Great vid you two. Good luck on your travels. I need to take my folding bike (oritatami jitensha) back to Kyoto area before the tourists come back. Nice and peaceful.
Cycling on a cloudy day has it's own beauty. The colors are vivid in a different way.
Yes, and the GoPros are getting better at capturing video on cloudy days :)
Thank you for the vid, it's really beautiful! Love Japan: the urban landscape is peppered with low-mid rise gray/ brown non-descript buildings and very clean streets! And you rarely hear the sound of car horns, amazing country!
Wow stunning and great scenery thanks for sharing
Thank you for the tour and inspiration. We will explore on two wheels as well.
Thanks for bringing us along! Great video!
Glad you enjoyed!
Nice! Watched the video and now I want to check out the bamboo forest. I plan to do this or similar route when I visit Kyoto in a couple of weeks!
Enjoy! It's a beautiful area
Have done that ride quite a few times - quite nice on a sunny day!
nice ride again..Rural area in a fast moving place..i love it!
Thanks 👍
Strangely enough, this ride seemed more appropriate on the folding bikes. They were less intrusive and seemed easier to navigate the crowded paths..
They are much more suited towards these rides, and people seem less hostile to them compared to a road bike, especially when we're in normal clothes.
Thank you a lot for providing these videos, this was my favourite pastime while I was in Japan - to cycle and visit places. Hopefully in the future it opens up properly and I can start working there. I've never seen Vietnam in this kind of format, more raw and in less touristy areas, so it will be a nice thing to see - good luck with your move.
Thanks 👍
Recently found you guys and been watching the past uploads, too! I'm a casual cyclist (with a folding bike, not Brompton, though!) and originally from Japan (born in Kyoto!). 🇯🇵 Sad to see you leaving Japan, but good luck with your move to Thailand! I'm based in Singapore where folding bikes are super popular. 😅
Thanks 👍 These bikes are actually from Singapore
@@TwoWheelCruise Oh, yes, Mobot, right? Their main shop is within walking distance from my place. 😄
Nice video and scenery again👍...Hey i had a same design bike as yours.. mine is a Pikes. Nice ride
Thanks 👍
Cool. Thanks for the video. We were there a few years ago and coincidentally bumped into my local car dealer from home (Europe). We had a fantastic lunch and are still amazed and laughing about this coincidental "meeting" over 10.000km from home:)
Wow, that's a nice coincidence!
The bamboo forest looked so strange and unfamiliar compared to what I am used to in England , more like a giant palissade than a wood ! This was a very varied, busy ride, which must have taken a lot of concentration to keep going through the many potential obstacles
on your way.
Thanks! Definitely hard to stay focused on riding at times haha
Nice to have the bicycle lanes separated from pedestrians. Keep both parties safe 👍
Oww... @31:19 you guys ride past the entrance to one of my absolute favourite temple/gardens -in Japan- , Tenryu-ji (aka 90% of my desktop screen backgrounds...) 🙏
On those bike(y)-paths full of obstacles and pedestrians it's very hard for your riding partner to see what's coming up ahead, hand signals make it a lot easier (hence @19:36... 😊)
Haven't actually gone in there 😅
I'm kinda sad the Japan vlogs are probably winding down. But can't wait what you feature next in Thailand!
A few more to go ;)
Cycling Tracks in Japan is well organized.
You should check out the _Quad Lock_ system for mounting either your cycling computer or cell phone
Thanks!
What do you use the navigate? Google maps doesn't work for bicycling in Kyoto :(
What is the furthest ride have you done with the Royale foldie ?
Cruise. Cool ride .SHIGA is rad urban riding is krypt .I don’t know about Thai. Keep the MTB.
what have you found in the differences between the royale and brompton? Was thinking about getting one these for travel.
I haven't ridden Bromptons long enough to compare, but no problems with the Royale yet.
one thing that i always noticed about japan when watching your cycling videos, no matter how small the road maintainance or whatever construction, no matter if it's in the big cities or countryside, they always have enough manpower there to warn people and control the traffic, sometimes in my country they just put up a warning sign or a safety dummy.
Sometimes they do have robotic dummys as warnings before construction areas, but usually they use people
I just love watching y’all’s videos
Thanks! :)
What inch are the wheels of your bike?
Do you guys still have these folding bikes or you guys sold it after you move out of japan?
