I've been a female videographer/editor for almost 4 years, and I'm 22. I've done 4 races of weddings, music videos, events corporates and many more. I believe what she says is right, just keep doing what you're doing. You will improve gradually. Thank you, such an inspiring video.

Wow, fair play to her, she's very dedicated to her work. The toughest when doing weddings is not your technical skills but ability to work with people, making them comfortable. To shoot photo or video is piece of cake then.
The real question is who ever said a female couldn't prevail in the video/photo industry? Females definitely excel at wedding filmmaking. My girlfriend second shoots for me at weddings and even though she knows very little about the technical side of filmmaking, she still manages to direct the couple and get shots that I wouldn't even have thought of. Always makes me wonder why you see so many female photogs and very few filmmakers.

Thanks Jeremy for bringing this up! So many people think 1400 is a lot for this! 120 000 is only the revenue, and that is 80 days (mostly weekends too)+ editing days gone from your life. Never getting those days back. Sounds like a horror life. Her quality is already good enough, so why not position yourself as the best female wedding videographer and charge a premium? Just focus on high earning couples and bump up the pricing + add some spice in post. Suddenly you make the same money and can use those extra 40 days for something else =)

You hit on many great points here, and having a female videographer working alongside a male photographer is a win-win as a creative partnership. I would definitely take on an up and coming videographer. I've turned down a lot of work because I didn't have a dependable video assistant for that second camera. Do you like the glide-cam over the Ronin stabilizers? We use the Ronin M and it's cumbersome, what about the new single post Ronin units? Wouldn't she be better off with that? Great advantage that she's only doing 4 hours where my regular wedding day is more like 7 or 8 hours and it is certainly a test of stamina at times. Thanks again and thumbs UP, I wish her all the best!
Consider me fascinated. My gut reaction when thinking about my experience managing clients is this does not seem possible unless she books without consultations and holds no pre-wedding meetings. If people are booking her over email and she is using a good CRM that automates billing, contracts and as much communication as possible, AND her videos are basically montage music videos like the one that was shown then 80 is feasible and I commend the minimalist approach to her business. I am a photographer mainly. I shot 52 weddings last year (20 of which I also provided video via a team of shooters I brought with me). I don't know how I survived with the addition of 35 engagements, consultation meetings, pre-wedding meetings and endless phone calls and emails. Perhaps she has designed a brilliant business that is minimal in overhead and admin and high in profit. I feel like I am doing it wrong after watching this video. Food for thought and I appreciate you making it.

the words "Working together with someone and people love working with u. Don't compare yourself to others.. But compare your self to who you were yesterday and then you going to succeed" nice..
As a really small dude I feel the glidecam pain. I'm still trying to work up to being able to use one for long periods. It's great to see that she's killing it in the industry. I know a few female filmmakers, and they're awesome. I love when I can have them second shoot with me on my films, because there's just a different, awesome touch. It's always puzzled me why in the wedding industry in particular it seems like photography is female dominated and filmmaking is male dominated.
Focused Story Films Are there lighter cameras/lenses nowadays that still give pro quality? Like Sony A7iii, just for example? Or an APS-C sensor or Micro 4/3 sensor (GH5, e.g.)? Just curious why you have to strap on such a heavy rig for 4 or 5 hours when there are lighter alternatives. I’m sure there’s a good reason but I’d like to hear it from someone who actually does this.
Wow so it's not all bling in the US.... Those are the usual rates here in Europe (at least the Med. ) If you're the average+ videographer... And that 1000 price tag does have to include the photo session(s) lol...Then we have to pay more for our gear / software lol... It's just plain embarrassing!
I agree, I think have a mentor is very important! I m French, I just started videography, I just bought my first camera GH4 to start, I watch lot of tutorials from filmmakers cause I will do to do that for my job. So thank you Parker for your channel “full time Filmmaker”
@@fulltimefilmmaker yeah she definitely has to raise her prices 🙌🏻 but she has done it the right way because she's successful and loves what she does❤️
Does she make also documents from the weddings or just wedding highlights (< 5 min clips)? I kinda can't tell how she could be shooting 2 weddings a week and and on top of that be able to edit 4 videos... and still do it well (I suppose).
I am not strong at all and shake a lot when I try and use mine as well so this gives me some hope. Great work Kaylor!! "Don't compare yourself to other people's work". I really needed that as I have been getting analysis paralysis and suffer from feeling like I need a bunch of extra equipment to get anywhere. I am a FTFM member btw. Love it.
