Have about 20 flights on my UMX Timber Evo, great little plane. I'm very new at RC flying so steep learning curve, I find that this plane has no bad habits to speak of. I use AX3X on expert mode with a 3s battery. Thanks for the great video

I've never been a "precision priority" RC pilot (ha) so, I put a thin coat of epoxy on the wing edges that touch asphalt (or similar) on landings - really helps reduce the wing damage when dragging a wing tip. Just my opinion but when flying in a field, I almost always hand-launch and then "spot land" on the grass (cutting power just before touching down). Nice videos - thank you - keep going!

Still my favorite umx EVER so far. They took the beloved umx turbo timber and literally listened to the customer base and updated the areas we wanted improved. The ONLY thing I wish would be implemented is the ability to use the fwd programming or just get into the brick and have the freedom we have with other receivers but that can hardly be counted against it or as a negative.

Great and very thorough review. Glad I watched this for the second time - couldn't decide on putting on the slats or not but will now mount them based on your review. The model came back in stock about 2 weeks ago and so I picked one up. I've flown it 4-5 times now (without slats) and like the EVO much better than both the UMX TT and X.
One thing I've noticed is that I need to place my battery noticeable further forward than you place yours in order to get the recommended CG. I also had to do a manual trim of two turns on the ball link of the rudder in order to bring it into line with the vertical stabilizer.

    • @holdfastrc
      @holdfastrc Год назад

I've got a wing with slats and one without lol. I also fly with my battery closer to middle of the tray or to the front as well and out of the box I required max elevator trim to stop "dogtracking" in the air but the mechanical adjustments fixed her right up. My flaps were also not centered and I still have to work them a bit to get them aligned and they'll stay there for a flight or 2 but then I have to adjust again. I think the only way to remedy it completely will be splitting the fuse and manually adjusting at the hinge

There is a whimsical dude on youtube who also films RC flight, but he refers to his wife holding the camera as the camera crew, instead of wife. Holding the camera is an important job and camera crew gives the job its official recognition that it is an important job. But, wife is also ok, as that is also an impt job.

Most 2s lipos in the 300mah range weigh the same as the Spektrum 300mah 3s lipo used on this plane. Approx. 20-23g. There isn't going to be any more wing loading with a 3s batt of this size as compared to a 2s of the same size.

I've been buying foam planes for a min.
I have 3d planes like the eflight 1.1 sukhoi I paid like $179 and it is BNF (I wish they'd do a UMX high quality model Suhoi in the worst way) I have a Horizon Hobby Viking (thats an OG) that I think I paid 100 bucks for BNF as well (some of these, BNF gave you batteries at one point to as well as a small charger most times, now it doesn't give u shit).
Point is, the prices are crazy nowadays.
I get it, but start a production plant here.
It'd be a huge investment, but man, if it was done right, someone can be making all the American consumer versions of every rc model sold here.
Its 200 bucks, for a plane that if you sneeze wrong it will break.
I have a UMX corsair. Looks cool. By far the absolute worst, UMX plane I have ever purchased.
Never crashed it, never mishandled it.
Half the plane just doesn't operate.
    Very sad plane.
So it makes wonder, for guys like me, that don't abuse my planes, but also dont have the time to check on them everyday or fly them very often, I want it to work even if it didn't touch it for 6 months as long as its stored correctly it should.

The X doesn't even have flaps and is the only umx timber that's primarily geared towards that 3d performance and it does very well at it

Had to post after about 50 flights. The servo on my right aileron failed and i almost lost the plane. I have purchased four umx planes and now have had two of them have aileron servo failure. As for this new umx Turbo Timber Evolution, I was already having trouble with the motor not working every now then while flying. I had contacted hobbytown where I purchased it, and they said they couldnt help me. Now that the aileron servo has failed, I can't fly it until I replace it. So, Eflite has had a 50% success rate for me. I will never buy another umx plane again. Their quality control has some serious issues going on. That being said, i loved flying this plane when the motor wasn't cutting out and before the aileron servo completely failed and got stuck in the upright position.

Mine done the same thing and committed suicide on the neighbors new metal roof. Glue it all back together, but ripped flap lead from board so they will never work again. But replaced prop adapter and She still flies!

Well, anyone want one at a lower price I’m up in Canada and I just put mine for sale. Unlike many others, I guess I don’t like how these things fly at all and they look like some kind of monstrous bird. Also, a bush plane doing all kind of aerobatics just doesn’t seem realistic to me and I don’t like their flight characteristics, always pitching up not to mention the cheap tape they use on the rudder. I swore off UMX and got sucked into this one but it will be the last one. Give me the UMX Ultrix over this any day. In fact, its is the only one from that line that I really enjoy and that’s relatively maintenance free and easy to repair if you need to, which is rarely as they’re well built.

@@TwoBrosRC Well you like what you like I guess, more power to you guys. Maybe if it wouldn’t have kept pitching up etc. Surfaces seemed level? Anyhow definitely a plane in demand. I sold it almost right after I posted. Any thoughts on the pitching up issue and or set up tips would be appreciated should I run I to a similar situation. Cheers.

@@stevejohnston8543 If you're using a battery outside the recommended 300mah pack, that could cause it.

@@TwoBrosRC No I was using the suggested 3S smart battery, and it was up front. Must be other reasons why it wanted climb and stall, and it flew really lousy with flaps and it was all set up according to the manual. Surely you guys have sim idea?

@@TwoBrosRC 70cm wing is not a micro, there is much smaller, eg. dart250g with 57cm or spirit micro wing with 47cm (still not micro). I was looking for 15-30cm wings plane, couldn't find any.

@@fippobak It isn't a zero-sum game. Horizon Hobby classifies it as a UMX model - Ultra Micro eXtreme. This is why it's titled the way it is.
