I’m a retired elementary teacher, and I didn’t start teaching until I was 47. I student taught in a third grade class. I taught the unit on fractions and took a pan of brownies in and tasked the class with dividing it so everyone in the class got a “ fair share”. There were an odd number of students in the class, so they really had to brainstorm how to make it work. They decided to cut it into more pieces than the number of students and take what was left to the secretary, principal, and janitor. It was a very small school, and it was amazing! I was always very hands on and practical in application. I taught fifth grade and there were only two classrooms. I taught all of the science and always showed them how to apply it to cooking. One of my former students is now a chef!! Now that I’m retired and have a huge new kitchen, I’m cooking and baking a lot! I used to decorate cakes, but I’m not now. Too busy playing pickleball, crafting, sewing, and playing in my kitchen!

i do them as a savory dish for the aperitif, with either green or red pesto and shredded cheese, or cream cheese and smoked salmon, it is delish and always gets great praise from guests
Wow that is really a good idea!! Do you still put the butter on each disc of dough before adding pesto and cheese? Do you put anything on the top after baked in place of the powdered sugar or in my case a glaze?
@@sharonpults1177 i don't put any butter on the dough, i put first the shredded cheese (very important, otherwise the pesto turns a bit liquidy and on the dough it is not great) and then the pesto. I don't put anything on the top after the baking is done, but i reckon you could sprinkle some herbs for decoration
I'm getting up there in age and I've decided that when I retire I want to take up baking as my hobby and bring the things I make to homeless shelters and nursing homes. I'm not retirement age yet, but I'm watching your videos already so I can learn from the best.
Sadly you need to check local laws. Legally you open yourself to lawsuits. I know the owner of a multi million $$ catering company - I asked why they gave all unused food to pig farmers. "Local laws" are the reason. Chances of liability, etc. Just FYI. (Personally I think your idea is great but I also see the liability.We live in an attorney controlled Country.👎 Oh, and kitchens....must meet code. Seamless stainless steel counters are the cheapest.
@SledDog5678 I understand what you're saying. I live near a group home right now and I've asked the people who work there if it's ok to bring food to the residents. Do any of them have food allergies, etc. I want to be very careful.
I just made this delicious bread I am amazed how beautiful and easy this recipe is. We are decorating and putting up our tree and couldn't of asked for a better more perfect treat. The house smells delightful and the bread is the star of the show. Thank you!

This star bread looks wonderful and you made it so easy to understand how to achieve the look. Too many goodies already made for Thanksgiving but this would make a wonderful addition at Easter. The dough and cinnamon filling are identical to Swedish cinnamon buns, which is a masterpiece in itself. More filling keeps it moist and does not let it dry out the next day.
Made this but with chai spice as the filling. I used 1/4 teaspoon of cardamom, all spice, nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger blended together. Then added that spice blend to 5 tablespoons of sugar. Turned out AMAZING!

I just baked the most delicious dough with this recipe last night - thank you for posting the recipe. I made a savory pizza bread with roasted garlic butter, cheese, and pepperoni. For those interested in making a plant based version of this I substituted half a banana for the egg in the recipe and used a plant based butter substitute. They turn out fabulous. Thank you so much for the wonderful recipe John!
I made a savoury version of this for Easter (I called it Flower-Bread), with onion and carrot filling and sesame on top, it was so good and everyone thought it was so pretty :) For something so easy, it always gets all the wow's because it's so cute :D

Love, Love, Love this recipe!! I've made it several times now. You mentioned using cocoa and sugar combo in place of the cinnamon sugar combo along with orange zest. I want to make that for my quilting group. How much zest do you think? The zest of one orange? Also when I made the star bread I "painted" on a light powered glaze....so very good. Importantly would you still use the butter on each layer before you put the cocoa, sugar filling??

I've done this before and it IS easy and delicious. I did mine with cranberry and orange zest which is divine.
I made two. One cinnamon sugar and one with Nutella. It would be great if you could give savory and other sweet fillings. You are an amazing teacher.