4 hours in Utah for an LDS wedding is typically the couple coming out of the temple, getting photos/video group shots of the guests and family, then going around with the couple at the temple. After that, later in the evening there’s the reception, cake cutting, dancing and the sendoff. Two hours at each section. Probably no live ceremony to deal with.
A woman has a huge social advantage in weddings, it's not a handicap in the slightest to be female in a female dominated/centered industry, the fact that people try to make a point that a "girl can do it to" is frankly insulting if you knew better.
I can’t stand directing couples on thier wedding day. It’s thier day to enjoy. As a wedding film maker myself the last thing I want to do is constantly direct couples to do certain things. Surely that’s not enjoyable for the couple. You capturing the day not making a Hollywood movie. YES it makes great video but for me that then becomes more about the filmmaker and not the couple. They have one day so I like them to enjoy it and I film it non obstructively. It must be an American thing all this directing. Other than that love the channel x
In college I used to give First Dance lessons to couples and most of them were pretty stressed out the day before or the same day because of the importance of the event; sometimes I just needed to remind them to smile; don't think Kaylor does that for every couple, some are just naturally good with camera, some need 'mentoring' , in the end they will surely forget about the 'directing part' but will definitely enjoy the video for decades.
I think it boils down to matter of opinion. If your happy to direct and the client is happy then who cares. In the uk there is a multi award winning wedding filmmmaker called Phillip white who is amazing and so discrete. Check him out.
100% agree with you. I've shot many weddings where the photographer directs the couple every minute of their day. So much to the point it wasn't even their wedding anymore, it was the photographer's. The moment is ruined when you direct them too much. Our job is to capture their day to the best of our ability, not turn it into a scripted movie.
I have to say that I have become very skeptical of online courses due to the online marketing craze...but the content in this video seems very authentic, unrehearsed and the real deal.
She mentions in a podcast that these are temple weddings so they only last 4 hours. And the photographer and videographer are not allowed inside the temple. So it's not a full day wedding like for example a Catholic wedding.
@@meldajeanphotographyfilm1767 What about the Reception? If not then not a lot of work, and how do you acheive glide cam out a temple, and what about sound? no mention with that?
Weddings are a great way for beginners to get experience and raise money for better film gear while they build up their commercial clients. Started with about 50 weddings a year, now own a RED and working my way back down to 0.
Pegleg, I have a tough sales job where I need to make lots of cold calls and send cold emails everyday. One day my boss taught me a valuable lesson...email sucks!!! Picking up the phone and talking to people is the only way to get anywhere and the more people you talk to, the more likely you are to meet one that you click with.
Hahaha this is great! I never thought myself that this was a male dominant industry. I simply liked watching videos and decided to film myself, never cared what other people thought lol.
Doing 80 weddings a year is very commendable.. However, what I really want to know is how do you handle doing 80 weddings a year with the kinds of personalities what come with weddings. Those who work weddings know what I mean.
Good thing about glide cam and camera rigs are I don't have to worry about motors malfunctioning or batteries dying out unexpectedly. With glidecam and rig, I have total control.
What do you mean male dominant? From my perspective most of my girl friends don't care... they want to be on the other side of the camera. It's only natural for it to be male dominant when more men are interested and when they look back in the history there are men all the way down, hmmm seems like I should be able to do it (a man thinks). On the other side women feel intimidated and men make it seem harder than it is (male ego, sorry about that ladies we are born with a regular one but once we start to grow it...) so yeah we are part of the problem but not the only cause.
Well I guess you could say that but I am from another country which isn't as much, still like I said it is mostly men but it's not entirely our fault. Most boys grow up wanting to be like Steven Spielberg or Martin Scorsese or Stanley Kubrick, there aren't a lot of Female Filmmakers for a girl to look up to. Growing up I always though ohhh Tarantino what a great director, I want to be like him someday. And it was okay for me to say that but if I girl said that, us boys would be like... he is a guy and you are a girl. I mean honestly I've seen a lot of work by female filmmaker and sometimes they offer a unique perspective, like men see things one way while women see it in another.. somethings I might ignore they won't etc. Anyways the video is great but I feel like "male dominant" kinda sounds scary... we could say that there is a lack of women in the field and we should do something to fix that, it sounds better to me that way. Just my opinion, I just think that male dominant puts too much pressure on women.
