First Time Here?
Thanks for being here. I know your time is valuable, so I'll keep it short. I own a company called 4LC Studios. I do video production (weddings, commercial, and anything else that grabs our attention). This youtube channel and everything I post is about the journey. I love sharing what I'm learning, how I'm growing, and how I'm failing. I hope you'll follow my journey and be a part of the conversation.
Yes, I've been waiting. Awesome Scott!! - Damian
I always find myself coming back to these behind the scenes videos! I like these long edits.
I commented yesterday on your 2017 full wedding day video, but wanted to add another thanks. Being a rather sentimental Pisces and a big sap when it comes to weddings I am captivated by the beauty and emotion you convey in your wedding videos. Similarly to the way you first felt about this field, I feel drawn strongly towards making this my main business, along with headshots and corporate video production. You have a unique way of personalizing each video so that no two are similar. Just lovely work, and your other videos on the business and organizational sides of the field are especially valuable to me, so thanks again and again ; )
thank you Scott for sharing core details.
Great breakdown of the ceremony. It's so great watching both of you guys synchronized like a watch.
Thanks.
Ok this was amazing. Might be the best BTS I've ever seen man. Looking forward to seeing the next episode!
Thanks. Hope you got a chance to watch the other longer one.
Your RUclips channels are very inspiring that’s why I’m always back to watch it, love your work the Hollywood style filming is what makes your wedding videos so awesome thank you I Learned a lot today.
So glad it was helpful.
Looking forward to episode 2!
Love this so much bro! Thank you!!! Shooting my first wedding in September! All the information you give helps so much!
So glad to hear it’s helpful.
I love those behind the scene...Keep them coming!
Will do
Bom demais Scott! Loved it!
New to your channel, Scott, and absolutely love it. I loved WFS so really excited that you're taking over. You seem like such a cool dude and a professional so looking forward to keeping up with your awesome work!
Thanks a lot for the kind words. Excited for what’s coming with WFS as well. Thanks for following my journey.
This was great! I wish stuff like this existed back when I was starting out. Thanks for putting this together!
Would love to see the final trailer edit on this to see how you used your shots!
None of this existed when I started either so that’s part of why I create it. If it helps people, that’s awesome.
Awesome Video. Really appreciate the amount of time and work it takes doing a bts on top of shooting a wedding!
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
besat tutorial you can get for everyone. Thank you so much for this one.
"My head is shining brightly" HAHAHAHA
Your wedding films look absolutely stunning! I am amazed at the beauty you capture, and the skill and effort and time you put in to make these videos excellent. I would love to try wedding videography, as it's always something I have been interested in. Your behind the scenes videos are excellent too and you explain everything so well. Most impressed!
Thanks for the kind words.
Love when you show us your behind the scene special wedding, keep going man, you make me dream !
Glad you like it.
I've got so many issue with the light on the GH5 at 3200 iso, i saw you 've got the GH5's, definitely the best deal with the Zhiyun ? Or should I invest more on lightning ? Thank for answering my question. Kiss from France.
Always invest in lighting because it helps overall regardless of the camera. With that said, the GH5s is definitely a low light upgrade.
Dude thank you so much. I do real estate videos and I’ve been ask to do a wedding. This video is golden.
Awesome. Glad it was helpful.
You do a really great job doing these BTS videos! They are most helpful! Thanks.
Glad to hear. Thanks for the feedback.
So cool to watch.
Thanks for watching.

So glad it’s helpful.
Great video, enjoy your channel and watch it always the day of.
Thanks so much.
Great, I loved this one :)
Glad to hear.
I like that you're giving the crane a chance over the glidecam
Yup. Lots of chances. Not for long though. More info soon.
I am learning a lot!
Nice! Loved this episode, with the voice-over and multi-cam in post production!
