    For the landing gear being pushed into the foam problem: I took a few small squares of regular paper towels, positioned them between the plastic and fuselage, soaked it in super glue and it is now an extremely hard layer that the plastic can't penetrate. Works well.

    • @backyardscaler
      @backyardscaler Год назад +2

      Good idea, I used white gorilla glue tape, it’s been solid ever since, just cut small pieces to go underneath fuselage.

    I finally had the courage to madien my new umx timber evolution this weekend on my brand new NX8, so a double madien. I've only been flying for about 2 months. Started on the apprentice stol. Ive stopped crashing that and developed muscle memory on the sticks hence my courage to try this one. All I can say is this plane and the transmitter are absolutely sensational. I set it up exactly as the manual but I found that I needed high rates straight away. It flies so slow even without the slats fitted I could pluck it out of the sky if i wanted to. I also have the optional floats which I haven't tried yet. I started out on the 2's battery but today I also tried the 3s. For now I will stick with the 2's because it is less responsive to throttle on the smaller battery and easier to fly slowly. Thanks for your great review of this plane which helped me make the decision to buy this plane and also the nx8 from previous videos. If anyone has been sitting on the fence wondering if they should buy it or not for goodness sake go and get one get one, you will definitely not be disappointed. I've just ordered the unx air tractor too. 👍

      Thank you for your testimonial! YOU are the exact person we're trying to reach!!! "Out of the chair - into the air" - and in 2-3 years, you'll be buying and flying WHATEVER YOU WANT ;) It's gonna be so much fun! Cherish these early days of knowing how to fly, they are some of the best in the RC experience.
      ...and KEEP AT IT! Time on the sticks is going to help reinforce your very limited muscle memory, and soon, you'll not even "think" about it at all...it's WEIRD when that happens...you will only make a mistake when you "Think about it" - and when this happens, I hope you remember this strange, off the wall comment, and laugh out loud!
      Good luck, and thanks for being here with us!

    Hey Brian - I had exactly the same trim issues out of the box that you did. After seeing you mechanically adjust the rudder and elevator I sat down to do mine. I inadvertently bumped the elevator control rod while holding it with the pliers and it popped off the knuckle!! Just a quick tip on awkwardness with doing work on your TT UMX. If you take the top piece of styrofoam and flip it over, you can put your UMX upside down onto it and it makes a great platform to do work on it safely.

    You saved my plane. On the maiden last year, my UMX Timber leaped into a porpoise on takeoff and nearly did a peter pan into the asphalt. Was in the fight of my life to land it. Had no idea mechanical trim was a thing until I saw this video. I would've just ripped off the slats, I'm glad I didn't. Order placed!
    I do appreciate your effort to teach basic things for new folks. Charging is alway a mystery to folks, and is the one thing you need to do right AND respect. Charging is the one thing that will burn your house down if abused. How do I know? Back at the beginning of Lipos I came close to starting a garage fire due to an accident setting up a charger that didn’t have a balance port (they were just coming into existence). Fortunately I stopped charging when I saw the puff and got worried, I set battery in driveway to be safe. 1 min later, a pop and then a massive blue hot flame that would have set my garage ablaze. Lesson learned.
    1C standard charging, and storing batteries at 3.8ish/cell in cool place like small fridge gives you years of use.
    Keep up the great service!

    I flew the UMX TT and the Skipper in double digit winds yesterday from the boat. You just have to land down wind to get her back. I think reverse thrust would only sink the tail. I don't even use reverse thrust on the only water plane I have with it built in (Avios Albatross v2). I also think 3S is just silly on this plane. UMX Timber X, yes. But not the TT. Still, that shows how good the UMX Turbo Timber really is. Fresh lipstick is all they could come up with to "evolve" it. LOL. As luck would have it, I prefer the red.

    It's a bit late but it looks like your leading edge slats are touching the wing on the trailing edge. The slats are supposed to stand off the wing and allow air to pass under them. This slows the air over the wing creating more lift.

    Hey Brian, i watched your 2hour and 36minute video on the E-flite Slow Ultra Stick 1.2mm bnf basic with AS3X and SAFE select.... by the time it was done, i wanted more..... great job on the servo mode.... i have a quick question, i noticed on this video when you set the dual rates and expo you put 100% rate 5% expo on high rate
    100% rate 10% expo on mid rate and
    90% rate 20% expo on low rate
    My question is did you mean to put 90% on low rate instead of 70% because im following everything you did, i just wanted to make sure that is what you meant to do....thanks , i just bought this plane and a E-flite 800mm draco and heading over to that video next..... thank you for your detailed explanation, i truly appreciate it. @BrianPhillipsRC  2 месяца назад

      Thanks for the kind words regarding the length of the video ;)
      AND, yes, the low rates are MORE expo plus almost all the rates. This gives you authority if you pull the stick all the way back, but the center is "softer" in the "lower" rates.
      You did say how I set them correctly. This is kinda my "standard" setup, but it and anyone else's setup will be somewhat subjective, so take it worth a grain of salt. You might want MORE expo or LESS rates, but we're trying to hit a good starting point for most.

    Yo brian. Just setting up my umx evo, and my flap settings in the manual are the opposite to what yours say. When deploying flaps, should the elevator compensate by going up or down?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  5 месяцев назад +1

      The elevator will compensate for inboard flaps, like on this plane, by pointing the tip of the elevator down...aka making the nose point down.
      Here's another way of thinking about it...
      When you deploy the flaps, the plane will naturally start "ballooning" or flying up. We want to counteract this asap, and in a nice linear fashion to kinda match the speed of the flaps deployment. This will help the plan to fly straight and level, and slow down, if all other controls are set.
      If you're not sure the elevator is moving the right way, set the elevator compensation WAY HIGHER and see what direction it moves, then set it to the called out value in the manual.
      Good luck - you got this. This is easy once you GET IT...I promise.

    In preflight check right aileron servo freeze issue was resolved by a gentle pinch of the servo housing to wake it up and it would be good for the entire flight. But then odd flight behaviors became more prevalent which I attributed to wind variance. I set the max to 97%. That's not it. I don't want to crack the fuselage to replace the right servo but what choice do I have? I hope there's a fix you see that I don't

First flight lasted only seconds and if it is repairable it will probably require some new foam. I put the CG right on 28mm and the plane was uncontrollably tail-heavy. Even you crashed. Reminds me of the debacle with the UMX Timber X where they moved the CG several mm. I'm so disappointed right now, to put it mildly. Saw another guy's video on this plane and he put the real CG at 35mm and it flew great.

    Tail heavy talked about over confidence. I flew the UMX TTE in 10 MPH winds with 22MPH gusts and it was the hottest day this year ie thermals were a factor. It was a mistake. Still at the stage where... You'll know it when you take off and immediately think what have I done? Your instinct will be to just land and call it a day. Here's my takeaway. Takeoff and do repeated base to final. But it would not descend in the headwind. So I got it hanging there with forward pressure on elevator. Realize, we're still in takeoff flaps. Flip the switch, maintaing throttle and elevator and the UMX TTE came down like an elevator, touched down like a daisy. But I should've never taken off in the conditions today.
