    Yeah, from other flights I've seen with the helion it seems less efficient, even without a comparison I looked at the amp usage and thought that doesn't seem any better... Id say unless your constantly flying in unpredictable winds all the time the chimera seems the say to go.

      I fly both 7 and 10 inch quads and the smaller quads usually get pushed around by the wind less.

      Yeah, particularly the Helion gets pushed back a lot and becomes slower in the wind, but the image seems more stable. But then we have Gyroflow for stabilization.

    Well considering the consumption is close and the hellion being a much larger drone would mean the hellion won as it will be able to carry a much bigger battery without being as affected.
    Tbh a 10 inch drone should be able to carry probably two of those battery's. But the DJI link would probably limit your range first.
    Its easier to long range very long distances with walksnail by using some very good directional antennas.

      I wonder how big of a battery iFlight and 2Raw had in mind when they design the Helion. The biggest lipo iFlight that is selling right now for the Helion is the Fullsend E 60c 8000mAh at 990g (Probably it’s the weight they thought the tune could handle before the quad starts ignoring most of your fine inputs). BTW: iFlight’s biggest battery would have perished on the Helion before the end of this test. I think We need to look elsewhere for batteries that can do mega range.

    Well happy to see the chinera 7 doing good, I have one and honestly 2 stacks died on them, now I use HGLRC specter in the chimera as that was one of the only stacks fitting with sideplates. As much I hate the electronics iFlight makes I love how their drones look as my Evoque F6 is an amazing drone, maybe I was just unlucky. Great video mate you actually inspired me cause I was planning to do a battery test of the new ovonic 4500mah 6S and I didnt know what measure to us so I fly the battery on 7inch and on my 7.5 chimera but I see distance covered is the one to use . i have SucceX-D Mini F7 and switched on my explorer LR 4 also to this upgrade. running hard 2 seasons now with maybe 30hrs on both stacks. smaller one is a tadpole with minimum one hard crash a day and the LR4 is always flying at the upper powerlimit with too much cells. i should throttle limit it, but for now i took care enough woth full cells. Am Klausenpass hab ich nicht aufgepasst, da ging er runter, nix kaputt. prop verbogen.... ich mag iflight auch nicht besonders, aber meine stacks sind ok.

      @ixography: Good to know and thanks for the sub. As far as iFlight reliability is concerned, you are not alone there. I think the company is missing a few steps in quality control. We have received a few quads from them that just died a few weeks later and to make matters worse the local iflight support (Europe) is not that great especially if made a few mods on the quad itself.

    Nice comparison, I'm just getting into the LR thing, just a 6" now with a diy 4300mah, yeah from what I've seen the helion isn't really any more efficient, seems to be a little more stable in the wind. I think I'll split the difference and am going for the speedybee Mario fold 8" I like the idea of being able to make it a little more compact while traveling.

    • @Phoenix.-
      @Phoenix.-  9 месяцев назад +1

      For now this seems the way to go. But we`re planning to do some more tests, with different props, different battery sizes (even bigger) to see if we can find the sweet spot.

  • @GianmariaVeronese
    @GianmariaVeronese 9 месяцев назад +3

    Something is missing in the equation. With Helion you covered the same distance in about 1.5 minutes less. If you do the math, it means that you’ve flown about 7% faster. This doesn’t necessarily means that you can cover 7% more distance, because flying slower means also covering less distance, but shows how the two quads have different efficiency points in terms of speed. Probably flying the Helion at 50kmh would have brought to you much more distance (remember that Helion is bigger and makes more resistance to the air - and resistance goes with the soeed^2). All in all I think Helion has already shown its efficiency by weighing much more, but still being able to cover the same distance in less time.

      The helion 10s biggest advantage seems to be that it can handle the wind a little better

    • @Phoenix.-

      Ich stimme ugpfpv361 zu, die 5" frame ist nicht gut für die 9000MAH Lipo geeignet, weil sie u.a. zu kurz ist und generell nicht für LR geeignet.