We still have them
I wish you had someone of a map lol ... been trying to figure out how to do this bike ride but seems like google maps does not have a bike option
same here! I will be going tomorrow even though i am a beginner cyclist and just pray hard i don't get lost trying to find the katsuragawa cycling route to arashiyama LOL
Thanks for the video, great camera quality too! The view is beautiful, can't believe how clean the streets are. Seems like you would have to know your way to navigate around kyoto, since I don't spot any direction arrows like the previous video?
We checked google maps every once in a while, but it's easy when you're following rivers.
You both always make the best videos.
Thanks Andy :)
@@TwoWheelCruise you’re welcome
A hotel? Yikes! That's gotta cost! Question, are there any airbnb in Japan?
hotels are extremely cheap now, as are Airbnb's. like 3000 yen. with love from Kyoto
Hotels are not so bad now, usually about 4,000 yen per night for the 2 of us in the city.
Arashiyama is the best! Very relaxing to visit. You are lucky to be able to bike around in not crowded with people! I would love to bike around there someday, too.
Thuong went a few months ago and no one was there. Still not too bad now :)
I cycled around around Arashiyama in November just before the virus hit and it was completely packed with people. Looks much more pleasant at the moment, more like when i first visited it ~10 years ago.
It's a lot better with less people around :)
I notice Thuong-chan shifted the right shifter(Internal gear hub) while pedalling at the 21:47 mark. It's recommended to pause pedalling momentarily when shifting on the right(Sturmey Archer SRF3), while for the external 2 cogs(Left shifter), continue pedalling when shifting.
Great video. Looking forward to visiting Japan again either as a tourist or on a work trip.
Thanks for noticing that, I'll give her a warning 😅
This is true 😛
Tuong is a beast! Passing bike after bike.
sugoi!!! love and miss the place
Beautiful area :)
Do you find Japanese made bikes over there or are they mostly made in China?
No, there are very few bikes actually made in Japan
Looking good. How's the Royale so far? Does it ride similar to a Brompton?
Been great so far! We've only done short rides on Brompton bikes, so hard to compare.
ARMS!!!!
😁😁😁😁😁
hello! I’m a new subscriber from Singapore and can I just say it’s crazy that you guys do not need a bell on your bike. 😂 I’ve just only learnt about the cycling etiquette in Japan through your videos and while I know you have mentioned that the general rule is that pedestrians have the right of way, the fact that they walk in straight lines, do not suddenly turn or stop really helps us cyclists as well. In Singapore, if you do not have a bell, I can foresee many accidents or yelling from pedestrians (even though they are the ones who are not walking properly). While we are allowed to cycle on the pavement, roads and share the park connectors with others, we are still getting so much shit everyday from everyone. I really hope one day Singapore can be as bicycle friendly as Japan!
Pedestrians are the priority in Japan. There is a lot of animosity towards cyclists here as well though, especially with hikers towards mountain bikers.
The Japanese seem to have the road systems sussed out well. Cycling on UK sidewalks/pavements can get attention from the cops. Cyclepaths in some cities has improved a lot and many towns, but some areas are really bad for cyling with dangerous drivers, some even aim to hurt cyclists. Do Japanese cyclists hail to each? it's mixed here, some don't most do though. We don't have Jaywalking but you take your life in your hands if you mess with traffic. What are they growing there? Are they just mountains or volcanoes too? Those little bikes are handy, i wouldn't be able to bring my tourer there, it's too big and with a trailer too. No helmets? One things for sure, the state of those roads are like ours.
Thanks for sharing very nicely Japan Cycling Tour,..I enjoy the view,
I Support Subbed Your Channel Let's Stay Connected
Another neat video. My wife has had no real interest in traveling to Asia, but after watching your videos for many months, she now wants to visit Japan! BTW...I would have had to stop and check out Harry's Coffee, Latte & Hotdogs! LOL @35:58
That's great she became interested! Lots of great places to see in Japan :)
I don't like the raised curb on the left...
:D
Nice bike ride you two. Love the train go by. Thanks for sharing...🎥😃👍👌👊🚴♂️🚴♀️🚝❤
Thanks for watching!
Oh god I miss Japan!... And I so want a folding bike...
Good combo!
@@TwoWheelCruise oh, I so meant to ask: do you still like the tascam audio recorder? I'm thinking of getting one.
@@VagabondTurtle Yep, it's great! We've got 2
@@TwoWheelCruise great, I'm gonna get one too then :)
I really enjoy a bike ride in an area not dominated by cars. Very peaceful.
Agreed!
Thuong is awesome, at least Kyoto and Tokyo use the same five letters 😂
Fair enough 😂
Your videos have sold me. I need to get a folding bike.
They're really convenient!