I will leave you down there the main differences between this specific wedding and the ones we usually have here in Italy :-)
- The entire bride prep looks exactly the same
- During the first part of ceremony, when the couple walks down the aisle, photographers don't wait at the top of the altar with the groom, but they usually walk backwards... blocking completely our back shot and front shot. Using an a6300 on a gimbal fixed part of the problem for me, since I'm always in focus, plus... the photographer is not in my way all the time
- After the ceremony, the couple stays inside the church to sign legal documents, while everyone goes outside waiting for them with the "throwing rice" tradition (as a sign of good luck)
- Before leaving the place, friends and family members kiss the couple on cheeks 2-3 times, to wish them luck
- The exterior shots in the crowded park before reception, looks the same
- While you were setting up lights or audio, we usually have to shoot details of the buffet (but maybe Pablo was doing that)
- HAHAHA loved when you were dancing with the Crane 2, I look the same as well HAHAHA
- In the "official entrance" with the dance, our photographers are definitely more in the way
- We rarely have speeches
Overall, I really want to keep your nerve next season! I tend to be way more stressed :-)
Can't wait for the next BTS!
I love my country. Lol
ahaha
Lots of inspiration.. Thank you. ;)
Gad to hear
I recently got a drone to take aerial shots and panoramic now all I need is a nice camera so I can take photos for different companies or wedding venues as yourself
So interesting and impressive. I've watched 1 or 2 of your BTS wedding episodes before (the one that comes to mine is the solo outing you had---I think that was my first video of yours I ever saw). Not saying you invented the idea, but I've never considered the earbud/walkie-talkie idea. Fantastic.
Most useful thing on a wedding day.
Except, of course, for Pablo, right? :-)
Exactly.
Hey Scott, great work and great videos, it's very helpful to see your though process throughout the wedding flow. I was thinking about getting a Torch LED light. Could one be sufficient in lighting subjects, similar to your setup, for the reception or is 2 absolutely necessary?
Hard to say. Depends on the room, the distance from the subject, and other variables. I like 2 for extra power and it's been awhile since I've used one. If the room is super dark, it makes a big difference even with just one but if the room is fairly lit, one doesn't make much difference.
you should add the lens you used and settings! love the bts
Way to much work unfortunately. Not to mention it's not possible to look back at the settings after it's shot.
I love to see this BTS videos! Wich is the price of your work in your country? In Spain is about 1500-2000€ more or less
very helpful. thank you
So glad to hear.
Hey Scott, will you upload the final video at all? Really interested in seeing how you place all the clips together while keeping narrative. Great vid as always :D
Yup once it’s all complete, I will put the link in the description. It should be done in a couple weeks.
Well done. Your have a great second shooter, btw.
Correct.
so i dad okay im only going to watch 10min welp finished the whole video. very engaging
Glad it was helpful.
Thank you so much for an informative video Scott! And I must say when I look at the bts that you work extremely professional and that you nail those shots in the church with perfect timing is just amazing👌 Just a technical question: How do you do to not lose focus on the people walking up the aisle? You set the focus and then what? Use a deeper depth of field? It wouldnt be possible as it's already pretty dark in there.. Or do you just set focus and let them walk "out of focus"? It's really hard to see on such a small screen if they're in focus or not but I would love to know how you handle that.
Thank you again
Thanks for the kind words. All manual focus and just practice.
Hi Scott, Amazing work BTW! and hi from the UK.
Quick question around your focus settings.
1. are you always on manual focus? even when you are using a gimble and just set a high F-stop?
2. do you use tracking focus when doing the walking shots of the bride and groom coming down the aisle?
Thank you for all the help and inspiration you provide!
Always manual focus.
👍
Great video! Thanks for doing this effort.
I have one question... If u understand, usually you have a stand-alone camera on a tripod on the right side. While the vows, it does focus automatically or how you doing this? And if it’s on the right side, you are in the center with monopod and gimbal?
The cameras are all on manual focus. The camera on the right is tighter but maintaining focus is no problem as they aren’t moving.
@6:10 Scott droning like a boss
I love flying.
That 240 @18:10 is phenomenal!
Hi Scott, really helpful video thank you for sharing, quick question do you need to obtain a permit from the city to fly the drone over buildings and streets? Thanks again
I’m a part 107 pilot yes.
what kind of communication devices do you use? Awesome vid!
Thanks. Check out my kit page. Link in description.
