Funny thing, Unicorn Full Armor ver ka is my 1st MG, building it wasn't tough, it was the massive decals that can be tough, stuck some crooked, some upside down but all in all it was fun and a good experience, no regret. Banshee Ver ka is the next one am gonna build 😂

hahaha one of the first kits I first got was the FA Unicorn, it wasn't too bad. I did expect it to be a brick though and I was very burnt out the Unicorn putting decals on everything, dry transfers especially. I'm also surprised transforming kits haven't made the list, one of my first MG's was the zeta plus c1 and its wait section was horrible. Could barely stand (*shudder*).

If you get an original MG Exia made in 2009 then it has some terrible joint issues and the GN Drive being prone to falling out. If you get a more recent production then by all accounts its very solid.

    • @cravin4acupofcoffee

I have the Avalanche Exia. Which is just the standard MG Exia with extra parts. The Exia is all around pretty good, I like it and it looks great all built up. The only complaints I would have are that the front skirts are a lil annoying. They have 2 points of articulation to get them out of the way so the leg can go all the way up, but they can be finnicky. The main sword on mine snapped from the handle. I wasn't being gentle with it, but just be aware of that part possibly breaking. The GN cables can get in the way of articulation, especially the side to side on the chest, so I trimmed it slightly so it can move more. I used the eye stickers and they look ok, but they lack depth. Otherwise everything's pretty cool! The GN condensers are awesome in person. OH. THE MOST ANNOYING THING. The GN Drive and how it slots into the chest. I don't have LEDs in mine yet so they're hollow, and it disconnects every now and then when I try to pose it. It's definitely not perfect, but I also don't understand the hate it gets sometimes, it has fairly good articulation and it looks great. I do hope they make a new one with the new frames, but it still looks good amongst the Dynames and Kyrios.

I have 3 issues with the mg exia, but I think it's a good kit.
1 - the shoulder is a pain because of the gn cable, it keeps pushing the arm down, it's frustrating to build and I hate attaching it to the torso
2 - the sword attachment on the leg falls of all the time, if I dare look at it (maybe it's a problem of my kit, because it only happens on one side)
3 - the big sword (I forgot the name) is another pain to attach
But overall I like the kit, I even got an avalanche exia after finishing the trans am version

Imho for beginner in gunpla should taste MG first, then try another grades, why? because although difficult at first they see bunch of parts, but, manual books is so clear how to build it, and parts is bigger. But my opinion only works for beginner in gunpla with age start from 10 yo....MG would give them a lots of taste, and experience that would trigger their creativity when they taste HG, RG or EG...and Zeon's MG or Fed Grunts unit should taste first because Gundam so boring with same pattern to build it....

I'd also give the Crossbones a mention just because while they havent aged as bad as the older kits on this list, they suffer from a lot of structural issues, missing colors and lackluster details for a ver ka. I do like my X3 but it is a flawed kit that could use an update like they did for the F91, which needed an update less than the Crossbone.

    • @RKan3
      @RKan3 3 года назад

One of the nice parts of the hobby is that there aren't many strict rules on what qualifies a beginner or advanced builder. It mostly just boils down to one's own comfort level or confidence when building kits and general experience with the tools and techniques.
You would probably be considered an intermediate level builder when you feel comfortable with building more complex kits like Ver Ka's and have experience with cleaning and sanding parts. An advanced builder would likely be someone who's comfortable with further cusomizing their models through painting, seam line removal, and modifying parts.
The qualifications tend to change depending on who you're asking so don't worry too much about labels, just focus on having a good time and always feel free to experiment or move outside your comfort zone. Every model is a new learning experience to try something different, regardless of how it turns out.

Mine will hold it up quite well up front but to the side and it will start to droop. It's not a very difficult kit to build and is ok for beginners but yeah the joint stability might be disappointing.

I have to disagree about the older versions of the Zeta and especially the ZZ and Variants.
The ZZ Master Grade really holds up. It's almost as articulated as the Ver. Ka, the joints are solid, and the Full Armor version gives you the Enhanced ZZ without having to track down the P-Bandai version. They're also both way less expensive than the Ver. Ka, and in my opinion they look far better proportionally. They really capture the beefiness of the ZZ, with the super wide torso and chunky legs. The Ver. Ka is a fantastic kit, but it's not the ZZ I remember from the show.

This seems like a good list! The Victory Gundam Ver. Ka was one of my first Gundam kits back when I first got into the hobby. Doing the waterslide decals took AGES and it is always threatening to fall apart when you pose it. But boy, when you find the pose you want and get it situated, it looks NICE. It also has incredible color separation. Unless you're doing custom colors, I don't think there's any need to paint it.
As a dedicated lover of the Sentinel Gundam and all of its ridiculous variants, I love the fact that the Deep Striker does nothing. People in the past would buy resin kits of the Deep Striker for big bucks. Those don't transform or pose. But people still shelled out for them because they were awesome! I think it really helps if you get into building non-Gundam miniatures. You learn to appreciate how a static pose can provide a compelling visual.

Beginners can build any of these kits without too much trouble, the complication only comes from too much overthinking and worrying about nonsense titles like Beginner or Noob. If you're brain functions you can build these, they even give you pictures, stop trying to over complicate things and get to building. These are vastly different from HG to PG so starting with HG thinking that somehow prepares you for stuff not included in the HG kits later is a brain dead way of looking at this. If high part counts intimidate you then that's where the decision lies, aside from that no one gundam grade prepares you for the next in any real sense, it's just how much you wish to tolerate when it comes to fiddling lol. Great video!

I'd tell beginner to avoid any MGs based on this guidelines:
    1. Any Transformable Kits (zeta, delta plus), wrong cut or broke some parts, probably will make transformations not sturdy or fail to do so.
    2. Any Gold Plating, or those with fancy finish (Titanium Finish, or even clear part), if you cant clear the nubs, it will leave marks that haunts you forever.
    3. Kits with yen price above 7000 yen (more expensive kits usually has more parts to deal with)
    4. P Bandai kits 😛 its expensive, you dont want to make it as junk.
Thats all I could think of, what do u think?

This video TLDR: avoid all old MG kits.
TBH these are all just personal preference list. There's no BAD or WORST MG kits.
Buy whatever MG kit you feel like to buy & just enjoy building it. The worst MG kits are the ones you cannot afford to buy & build properly.
If the kit you wanna buy is over your budget, then don't be impulsive & buy it 'just because' it's the better one. Old MG kits are cheap & still good especially when fully painted & built, if you know how to overcome the issues.
Additionally, as a collector, once you amassed a lot of model kits, you'll face the problem of having lack of space to display them. Most modern MG kits have lots of gimmicks to show off, but when you don't have enough space to show it, most likely you'll just display it in a basic standing pose anyway.
If you are a collector & plan to display a lot of MG suits in your display with lack of space & doesn't care about gimmicks, then just get the old MG kits.

My nephew started in this hobby with one of (if not the) worst MG to pick just because he thought it was awesome (I should know, I bought the kit for him as a Mid-school graduation present). MG EX-S Gundam

Lol literally doing the Gouf custom as my first kit since I was a child, but as an adult this time. Though, I'm only doing it because I like that particular suit and it's from my favorite show, so I'm not doing it for diorama making or the challenge or anything

Thanks for the list. I kinda interesting in FA Unicorn & Deep Striker after saw their box art but after I researched. The price is scary and you said it is much of a brick or statue that can only standing on the shelf (menacingly). I decided not to buy them.
