Nice comparison, I'm just getting into the LR thing, just a 6" now with a diy 4300mah, yeah from what I've seen the helion isn't really any more efficient, seems to be a little more stable in the wind. I think I'll split the difference and am going for the speedybee Mario fold 8" I like the idea of being able to make it a little more compact while traveling.
For now this seems the way to go. But we`re planning to do some more tests, with different props, different battery sizes (even bigger) to see if we can find the sweet spot.
Something is missing in the equation. With Helion you covered the same distance in about 1.5 minutes less. If you do the math, it means that you’ve flown about 7% faster. This doesn’t necessarily means that you can cover 7% more distance, because flying slower means also covering less distance, but shows how the two quads have different efficiency points in terms of speed. Probably flying the Helion at 50kmh would have brought to you much more distance (remember that Helion is bigger and makes more resistance to the air - and resistance goes with the soeed^2). All in all I think Helion has already shown its efficiency by weighing much more, but still being able to cover the same distance in less time.
Not just the speed sweet spot, but also the battery weight. Our next test is designed to find the Helion's sweet spot on the battery weight, I suspect it might be higher than the 9000mAh 100c I used and definitely higher that what iFlight has on offer.
@@Phoenix.-for me the sweet spot is the 8400 mah li-ion from bronto 21700/ 849 grams battery weight. Got amazing range, approx 2500 mah on 10 km range (one way) 5400 mah totally on 20km with the helion.

Thanks! Do the FCC hack, check out some stuff from Mads Tech (f.e. DJI O3 FPV System FCC Hack How-To) among many others. Then in your goggles menu (while connected to your quad) go to “transmissions” > channel mode and set it to manual, go below channel mode, then you click on “bandwidth”, select 20MHz and then you get up to 7 channels and select one (or let the system select one) and then you`re set.
This Hélion drone really tempts me to go to the mountains 🗻, now it is clear that with a 5 inch a lion has 4000mah without GoPro just the 03 dji to film in 4k 30 FPS is going really well 👍. we can last 15 minutes. I think that this Hélion drone is really intended mainly for long distances. It’s something to think about 🤔.
@@PitsFlyingEye how is a 5 inch not smooth and stable enough? It's actually smoother because tuning is easier. Also everyone who buys a Helion relies on Gyroflow anyways.
Interesting. So I don't have to save up to get a Helion. Do you put the battery below the Chimera? 9Ah must be pretty big. What about top speed with both of them? Subbed as well.
you may need to watch the second episode of this comparison before you make up your mind @seb-depp. The battery fits on both beds (it's 18cm in length) so it's up to your style that defines where you want it.
@@seb-depp same conclusion, the Helion is for those who need this extra extra range. Chimera is propably going to be the perfect tool for 99% of the time.
Hi Filipe The batteries I used for this test were custom made but if you already use iflight batteries: then the two below should be good. 1. Fullsend 6S 8000mAh Li-Ion Battery 35A (35c) 2. Fullsend E 6S 8000mAh LiPo Battery (60c)
Sure you would want to fit a bigger battery on the helion 10. Look at the helion 3110 motor vs the 2809 chimera motor. You will see both make a maximum thrust of 2900g at 49A. The chimera7 has 7.5" props instead of the 8" from the diagram, but it's negilible. So according to the thrust data of both, you cant really carry a much larger battery on the helion regarding thrust. 3115 motors make the new 10" standard to really take advantage of the 10" props with thrust and efficiency. Maybe just add some weight to the helion to see how much it can handle and still fly well. Then you make a short track to see how many mAh were used and efficiency decreases. Grüße

@@Phoenix.- I think both should have GOPro's because everyone will fly them with GoPro. I'm guessing with a GoPro, the Helion will be more efficient. Hope your next test is with gopro. It was really nice video to watch, thanks!
buddy, you should do another test when its no wind, the helion is more stable, but more drag in the wind vs the chimera.. also try to mount the batteries on the helion so its within the sides of the canopy, so it gets the best aero.. i did a (10+10) km test with my helion , and i did 2500 mah at 10 km, 6300 mah totally on 25 km. with a 8400 li-ion 859 gram battery!
Hi Chris, thanks for your feedback. I'm glad you went out and ran more tests on this subject matter. It is always good to compare. We have done more tests after this one and every time the conclusion was that: with this battery load at 1.2kg facing the same conditions the Helion is never going to beat the Chimera on efficiency, and yes, especially when it's windy. We will definitely be keeping the Helion, but for a different type of flights from the ones we tested here with the Chimera. Its efficiency point is achieved with a much higher battery load and its prop size makes it ideal for high altitude flights. This has been proven in the various tests we have done since. It is a different beast to the Chimera and I would fly it to complement the Chimera, not instead of it. Glad you are enjoying your Helion. Keep the FPV spirit alive! 😃
@@Phoenix.- i also have the chimera, the helion does the best range at 50-60 kmh NOT 70-80 kmh , in 50-60 kmh ,then you can reach 10-12 km on a 8400 pack, my chimera could not have done that... if you try flying in 50kmh at 32-35% throttle with the battery within the canopy sides for best aero, the helion is way better than the chimera, its all about the way you fly it.
@@christianmong-hansen1835 Great that you have both quads: can you please fly both quads in the same conditions: on the same day on the same battery (The Chimera can handle up to 15000mAH lion so 8400mAH should be peace of cake) and please post it. @christianmong-hansen1835 Why are you laughing? I can send you several 4km one way flights, one with over 3000m altitude. And you can see that there is lots of battery left, 8km is just an antenna thing, not prop size or battery...

