First Time Here?
Thanks for being here. I know your time is valuable, so I'll keep it short. I own a company called 4LC Studios. I do video production (weddings, commercial, and anything else that grabs our attention). This youtube channel and everything I post is about the journey. I love sharing what I'm learning, how I'm growing, and how I'm failing. I hope you'll follow my journey and be a part of the conversation.
I’ve been keeping up with your uploads but I always love coming back to these videos. I’m a 19 year old photographer/videographer. Young and learning. I love these videos because not only do I learn from them, but I get this feeling of reassurance, and this build up of confidence. I don’t have a mentor, nor have I been able to connect with one. Having these job shadow videos to look back on is awesome. Hope you do more bts in the future but for the meantime, I’m loving your recent stuff 👊🏼
I love all your behind the scenes videos. 👍
Glad to hear.
Saw the 2nd shooter BTS on Wedding Film School, then found out you do your own BTS videos also. Been watching endless BTS Wedding videos as I have my first wedding in July (lock-down changes depending), so your content and theirs has been really helpful and is lowering my concerns and worries.
I recently started doing wedding films solo and the hardest part right now has been getting to the ceremony with enough time to set up. I have been leaving the bride prep once she puts on her wedding dress to get those last shots but then I end up rushing to the ceremony and don't have much time to get establishers there etc. Anyways thank you for all your behind the scenes! i always learn something new and congrats on taking over wedding film school!
Yup, Solo is hard nothing else to say about it. It's difficult. At least get an assistant as soon as you can.
Great behind the scenes. Could you talk about your walkie setup to communicate with ur second shooter in a future video
Sure
Scott McKenna hi Scott, I’m following you for about 6 month now and I really like your bts videos.could you make a video about how do you setup your walkie talkie as I have purchased one that you use and having difficulties to setup.
These videos are super helpful! Awesome work and great job
Glad to hear. Thanks for the kind words.
Thanks for the BTS work Scott! Not having done a wedding yet, this is super helpful. And all the helpful tips you sprinkle throughout.
Awesome. Glad it helps.
really nice BTS. Kraig Adams style, that's what I like and that's what I'm sure everybody likes. Very informative since we see you troubleshoot "life".
Thanks. Glad you liked it.
Another awesome BTS, and I think this is the best "solo" BTS you've done!
Thanks Chuck. It was a lot of work haha.
Thanks for uploading these bts videos man. They are super helpful in helping us see the logistics in how you set up shots.
So glad they are helpful. Thanks.
One wedding I filmed the pastor communicated that he HATED camera's floating around during the ceremony. It sounded like there was one particularly obnoxious videographer he dealt with in the past. Since I'm a one man band anyway, I just camped out in a pew as far up and to the center as possible with my monopod. I was able to get everything I needed and he praised me afterwards.
That was a great bhs. Can't wait for the wfs stuff should be awesome. I think you guys will be good with wedding film school.
Thanks for the kind words.
Scott in Brazil we don't have that time to shoot reception details without anyone in the room. They go from the church right in to the party. No empty space to shoot. Different cultures.
Definitely different for sure. That's unique and not easy I imagine. There are some US venues that they go straight to reception, but not always.
Nice Vlog Scott! keep more vlog about this! watching from philippines! im amazed all of your vlogs specially like this kind videos.. godbless and full support! ♥️🙏
These videos are so inspiring! Scott you and Pablo are such a great team!!! If you are ever in California i would love to meet you guys!
Thanks for the kind words. We love doing what we do.
Happy to see you practicing your ABCs - "always be charging" hahah
Always.
Hey Scott, you really have to try that Zhiyun SINGLE handle grip (L shape) - the one that just goes off to the right.
I see in your raw footage with it - I see what happens to me. I LOVE this gimbal too but it really does handle weird on the stock set up. It's an awkward range that forces your hands to be apart and shift the counter-force in a not-so-intuitive way.
The L bracket handle solves that awkward distance on the X axis of the operator's hands. It just feels so good - and it allows you to bring the whole thing closer to your body to conserve energy, as well as hey, you get to mount optional accessories.
My first wedding video will be up in about a month - and I can't wait to give back to YOU, and really spank it with this gimbal.
Thank you for all that you do.
I don’t own it anymore anyway. I now have the Ronin S. Destroys the crane 2
love this man! soooo helpful please keep them coming!
Glad it was helpful.
The little boy @ 24:05!!!! Priceless!!!
Love the Speeches struggle! I face this more times than not. The person giving the toast always wants to be next to the B&G and seems like it always takes some convincing to get them to face the couple instead.
Yup
Ha, she started to tell you about how videographers use their video lights..I love using my hive wasp 100-c's for the reception/speeches. But every wedding someone makes a issue about my lights.. One time they had the bride come up to me to see if I would turn off my lights cause it was making everyone hot..Then I explained to the bride how they were leds and put off no heat . lol
No one complains about my lights. They love it once I set it all up.
Some one always seems to get annoyed..They don't understand how important it is for the film..smh
Love the BTS videos! Great work :)
Thanks. Glad they are helpful.
