I love this book with my whole heart, I tear up every time I read it. I don't think I've ever read such a damning condemnation of humanity that also manages to show the beauty of us.
I had to use google translate, but thanks so much for your comment! Yes, when the sound designer sent me the track I found it very jarring too, but very quickly I couldn't imagine using music that was more "normal" or atmospheric, and I'm still glad I went with it :)
How so? The book was slow, philosophical, lacked "noise", and was far from colorful. This is in-your-face imagery, fast, noisy as hell, and is a siezure-warning of color, cuts, and hostile sound. I'm not saying it's not cool, that there aren't elements of Roadside Picnic, albeit completely alienated from the substance of the story, but to say this person nailed it? That's assanine, flat out wrong, and borderline disrespectful to those wonderful Russian brothers who composed the story. This shit did not capture an iota of anything regarding atmosphere, let alone the rich atmosphere of that story. Jesus Christ dude.
@@stevenhetzel6483 Hi Steven, sorry I just thought it from my point of view; I simply find that the interesting thing about reading books is our personal interpretation of the imagery and the narrative and in my humble, modest and above all personal opinion I just thought that this very video is close to my interpretation of the book atmosphere. There is no need to be aggressive. I think perhaps that also the creator of the video was just trying to represent his point of view. Simple as that.
@@giacomopandiani6290 yeah, the book has very strong and quite deep themes, but this was my first experiment with video, I was instead aiming for something short capturing the protagonist's precarious and stressed to the limit life, as well as the deadly alien zone, which is also portrayed in the book in a brutal way. Thanks!
i think it really fits as a more modern take, i mean the video came out in 2018 and im sure it would fit with both this and a calmer style of music, but i personally love it
Hey, thanks for taking the time to reply! Yes, you're right about her description. In this version of the video some of the skin looks more or less smooth but I did draw some thin hair all over her (cheeks and arms for example). But the shots are quick so it's hard to see. If you want, look for the less compressed version of this on Vimeo. I think drawing her too much like a monkey as she grows up to be later in the book would make it too odd, especially for the short time of the video. I wanted to be seen as pretty close to a child here. Again, thanks!

What a passion project. Simply wonderful.
Awesome, wish more people would make stuff about this book, but this is probably the best I’ve seen, very well done
One of my favourite video's on youtube ever!
Почему об этом шедевре никто не знает? Потому ценность как раз в исключительности и редкости!
Goddamn this is gorgeous. You did the brothers’s masterpiece justice.
as is the way in the zone
best visualization of the novel I have ever seen.
Visionary the Strugarsky brothers.
One of the best books that I've ever read.
When are we getting a good film or TV adaptation
Don't need one, I'm satisfied with just the book
I very much enjoyed this, Thank you.
Really happy to read, thanks for leaving a comment!

Insane work! Loved it, You just got the atmosphere perfectly!

Your comment is the most insufferable I have ever read on RUclips
very underrated
The video is absolutely amazing but music.. It needs something else as soundtrack, this rave thing doesn't really fit too well.

Stalker has forever marked russian hardbass as the zone's spiritual OST
sick stuff! real cool
Awesome
A true scifi novel
Real scifi masters those dudes
I liked it.
The inhumanity of the Zone is so disturbing.
Very good, my only complain is that the monkey is described in the book as very hairyall over the body, but aside from that you catched everything

Nice
Cool, but sounds like death's fart.
i dont get it
Read the book

This was fantastic..except for the music...dubstep music was irritating...I put it on mute...but the video itself is quite well done.
Awful.
