- Welcome to our new sub-series At Home in the Kitchen! We love and value you, our viewers, so when you talk, we listen!! Many of you have requested seeing more kitchens in the homes we feature, so we have created an entire new series focusing on stylish kitchens of designers and tastemakers with design advice and some cooking/baking as well! We are excited to kick it off with John Kanell, Creator of Preppy Kitchen, the über popular food blog and RUclips cooking and baking sensation. A recent Connecticut transplant from Los Angeles, John, his husband Brian and twin sons are now enjoying New England life while they renovate their new home. After meeting Susanna at a book signing for At Home with Dogs and Their Designers, John enlisted her help in decorating their dining room (stay tuned to the end of the video!). And when the redo of his spectacular new kitchen was finished, we knew John was the perfect subject to debut our new series!! With tons of tips, from storage to stoves and spices to sprinkles, John explains how he created his perfect studio kitchen! Wow! I've never seen a kitchen that is so detailed and so well-thought-out and just-right for the person using it.---I noticed John uses a KitchenAid mixer. Good choice. My grandmother's KitchenAid mixer was used for I don't even know how many decades over three generations of my family.---Susanna and Stacey, I think we might need a sequel to this video---and more cake!

Well for the first time since I subbed here I am almost at a total loss for words.. I had no idea someone could do "kitchen" better than me.. I bow down to the master. That professional stove? The drawer of tea cups? The sprinkles and seasonings galore drawers? I felt like I was in a dream. I can not look at my kitchen the same way now. Stacey and Susanna? Thank you for sharing and I am forever in your debt for showing me how a real kitchen should look and feel.

What a lovely kitchen (and tour). I remember when the space was just a large, empty space with exposed wood studs and construction underway. Now... what a transformation. I love all the beautiful storage solutions too. It's just gorgeous and I'm sure it's a pleasure to work in. Be sure to sneak-in plenty of kitchen glimpses (sigh, swoon) when you shoot your food/videos. You have such stunning backdrops at every angle of the kitchen.

As if the landing strip island weren't enough, across the aisle is the Rolls Royce of stoves, a drawer for Sprinkles, then that fabulously decorated Naked Cake! I think I am delerious, this "home chef" is on a sugar high! So many kitchen sweets!

OMG - I have no need for such a big kitchen and in fact wish mine was smaller but for a cook and someone who does this for a living this is amazing. And so well thought out. And drawers are the key to a good kitchen. Especially slow close drawers.

They look like huge pizza cutters, ha! Beautiful cookware. Copper is special isn't it?! I wonder what brand they are. Thank you for being You!! 😊

Love all the space around the island. Have them install shelves that come out and raise up. Those Le Creuset dutch ovens are super heavy. I did that on mine and my back is super happy. No more bending down or reaching far in you just pull out your shelf raise up and grab your pot.
They do have that - we just didn't show it. Thanks for your input!
