I can 100% tell that you have a teaching background. How you explain every little step as you cook, mostly - and it’s so useful. Often times bakers will omit “unimportant” steps, but for nonskilled bakers, every step is important. Because of the teaching background, you realize this and explain everything!
I actually worked with Mr. Kanell at the same school in L.A. a loooonnng time ago.Such a great math/science teacher and he was ALWAYS impeccably dressed.
No questions as much as a statement. You are SUCH an excellent instructor. I can't tell you how thankful I am for finding your page. I've been experimenting with pound cakes first (my Mama always had an Orange Pound Cake in our house. It was time for me to carry on the tradition). After watching your channel, I feel brave enough to take it to the next level.
Ohhh you are Mexican!! This explain so much!! Hahah the sassiness mostly lol! Do you like Mexican food or do you prefer greek food?? What part is your mom from??
Love this channel🤩 you have such a great spirit, infectious smile, wonderful recipes...and I especially love the times you cook with your momma. So sweet!
FYI-Being married to a lefty I found and bought several pairs of scissors made for lefties. Get your husband to get you some. One for fabric, one for cutting paper for example.
Just want to second this request! I never met a stick of butter I didn’t love but have several vegan friends I’d like to bake for. I’m one of those “never show up empty-handed” people but always feel like the vegan set are being cheated when I turn up with something store bought.
I love what you do and the way you do it. Cook your recipes all the time. I love the way you present and explain all of the steps. You inspire me to be better cook.
The way you present these videos are so easy to follow and you are right on the spot. I do follow your instructions to the teeth and the results are amazing. Thank you for this little Q&A's section.
I can’t believe I just found your channel ! I’ve quickly become addicted! You’re an excellent teacher , and I greatly appreciate your giving tips and advice. Many chefs seem to keep these important things to themselves. You have such a generous spirit, and infectious love of cooking. Your quick, funny asides make everything so much more fun. I’ve preordered your cookbook and now can’t wait until October ! Keep up the good work !
I ordered new 6" cake pans and cake strips. Thank you so much for all your inspiration and fun videos. Just as soon as I get over my cold, I'll be baking away. First up? Your German Chocolate Cake!!
Susan Rynearson ever since I started using the strips my cakes improved. An easy way to put them Ifor r Lund pans is after flour and greasing ur pan put wax paper down in the pan I turn the pan upside down and put it over a crisco container then I apply my strip the lip of the pan will keep it from slipping off. I also use safety pins to lock it on if ur trying to put it through the material and it resisting run the sharp part through ur hair it will help break up the static electricity. Hope I made this easy to understand good luck hope u feel better
John you are so inspirational. Your videos are so therapeutic, I watch you during my lunch at work to destress. You have such a talent for making baking fun and explaining why we have to do things a certain way and also so knowledgeable in substituting techniques when possible. Thanks so much for sharing your talent with us and giving us the ability to create such wonderful treats!😋
i love it when you always say how dare you it cracks me up every time! love your videos and your adorable baking techniques keep up the good work and ill keep watching
I love how you can't even fake being offended. You laughed each time you said "how dare you." 😂 Also I never noticed the shirts before but then you cut to the video with your mom and now I can't unsee it!
I love baking with honey instead of sugar. I just made lemon bars with honey, for example. I'd love to see you demonstrate recipes with honey! I love your positive attitude and your precision. I'm an artist like you!
I came upon your videos by accident and find myself addicted. You are such a good teacher and you make me believe that I could try anything! Thank you. Please don't stop!
What I particularly like about your videos, other than the useful tips, is you give permission to mess up and not feel intimidated by trying something new or difficult.
what fun ! i just discovered your channel a few months ago and really like it. your attitude on this clip follows nicely with the rest of what i have seen; this cavalier tossing off of the discarded questions somehow matches well with your combo of meticulous work contrasting with the slobbing around of flour escaping from the mixer and sugar flying over the edge of bowls. then pit that against the insane detail of making those flowers. i believe i have read that Beethoven and Mozart were kind of messy too... though their work was NOT. (playing with you, mr. keep up the great work.)
For a self taught baker ,you're a natural instructor? I love your channel showing your skills and passion. The one I enjjoy most was your. flower decorating video. Keep up love to see more!
Love your personality...you seem so genuine in your videos and this is really refreshing. Was wondering if you have any plans on making a video on how to make banana bread. I have followed the most popular recipes online and none of them come close to one of my neighbor’s banana breads. I’ve tried everything to get her recipe but she refuses to divulge her family recipe. My banana breads always end up too cakey/fluffy and not dense enough. Please help!! Thank you in advance :)
