      When running youtube HDR content, my G4 looks awesome. I know it depends on what settings are preferred per each picture mode using advanced settings personally, but the shadow details do appear to be better. Especially with nature scenes. I haven't tried throwing a disc into my UB820 just yet, im still rearranging my surround speakers, but I plan on it soon. My son said he noticed a huge difference with the P5 on the G4 compared to his A80J. I said, "Obviously. 😂 keep it coming, KG, thanks.

Given the price difference ($2250/€2100 for 55” and give away HW-S700D soundbar vs. LG $2570/€2400) at the time of purchase zero regrets for the decision. S95d visibly distorts white into rose/red/orange/pink. Whereas g4 seems to narrow the color range where there is predominant color in a frame. Eg where a green forest was shown details of other colors turned much greener than on s95d. I would prefer g4, but both models seem to be very potent and I guess there is a market for each model.

  • @davidoconnell4433

    You left off Dolby vision. You might not think it's that important, but you didn't even mention that Samsung doesn't support it at all.
    Other reviewers have been impressed with LG's filmmaker version of it.
    I think you underestimate people who buy either of these sets. While they aren't likely to get them professionally calibrated, they will try different modes to see which they like best. LG even has an option to show you different images, and based on your choices, it will set the tv up to your liking across different content.
    In gaming mode again, no Dolby Vision option for Samsung might make a difference in some games.
    You did mention the warranty difference but you didn't mention why that is a big deal. Namely image retention/burn in. Depending on the content you mainly watch, the risk will vary, but regardless, LG is a lot more confident in its panels. That should give anyone considering these two tvs a big reason to choose the LG.

    • @TechWithKG
      @TechWithKG  2 месяца назад +1

      I think people are aware that Samsung doesn’t have Dolby Vision at this point, it’s really not something I believe people should factor in over other important picture quality aspects or meaningful features because the visual difference and end result in regards to HDR impact is negligible in most content examples. I test it every year.
      As for DV gaming that’s botched on LG and no games even really have true support for it, dv gaming is definitely not worth talking about.

    Bro the lg can get close to the qd oleds color. The main problem is the color space and the fact that lg oleds run at a very cold temperature. Here is how you fix it. First take your remote and point the cursor to any picture mode setting, now type in the secret code 1113111. Change color space on sdr to bt2020. Make sure you are on native color space. Now also go ahead and enable the reduce blue light filter. You need to be on expert dark space. Turn off peak brightness. Then go in to the white balance, set it to warm 50. Set the color upgrade to high. Also go down to the blue and green and set them to minus 50. Then go to contrast enhancer and set it to high. Turn off auto genre selection if its on. Then finally go to gamma and set it to bt1886 or 2.4. Finally increase the sharpness and turn on ai picture pro. These are the worlds best settings for any lg oled tv. Try it and prepare to be shocked. There will be a huge difference in color, clarity and 3d pop. I tried it on my c1. Please compare the g4 now to the qd oleds with these settings. Please try these settings bro. You will be shocked at how good the color can get. I know it may be oversaturated for you. But it will give you an idea or what the tv is capable of. If you drop the color to around 45. These settings won't be oversaturated though. So try them and let me know.

    Ooof, really hate to say... gotta say I prefer the G4 in almost all of these shots. The pink tint (not sure if that's default or not) isn't great. But beyond that I kind of like the way they handle brightness there more. I've been watching this video on both an OLED panel and my Bravia 9. The G4 just looks a tiny bit sharper and definitely feels like it has some more depth, imo. As for motion, I'm not really worried about that on any OLED. The panel technology does most of the work it seems usually. On miniLEDs you tend to have to worry a whole lot more, because it takes some advanced processing not to look like ghosted, blurry poop. And even the Bravia 9, as good as it is, fails to come close to one of the top OLEDs in terms of motion clarity. Particularly in game mode, It's BFI implementation (whether due to VA panel flaws or just lack of processing power able to be given to it in this particular chip iteration) just doesn't come close to anything the OLEDs achieve with motion clarity. I've seen like the G1, for example feel almost as good as a high-end CRT in it's 120hz BFI mode (I've heard the CX is even better, but never got a chance to get that panel). I do hope someone brings back 120hz BFI on an OLED panel at some point in game mode. Especially with how much brighter they can get these days.

    In lit conditions the g4 absolutely beats the s95d in color, contrast,and black levels

  • @SP95
    @SP95 2 месяца назад +1

    I don't think the lack of colored brightness is due to tone mapping but to how W-OLED works as this kind of panel has a white sub pixel that has to blend with the other weakened sub pixels whereas a QD-OLED does not rely on a white sub pixel to have enough brightness as all three sub pixels are already bright enough on their own.

    • @TechWithKG
      @TechWithKG  2 месяца назад +2

      Well when I use professional mode toggle vs just having it set to default I get a ton of color back so it’s not as simple as it being a W-OLED. There’s still cases where it will be the QD OLED difference but yeah LG has very aggressive tone mapping which causes it to lose color even when it’s not the most demanding content.

    • @SP95
      @SP95 2 месяца назад +3

      Which is why I would say the color difference is mostly due to the content itself rather than tone mapping this time around.
      You may get some colors back when using an other mode but the brightness might also become darker as well, of course let's remove the raised blacks out of the equation.
      I am referring to the color volume aspect which measures color accuracy in regard to various levels of luminance/brightness rather than doing it on a single level like we traditionally do. In short, that measures how bright a single color could go.
      The white sub-pixel has some strengths and weaknesses compared to a classic RGB sub pixels solution like QD-OLED panels, the most obvious one is when the subject on the screen is bright but not very much colored as that white sub pixel doesn't need to blend much with the other ones and could then go full blown, which is why a W-OLED panel could go brighter in those specific subjects like you show here with white clouds, sand or a white rock on a bright sunlight, the sun itself etc...
      Whereas when you have some bright colored subjects that white sub pixel then has to dim in order to not loose too much accuracy when combined to those other dimmer RGB sub pixels which is why in that specific case a quantum dot doped sub pixel like those on Samsung's displays will then be able to display a brighter colored subject on our screen which is what I could see on your examples thankfully well recorded in HDR.
      I'm watching your video on an 13" AMOLED (RGB) display that could go up to 500 nits in a 100% window so I can tell when the Samsung has reached its limits like there at 13:26, the LG can't get that yellow tone right since it has to blend the weak red and the weak green sub pixels together but can afford to be much brighter thanks to the addition of the white sub pixel since the sun itself is essentially a giant bright white dot even in this orange scene.

Please try these settings bro. You will be shocked at how good the color can get. I know it may be oversaturated for you. But it will give you an idea or what the tv is capable of. If you drop the color to around 45. These settings won't be oversaturated though.
