My Dream Kitchen Garden Reveal!

- Since before we moved to our farm in Connecticut I've dreamed of having a big kitchen garden where I could step outside and pick fresh herbs and veggies to use in my recipes. This year my dream came true and we built and planted out a big vegetable garden behind the house where an old and crumbling patio used to be. We still have some finishing touches to put on but I had to share the reveal with you! We will definitely do a followup video so you can see how things mature and what we are able to harvest! If you want to see more of this content outside of the kitchen then let me know in the comments!

THIS IS MY ULTIMATE DREAM (one day, hopefully)! Thanks for taking us through your garden John and I would love to get a glimpse of your house - you have so much taste (literally).
It’s not really polite to taste people.
Hi I'm India cilantro teacher had going on been trying for a while now to get mine to grow but I'm having a hard time what are some of the you are techniques for growing it .

I want a year-round hydroponic garden inside the kitchen!!! 😁 If only you could have half the garden inside the kitchen and on the outside you can have some kind of automatic greenhouse cover when needed.
Cucumbers, rosemary, carrots and garlic!! Your garden is just a dream!
Gardening is actually a really fun thing to do. I hope one day I could have a big garden with so many fruits, vegetables, and other plants. Love your garden John!🪴🪴🪴
Thank you and happy gardening!
@@PreppyKitchen you’re welcome, and happy gardening to you too! 😊
@@PreppyKitchenlove it John
I’m Hispanic living in El Paso. I plant every year. My favorites are jalapeños, tomatoes, cilantro, watermelon and rosemary
I really want to plant a watermelon patch
@@PreppyKitchen go for it! I Planted a few. I can see them growing already:)
Rosie’s Home, hi! I am from El Paso, too! Your garden sounds great, too.
@@wallihaley5194 yay! Hi!
El Paso, oooh you have me craving Tacoholics 😋
okay that garden is actually so beautiful and amazing
Thank you!!
Wow! This is fabulous! In Mexico City, yard space is generally tiny, so my husband created a container garden on our roof. We've got a couple varieties of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, strawberries, herbs, peas, and green beans. But if we had the yard space, we'd absolutely do raised beds.
I am more impressed with what you are growing on your rooftop garden! In the space you have! ❤️ that’s what most of us have. We are not all as fortunate to have such a beautiful place like they have, or the help to keep it up. I love the yummy recipes they share and have been following him for awhile. I am lucky like you, my husband made me a wonderful garden that works great in our backyard. It’s not a big backyard but it has a space for a garden. ❤️ I hope you have a wonderful week.
@@smileytow1925 aww, thank you!
That garden is beautiful I love how it’s set up and has a very clean organized look
I love it when you update us about your life and home because it shows us behind all that happens in your kitchen😊❤️ And your garden is absolutely beautiful
Watching someone else living your dream is kinda depressing and inspiring and the same time
I feel the same way.
We love our homegrown eggplant, herbs, lemons and peppers. Beautiful and bountiful.
Jesus, that garden is like a whole different level.
This is not a grown garden, this is a planted garden. Most of the plants were grown elsewhere and then placed into these wooden elevated boxes. A grown garden looks very different.
@@eily_b ok cool. I don’t really care if he grew the veggies himself elsewhere or bought them in and planted them later. It’s his garden to do whatever he wants. And it’s beautiful. But thanks for this input.
@@eli19151 It is beautiful, but as the veggies grow, it doesnt end up looking so clean and beautiful😄
I bet John’s kids are going to love exploring the garden and picking fresh vegetables right off the vine. It would be great to see them learning to identify the herbs and vegetables as little ones.
Wow, not only did you show off your garden, you brought in someone to teach us. That was was nice, and thoughtful. Your garden is immaculate by the way.
I love seeing people living their dream, it’s so uplifting! It’s beautiful, Nick’s work is outstanding! I’m planning similar in my garden in the UK so thanks for the pointers 🙂
Rosemary is my favorite herb to keep around and tomatoes are my favorite veg
They are both sooo delicious
@@PreppyKitchen by the way, I really like your videos, helped me a lot improving my baking!
I hate to tell you, tomato’s are FRUIT
@@christabell-zc9rn my life has been a big lie
Edible flowers!!! Violas, nasturtium, borage, calendula and so many more! Desserts, cocktails and salads look so fancy them! 😊❤
Your garden is a worthy addition to the spectacular setting. Virgo nitpicking done right!
