Literally one of the most important things in wedding films, so clearly articulated and well done. Only 10k views. Every film maker should watch this. Get on your horse people!
Oh my gosh those little mics in the sleeves on the main microphone is genius and way more manageable for me as a lower budget wedding videographer. Thank you!
I am so glad there is someone else out there that uses iPhone voice memos!! I've only been in the videography gig for 8 months and my audio gear has consisted of wired apple earbuds and my iPhone 😅 honestly works super well! Also, maybe you have done this and if you have please point me in the right direction! But I would love your opinion on how to get into the wedding videography game. I have never done a wedding and honestly kind of nervous to because it is such a meaningful time in someone's life that I do not want to miss capturing especially if they pay me to. So I would love to know how you started in the wedding industry and figured out how to do what you do at the beginning. Love you HS dad! 🥰😘😉
dude you're hilarious! i'm a hybrid shooter sending love all the way from Ghana in Africa. I started using Matt's Sony mic attachment when filming weddings and it is indeed a life-saver! keep up the humour bro, peace and love.
Maan. I started following you comming from the guys at mango street channel. I am a photohrapher myself and a dad to two kids and can really relate to you and your way of making thinhs / joke. I really enjoy all the entertaining way you share skill and knowledge.
Something about those Suspenders hanging from coat hangers and you talking about Red Whips... Yes. Oh, on the topic of the video though, thank you. I am really looking forward to testing out some new audio options. I've already watched most of your videos... But I'm rewatching them because Im finally landing a couple gigs here and there, and I think it's time to start re-investing in my business, learning and overall... Myself. Doubling down. Thank you.
A good idea of having two different recorders on two separate speakers! And definitely, the elastic sleeve to go around the microphone- praise God for not using tape.
I experienced that when I plugged my zoomh4n to the other Speaker, and then the dj forget to bumped up the sound of that speaker, wasted almost 3 hours of recording with no audio in the reception. Luckily I backed it up using my sonypx240 on the emcee and other head speeches microphone(Saved my ass every time). Also Thanks for the tips about recording facing directly to speaker, I always put my Zoom in the lower part of the speaker when I should be putting it on the top to access more treble and more pleasing registry voice. Learned a lot from this, and I will definitely pick up some this advices on my future weddings. Thank you very much Eric, Keep them coming.
Great job Eric. Obviously, there are lots of options, but the thing I appreciate the most is helping everyone understand that you should always have a backup. And if you can, have a backup for your backup.
I advice when using the zoom H5 you record the audio directly from the mixer rather from the speakers, to be 100% sure of no interference and you are getting clean audio. I recorded from the speaker once don’t know what happened the audio was messed up. But never had an issue from the mixer.
Some mixer has no aux output and when they do they use weird connector and when you need to wing it, all the option you have is the xlr output of the speakers. I really hate it when the mixer doesn't have common output. But luckily I found a solution where you can record the audio without any music from the mixer, by plugging it directly to the microphones end using phantom power splitter then plugging the other output two the zoomh5, then the other output to the mixer, whatever the dj does, you will get clean audio every time with no hiccups.
Absolutely love your work and you’ve re-sparked the fire to continue chasing the dream of full-time Wedding Photographer/Videographer. Your work inspires more people than you know. Me included. Cheers Eric!!!!
A recommendation for those looking to get a lav set up for somewhat cheap, but don't want to go the iphone route - I have the Saramonic Blink set, and it's AMAZING. Rode makes a fantastic Wireless Go set as well!
This is honestly so helpful! Audio is the biggest question mark to me right now for live events/weddings so there were some great knowledge nuggets here
Bro... I am literally 5 seconds in and my jaw just hit the floor with that title design. That is soooo freaking clean 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 You should run with that in some of your branding
I was gonna ask boxers or briefs since you promised to reply, but I think we all know now. Keep up the great work. I always learn a lot watching your videos.
THANK YOU! I've been struggling with audio for so long and running away from the external recorders. As a visual creator primarily, audio is like a whole new universe I have yet to conquer. Thanks for making it so straightforward and sharing your experience, appreciate it!
I have been watching your videos all night while I'm waiting for my FIRST DSLR camera to come ups. I'm 43 and have been wanting to do this my whole life but I guess I wasn't ready until now plus I can finally afford a decent camera. I thought I would start out with a Canon T6. I heard that was a good beginner model. Anyway, thank you for your videos! I'm going back to watching and learning. OH! I'll also go toe to toe with you on the dad jokes (lol). I have 3 girls; 23,12,9 years old.
