Who else started out filming weddings? Great place to start and learn 🙌
Started because of you and Peter. HUGE thank you to you both
Started out filming weddings, and through many odd turns of events, am back re-learning wedding filmmaking! I've really enjoyed the freedom of the "Featurette" style that is popular right now, such as Matt Johnson, White In Revery, etc!
I did two years ago
Matti Haapoja 🙌🏻👊🏻
Yes yes! 5 years ago! Thanks for all you teach Matti!
I filmed 2 weddings and man did I learn a lot! I also have a tip for all of you, whenever you’re making some shots like someone putting makeup on a bride or just B-roll in general, record for at least 20-30 seconds. Too short of s footage will make your editing a lot harder, and I obviously learned this from experience!
Can you please tell me what to shoot in weddings how long video because I am from Pakistan here wedding is totally different
great tip !!
@@atlasabdullah getting ready, bride and groom portraits, first look, bride and groom with the bridal party, bridal entrance, during the ceremony some shots of the audience, bride and groom from different angles, rings exchange, vows, the kiss at the end ant the exit. During reception the grand entrance, speeches, toasts, first dance, cake cutting, dancing, bouquet toss, close ups of people emotions/expressions during speeches. Also decoration and some shots of the venue or location. Did I miss anything?
@@Sacrengard This!!!!
Hey Matti, from one Toronto videographer to another, great video and tips! Weddings are a great way to learn but also awesome for experienced pros. 20 or so weddings a year pays our mortgage/bills, allows us to have a crazy good work/life balance and more importantly gives us 4-5 months a year to develop our own films. Oh and there's lots of opportunity to travel to some amazing places as well!
These were very helpful, Matti! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with wedding videography.
I recently got into it myself, and it's been quite the experience. I'm really enjoying the journey.
Keep it up!!!
Thanks, Matti! This video was so helpful. I'm just starting in the wedding cinematography and already have few weddings. The tip that you said about the suspense with not showing the wedding couple fully dressed in the beginning is so good. Gonna use it from now on!
You should make "History of Matti's film career" a thing!
So great to see where other creators who are littlebit futher in their career are coming from! Love to hear these stories. Super inspiring and interesting!
Haha yea that’d be fun!
Finally! This is the thing that I've been waiting for so long, idol Mattih! 😊 thank you so much for sharing your techniques! ❤️
Such a helpful Video! Thanks Matti. Im just starting out shooting wedding films in Hawaii. I haven't done a single one yet, but I made an ad and waiting on calls! Finally taking that step!
Been looking into lots of informational videos like this and yes I watched your brother's video as well. Keep up the awesome work on this channel! I love it!
Mattie,
Thank you for making these videos. I have no formal backround in film, editing, or imagery. I made my first vlog and have been trying to follow your techniques. I have just recently started and got my camera on sept 20th. I really really appreciate all the time you put into your videos.
Your wedding filming advice was the original reason why I grew onto your channel. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏽
🙌🏻
Good tips Matti. Doing weddings makes me nervous, I fear I will miss something that was so important to the new couple or that my footage will be subpar. Although the ones I've done everyone has been happy with I still have that fear / worry! Like everything else I imagine you probably get more confident and comfortable the more you do but I think that's what's kept me from doing more than I have done. Thanks for the tips.
great video matt just started filming weddings i maybe left it late in life at 39 now but i'm having fun doing what i always loved now and getting to meet all kinds of lovely people and sharing their intimate moments so i wouldn't change it for the world
*Such* a good one Matti! I’m about to start doing some wedding cinematography on the side and this _couldn’t_ have come at a better time! Thank you *thank you* *_thank you_*
So good! Best of luck 😊
YES, Matti! Thank you for sharing your experience! I love this stuff, it helps put this into perspective for me.
🙌🏻
If you're awesome to work with, people will recommend you, too. Make friends with and shoot the venue staff, florist, makeup artist, and photographer doing their things. Send them a short clip of their work that day, and if they're good people too, you can bet they'll recommend you to clients, too.
thanks thats an awesome idea
Heck yes i've been waiting for this! I'd love to see more videos like this!
Always fantastic stuff Matti! I took your cinematic wedding course and it was SO helpful in shooting my first wedding.