      1.) Geht beim crash nicht leicht kaputt (gilt nicht nicht für die Props; die brechen, wenn man sie schief anschaut 🙂)

    interessant zu sehen was die setups bringen. Es sieht so aus, wie wenn man die 10Zoll nicht genug nutzen kann, das müsste viel besser sein. Denke die Regler haben noch ein zu scharfes setup, die müssten evtl. träger eingestellt werden. Das spart Strom. Die Setups sind auch noch recht schnell ausgelegt, kv wird noch um die 900-1000 liegen, oder? Wir sind ja vor 10 Jahren auch schon 10 Zoll geflogen, die quads waren aber nicht so schnell, haben mit 3S 2600 doch schon 12minuten gehalten. Mit meinem Explorer LR 4 Zoll kann ich auch um die 20min fliegen, vermutlich nicht ganz so schnell und long range tauglich ist das setup nicht. Denke man wird nur richtig lang fliegen, wenn man es schafft das framegewicht einiges zu drücken. Aktuell gibts sowas nicht fertig, der einzige Frame den ich kenne, ist der Tube Frame von Nic. Eigenbau und in der Größe nach oben keine Grenzen, stabil und enorm leicht.

      So ist es. Meine Beobachtung ist, dass die 900-kV-Motoren des Helion effizienter sind als die 1250-Motoren des Chimera 7. Aber - und jetzt kommt das Aber - das etwas höhere Gewicht des Helion macht den Effizienzvorteil der 900-kV-Motoren wieder zunichte und der Chimera hat, wie man sieht, die Nase vorn. Und die Tatsache, dass der Helion 10 so groß ist, macht es noch schwieriger, ihn durch den Wind zu schieben. Selbst wenn man ihn also leichter macht, reicht das vielleicht nicht aus. Wir haben jedoch noch einen zweiten und finalen Test vor uns, also stay tuned. 😊

      I will be running more tests to find the sweet spot on the battery size. I’m rooting for the Helion to do better just by it’s shear size. My aim with the Helion is to do some takes beyond 10km from home, I hope it can manage that at sizeable weight to retain agility.

    Sure you would want to fit a bigger battery on the helion 10.
    Look at the helion 3110 motor vs the 2809 chimera motor. You will see both make a maximum thrust of 2900g at 49A. The chimera7 has 7.5" props instead of the 8" from the diagram, but it's negilible.
    So according to the thrust data of both, you cant really carry a much larger battery on the helion regarding thrust.
    3115 motors make the new 10" standard to really take advantage of the 10" props with thrust and efficiency.
    Maybe just add some weight to the helion to see how much it can handle and still fly well. Then you make a short track to see how many mAh were used and efficiency decreases.
    Grüße

      None with GoPro, though for cinematic flights a GoPro is going to be a must for the Helion because otherwise you`ll have props in view. but for the second test the Helion will have a GoPro connected internally.

    buddy, you should do another test when its no wind,the helion is more stable, but more drag in the wind vs the chimera.. also try to mount the batteries on the helion so its within the sides of the canopy, so it gets the best aero.. i did a (10+10) km test with my helion , and i did 2500 mah at 10 km, 6300 mah totally on 25 km. with a 8400 li-ion 859 gram battery!

    • @Phoenix.-
      @Phoenix.-  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Chris, thanks for your feedback. I'm glad you went out and ran more tests on this subject matter. It is always good to compare.
      We have done more tests after this one and every time the conclusion was that: with this battery load at 1.2kg facing the same conditions the Helion is never going to beat the Chimera on efficiency, and yes, especially when it's windy.
      We will definitely be keeping the Helion, but for a different type of flights from the ones we tested here with the Chimera. Its efficiency point is achieved with a much higher battery load and its prop size makes it ideal for high altitude flights. This has been proven in the various tests we have done since. It is a different beast to the Chimera and I would fly it to complement the Chimera, not instead of it. Glad you are enjoying your Helion. Keep the FPV spirit alive! 😃

      i also have the chimera, the helion does the best range at 50-60 kmh NOT 70-80 kmh , in 50-60 kmh ,then you can reach 10-12 km on a 8400 pack, my chimera could not have done that... if you try flying in 50kmh at 32-35% throttle with the battery within the canopy sides for best aero, the helion is way better than the chimera, its all about the way you fly it.

      I wouldn`t say the amp draw is too high, when you consider the weight of this battery which is over 200 grams heavier than that of an 8000 MAH li-ion.