The reception hall is the one used in Wolf of Wallstreet (Lamborghini scene)? What IFB and 3 axis steadicam are you using?
Not sure if it’s the same one or not. I use the crane 2.
Which lights are those that you control with a remote?
Hey Scott! This was so helpful! Especially for my wedding tomorrow. My question is, you mentioned this couple is also getting a doc edit. What all do you include in the doc edit for the final product?
Polished raw footage basically. Everything cleaned up, edited better than it would have been raw on an external hard drive.
Thank you!
Hi Scott,
Great channel! Would you tell me what monopod you're using?
Kit.com/scottwmckenna
Noticed you're using the GH5S for gimbal work. Still using the A6500 for any of your gimbal work? Thought the autofocus was the main draw for the A6500. Always enjoy your BTS videos!
No more a6500. Don't even own one any more.
Wow. What a ingredible skin tones.!!! Scott do you still use this your old customized profile CineD:
-4 contrast, -5 sharpness, 0 noise reduction, -3 saturation, 0 hue?
No I don't. I've changed. I'll do an update soon.
Scott McKenna Wow. Thank you. I looking forward for this:)
Great video! How do you handle the noise problems on 240 FPS? I shot outside with my gh5s and no matter what it comes out insanely grimy with harsh horizontal noise patterns. Might’ve been that I was in v-log but I don’t think that when I tried it in natural it looked much better. Who knows maybe I just have a bad copy? Any thoughts?
You need a lot of light for 240fps because the shutter needs to be super high so the iso does as well.
What is the temperature of your light during reception? Cheers great job !
The torchled’s don’t show a read out in terms of kelvin, but we had them at the warmest light available.
Hi. Very good job. Can you say your average salary for wedding films?
Thanks
Scott, when do we get to see the final version of one of your weddings?
They are all on vimeo.com/4lcstudios or RUclips.com/4lcstudios
Thanks man. You should drop that in your description :)
Hi Scott, quick question, are you always in manual focus? I've got my first wedding video coming up in 3 weeks, you have given me the confidence to do it but i'm still a bit nervous!
Always manual focus yes.
Watching this before going to shoot a wedding lol
Awesome. Have a great wedding.
When in post what type of music do you use for the video? Suggested songs or custom music?
We choose music. Mostly from musicbed.
also, what do you use to mount two torchLEDs? Ever think about practilites? I'm using one torch and two boltzen but may upgrade to practilites
I have a dual stand mount. It works great, I’ve been very happy with them.
Wondering when using the gimbal you are using autofocus on the gh5s? If you are what focus settings?
No Autofocus. All manual.
Hi Scott, great video. I thought you always shoot the weddings by yourself and I was very curious as to how you handle that with 3 cameras. I see this time you shot it with Pablo´s help. Do you shoot them yourself but always go with an assistant for help on lighting, audio and moving things around (Pablo in this case) and sometimes a second shooter and he/she help with those things too? I am very interested in how you handle weddings were you shoot only by yourself.
I’ve only shot two solo weddings in my career. All weddings are shot with 2 cinematographer
thanks for the reply Scott. I've been checking various wedding filmmaker's youtube channels + websites and I confused another website's about section with your youtube channel. In that other website the filmmaker says in his about page he does 90% of his weddings by himself with 3 cameras. By the way, great idea using a wifi app to check de safe camera (just checked your new video at wedding film school) I'll look if my SL2 can be controlled via some canon app since that's my safe cam.
Hi. I have a gh5s and use a fieyu tech a2000 gimble. I see you use the buttons on the gimble to start and stop recording, did you have to set the camera up to us the button to record or did it just work out the box? Thanks :-)
You just plug in the cable.
I have been wanting to get into photography business myself ever since I've been watching your videos I am now starting to do that
Awesome.
Scott McKenna but I'm still deciding of what my first camera should be. Should it be and Canon or a Nikon I was thinking of the Canon Rebel series or a rebel T6 or one of the smaller cameras for Nikon what do you think I should get
The best one you can afford.
If you’re planning on doing video, don’t go Nikon.
