Hi everyone! Seems like this video has been picked up by the algorithm, so if you are new here, welcome!
There are a lot of questions and as we’re riding right now I don’t have time to answer them all, but I’ll try and clear up a few of the more common ones here:
    *_Where is Victoria from?_*
Mexico, specifically Chihuahua in the North of Mexico.
*_How do you afford to do this?_*
Travelling by bicycle is one of the cheapest ways to travel. Camping most nights, without any rent or bills to pay, the main expense is just food. Most cyclists on trips like this live on a budget of between 10-15 USD/day, which works out to around $300 - $500 per month of travel. I’ve even met someone doing it on $1 - $3/day ($30-$90/month!), if you are resourceful you can make it work very cheaply!
I was saving up for a few years while working in London, with the soul focus of doing this trip. When I thought I had enough, I then quit my job, left everything behind and hit the road. I was fortunate not to have any serious commitments back home that I needed to stay for. I then met Victoria after 2 weeks on the bike, and a few months later we convinced each other to team up, find her a bike and fly up to Alaska, which is where this video begins.
We continued mainly off my savings at first, but those quickly ran out after buying all the gear and supporting 2 people instead of just 1 (Vic didnt have the advantage of years of savings behind her).
Thats when youtube picked up, and a bunch of generous people on here started to support us over on Patreon, and Tumbleweed (the company that made our bikes) stepped in to support us too!
*_Why did you start so late?_*
Heading up to Alaska was a VERY last minute decision, we literally decided to do this 2 weeks before we flew up there. The ideal time to start would have been a month or two earlier, but we didn't want to wait a whole year for the perfect timing. We thought that if we were speedy, we might just be able to make it in time to outrun winter. So we tried not to overthink it, flew to Alaska and got started! (Turned out we weren't very speedy)
*_How will you plan to cross the Darien Gap?_*
No solid plans yet, but we’ll most likely get a boat around.
*_How many miles do you ride each day?_*
It really depends on the terrain and how hilly it is. We like to take things easy and not stress about miles. Most days we ride somewhere between 25 - 40 miles (40-64km). Some days we struggle to even make it 15, and I think our longest was around 80.
    *_Are the bikes single speed?_*
No, the rear wheel has an internal 14 speed hub called a ‘Rohloff’. They are not electric and are purely human powered, it just means that all the delicate parts are sealed away from the elements, making our day-to-day maintenance very minimal and drama-free. We just have to change the oil in the hub every 5000km and thats about it! It’s pretty dreamy, especially when things get muddy. Consider checking out Tumbleweeds website if you're interested! Link is in the description above
*_How did you guys gain weight in the US?_*
We were surprised by this too! haha. Turns out even if you are cycling most days, with a week off to edit videos here and there, you can pack on some decent calories if you are as talented at eating as we are. While the fast food in the US was fun, it’s a lot easier to find cheap, healthy (& delicious!) food here in Mexico and below, so we’re planning to eat a lot better from here on out.
I hope that was helpful! I have a Q&A video on my channel that answers a few more questions if you are curious. Anyway, I hope you enjoy / enjoyed the video! Thank you for watching and for all the lovely comments. It is so nice to read them in the tent each night! (we are currently continuing on through Mexico and beyond, more videos coming very soon) - Greg

Not sure if you have gotten there already or not, but what is your plan to cross the Darien Gap? It is my understanding that there are no roads whatsoever, so not sure how you are going to push a fully loaded bicycle through there, but be safe and good luck! Awesome video!

Good documentary. If you need any knowledge from an experienced bike traveller, ask to Gürkan Genç. He is travelling around the world over 10 years and he is going to travel from Colombia to North America this year. Maybe your destinations cross over and meet by person.

I did a solo, self-contained bicycle expedition from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego. I started in june of 1988 and arrived in Ushuaia (The world's southernmost city.) in March of 1990. My original route plan was to take the pacific coast, but, at that time, the "Sendero Luminoso" was very active in Peru, and a lot of travelers I met on "The Gringo Trail" warned me to avoid Peru altogether. So I opted to go through Brazil instead, and it turned out to be an amazing route!

He had been DOA at Mount Diablo Hospital, and died THREE MORE TIMES! After he got saved, Alvin became a Chaplain for the Illinois State Prison System! He was bringing men out of prison early when they entered our churches rehab program! JESUS called him Home after he'd married again and had a beautiful daughter! Job well done! You know, the US gets a really bad wrap online, but I always see videos like these where it's so vivid and clear that the generosity of our people is beautiful and admirable, especially in places like Alaska where people live humble, community driven lives.

true that. We tend to help the people around us more than the internet gives us credit. I will say tho, having been stationed in alaska and seeing the brutal winters first-hand, you kinda need to help your neighbor lest they don't help you when you need it and the outside kills you

How so?? You get away from the big cities, people are nice. And most that are rude are liberals. It amazes me how they say conservatives are the violent one's when their is only proof of liberals being violent. We want peace even with them, to stand together, but they don't. So why is that??
How hard is it to realize people getting along and wanting the same things, makes a great country. I think that's why conservatives are like that. We do see it, and respect others. 🤷‍♀️

Victoria, More than anything, I hope you see this. I am going through a really hard time right now. My father past away this year and I lost my job. Something you said has helped me so much to keep going. The scene where you are almost crying and talking about the worst day of riding and the headwinds. You said " sometimes life gets hard but you just have to keep peddling. " It made me cry and gave me strength. You never when what you say or do becomes a blessing to someone else. I love your attitude through all the adverse weather and crazy circustances. You kept smiling and you wanted more. I admire that very much. God bless and take care .

Greg & Victoria…..you brought tears to my eyes because this is so beautiful. And I see you just a few days ago posted this. What an incredible story. Wonderful of you to share this with the world and let everyone see something other than the evilness that is going on everywhere. You both had a lot of willpower to attempt this, ESPECIALLY VICTORIA! She is amazing! As you said….as you get old you will look back at this as something beautiful and special. The majority of people in the world think having lots of ‘possessions’ is what life is about but all those possessions end up being forgotten and worthless. What life is made up of is ‘experiences’ because those will never diminish being what we cherish until we die. So touching to see all the welcoming bicycler’s welcoming you to Victorias home town. This is the first video of yours I have seen and will watch many more. Keep safe! Thanks for sharing.

As a cycling lover, I have to say that this is definitely one of the best videos I've seen on RUclips. Even the most professional documentary channel could not have made such a sincere, warm and astonishing edit. Those who are not interested in cycling may not understand what you do, but believe me, most of us who involved in this are aware of what an amazing job you have done. Victoria is simply an amazing woman and has a wonderful soul. I don't even feel the need to write about you anyway (in a good way, of course). Some people have written negative comments about Mexico, and I agree. In fact, it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, but unfortunately the cartels incident can suddenly make the country a very dangerous place. Please take great care of yourself. Loves from Turkey.
