is it is actually made up of a colleciton of partially-completed songs. It was Paul McCartney who suggested stringing the bits together and rumor has it that at first John Lennon was against the idea. That may not be true as people who were there as these bits were worked say Lennon had a fun time with the project. The fragments were recorded inndividually or two at a time and then strung together more than one way before the final product emerged, and what a wonderful product it was!
And to think that it was mostly made up from leftover songs that they couldn't really finish. Loads of people say this is their favourite album becuase of this medley. Whereas with a lot of other bands, their material gets weaker as they go on, and no one really likes their final abum, it's an absolute testament to them that thier final output is considered to be thier best.
I am assuming my dad will go first and he committed me to playing every version of "Knocking on Heavens Door" from Dylan to Guns and Roses to Clapton during his burial and I assued him that will be the case. My request is much simpler. Abbey Road Medley.
Every sound ever produced by a human being led to this. The greatest virtues of mankind condensed in 16 minutes. This is one the things that makes every bad thing we've done worth it.
They did their best work when they were breaking up. They gave it everything they had, for old time's sake. This is a freaking masterpiece. I will ALWAYS love the Beatles
If anyone is unsure what a "ten bob note" means, it's a slang term for what was a unit of currency in England, to the value of half a pound. As with any banknote, they were often rolled up and inserted into the nose to take drugs.
4/10/1970 Sitting in freshman year of high school in the cafeteria when in comes a friend crying that the Beatles had just broken up. The whole table ran through every conceivable emotion. He might as well set off a hand grenade in the middle of us! We were wiped out. One of the worst days of our short lives. Loved them dearly and still do! The best ever!!!
“And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make” correct me if I’m wrong, but there has never been a better farewell track in all of pop music history, it’s literally the definition of a perfect ending
I agree... but without the other two... Brian Epstein and George Martin there is no way to confirm if their success would have been to the magnitude it eventually got to.
You can't take anything away from George Martin. Before him The Beatles were playing mostly covers in dive bars for beer money. However it was Epstein that got them to George Martin. So there is that...
@@CB-xr1eg Paul and George Martin putting it together is the ONLY reason I believe John was critical of it. But here nor there his best studio work is on it as well for all of eternity to admire.

In 1964, my father begrudgingly - with the help of my mom - allowed me to get a Beatles haircut, but never let me wear Beatle boots. Every one of their albums, upon release, became my new favorite. My girls grew up with the Beatles and other 60s and 70s classic rock, jazz, classical, et al, but the Beatles are our favorite. 2015, I took my wife and daughters to see Paul for her 60th birthday. We had incredible seats and an unforgettable time. My oldest walked down the aisle to In My Life. They brought long-lasting joy to so many lives and generations.

I'm 76 years of age (March 26, 2024) and the Beatles were an important part of my late teen and early adult life. This album introduced me to the medley form of music where one track of music led into the next track.... I loved this format and played the 'Abby Road' album back in 1969 endlessly. Then I found 'Pink Floyd' Their music is much different than that of the Beatles but the albums seem to follow the 'Medley' format and are the kind of albums best suited for head phones and disc player I love both bands. I listen to the Beatles when I need the quick and dirty.... I listen to the Floyd when I want to kick back, put on the head phones and escape.
Why were they great? They introduced incredible, innovative melodies. They understood the importance of great, close harmonies. They did rock, ballads and even invoked classical music. They included great, thought-provoking lyrics. They changed the entire world of popular music.
As a guitar player, I notice that they used chords that were unusual for rock and roll - not just simple major and minor chords. Doing so added feeling and color to their music.
listen to George Harrison’s guitar work on don’t let me down. It always reminds me of a waltz. It has such percussive quality to it, and that sort of thing was common even from the early days. They were so sophisticated at the deepest levels and it just poured out of them involuntarily.
@@kevinwithers3781 everybody that ever played with George Harrison said he was an encyclopedia of musical knowledge, especially with chords. His close friendship with a Bob Dylan lead Dylan to acknowledge that. when you listen to Dylan‘s music before George Harrison, and after there is a huge improvement in terms of chord-diminished, augmented, etc. George Harrison called them the naughty chords. Tom Petty said the very same thing about him. It turns out they were really close, and that their children grew up together and were and still are very close.
The art of writing to a song He's no virtuoso But he doesn't have to be - that's were his critics' go wrong. They expect him to be a technically brilliant drummer - he, instead, plays to the song. His writing sensibilities are first and foremost in service to the song he's playing. That makes him brilliant in my book.
the drumming through each track just complements each section perfectly. this easily shows that he is an amazing drummer, and that's thanks to his unorthodox style

you can leave the beatles for a while and listen to other stuff but, when you come back...just WOW !! it hits you again just how good they were.
They had an otherworldly force behind their music, was it just love?
This just happened.