I’m going to do my second wedding in a month. I already own a GH5 (thanks for the inspiration), but I’ll probably rent an “S” as well for low light. What’s a good lens to use while using a gimbal with autofocus? Any advice would be appreciated😀
No lens is good with autofocus on GH5. But I like a 35mm for gimbals.
Ahhhh my favourite kind of video Scott!!! Amazing as always 😊
Thanks Sara. You should do one.
That's an interesting idea! I just had 3 weddings in a row (friday, saturday, sunday)...and one of those was canadian (and outdoor). What a blast audio-wise! I got the chance to finally manage good quality audio with XLR switchers and external recorders. Can't wait to put my hands on the film and to actually show you the result!
You should document your journey more. Just saying :).
🤯Getting SO MUCH VALUE out of this content!!✌️
So glad to hear
Hi Scott,
Just wantednto ask about the lights you had from this wedding video 22:57. What are those lights? Brand and model? Its nice that it has remote so that you dont need to go and grab them then turn it on when you need it. You just click the remore and turn it one where you at right?
Thank you Scott for shring this video and this helps me understand how to film weddings.
More Power to you Scott
JUST WOW. LOve BTS vids. you seem to have everything under control
Thanks for the kind words. You do everything you can to be as prepared as possible so sometimes things happen so it's about adjusting. The wedding business is a great place to learn how to troubleshoot on the go.
i have to say mate, i love the way you go about your craft. Im not a photographer, and im only a hobby dronist and vlogger from Aus, but i really enjoy your content and Faith. Keep it up.
Glad you're enjoying it. Really appreciate you watching.
have been soooo eager for this :D
Hi Scott. I understand. Maybe you can mention it sometimes during filming. Thanks for the quick reply and keep up the good work. Love it!
I'll definitely keep it in mind. Thanks for the feedback.
i love your vids! What music do you play behind the video? Greetings from the Netherlands!
One thing I have realized is that you have to broadened your area, I think about doing weddings locally and should consider ALL locations with x number of miles.
This has been such an education for me! Although my company doesn’t do weddings, you have been such an inspiration for me and my team and my company! You and Pablo (yes I subscribed to his channel, too!😀) are so much fun to watch, and seeing your faith from both of you inspires me and strengthens me to continue not only with my walk with The Master, but continue on in patience with my business! I just wanted you to know how much of an influence you have, and I haven’t missed an episode! Love you guys and God bless! Hope to hear from you!
Raeann Jones, CEO/Owner, Rhythmwerxs Productions
PS: Those shots with the GH5s were amazing! Would love to see what you would do with the Blackmagic 4K Cinema Camera when it finally drops, and you and Pablo’s thoughts on it!
So glad to hear it's been helpful.
This is very helpful, Great work!
Glad to hear.
Scott, you're making better bts than some other guys !
It will be awesome if you share more bts wedding videos!
Thank you! I've learned a lot from you!
Thanks. Visit my other channel RUclips.com/WeddingFilmSchool
Great BTS video! I have a kind of broad question, and have wondered this on other American wedding video BTS stuff (I'm a videographer in Scotland) - what is going on at the reception while you are testing lights, etc with Pablo? Are schedules very different? As over here we have a 2pm ceremony, sit down speeches for about 4.30pm/5pm, meal and then first dance at 8pm, and that's the regular kind of schedule in the summer.
The time you are testing lights I think I would be out getting candids of the drinks reception and couple shoot, so I just wondered how things run. I know this is a Greek wedding so might run differently, but how does it regularly go for you? Thanks!
First of all, love all your videos Scott! You're extremely kind for sharing all this knowledge! I'm trying to gear up to film my first wedding in a few months, so I've been just cramming in as much info as I can; and probably spending way too much money in gear. :( This might be a weird question, but in these long 10 to 12 hour days, when do you get a chance to eat for yourself? Do they provide meals for you at some weddings throughout the day, like for lunch and dinner as well?
My contract requires a dinner. Lunch is on your own, and you have to do your best to try to eat whenever you can. Pack a lunch.
Very helpful man. You're the shit.
Hi Scott. I love your video's. Great work. Maybe now and then during the BTS you could give some info about the camera settings you use ? Greetings from Holland-Amsterdam:-)
I'll try. Not always easy to remember what I used.
Love all your BTS videos, Scott! Hope to see more of this content. 👍🏼 Question, what were those lights you used 22:56? I need one of those in my events.. 😊 Thank you in advance!!!
Thanks for watching. Check out kit.com/scottwmckenna
Thanks, Scott! You’re the best! Looking forward for more BTS!
@Scott Mckenna That's a great educational resource.
just a few questions, When you asked Pablo to focus the light more on the cake. I assumed he took the diffuser off the TorchLED light. Am i right?
Also, you are lighting the speech and dance floor with TorchLED, do u focus the light on the person or keep the diffuser for a flood effect? Have you considered a fresnel light for lighting dance floor?
Thanks.. You've got great footage for this wedding, cant wait for the final video.
I just uploaded a recent wedding. would love to hear your thoughts about it.