- Aaron
This is helpful Matti! I new to weddings and it's so overwhelming!
A wedding is a 2 or rather 3 act story building up to the climax.
The A story ist the couple and their relationship itself and the B story is accompanied by EVERYTHING else.
I highly recommend y'all to read Blake Snyder's beat sheet. It's, I can't recall it exactly, 12 to 15 nuggets of storytelling advise. With emphasize on advise.
Cheers ☕👌
Just filmed my 2nd wedding this past week. You nailed all of these tips. A7iii and sigma 24mm is my top camera lens set up for weddings.
Tip Number 8 - try to spend time knowing the family members to break the ice and the shoot location in advance if possible 😊
Thanks Matti. I wish I watched this before filming the wedding. You're my new favorite. Thanks again brother
Thanks for this im about to do my first one and I like how you put out there the 2min rule in regards to keep moving around and how to unfold the story - along with just capture all emotion!!! Much lover brother and thanks!!!
Been doing some weddings on the side for 8 years now. Not on a regular basis though but i definitely agree with everything you said. Thanks for the reminders, Matti. Always looking forward to your content
That’s awesome man!
Filming my sister's wedding tomorrow, hopefully it all goes to plan
How did it go?
@@VRcation probably not good lol
4 years later, how did it go?
Gonna shoot my first wedding in February 2020! Wish me luck 🤞🏽
How did it go?!
yeah how did it go?
I'd like to know too
great tips matti! I’ve got a few wedding under my belt now, pursing wedding photography and wedding videography in the future. 🙌🏻
Awesome 🙌🏻
I filmed two weddings in my short short career and there were so many lessons learned! I often called my style run-and-gun/casual, but in the end, I still had some sense of control, but wedding you REALLY have little control and you're so spot on about being light and flexible with how you film it. I've also shot wedding with the GH5 and the sigma 18-35 like you, what a coincidence (except not really, it's such a popular set up for good reason. Also, I know that guy at 3:19 small world. Cheers, Matti
Yea great setup and random!
Would you or Matti Happoja care to input which you'd rather shoot a wedding with, GH5 or a7iii?
I've never shot with the a7iii so anything I say about is mostly speculation. I would say the sony eco system has better low light and autofocus, but I always shoot manual for video and my sigma lens with speedbooster opened up enough for me to work fine in low light. I always preach that at a certain level of technology, whatever you're most comfortable with is the best camera
Every single one of your videos I’ve seen thus far have been extremely helpful! Thank you!!
I love you man! This was a very great video. I’m a beginner and you didn’t make me feel intimidated, everything was elegantly put. Thank you.
I have done a lot of weddings and I feel weddings are the most tough filmmaking practice. Because there is absolutely no second take. Absolutely love to challenge.
Yep great challenge to learn and get better
Hi! Do you have any suggestions for events to film that are a bit more forgiving than weddings in that sense - for those of us who aren't quite there yet?!
I’m so happy i was able to find this video again, filming my first wedding next week and i’m stressing out a little bit but thanks to these tips i will be fine 😁
Up to the next tips video for wedding videos😂
Mattie you're so right about the story telling part, I never get the back and forth style, it always seems confusing to me!
Matti Loved the review absolutely Excellent.I used to go to Weddings and for free gifts I used to buy a whole bunch of throw away Cameras and put a few on the tables as Favors so they could use the Camera so they could catch what they wanted and keep the Cameras for themselves as Memories. So I guess you can say my love of Cameras goes way back. Loved your Tips Deb.👌👍✌
Freaking loved this, great work Matti
Been doing weddings for a year, just starting to branch into corporate stuff now.
That’s awesome!
The Ronin S lasted me all day on a wedding I just shot and it was a beast!! Absolutely loved it!!
Fantastic video man. Just watched your brother’s too. Something good there in that Haapoja DNA! 🎉
dude i love these videos! Greetings from Greece Matti! You, your brother and Peter, you're all awesome!
Just wanted to say your video was very helpful to me, i filmed my first payed wedding by myself it i took your advice, it went great! Thank you, i am a huge fan of you!
Shooting my first wedding mid june. Super nervous but these tips helped a lot. Wish me luck and thanks man!
Nice, thank you. Something about avoiding over heating and video limitations ? I just got a new camera and this two things put me on the questioning if is worth doing it.