😂thanks!
This is what I imagine heaven must be like. Your garden is absolutely gorgeous, satisfyingly symmetrical, and perfectly placed. You are so inspiring, John!
He looks so happy, it's contagious! ✨
Having your own kitchen garden is a complete Bliss. Beautiful indeed.
SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!! Keep it up! I look up to you so much!
Thanks so much Alejandra!
You’re living my dream. So happy someone got to do it and so happy it’s you and your family ✌️🌻❤️
You're living the dream! That is such a beautiful garden I love how nicely everything is layed out.
Wow. This is so beautiful. Ohh man I wish I can one day have this in my life.
Thank you for having Nick on to talk !! That was really cool to see .. Please keep showing us your amazing home !! Your husband and kids must love it there too !! Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us John !!
This was a really fun project for us to do. John is incredibly nice and fun to be with. I had a great time filming this with him.
@@nickdematteis1541 Do you do work in Upstate NY?
i cant imagine how fun it must be to go grocery shopping for free in your backyard 🤗 it must feel so good i cant wait to have my own little kitchen garden 🪴💜🙏🏻
Very true but I would imagine it costs some money to keep the garden as beautiful as it is and keeping it healthy. But the convenience of just going outside to pick something you need fresh off the vine, a patch (cabbage or lettuce), or from the herb garden. Priceless!
What a beautiful garden! I wish I had such a beautiful vegetable garden and that I had the motivation to maintain one!
Thank you! You can always start with a few plants in your window sill and work from there :-)
What a great garden ! I used to grow asparagus in my Michigan garden. It comes back every spring, and tastes fantastic.
So beautiful! I'm so excited for all the joy, and memories you will create with your family. Please remember to be present, and enjoy the small moments as well.
That is stunning !!!!!!!!!! This is great for your kids. It is fun for them and a great learning tool as well. Your garden should be in a magazine.
I dream of having a garden someday. Your's is amazing!
Thanks so much Colleen!
No questions...just a comment, I'm totally envious, you have a beautiful garden. Great team work.
this is incredible! my mom has just gotten into gardening, starting with some herbs and peppers. I hope she can have something this beautiful one day. thank you for sharing not only your delicious recipes but some inside looks like this too!
your videos never cease to make me smile. You're so charming and so is your garden!! I'm so happy for you
Yyeess, so beautifull, but we need a kitchen tour!!! 🥰🥰
I am so proud of you and your family dear John . God bless you all.And I am so happy because you are half Greek .Helen from Athens Greece
My dad accidentally grew cantaloupe. The little patch just started growing and he ended up with four melons 😄
I planted some lettuce from seeds that I ordered a couple years ago & a few weeks later.. I got a letter from the seed company saying " _We regret to inform you that the Boston bibb seeds that you purchased are likely not the seeds that you ordered_ " LOL! I ran out to the garden to see what was growing so fast you wouldn't believe it, but at that point, couldn't really tell what they were. Turns out I grew Tatsoi which was great! 🤗 The seed company also sent about 10 new packs of Bibb seeds..
I was talking to my mom about wanting to have a vegetable garden 🪴 in my home and then I see this video. Your garden looks beautiful and is definitely something I one day strive to have! Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden with us.
I just want to live in a stone castle with a lawn I can fill with fruits and vegetables, herbs, and native plants. Just feels like such a dream come true
Noone could be happier than someone who has his own kitchen garden. I used to have a garden where i was living but now i dont :(, I still remember the aroma of my strawberries and many other things. It's my dream to have one like yours! Yours is amazing!!!!! You could also plant some melons and watermelons!!
One of my favorite herbs to grow is thyme! It requires almost no maintenance, and in the spring and early summer it blooms with a million little purple flowers, and it'll be buzzing with bees, they love it as well. And of course fresh thyme tastes so much better than the dried stuff :)
Mine is oregano.
Mint is unkillable but spreads too much. Basil is nice, and once you get rosemary going, you get an herb and a nice looking bush.
Your garden is not only abundant, it’s stunning! How fun and joyful it must be!
Hi, John. Your garden is amazing! There's nothing like seeing your vision come to reality! Great job! Can't wait to see how it matures.
