Yes, you are 100% right buddy. I actually flew this with the GoPro Session most of the time, and unfortunately yes... I did crash it, nose first, into a cliff at almost full speed. The GoPro was destroyed £150+ camera gone in a moment of pilot error. Whereas the Split probably would have only needed a new lens/camera module.
This just validated my choice of a similar X2216-8 1250kV motor. I installed it today but the wind was too extreme to test. Had a similar APC C-2 8x6L prop on too, just decided on a 6 blade 6x4 monster instead. But the APC did have more thrust on the bench, really curious how it will compare. I'm running on 3S too, just a 3Ah LiIon. I'm very encouraged by your long flight times!
Can you tell me why you had to cut the plane to make the prop fit as I’ve got the same prop and motor set up but I have at least 1/2” space between them, is it to do with air flow?? And where did you get your battery from or could you give me an alternative as I’m a bit of a newbie many thanks 🙏
Are you sure you have the same model? If you bought yours new within the last year or so, it's most likely not the old AR Wing... this video is the old AR wing, the new version is the AR Pro. The new AR Pro is designed slightly different, with more space at the rear for the option of a bigger prop, such as the one I use here. This older AR Wing model came with a tiny quad style 2200kv motor and a 3 blade 5" prop, which I thought was drastically underpowered. I can't remember if there just was no room for the prop, or if there was a really small gap between the prop and the foam, but I definitely had to cut the foam out to make room.
@@grim-upnorth it is the old type not the pro I just thought as it is close to the body I’ll have to cut as it will affect the air flow being new to planes I needed a set up to help and you have helped I like your set up are you explain it very well just have to sort battery and I’m ready to fly thank you for your time 👍
@@thegudgeonlawrence3714 Ah, OK yes... I remember now. It was really close to the foam and this disturbs the air supply to the propeller, which causes a lot of noise. The plane will be quieter if you cut those corners off. As for the battery, I bought it from Hobbyking many years ago, and they've stopped making that particular size. I'm sorry I can't help you find a battery that would suit anymore. safe flying and I hope you do well with this plane 😁
Thank you. All the parts I used are mentioned in the video. This was the PNP version, so the servos are the cheap ones that came pre-installed. However, they were more than enough for the job and were very reliable for me. I can't recall the AUW unfortunately, I no longer have this model (crashed) but if you're considering getting one, hold off and get the AR Wing Pro that's due out soon.
@@grim-upnorth Thank you for your answer , I asked you that because I would like weight with all equipment + Gopro Hero 8 less than 800 gramms ... Possible or not ?
Thank you for the kind comment. I don't really like to do videos "telling" people how to build their planes, I feel that is a very personally creative process... but I'm glad I've been able to give you some ideas to think about. Good luck with your modifications.
Hey, no I would not recommend using a 9" prop with the stock motor. This video is for the AR wing, if you have an AR wing Pro (the new version) I can't comment. but if you do indeed have an AR wing like this one, then the stock motor is pretty much just a poor quality miniquad motor and would struggle to spin a big prop. I would suggest using the prop it came with, unless you intend on swapping out the motor too. thanks :-)
Any chance you have that RC split adapter up on Thingiverse? It should fit the Split 3 Micro as well. Do you like the RC footage? (FPV as well as HD.) Thx!
here you go buddy... but beware that it will crack/break if you use too brittle filament. I would suggest flexible TPU if you can. It would still hold everything in place, but the material would be more forgiving. www.thingiverse.com/thing:3816505
No, it does not come with a remote control. There are 2 options when you buy. Kit and PNP. PNP stands for Plug N Play. With the kit version you need to separately source your choice of Motor, Propeller, ESC and Servos. With the PNP version, it comes with a Motor, Propeller, ESC and Servos. With both versions you will need to supply your own control receiver which matches the control transmitter (or the remote control as you call it). The Transmitter in this video is a Taranis Q X7 from a company called FrSky. Therefore I had to install a compatible FrSky Receiver in the aircraft. Here is a link to a load of different transmitters, I can recommend the Taranis Q X7 as a good beginner transmitter tiny.cc/transmitters
I have a ar900 but seems sluggish on launch with 2208/2550kv on 4s but has apc6*5.5 biblade, what can I buy motor wise that could run 4s and has great low end punch?
the sunnysky 1400kv motor is a great workhorse and works on 4S with a 8x6 or 9x5 prop pretty well. If you can't find one, just buy the ZOHD Dart XL replacement motor, it's 1300kv but made by sunnysky and is pretty much the same. tiny.cc/dartmotor

Thank you, I learn more each time I build a new plane.
Nice one buddy , makes sense the new power plant and prop combi 👍🏽😎..
The PNP miniquad setup on this is ridiculous considering the potential it has.
Big difference when you crash and break that go pro vs probably not hurt that split cam they take a lot

Yes there's a bit of waggle and nodding dog syndrome... I just put it down to it being a wing with no tail to stabilise it. 🙄