Yes, diffuser off so it's more of a spotlight. I take the diffusers off for lighting the dance floor so it's a stronger throw. with diffuser on, it's too weak.
Scott McKenna thank you.. wish b&h shipped to Mauritius..
Great video Scott! ETA for the film? Can’t wait to see it.
Just filmed it this past weekend so hopefully in the next couple of weeks.
I learn many new things from your videos love from pakistan.
Hey Scott not sure if you made a video on this topic already but I was just curious what different packages do videographers offer ? Besides the cinematography or highlight video... what else do they get?
Hey Scott - noticed you zoomed in while using the gimbal. Does this thru it out of balance at all or strain the motors?
It seems to be fine when I do it. Not sure if it’s messing anything up but I do it all the time and it seems fine.
did you do any autofocusing when using the gimbal?
Absolutely loved watching this BTS video question how does the video quality par from the Mavic pro and the Mavic air?
Glad you like watching. The Mavic Air has better image quality than the Pro. Higher quality codec in 4K, and an absolutely noticeable difference. I can say that with confidence since I did a lot of flying with the mavic pro
Thank you for setting up a path for me to walk and try.
I want the sparks too. Do the bride apreciate the shots with the drone or They just dont CARE? Thanks. @walocortes
Great video! When you set an unmanned camera, do you use auto focus or manual focus?
Always manual
@@scottmckenna Thank you! What aperture would you use? I'm concerned about things getting out of focus.
So when you zoomed in on the table during the B-Roll segment, did that mess with the crane's motor or balance at all? Do you find that you can kind of zoom in and out within reason without issue?
No. Seems to work fine. I do it a lot.
wait, you can zoom the gh5 with the crane2 ?
Hi Scott!
Thanks for the BTS!
Please name the app you use at 18:36
I don't see in the description.
tave.com/join/4lcstudios
How fast you are! :) Thank you!
Do you weigh that lightstand down? Or is it just that stable?
Stable. The light weighs nothing.
Thanks, Scott. Great work.
Scott! How are you controlling your torchled 250's with a remote? Can you advise?
It comes with a remote, and you can control the lights from the remote. That's all.
Lovely. Did u just mic up the photographer for clear audio? at 19:42
Nope. That's just being recorded from my Countryman B3. Leveled in post.
@@scottmckenna nice
What’s on your ear? I know it’s some sort of communication devices but I don’t know what is it called?
Walkie Talkie.
Hi Scott Im filming Slovak weddings and im wondering how much time for prep venues you guys have and what guest are doing during that time ?
In ours weddings ppl go straight from ceremony to venue and we have like 5-10 min :D
We spent usually 15 minutes or so getting shots of the empty venues. It all depends what we need to shoot.
Scott McKenna Yes it is same for me, but i mean about guests, i did film wedding in London and there was 1:30 time window, so im wondering how it is usualy in US. wedding film school BTS it looks long too . Im just wondering :)
Led light you used for
Do you shoot in 4K and down sample to 1080 or do you just shoot in 1080?
I shoot everything in 4k. Deliver in 1080 mostly.
What accessory did you put on the light stand to be able to put two lights on one stand?
People always ask that. Unfortunately it's not just one unit and I forget what the individual pieces actually are.
Can you so me how to edited what software you you used
Hey Scott, have you ever done a same day edit wedding?
Do you have a questionnaire you send the bride and groom before the wedding? What types of questions do you ask?
Yes. It's send to the couple one month before their wedding and gives me all the info I need for the entire wedding day. Locations, Times, Vendors, etc.
how delivery the videos to the clients? USB OR DVD
Can I know about led lights. And I like your work is nice and inspiration for me thank you
Gear link in description.
Can u share us the full video of the wedding scott?
This was just filmed this past weekend so not for a bit.
hello i need to sharpen my skills can i visit in three one of a wedding
i can send some which i have done
Hi Scott, have you problem with the glasses for the focus on the screen or with the viewfinder in the Gh5 o Gh5s.?
Nope
Do you use only screen?
The gh5 has a diopter in the viewfinder. You can adjust it to whatever works for your eyes / prescription.
Jameson Gibson of course but is not confortsble keep the glasses to see in the viewfinder!!
GIANNI PAOLELLA do you put your glasses on top of your head when you look through the viewfinder?
Thanks
Greek Wedding nice :) BTW Great work
Thanks.
Ελα ρε
What light stand were you using?
Kit.com/scottwmckenna
do you use peaking?
Yes
Did you return your Canon M50?
Returning it. I used it on this BTS though.
looking horrible
What kind of church was this? Orthodox?
Yes
Great video, again :) Nice job!!
Scott, what colour is your shirt? 😀
It's like Grayish,Tanish,not white
Scott McKenna thanks 👍
What’s the 90 degree rule
Do you find it rude when a photographer uses their flash during one of your shots, especially because 95% of the time they can see that you are busy... especially when you have a light on a Pablo stand hahaha
A little. Lol. But it is what it is. It’s only really frustrating to me when they clearly don’t need the light.
Nice car
I am a professional wedding videographer