Peppers galore! Poblanos for just about daily use; cubanelles and Hungarian sweets for one of my favorite late summer/early fall dishes: Lesco; Fish chiles and Thai bird chiles and pequins for my favorite fiery dishes, and mini snacking bell peppers to munch on or pickle. Also most herbs, wax beans and blue lake beans (and scarlet runners for the hummingbirds), cukes, zucchini, lemon squash, three different kinds of eggplant, and four varieties of tomatoes. About the only thing I don't grow is corn because I grow everything on Earth Boxes on my rather spacious deck. But I long for a garden like yours. Maybe someday I'll get to have one!
Hurray!!! Congrats on the awesome garden!!! Could maybe plant some spinach too for your wonderful spanakopita recipe. Yumminess!!!
Liziqi smiles watching this. I hope one day I have my own kitchen garden. You inspire many people. 😍
Wow John your kitchen garden is truly a heaven. Loved it so much. 👏👏
I love your garden. I'm a victory gardener, I live in Socal and I couldn't imagine not gardening. Lucky you! So beautiful! You're lucky because you get to grow more produce year round. Cooler weather is more forgiving and allows more produce to grow than in summer.
The espalier trees are absolutely gorgeous❣️
Can you please give us an update on your garden? Also could you explain about testing the soil? Your home is so beautiful, truly an inspiration!
Oh my goodness! Your garden and home are goals! Love your whole vision! You totally inspire!
Next to your deserts, your garden is the next best thing! Love it.
i have a question: how do you get rid of pests and bugs that nibble at your plants?
IJust add water to a spray bottle and a tablespoon of dish soap. Mix and spray the plants. Works all the time for me!
@@rosieshome5368 would that not destroy the chlorophyll of the plants?
Lemon grass sprays could also help, but there are flowers that you can keep around your garden that bugs don't care for like Marigolds and Lavender.
Olive oil, I honestly don’t know. I’ve done it for years, my plants still grow healthy and my veggies are just fine.
Put garlic and chili peppers in some water, let boil for a while and then sift. Spraying it over my plants works really well every time.
I just found your channel a couple of months ago. Its fabulous. And this kitchen garden. I have no words. Well maybe. Oh my gosh. Incredible. Thank you.

I love how the garden looks!!!!
Thank you!!
You are so lucky. I love planting seeds and then seeing what it produces and then eating the harvest.
This is beautiful. My mom would be so happy with a kitchen garden, thank you John for this amazing inspiration.
😊👍✨It's Goals. But please document the how's, why's, what's, when's of gardening and how to work on a green thumb 🍃💚
Your kitchen garden is both so beautiful and so perfect, all at the same time.
And you are an ASMR tingle-head, too .... Oh, I love it !!!!!!
So strange seeing John outside his kitchen I just assume he has a nice bed under the sink and everything 😅
So idyllic, the garden in that place at the top of the hill ❤️ Love it
Great garden! Are you planning to do any canning or drying out of your herbs, if so will you film it?
There are no words to say how wanderful it is
I’ve always wanted to try fried green tomatoes.
How will you keep nasty bugs from eating your beautiful vegetables?
He will likely spray organic pesticides before bugs even attack.
Bell peppers from the garden taste like a whole different veggie. It's a must in my garden.
Wonderful!!!! I'm dieing to see the artichokes when grown
I have a home allotment/kitchen garden… i have for many years grown from raised beds.. i liked the organised manner of growing and also i had dreadful soil and simply couldn’t dig anymore. In the last two years i have gravelled between all the beds and it makes such a difference for weeds, cleanliness and the general look. Only grow what you like and eat is the best advice although each year I grow a new thing from growing gourds to loofahs. Unfortunately we battle against the weather in the UK so i also have a greenhouse for tomatoes, cucumbers, chillies and peppers. Your kitchen garden Is a visual delight and so good for your children to realise where food comes from and how hard it is to produce so food becomes a valuable resource and something that doesn’t magically arrive in the fridge.
Your garden is beautiful! I tried tomatoes but I didnt do well. I would love fresh squash, green peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes but my body cant do all that work anymore and I clearly dont have a green thumb. I am totally jealous. Just beautiful❤️
Thank you Pamela!
Pamela Marsh, this summer, after 4 summers of tomato failure, I tried the two 5 gallon bucket method. You can find directions on youtube. The tomatoes are on my deck which makes it easy to care for. I have so many beautiful tomatoes and peppers this year If you have room, this method might work for you. A tube is in top bucket to bottom bucket and that is your watering place. It is kind of hydroponic. Very little bending over to get the tomatoes. I can't have a garden like John's and this is a nice compromise.