Yeah I get it, I feel the same way. It's just that when I meet a someone's girlfriend or girl friend in general and I start talking about filmmaking etc they seem intimidated (I mean there are those who are like, I am gonna break the chain and be a famous female filmmaker but still) most of them don't really feel like it's something women can do, honestly though I know more girls who do photography and videography than guys. Anyways I guess my point was a waste of time, it's nice to have someone enforce the idea that this isn't a gender specific job. As long you have a story teller's mind and as long as you have the knowledge (which one can get through your course) you can actually do it. I know it's silly but that's the idea I got about a ton of things after watching Ratatouille... It's not that anyone can do it, it's just that it can come from anywhere. No limits. Anyway sorry to bother you.
So inspirational love the fact you interview her. I’m myself struggling with the stigma that woman are not as good as man in this industry. And I have all the equipment I need at this point, just need a mentor!! Have to check out your site for course options.

"Dont compare yourself to other people" pretty good advice. I'm really bad at it...I find someone who is good and want to be 'that good' but comparison is the thief of joy...and its real! most of my stress is self inflected....
Haven’t watched it yet but your content is always so great Parker! Ive learned a lot from all of your tutorials. Thanks for sharing! Gonna watch this now.
"Wedding day, around four hours." Wow, I thought the time commitment would be far more. Maybe I'm thinking of the stills photographer?? Covering the bride getting ready in the morning, the ceremony, dinner, reception, the classic send-off when the bride&groom heads off to their honeymoon night....isn't that what a videographer also documents? These are all the classic elements of a wedding. I guess it's all up to a package of what the bride and/or family wants, but I'm very surprised.

@@LuisSanchez-uv7qp Thanks! Yeah :)
the words "Working together with someone and people love working with u.
It's always puzzled me why in the wedding industry in particular it seems like photography is female dominated and filmmaking is male dominated.
ahaha I totally know what you mean on the glidecam pain. Long periods of time will hurt anyone ahah
Congratulations to Kaylor for smashing it! I wish I could still do weddings but weekends are for family now. Enjoy!
Impressive. People don't even want to pay $1,000 for a 10 hr wedding in my town.😂😣 Keep doing your thing!😊
Manny De Los Santos Productions hey where u from?
@@Lauryyno Wichita, Kansas. The middle of nowhere😂
Wow so it's not all bling in the US.... Those are the usual rates here in Europe (at least the Med. ) If you're the average+ videographer... And that 1000 price tag does have to include the photo session(s) lol...Then we have to pay more for our gear / software lol... It's just plain embarrassing!
In Asia people pay about300usf wtf Asian lol
Dang I just quoted a wedding (photography) $3k and that was for a family member
Does Kaylor have a channel on here ? I know you’ve put so much time and work in and it shows. You seem so natural in everything !! So awesome !
This is inspiring. Thanks for the tips!
Shooting wedding is very hard work with Umer se responsibility. Kudos to her to be doing so many weddings a year.
Im pretty sure I can make more money doing Divorce Videos!!
🤕🤕🤕🤕
Yubilan Ottermann bahahahaha it’s called cheaters.. ur late
And perhaps there are opportunities in the underexploited field of funeral videos 😉
Oof
I agree, I think have a mentor is very important! I m French, I just started videography, I just bought my first camera GH4 to start, I watch lot of tutorials from filmmakers cause I will do to do that for my job. So thank you Parker for your channel “full time Filmmaker”
Damn! But who really wants to do 80 weddings a year?! :D
Sebastian Savoy good money
i do
Not charging enough!......for four hours?.....wow....Maybe that's how she gets clients because she is 'reasonable' LOL
Actually love this. I was a bit skeptical in getting back to videography/photography as a female but now watching her, I am inspired
That's why when you love what you were doing. May God bless you always in your career great job👍🙌
Love it.
4 hours of coverage?
ALLBEER EVRYTHING yea I was wondering the same thing
that was my first thought as well.. huuuh?
Probably involves lots of editing too even though it’s 4 hours of video.
@@adiamond3 thats pretty dope i need to get to that utah market.
She looks nice and kind... And her work is amazing!
A woman has a huge social advantage in weddings, it's not a handicap in the slightest to be female in a female dominated/centered industry, the fact that people try to make a point that a "girl can do it to" is frankly insulting if you knew better.
"Identity politics" , where it doesnt even fit lol
Gay male videographers also have the qualities of straight female counterparts but don’t always sit well with the grooms. Asked me how I know.
m5zealot how you know?
What an amazing videographer! The montage at the end of the video looked sooo good.
May I ask if she uses ND filters? In the video Parker has ND on his camera but not hers.
Ultrarmx crank that shutter 👍
Sky London that doesn't work for video....
Parker the way you use that glide cam is so tempting that I need to get one ASAP! Will join your full time course soon. Good job mate
I discover Philip White thanks to you, thank you!
