He eventually got his thing back together and showed why he was the best of the best! R.I.P Jet and thanks for the pleasure of letting me play on stage with you even if I was a young sprat!

DIAMONDS najväčší hit dvojice JET HARRIS AND TONY MEEHAN, ktorý bol v UK rebríčku 13 týždňov od 10. januara 1963 a ako 146. hit dňa 31. januara 1963 nahradil na vrchole pieseň Dance On skupiny The Shadows ironiou osudu skupiny v ktorej hrali spoločne predtým krátku dobu. Daniel Joseph Anthony Meehan nar. 2. marca 1943 v Hamsteade,Londýn nahradil pôvodného hráča na bicie Terryho Smarta. Obaja predtým hrali solu v skupine The Vipers.Sobáš Harrisa s Carol DaCosta mal za následok Jetove depresie a nadmernú konzumáciu alkoholu. Lordan skupine zahral na ukulele skladbu Apache z ktorej Shadoes urobili 6 týždňový hit č.1. Richard v skladbe hral na bongach.V oktobri 1961 odišiel Meehan zo skupiny. Nahradil ho Brian Bennett nar. 9. februara 1940 v Londýne bývalý člen skupiny Wildecats. V apríli 1962 zo skupiny odišiel aj Harris, ktorého nahradil Brian Liquorice Locking bývalý člen skupiny The Krew Kats.

This record was at No.1 in the UK when I started following the pop chart. I had never heard of Jet Harris or Tony Meehan and didn't realise they were former members of The Shadows, who I had heard about. At No.2 were a group with a funny name The Beatles, who I also had never heard of. I assumed they must be some kind of novelty act similar to The Chipmunks. I was quite a bit wrong about that.

1968. év életem legcsodálatosabb éve. Ekkor hallottam a Shadows zenekart először és egy életre elköteleztem magam a zenéjük mellett. EGY HATALMAS CSODA, AMIT EZ A ZENEKAR CSINÁLT. Ilyenek manapság, már nem lelhetők. A mai együttesek, pár éven belül elfelejtődnek, ám, ezek a régi együttesek, pl: a SHADOWS egy örök életre beírták magukat a történelemkönyvbe, de nem véletlenül. Zenéjük hangzása, több emberöltő után is megállja helyét.

Did'nt know it,but age 13 in 1964 I moved to Sth London, from Nth Wales were all the guitar playing hopefully had gone straight from Lonnie D, Peter Paul & Mary to the Beatles. I hooked up with other guitar hopefully at my new school ,who were Jet Harris fan and I got to pickup this last fling of UK rock/ skiffle. Was it Shadow esque?or were the Shadows Jet esque? For my part then in 1964 it was great fretboard excercise but just did'nt ring my bell in the way , that Jonn+Paul did! ,however a talented fellow who did'nt die young but burnt out never the less. Jet is playing in the video with a Fender Jaguar not the Fender Bass VI he used in the original recording so the sound we hear in the audio is one octave lower than you can get playing with a guitar. I guess they used this other video for the sake of this RUclips clip. I searched for a live performance of Diamonds with Jet and Tony but could not find it.

Of course that's the studio version we hear.

The video of course does not match the sound, which is the original studio single. The video is of Harris at the New Musicial Express Awards gig, without Meehan.

This song came back to life 10yrs ago at the Kennedy Center during a Led Zeppelin’s induction video. Terrific hit. But who was first, these folks or The Ventures?

during the height of the "Copy Pop" phase of England's Music Scene.. hearing Duane Eddy here among others

Yeah, but the 'others' were just other people copying Duane. He was still the one everyone else wanted to be, Brit or American, or indeed Australian!

To be honest, this sounds much more like Duane Eddy than the Shadows!

so it's not just me,,This was during the "Copy Pop" phase of England's Music "scene",, when they just re-recorded the U.S. hits..

U.S. SAM This is an original tune written specially for them. But I do agree that the sound is much like Duane Eddy who also played most melody lines on the bass strings.

@@MrUSSAM- Nope, it was after that. Jet and Tony were formerly in The Shadows who recorded original material, US artists covered their songs. The one thing I'm not 100% sure of is was Duane Eddy influenced by Jet Harris when he switched to bass guitar for his 3rd album, or did he record his 3rd before Jet started playing lead on his bass? Not that it matters much. Duane was king of the rock'n'roll instrumental. Everyone wanted to be him.

Something not quite right with this clip, it's Sounds Incorporated backing Jet Harris at the NME Poll Winners Concert, but for some reason the clip is not in sync with the music and there are two drummers on stage of which one may have been Tony Meehan, but the person shown is definitely not Tony Meehan.

To start with, it is Jet Harris playing live, but the Drummer is Not Tony Meehan

  • @stephenhall3515
    @stephenhall3515 Месяц назад

Meehan was a brilliant drummer but Harris an indifferent talent. Harris, however, was able to see and bring out the talent in others, often in unusual combinations for that time.
Had he become a producer and organizer he would have gotten British music out of a rut and in these ways he was ahead of his time.
That is a special sort of greatness..