Scott McKenna oh ok cool thank you and what about just regular photos
So for walkie talkies, do you use them to communicate during the ceremony as well? if so, how do you do it quietly?
Yes during the ceremony is one of the biggest perks and because we have earpieces, no one hears the communication except us. It works great.
You said in a previous bts that you don't use an ND filter, correct? The scene of them outside at 16:00 has both them and the background in exposure. So i'm guessing you just cranked the shutterspeed?
Just cranked shutter speed.
thx bro
What light is that
Hello scott; can you tell me what was your iso for the church? And what's your higest iso that you use for low light church? Thanks for your help
Can't remember sorry. I never go above like 1,600 iso.
Scott McKenna thanks a lot really appreciate your help.
Hey Scott thanks for the videos. I have been getting clients asking for raw footage. I just ask them to bring external to drop. What do you think?
Do whatever you think is best.
Scott McKenna thanks
Damn. looks like a hell lot of work. And I wanted to make weddings as a lone shooter. How long does it take you to edit such a movie? cause in the end you have lots of footage.
Depends on the length of the film. A day or two.
@@scottmckenna wow.... You amaze me. I would tale like three to four days. I believe. I admit that i would lile to go and shoot weddings but i have only one camera and i am alone. Seems like big and hard deal. I lile the way you handled all of it. Very professional.
Thanks for this bts video! You said the couple is getting a 5-8 minute video and a doc edit. How long was the finished Doc edit? And did the doc edit include the ceremony and speeches etc... from beginning to end? Did you post the doc edit on mediazilla as one long piece or did you break it up in sections? Thank you!
It’s not done yet. This just happened Saturday. But the doc films can be anywhere from 90 minutes or more. It’s full ceremonies, speeches, dances, etc.
I post the whole thing on mediazilla and then chapter markers In mediazilla indicate certain spots.
Thanks! What other editing options do you offer in addition to the 5-8 film and doc edit? And I think you said in the past that the base package is a full day of shooting and a 5-8 min film? Do you think it would work for you and the clients to offer as a base package of all day shooting and a doc edit and have the 5-8 film be an add on?Your channel and podcast are great!
I don’t want the doc edit to be something people get and then have the option to add on the 5-8. The doc films are a non creative, more documentary style film and not the ones that are going to be watched and shared for years to come. We want people getting our best feature films and then they can add on longer doc films on top of that.
please also put your final video. I mean after editing video.
Which lens you using on the gimbal for inside church shots?
12-35
What was the light that was being used when you were filming the dress at the beginning?
torchled. kit.com/scottwmckenna
Scott McKenna I need! Haha 😂
Hi Scott are you doing SDEs? (Same Day Edits)
No
Do you think 3 or 4 camera men is necessary to shoot a wedding? or just 2 camera men like you do?
Is your bts guy helps as an assistant sometimes or does he just do the bts for the entire wedding?
Depends on the type of weddings and how you choose to do it. I think 2 is good for what we do mostly but 3 is useful in certain times of the day.
Bts helps as an assistant as well yes.
How did you get 240fps on the GH5 Scott?
240fps on the GH5s. 180 fps on the GH5
Hi did you use the autofocus?
No.
do u give just little highlights to clients or full video of ceremony too edited.
Depends what they pay for.
Do you need a business license to fly with the inspire in this area?
You need a part 107 license to fly anywhere commercially
4:12 DEMONETIZED!!! 😂
LOL.... I heard that also..
what walkie-talkie model you are using?
We just recently got rid of the set that we are using in this video. Once we change to the new models, I’ll update my kit page. Kit.com/scottwmckenna
tks
Would you guys be okay if I tag along for a few days and learnt how to do video photography I definitely what dress will I'm Italian male living in Virginia that wants to make it in the industry doing wedding video photography God bless you
I heard that you sold gh5s an buy a6500 for movies
or You have both ?
You heard wrong. I bought a6500s awhile ago but did not get rid of the GH5. I got the a6500 for gimbal work. And since that time, I’ve sold the a6500s as well.
you need a video from your headphones and walky talkys
Buut your the best