I wouldn`t say the amp draw is too high, when you consider the weight of this battery which is over 200 grams heavier than that of an 8000 MAH li-ion. On an 8000 MAH li-ion the amp draw on this Chimera is more or less the same as yours, at that speed. Nice testing, btw 😉

How did you reposition the Helion antennas? I’d like to do that!
In a way that breaks warranty - if such a thing exists in fpv.😊
Short answer: directly attached to the case/cover at the back. I will highlight all the modes in the upcoming and final comparison video.
this is amazing. Could you please share the settings of the googles and the O3 system? since you were at 25 Mbps at the beginning and not 50. I use goggles integra and after 500m of free sight the video signal is gone, ... so I am just wondering how? thanks
@@Phoenix.- Thanks a lot. gonna try that once the weather is dry again ;) greetings from Austria
Is it better to use 50 or 25mbps for long range?
@@dewhoop use 20mhz channel 7 , better for long range.
@@christianmong-hansen1835 yes 20mhz is the way to go.
If you have to compare with a 5", than Hélion drone is a clear winner, yes. But this is not clear, with 7". But, yes, it is a drone for the mountain.
@lemonoid6156 No, 5inch wins, because you save a lot of money, it fits in your backpack and it has enough time to go up any mountain.
@@saturn_fpva ten inch is way more smooth and stable for long distance flights
@@PitsFlyingEye how is a 5 inch not smooth and stable enough? It's actually smoother because tuning is easier. Also everyone who buys a Helion relies on Gyroflow anyways.
@@saturn_fpv ok try to fly with a 5inch at an Altitude over 3000m and more and you will see the difference .

Would you share your osd cli for the helion. It's perfect :) please 😊

What kind of certification do you have to hold to pilot these >1kg drones?
Go for the A2. It`s safer since drone laws seem to be changing every day in this part of the world (at least if you live in Europe). 🙂
What kind of License do you need to drive a Dragster on a Highway? Doing this stuff is anyways fully illegal, because BLOS and Cam onboard. With a license you just proove that you KNOW that it's illegal. Not holing any license at least gives you the (lame) excuse, you didn't know about it.
Fuck it, don't follow this stupid law insanity they are creating every week.
@@WDZaphod By not being registered as a pilot you give them a very easy possibility to fine you, no license, clear violation of law, case closed. (B)VLOS is super fuzzy, most of the time you easily get away with it. Let them prove you or your spotter didn't see the drone.
@@blacksheeep4634 Flying with a home build copter of 1.5kg, several km away, while filming - are you able to explain the actual situation in Germany?

There the same camera
How did you mount the bard pole?

Awesome, Will there be a print file available? I also saw Visma moded his with lateral arm braces. @@Phoenix.-
@@CaptainKazi We are in post now on that one. I have crashed the Helion over 5 times at speeds above 70kph without arm braces and it's still going. it's built like a tank.
But Helion should be able to carry a bigger battery. Like i run a bigger battery on my 7" LR than i do my 5" LR
I would of loved to seen throttle %
I will be running more tests to find the sweet spot on the battery size. I’m rooting for the Helion to do better just by it’s shear size. My aim with the Helion is to do some takes beyond 10km from home, I hope it can manage that at sizeable weight to retain agility.

2. Fullsend E 6S 8000mAh LiPo Battery (60c)
@@Phoenix.- thanks a Lot ! This LIPO 8.000 Mah Would be better for dives or flips, And rolls? i know that one lion is just for cruze flat flights
@@filipehenry4340 Yes, that should give you all the punch to do that 💪
Sure you would want to fit a bigger battery on the helion 10.
Grüße

Did you fly both with a GoPro?
None with GoPro, though for cinematic flights a GoPro is going to be a must for the Helion because otherwise you`ll have props in view. but for the second test the Helion will have a GoPro connected internally.
@@Phoenix.-
i also have the chimera, the helion does the best range at 50-60 kmh NOT 70-80 kmh , in 50-60 kmh ,then you can reach 10-12 km on a 8400 pack, my chimera could not have done that... if you try flying in 50kmh at 32-35% throttle with the battery within the canopy sides for best aero, the helion is way better than the chimera, its all about the way you fly it.
@@christianmong-hansen1835 Great that you have both quads: can you please fly both quads in the same conditions: on the same day on the same battery (The Chimera can handle up to 15000mAH lion so 8400mAH should be peace of cake) and please post it. @ christianmong-hansen1835: Do you mean to do the tests in a closed space like a warehouse? Out there, there will always be wind, sometimes more, sometimes less. I think it`s great that the tests were done under realistic conditions, only then you know, how the quad will behave in real life.
Just put a Liion on your existing 5" and save the money.
If it’s less windy, a 10 to 12km LR stint works on a 5inch with a 4000mAh Li-ion, I could never make it further.
do it , and send me a video proof of 8-10 km(one way)20 km totally and 1000 meters altitude ! LOL
@christianmong-hansen1835 Why are you laughing? I can send you several 4km one way flights, one with over 3000m altitude. And you can see that there is lots of battery left, 8km is just an antenna thing, not prop size or battery...
@@saturn_fpv because you can't compare a 5 to a 10 on LR , do you mean a 5 can do all the same stuff like a 10? NO wtf.

something wrong with chimera, amp draw is too high. ruclips.net/video/xvWImr9iY00/видео.htmlsi=Twiac-MDFZKCLoTi
I wouldn`t say the amp draw is too high, when you consider the weight of this battery which is over 200 grams heavier than that of an 8000 MAH li-ion.
On an 8000 MAH li-ion the amp draw on this Chimera is more or less the same as yours, at that speed.