@@kateslippers8289 thank you I will look it up and see if it is something I can do, would be nice to have fresh tomatoes 🍅
Love your veggie garden it looks amazing.
“i don’t know what people are doing, but they’re eating all of my chives” LOLOL
What a beautiful garden. The envy of most of us I would say! Just beautiful 🥰🌱🍆🥬🥒
I love it!!!!!!! How absolutely beautiful. Great idea for our next property. We currently have the raised beds that are waist height and it’s good because yes we have bunnies here and they love to eat everything. 😅🤦🏻♀️
Those bunnies…..
Absolutely, beautiful garden. Martha Stewart might be envious. Love your show. Thank you.
That's amazing
I grew herbs in old deep sinks. We also had some chickens who liked to sunbathe…….and eat some of my herbs. They ate all the chives and sage….. seriously, free range sage and onion flavoured chicken . (We didn’t eat them, they lived a long, happy life). But the thought of Free range herb flavoured chicken made me smile.
Omg I know jealousy is a sin but come ON. THIS IS SO PRETTY 😭
John, I am from India, and i follow your recipient as i am taking baby steps in baking. You are just amazing , the way you embrace your imperfections and down to earth. This garden is dreamy , i would like to meet you when i come to California
Last time I was first on a video… I was watching John make a buttercream rose cake.

This is my dream garden! 🤩 I hope to one day have a nice garden like this, filled with my herbs, vegetables and fruits!
Rhubarb, horseradish, asparagus. Perennial plants for your garden. Hardy and productive. Love to see your take on rhubarb pie, tarts, crisp.
I love watching people living their dreams. Their happiness just oozes out of their pores. Great job with the garden!
What a beautiful garden you have! 👏👏
So happy for you, John! The joy I see on your face is so great. I'd love a garden, and a kitchen, like yours. 👍🙏🤗
What a lovely garden! I do something similar but on a smaller scale. It's wonderful to be able to pick and eat as you go along. Enjoy yourself!
WOW John!!!!!!! Love, Love, Love your house and garden. Well…..I really loved everything I’ve seen so far. Great videos. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us 🥰💕
Wow, I don't know if I love your kitchen or your garden more. I love basil and tomatoes. Easy to grow and delicious for pizzas.
I grow lavender, oregano, basil, lemon mint, spearmint, chives and parley. I use so many spices and herbs when I make my tea, smoothies and more. I especially have to make my frozen fruit smoothie in my Nama with basil and mint. Add about 1/4 to 1/2 lemon, it’s so good.
I skipped planting veggies because we are downsizing for our move to a new home. Love all your videos ❤️
My 93 year old mother in law says gardening keeps her young. My father would say it brought him joy and peace. My mr and I love to garden as well it’s so relaxing and a joy to eat what we have grown
I'd say this garden is definitely a dream garden come true. Looks great.
WOW! What a beautiful addition to your home! Would love to see another garden check in tour as the veggies grow! Enjoy your beautiful outdoor space ☀️
Your garden is stunning…and you’re looking quite dapper in the hat. Thanks for sharing!
Must be nice to have outdoor space for a decent garden. I live in a small condo with no yard - it was all I could afford before I became too sick to work - so I can’t grow much of anything. I would love to grow tomatoes, carrots, green onions, all sorts of peppers, cucumbers, and have a lemon tree. With few windows and very limited space indoors, the best I can manage is a few tiny pots of herbs like mint and basil. I grew up in a house that had a great big garden in the backyard; we used to grow so many cucumbers that we’d make pickles each year, and we had fresh tomatoes nearly year-round because of the warm climate. I miss being able to do that.
Absolutely beautiful garden love it nothing better then fruits and vegetables from a garden the can’t beat it thanks for sharing take care
Looks great one of my favourite vegetables is broad beans in winter and freshly picked green peas in spring-summer especially important to have peas and potatoes for Christmas. Then can't forget sweetcorn in summer-autumn. You can't beat picking your own corn and cooking it straight away. It's the best
Top tip! When you get a good compost bin going, it gives off lots of heat. Cover the top with good straw & plant with zucchini, but be sure to check it every day, it’s like magic how fast they grow! Also, kids love zucchini pasta, so it’s great for your 5 a day!