Scott Wu 100% with u
I have to say that I have become very skeptical of online courses due to the online marketing craze...but the content in this video seems very authentic, unrehearsed and the real deal.
she so dang pretty!
so gorgeous!
Thank you Parker ....for introducing her.. Lot much Inspired ...All the best KAYLOR..we love You..
Damn thats a wedding every 4.5 days wth
.. her color grading is outstanding! Something I like a lot
Only one question:"How did she edit all these 80 weddings?"
We are producing 30 per year and it is sweet enough :)
She mentions in a podcast that these are temple weddings so they only last 4 hours. And the photographer and videographer are not allowed inside the temple. So it's not a full day wedding like for example a Catholic wedding.
@Alex Fang It's a couple of guys John & Nick How to Film Weddings on Instagram
@@meldajeanphotographyfilm1767 What about the Reception? If not then not a lot of work, and how do you acheive glide cam out a temple, and what about sound? no mention with that?
Weddings are a great way for beginners to get experience and raise money for better film gear while they build up their commercial clients. Started with about 50 weddings a year, now own a RED and working my way back down to 0.
damn, i emailed every photographer and videographer within 50 miles to do work for experience/tips and none respond to non pretty girls:/
PeglegMedia can you blame them ?
nope, id do the same lol
Pegleg, I have a tough sales job where I need to make lots of cold calls and send cold emails everyday. One day my boss taught me a valuable lesson...email sucks!!! Picking up the phone and talking to people is the only way to get anywhere and the more people you talk to, the more likely you are to meet one that you click with.
Shodd Sometimes the phone isn't enough , me I'd just walk in ask for the owner and sit down and talk .
There is always someone who will think you're a pretty girl, don't give up.
LOL I KNOW
Good thing about glide cam and camera rigs are I don't have to worry about motors malfunctioning or batteries dying out unexpectedly.
Also, society push women to be « just » beautiful that’s all. Only about appareance. That’s a problem too
Wow love hearing about her success!! MENTORING truly is the key! I couldn't agree more!!
WAIT YOU CAN SHOOT VIDEOS WITH SOMETHING ELSE BESIDES GH5 ? PEOPLE DO THAT ? wowww
Joke aside, cool video.
I didn't think it was possible, but apparently some people do! :O ;) hahahaha
8:40 I am barely getting into film making and this is the best piece of advice I've heard! Thank you so much for the videos Parker!!!!
That tie is real bad and
@@fulltimefilmmaker i like your tie, Parker
We're waiting, J
So inspirational love the fact you interview her. I’m myself struggling with the stigma that woman are not as good as man in this industry. And I have all the equipment I need at this point, just need a mentor!! Have to check out your site for course options.
This girl is going to blow up! Shes gorgeous and shes charging way too cheap and working way too much. Slow it down baby girl. Charge more, work less.
This's really inspiring!
I'm a female photographer & Videographer and I'm exactly the same height as you so I know the struggles and the challenges very well
I believe we ladies can put our magical touch in this industry and make a difference 💪
I'm Brazilian and I live in Utah. I love your channel. Congratulations on the job. I'm inspired by you.
Great video! I love that your courses are helping both men and women become filmmakers.
Thanks! I had given up on using a stabilizer because my arms started shaking within a minute - but seeing her do it, I’ll keep trying :) decided to sign up for FTF now
Thank goodness there are really light options like the DJI Ronin and mirrorless cameras now! I'm female (and small) and can easily hold the thing for 5+ hours.
Keep it going and PLEASE do more video of Kaylor. Seeing her do it, I believe I can do it as well. Thank you
LOVED this video! Sent it to my girlfriend before even finishing it. I'm a video producer, including weddings. She isn't but she's dabbling a little with video now. I hope this video inspires her to do more videos! Going to give the Full Time Filmmaker course a look because of this.
This is so inspiring. Her content and drive is straight fire.
i love the way you pay attention details
Savanna Lines Wedding??! Epic. Love seeing this! I'm a female wedding videographer as well living in Rochester, NY, and love seeing other ladies in the industry!
Great video! Thanks for making this. Its great to see females rocking it in the video production world. Why on earth would anyone give this video a thumbs down....honestly who does that!
Everytime I watch Peter Walback, I get inspired and wanna go back home to my home country and just film the hell out of anything.
Now thats the power of will! You go girl!! And parker is a good tutor also videographer too!
"Dont compare yourself to other people" pretty good advice. I'm really bad at it...I find someone who is good and want to be 'that good' but comparison is the thief of joy...and its real! most of my stress is self inflected....
This was a good one. Keep killin it Kaylor!