The trick to perfect butter cream frosting is to whip butter with whisk attachment about 4-5 minutes. Yields a light yellow with smoother consistency that will not break down later. The taste is amazing! Try it once and you'll never ever not do it.
Hi! I found your channel today. As I was searching for how to bake a flat cake. I watched yours. And now I am very very very happy. You are truly amazing and inspiring. Please keep on giving those lil tips while baking. 🙃❤
I knew there was an underlying reason why I am drawn to your channel (apart from all the other amazing qualities) you’re Greek! Tell your mum I love her for taking on the Greek culture, what a legend! Also you should definitely make yalaktoburiko, I made a choc custard version with a orange syrup instead, delish!!!!
Lol you’re my favorite @preppykitchen so enjoyable to watch and so helpful!! I’m trying to get into the baking business so you are a wonderful fountain of resource for me so thank you for all you do 🙏🏻
Just want to thank you so much! You inspired me a lot & give me confidence in baking and decorate cake.I am self taught baker,I learn from the internet and youtubers like you. But because of you,my skils improve a LOT..Thank you for sharing tips, mean a lot for me.
Mr Kitchen, you should do a challenge of one hero ingredient to shine in all components of a cake or tart. but still make it tasty and not over powering :) like a lemon zested tart dough, lemon and yuzu cream, topped with lime meringue! or an amaretto infused cake, with amaretto frosting and amaretto cranberry crumb
Yes, please make a video on how to store cakes! Especially those 3-layer ones. I have trouble finding a container that doesn't smash them and can fit in the fridge. Love your channel :)
Thanks so much for sharing. I used your wonderful vanilla cake recipe and instead of just the 3 tsps of vanilla I subbed one tsp of coconut flavouring. It was a hit!!! Thanks so much
My Mom made a three 9” layer German Cake with a double recipe of frosting. When she first made them, I hated nuts, so I would eat the cake and just discard the nuts, she finally told me that if I didn’t eat the nuts I couldn’t eat the cake because not eating the nuts was too much of a waste. So I started eating the nuts, and now I love them and always have them in my pantry. Also, I love German Chocolate cream pie, the kind we had at Marie Callender’s Restaurant. It took me awhile to duplicate it, but once I did I couldn’t believe how simple it was, I made the chocolate pudding, when it was about 2 minutes from being done, I tossed in about a cup of pecans and about a cup of shredded coconut, give or take....it’s now my favorite pie. And, because of you, I’m going to be getting 6” cake pans, because I just like how the cakes look when you’re finished, not that mine will measure up, but they will still be awesome.
Recently discovered you. Love your channel. Love the ease and clarity of your videos, the detailing and helpful tips you give, love how you encourage. Nice that you share a bit about yourself as I find myself wondering how long it took you to master some things. Am bing watching, will try many recipes, going to purchase equipment I don’t have, am subscribing. Thanks for all you share.
Hi John! I was wondering if you've ever used silicone baking pans? I have a silicone muffin and cake pan and was wondering if you find it affects the baking time or quality? I love that nothing sticks to them and are easy to clean! Also, I'd love to see a chocolate hazlenut recipe! Thanks so much :) Love your videos!!!
Omg if my math/science class incorporated baking I would be a genius🤦🏽♀️. Love the channel! You are awesome! Knowing you are mom/self taught makes it even better. Baking intimidates me but I am learning so much from you! I look forward to making a homemade cake soon!
Maybe you have and I've just overlooked it, but I would love to see a video of you making baklava. I've made it once myself and while it turned out well enough (the filling was a little sticker than I remember it having been when I'd had it from a bake shop I once visited), I'd like to see it done by someone who knows how to make it.
Cooking is a fine science, chemical reactions between heat and ingredients.. You are a natural, and Id have thought you had culinary training due to your beautiful, precise results, knowledgability and vast variety. The reality; your personal devotion, makes it even better!! Btw, just made the stove top, in can dulce de leche, and its fabulous!!
There are left-handed scissors (Amazon). I've bought my grandson quite a few through the years, to use both at home and at school, which helps tremendously!!! FYI - "Universal" scissors do not work for lefties, as the blades are still "right-handed" and you'll mangle the item you're cutting. Cheers!
What's a baking strip ? I'm green on some of the things you have. I learned a lot from my grandma and mom. They didn't have things like that back ... way back in the day.
More of a compliment, the cake bands you suggested to make cakes even and no hard edges, works perfectly. Ok here’s a question what got you started baking
You have 3 (three dogs)??!!! I’m a dog lover too. I’ve got a little service dog (she’s a Pomeranian) named Stella. I made a 3 layer white cake and your Italian buttercream frosting. Everything was perfect but it took all the batch just to frost the cake and I wanted to decorate it. Can you double the recipe???