Great Tips!! Wish you made this video one month ago before I shot my first two weddings on the same weekend! I got a lot out of the experience and definitely want to do more.
Matti 'Spielberg' Haapoja, your maturity, good nature, common sense, relaxed and informative to-the-point style is to be admired.
Thanks again for another great video..
BTW, your trimmed beard and clean look (I still haven't decided on your turn-of-the-century hairstyle, LOL!) should be copied by other 'TOOB' contributors.. Bravo.!!
Your Mom & Dad must be proud.!
I do wedding photography now! BUT I can totally get how wedding videography is a great way to start video. You really have to focus on the day and create a story... So fun. :)
Love this Matti! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching dude 🙌🏻
Nice tips sir! I love shooting weddings, how I got started and I still love doing them. A great way to learn every different element of the filmmaking process.
85mm prime lens for me AAAAALLL day personally. 👍
As someone who agreed the do videography at my first wedding gig next year...this is super welcoming to see, haha!
Oh awesome good luck man!
For tip#3... a camera with custom button function helps a whole lot....👍🏽
About to film my first wedding (officially, I vlogged at a couple lol) this evening.
Thanks for sharing these tips
Hi Matti , Always impressed with your photography and film-making skills, learning a lot from you and applying it to my channel. Thanks
Ohh dude I have been searching for pro tips for wedding photography and you always gets me every single time ❤️❤️❤️
Perfect man!
This is good to know! My first wedding is posting today. Good tips to know
your tips are a reality .thanx for the share .we keep on learning
I just remembered my First wedding shoot and i have made a few mistakes like standing at just one place foooreeeveer. This was really helpful Matti. Looking forward to invest on a glidecam.
Haha yep you gotta learn fast
Ehi matti! I have more than 90 wedding every year here in Italy. I had really fun watching this video. And very much agree on the first tip! Just keep it light guys!
HAHAHA, i just remembered i have a wedding to film friday then i saw this, so funny. Thanks for the tips Matti.
JUST what i needed, thank you matti !!
Thanks dude
Great tips Matti, thanks.
I love shooting weddings.
That’s awesome man 🙌🏻
Great tips ...... Alot were straight forward But it is so good to hear the same things from different people.. Great Job of this video
Thank you
Good tips - even though I hate doing weddings I did one in my life and that was more than enough but these are tips that make for better filmmaking in some many ways
Haha yep it’s not easy or for everyone but a great proving ground
Thank you very much for the advice, thanks to the fact that it is possible to record a complete wedding with a single camera and get good shots from different angles, we could have some tips to record just one complete camera, thank you very much and congratulations for your channel
This is so relatable as I just shot my first wedding film. Unfortunately I had to do it for free because I wasn't quite confident that I would do the couple any justice as I'm using a Canon 700D :(
This inspired me to keep pushing and I will eventually get to your crisp level.
I click on your adds because it's the only way I can say thank you for the dope advice and content.
Keep pushin'
Still so good in 2021! It's been a long time between weddings, but looking forward to getting back to it!
Great tips, really made me think about my approach to weddings.
Great man. Thanks Matti 🙌🏽
Very good Matti, I was wating for It! Só much mate. Thank you
I'm going to shoot my first wedding in April. I'm super excited to do it!
Goodluck, I will too!
I did photos for one wedding and it was such an anxiety filled day! Nice tips.
Haha yep it’s tough
That’s kind of what I love about weddings, they really push you to be better in so many different areas including stress management
Just thinking about being in that position gives me anxiety. Have you filmed a wedding yet?
Man, this didn't show up in my notification... Glad I checked instagram stories... I'll never do anything like weddings, but as long as there is something to learn, I'm fascinated... Used some of your lighting tricks, especially bouncing the light(previous video). I always just had the LED pointed right at my face... Thanks for all the tips... Take it easy...
YES!!!! I LOVE WHEN TEPPO GETS INCLUDED IN YOUR VIDEOS!!! :D
Of course he’s my bro 😊
This is a great video, thank you. I wish you'd talked a bit more about how to do this SOLO. Because due to the very nature of this, it's always recommended by many that two videographers do this. But if you're doing it solo, how do you really do it? I see no way other than running to multiple points quickly in the same location and HOPE that the action you're trying to capture has not ended or drastically changed by the time you get to the second or third angle. I guess your answer to that is you recommend one guy moving around getting shots which you said at a later point in the video.