Interesting channel for Koreans~~
Whats the top speed on these bikes and how many miles before you get tired on them? I want to bring a foldable bike to japan and travel with it :p
On flats, they're about as fast as a road bike :) If you have a good position, you don't get too tired
Great video. Thanks. Noticed no helmets. Did you forget them or decided to get into the Japanese way of doing things? I presume helmets are not legally necessary in Japan.
Thanks! We were doing a lot of walking today, so we decided not to bring them.
Japan is the country that i wish to live for the rest of my life but only in my dream cos I cannot afford to live in that beautiful country with nice people.
Angelito my friend from Guatemala and I hung out yesterday and he made many comments about how affordable it is here. May your wishes come true and you can come live here!
It's a great place to live, but it is a bit expensive at times.
Why not "Thoung Walk Tv"? with this name, she can film whatever place in the world she is ♥
Thanks! This is a good one we are considering.
Welcome to Kyoto! I live in Arashiyama, near Saga-Arashiyama Station. lmk if you're down for a ride together before you leave.
Thanks! We've left already :(
I rode from Kyoto station to Arashiyama through through some busy commercial and residential areas last time I visited. Should've taken this route instead!
I found cycling in Kyoto paradoxically safer and risky at the same time. There are bike paths and lots of people (elderly, moms, students) riding for transportation. But the paths can be narrow or people just ride on the sidewalk, so you need to maneuver around lots of pedestrians and other cyclists.
It's a weird mix of lots of "bike paths", but lots to watch out for and aggressive buses.
Helmet?
8:54 at least you still see the Colonel Sanders mascot, when was the last time you've seen Ronald McDonald.
He's here too sometimes
This was one of the best ”cultural” cycling videos! So much happening and different kind of things to note; urban, nature, cultural, people… nice! Highlighting three.
”Face diapers” everyone! Even You had while cycling.. what an Earth is this!? Crazy! Just crazy… then there were those four workers at around 27 minutes cutting grass; two holding plastic covers because possible flying little stones while two doing job and helmets on.. safety first, but this is just crazy safety.. and also american culture with You noting ”lots of cyclists” when there has been just a couple.
So much to see in this video! Man pulled carriages, bowing wellcome worker at park entry, people clothing, bad shape roads and bridge (usually all in Japan are in tip top shape!), housing (with poor conditions), traffic, etc…….
Like said; great cultural video! Thanks!!
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Japan is one of the safest countries in the world and it may be overkill or annoying at times, but the results don't lie.
- Japan covid19 deaths per million: 145 vs 2,300 in the USA (16x more likely to die in USA)
- almost 0 accidents on the high speed bullet train
Also, we don't mind the masks. They are normal in Asia and are actually more comfortable to ride with during cooler weather since they warm up the cooler air and block bugs / some pollution 😅
@@TwoWheelCruise I would've worn them when I was riding my bike to work during winter but it just made my glasses fog up or fall off. XD I don't necessarily like wearing masks but it's not that big of a deal. (Face diapers lmao) Also were you planning to make a cut in the part where you stopped talking? I've seen a few times where you did that or restarted your sentence and forgot to cut it out or something lol
Did you guys sell your car already?
Sold it long ago
Thuong could just call her channel "Walk The World TV-Japan'" and then just change the country name to where you're at currently 😁
Good idea! We were thinking of changing the channel name every time we move haha
Is i Mobot cycle
I thought you guys were leaving Japan...It's not so bad after all, I suppose
Nice attempt at sarcasm. We're already in Thailand, these videos were filmed a few weeks ago. We've said all along that we love Japan, but didn't feel comfortable investing our futures there until they allow dual citizenship.
@@TwoWheelCruise I'll await your "Why most foreigners leave Thailand" video with great anticipation. Best of health to you both
I can't wait. Every one of these bike rides in Japan gave me a headache. Narrow, choppy lanes and endless poles, curbs, fences. Ugggg. Not much chance to enjoy scenery or nice yards.
I have ZERO inclination to go there. Maybe it's just because the semi rural areas are like this. Imagine riding that in the dark, NOT.
I rode up 3/4 of Vietnam and 1000 miles in SW China. I did ride every mile from HoiAn to DaFang, 100 miles west of GuiYang. I absolutely liked all of it. I never used 20 words in either language. LOL.
@@GordoGambler I recommend a motorcycle. I have a CL72 Honda and have ridden throughout Japan. There are some great roads through the mountains and along the coast of the Pacific Ocean as well as the Sea of Japan. Sasagawa Nagare is a good tour. Cheers!
Epic mistake, kyoto and Tokyo hahahaha