It's like the band that invented "going viral" is still going viral. Not to mention there is a good chance John is the 1st original troll. Just research "I Am The Walrus". John knew exactly what he was doing.
Golden Slumbers is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
So good the great jazz guitarist George Benson covered it, rare for George, but it spoke to him.

John always talked the medley down in later interviews. I'm thinking it's because it was mostly Paul and George Martin's idea
@@strangebrew1231 Exactly, but please give Paul his due, it was mostly Paul, his idea, his arrangements, thx.
The ending of Abbey Road is the greatest ending of an album - and an incredible poetic end to the GREATEST band ever!
True
And to think that it was mostly made up from leftover songs that they couldn't really finish. Loads of people say this is their favourite album becuase of this medley.
Incredible drums
They were the most important musical band in ROCK
listen to George Harrison’s guitar work on don’t let me down.
Ringo's versatility is shown in this medley! 🎶👍😊👍🎶
The art of writing to a song
He's no virtuoso
But he doesn't have to be - that's were his critics' go wrong. They expect him to be a technically brilliant drummer - he, instead, plays to the song. His writing sensibilities are first and foremost in service to the song he's playing. That makes him brilliant in my book.

Well there is other great music 🎶 too. The Who "Won't get fooled again" or pinball wizard that deaf dumb and blind kid can sure play a mean pinball 😅
@@ClaySanford-e8oDid the Who come out today?
better than ALL music of today. not even close
I just returned from London and went to Abby Road. It was amazing my dream of walking across Abby road just like the beatles. Very emotional a band you grew up with listening too. So much history their. I would highly recommend it. The best band ever!
Thank you Beatles for enriching our lives forever
Such a privilege
My daughter who is now 33 years old have parts of this sung to her at bedtime for years. It was the most enjoyable part of my day! Oh, and by the way she is a huge Beatles fan❤
You raised her well
Like she had a choice.
when my daughter was in the womb, I would tell her about Mozart and the Beatles.
Absolute magic! I was a teenager in the 60's - the Beatles played the soundtrack to my adolescence.
❤ me too
Of the many hundreds of different albums I have, by many different artists, the Abbey Road medley has always been my favourite. It was the Beatles' finale, and they went out in unsurpassed style and grandeur. ❤
😢😢😭😭😭😭😭
For me the most poignant timeless piece of music ever ,total game changer in music history, maybe im biased ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You're not bias. You are absolutely correct.
@@dennywright4385 🙏 thanks
The bass is so exquisite… I’m crying softly.
The name Scott represents The Secret Code Of Time Travel. The code is 5 minutes too, 5 minutes after, each end of the cross. Whenever you LEAVE or ARRIVE it will always Match, Watch.
Yeh Paul, could play! Nearly invented Pop playing. See ABBA’s session guys
One of the most beautiful medleys in the history of Pop / Rock made so far. Nothing to add.
As much as I love many of their early stuff, this one stands together with a hand full of others from their MMT and SP albums at the top of the heap.
@@musiccollector you see i hadnt listened to MMT in such a long time i had kind of disregarded it and considered the white album and revolver far superior but just listened to it again and instantly reconsidered, its hard to think of my top 5 all time albums without about 4 beatles records! a radiohead record just about sneaks in
Total genius - it was never going to get better than this .....
In my humble opinion, Sun King is the best harmonic song in existence
And " because", song.
@@MentoringMetodologico "Humble" key word.
and to think that the same eccentric, opinionated, extroverted, oddball, genius, wrote it, and Because for the same album. They were all freaks of nature.
I think 'Because' is exactly that.
Weird considering the song Because is on the same album