I was wondering if you weren't wearing any pants. Great life-saving tips for audio! I got saved by my shotgun mic when my lav system failed at a recent wedding. Always, always, always have backup audio! Cheers from Colorado.
it´s so nice to see a youtuber well dressed , it´s a breath of fresh air my friend , keep it going and this video is great, great info and great delivery. kudos from México. edit: ok, apparently he was wearing no pants .... reminder to myself to not express an opinion till the end hahaha. still good hahaha.
Thank you for the great advice and knowledge. I completely agree that audio will make or break a video. It can definitely change or make one feel [certain] mood, just by the audio. Good luck in all your adventures.
Just wanted to comment to say that we have used the links provided for the sony recorder and the mic sleeves! We wanted to be a blessing to you and your family. I believe that it was the perfect timing for us to watch this particular video. Thank you RUclips Dad! #SquadFam. We need squadfam hoodies please!
Whuuuuut - This is why I love RUclips and not being a master of the craft while making these videos. Haha keeps me humble, but it’s also so helpful! I had no idea. I will absolutely use that from now on. Thank you!!
@@EricFloberg No probs! I only got my Zoom H5 a couple of weeks ago and am still discovering new stuff you can do with it haha! Thanks for your amazing tutorials :)
I got to say out of all the video clips I watch, by far Eric, you came across the your listener as the most competent one! So l can appreciate that and send thanks to you.... But I also enjoyed your demeanor and how relaxed you were speaking to your audience, along with your slapstick humor, and sharp dressed. However you are out of my league with a lot of the terminology, seeing how I do not have any experience yet. But, l would like to start learning the craft and was wondering if you could possibly recommend a link to me, or even a good place to start?
Story is absolutely key to make a great wedding film! just like it is key to make a brilliant 'Hollywood film' Its great to see your techniques for recording audio on the day. I use a mixture of lav mics into my tascam recorders, plus backup phone with lav mic rigs using the RODE REC app and then shotgun mics to pic up other dialog and general ambience and foley.
Nice to see the Tascam getting a mention, so many people overlook these recorders and they are a great budget option, I use the DR 40 and the DR701D for my voiceovers and they have really low self noise, the DR60D MKII was good and I loved it but the self noise was a bit of an issue as was the DR70 but the 2 I have are just perfect, the DR701D is now my studio choice while the DR40 is my run-and-gun. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Dude! Commenting for the algorithm lol, thanks for all your business advice and inspiration, genuinely learnt some new stuff from your channel (many RUclipsrs regurgitate the same old content) but yours has always been original (Brenizer method for example).
This is late, but you have become a good online mentor. I am filming my first Wedding this coming November and I want to be able to tell a story well. So thank you.🙏🏿💙
Dude, pick up two of ghose DR-10Ls ASAP. They're SPECTACULAR! I'll also be picking up one of those little Sony guys myself- I'll definitely be needing that soon!
All great stuff man, loving it :) Mini tip - swap out that Sony for the Sony TX650. Super small and exactly the same job, 16gb built in memory and way better battery life, can’t even see it on a microphone it’s so small 🙌 We actually have a video on our channel showing them and the sleeve we use called - how to start filming weddings. Shameless plug but for real, it’s a wicked mic 👌
Hey Eric, Thanks for the Video, because of you and PMC I started watching out way more on Audio. Thanks for that :) Keep on going, really like your Videos
Quick suggestion! Rode has wireless transmitters that you can plug straight into your camera and record audio wirelessly! It’s really awesome. You can plug in a lav or there is an onboard mic that you can use. It’s incredible and like 200 bucks I think. So so great! Fstoppers did a review of them like 3 weeks ago. I think it’ll make your life way easier and you won’t have to use your phone anymore.
This video pushed me into buying Zoom H5. Also, you can record microphone and xlr at the same time and get two files. Also, you might ask DJ/band to plug your recorder in the mixer, it's my way of doing it and for now it's going great!
That Mic Sleeve idea is amazing! I typically use a Sony TX650 and velcro around the mic and the Sony TX650.... works but not very secure! Thanks for the tip!
@6:00 recording XLR or audio out of a speaker 🔊 - still need to monitor the audio levels even with -10db safety track recording. I plugged into the audio at wedding and leveled out, then as the musicians changed output levels (iPod songs, live music, mic) it all got blown out. So be careful and get backup audio sources unless you have someone to continuously monitor the audio levels!
Thank you for all the amazing information! I have recently gotten a ton of inspiration from your channel, and seriously love your content! I’m waiting for you to have another workshop so I can come up from Columbus Ohio!