I think you’ve always done a really good job comparing gimbals to a glidecam and looking at this footage I feel like the horizon being a bit off in many shots is a bit distracting. So I think a gimbal would be the right tool for this job, but that’s just my opinion.
I thought I'm the only one who saw the horizon been way off. If that was my wedding i would be very disappointed. I would prefer still shots over bad moving shots.
Yep it’s definitely a different look.
the black bars is the problem in some shots.. without them in some shot the horizon looks ok.
Thanks Matti, I'm currently trying to get some gigs. I currently work doing content videos for social media for different brands and was looking into getting into weddings. Thnks for the tips
Excellent stuff Matti...
Very timely. I'm shooting a wedding on Saturday. Thanks!
Quality tips - can take some of these ideas and apply to photography as well
For anyone who doesn't like weddings ^^ Change your world view about them! Connect with rad souls, people who align with your visions, people you could call friends after the wedding. Every photographer/videographer I meet who 'hates' weddings, shot 4 for the wrong 4 styles of clients. Once you run a brand that connects with people you align with it's like shooting 40 weddings of all whom are your best friends forever and you get to be apart of the experince with them :) They are fun, if you run your business correctly :)
I am so happy that I joined this course!
wow...thanks for the video very helpful and informative..i do wedding film in arab country..ur tips it helps me alot! thank u soo much 😊😊
The settings thing is so true. I'm sure I could break records now shifting between 24/60/vfr on my gh5 haha. you really have to be able to nail it without thinking about it because if you stop to think you've probably lost the shot
I'd say I did all of these tips on my first wedding shoot. Came out pretty nicely.. of course could be improved it's just practicing getting those shots. My second shoot I did the same but was pretty let down by my kit in the small low lit reception, it's becoming a struggle to edit right now. But really cool video Matti, enjoyed :)
Cool man 🙏🏻
Matti! Thnx!! Filming my first wedding this friday 🙌🏼 Any tips on the 24 fps vs the slowmotion balance? When are you using which?
Whenever people are talking or there is dialogue, 24FPS. You can play that in the sequence frame rate and the audio can remain the same. For parts where audio is NOT important, shoot 60FPS/120FPS or however high you want to go for your slow mo.
@@taisonbriggs7963 top tip 👍🏾
As a wedding videographer I would love more videos like this!
Thanks for the useful tips. I will try it next time. Nice video 👍
Awesome!
I laughed way too loud at the coffee shop when Matti gave the bonus tip!! haha
Awesome video! Thanks Matti. Is there anywhere we could see one of your wedding videos?
Thanks Matti! You are the man!
Thanks dude 🙌🏻
Thanks for the tips, it helps a lot in quality production.
🙌🏻
All the elements & perspective footage together here
Just shot a wedding over the weekend and I really wish I owned a 70-200mm for the church venue. Thankfully they were really laid back so I was able to kind of hover off to the side of the altar.
I've been asked multiple times to film weddings but I never wanted to. Theses tips will help when I decide to
Couldn't be more perfectly timed thanks matti👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿
So good 😊
thank you for sharing this
Thanks so much for this! Is it possible to have a run down of the equipment? Just so I’m double sure what would be best to get. Great work! X
Shooting a wedding this weekend, I needed this hahah
Good luck and have fun!
Matti, can you make a video talking about how to make your subjects feel comfortable in front of the camera?
Come back to the wedding world!
Haha I thought I would never be back 😂
I can join! lol
How do you guys pull focus on the glidecam with the gh5? You just go manual and always keep the distance? Thanks for the answer and thanks for the content both of you are great!! :)
I think yall answered youtube fans questions on every video yall post. IS MATTI YOUR BROTHER TEPPO. OR MATTI, IS TEPPO YOUR BROTHER YALL LOOK LIKE YALL COULD BE BROTHERS. YALL HAVE THE SAME NAME LOL HAHAHAAHHAHHAHHA BINGO LOL
You high? jeeze... why the caps?
Thank you for the tips Matti, we'll be shooting our first wedding very soon :)