I have teachers in the family. Its so obvious once he stated that! They are very organized and calm generally too. Patient. Hes so adorable!😁
He’s said he used to be a teacher 👨🏻🏫 :)

You can do it!!
I love having food traditions in a family. It's something that's worth passing on.
@@PHOTOCONVENTION I do, too. It's something very sacred about preparing something wonderful that's been in the family for generations.
I️ love this video. Your enthusiasm for baking constantly inspires me to bake something new 😆❤️
I adore your channel. Your energy is beautiful.
I love when you say
"How dare you"
😂
That question evasion couldn't hide the guilty glance of a Kitchen Aid hoarder.
- "How many mixers do you have?"
- "I don't know..." (eyes shifting)
@LidaCosplay Haha! IKR? :-D
I literally laughed so hard on that part.
I feel like there was an....'I don't want to confirm this answer where my husband is gonna hear' element to that evasion.
😂😂😂 I REALLY WISH I KNEW YOU . I love your personality lol
Is it just me or, can you feel his amazing energy through his videos? Sending you Love from Indianapolis.
Yes please do a video on how to transport your cakes!! that will be really useful

I too am a self taught baker. I have learned mostly from RUclips and bakers like you, so thank you for sharing with us what you know.
I really enjoy watching this guy talking. He's really personable.
Do you ever use leftover home made buttercream frosting to add to a cake or muffin recipe if you ran out of butter or corn starch?
Self taught, good to know we don't have to go to culinary school if one is a natural in the kitchen. I love to cook & enjoy watching your videos.
FYI-Being married to a lefty I found and bought several pairs of scissors made for lefties. Get your husband to get you some. One for fabric, one for cutting paper for example.
Almost 200K! Proud to see the growth your channel has had. You deserve every bit of it. ❤️
You look so fresh, honest and humble.…love your channel!
Yes PLEASE on more vegan and gluten free recipes!! I would love to see more since I am gluten and dairy free for health reasons!
Just want to second this request! I never met a stick of butter I didn’t love but have several vegan friends I’d like to bake for. I’m one of those “never show up empty-handed” people but always feel like the vegan set are being cheated when I turn up with something store bought.
I bought the Wilton cake strips you recommended. I love them! Thank you!

John: "I was a math and science teacher."

It's true!

QUESTION: do sprinkles stick to Italian Buttercream better when the icing is chilled or right after you apply it to your cake?
Yah a cookbook !!!!! 🙏🏻🧡
I made a 3 layer white cake and your Italian buttercream frosting. Everything was perfect but it took all the batch just to frost the cake and I wanted to decorate it. Can you double the recipe???
You are amazing every recipe works
Omg i didnt know why i like your videos so much. Now i know, because you are a math teacher. Respect ✊
I very much enjoy your videos. I wish you would do more savoury dishes - I cook a lot more dinners than desserts!
What about using rice flour in place of corn starch.
