I have uploaded another Honeycombs video from the same year, click on the link to see the group perform "Eyes" • Eyes - The Honeycombs ...
If You enjoyed this video and would like to see another female drummer from the same year, please take a look at the video of The Ravens performing their minor hit "I Just Wanna Hear You Say (I Love You) The drummer was a very young Tina Ambrose. Here's the link to that song which starts at 57 seconds into the video, enjoy.

A rare treat to see a female drummer back then in the 1960s.
Click on the link in the description to see another young female drummer from the same year, let me know what you think 😊
And yet the group don't seem to claim to be pioneers in womens rights.
One of the problems is that there were many women pioneers (Delia Derbyshire and Daphnie Oram to name but two) in music but even the people these days who claim to be concerned about it don't even know about these legends.
Surely that says more about them than anything else.
@@mickram23 Oh bollocks to pioneers and women's rights, just listen to the music ffs.
😊👏👏👏
Anne "Honey" Lantree was one of the very few women drummers to make it big on the world stage, preceding Karen Carpenter by ten years. Thanks for uploading this great song from the time when the Beatles first appeared in America.
Check out another song I uploaded by The Ravens from 1964 too, it’ll bring a smile to your face as it did mine 😊👏🙏
I'm betting you're British.
Through and through 🇬🇧😊 I’m working on many more of these classic songs from my younger days
This caught my attention because I saw a woman - clearly from the 60s -playing drums! Really interesting to see that she preceded Karen Carpenter by a decade. Of course, there were many women musicians , going back to the 1920s, who played many different instruments but you’d never recognize their names. This is especially true for jazz, but it’s true for most genres. It was okay for women to play “feminine” instruments like the piano, guitar or violin. Drums, electric guitar, brass instruments were all seen as too masculine for women. Even with Karen Carpenter, she was on the drum kit for about a minute, and from then on she only was a vocalist. Really dumb!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane, I had almost forgotten this song and group. Tis sweet to recall a much simpler and better time.
Some absolutely killer drumming on this track...
Now that is a classic Joe Meek production!
I can't get over how much the one guitarist looks like Ernie from "My Three Sons".
I thought it was Jerry Lewis
Heavy Buddy Holly influence. The song could even have been a Holly type number.
I was going to go Jerry Lewis, but yeah...
He's rockin it!
Toad from American Graffiti ???
What a masterpiece in color saved for eternal ❤🎶
Still sounds great 60 years later
60 years old, but still a fantastic sound, a melody forever
238 years old now still nice song
2024 still here in this song 2024 I'm still watching the video on the phone with the RUclips channel
My favorite Oldie i Love ! Maximum best ❤ divinal 🎶
As good as it ever was 60 years later.
Certainly is John, thanks matey 👏👏
Excellent song, and look at those Burns guitars !
Nice to see a good quality video of a group from that time. I would have been 10 that month.
Wow! Just wow! I can’t remember the last time I heard this. I must be old.
I was three,but it doesn't feel that long ago,and I'm not that old.😂
@@davidsmith3736 same here!
I was 13 and remember this song well. Loved it then and love it now. Greatest time to grow up in.
Another Joe Meek production. Amazing sounds he created, one of the biggest and best producers that ever produced.
The Joe Meek story is a remarkable journey, though ultimately it was a sad outcome, shame he had to live with the demons...
@BeasleyStreet very sad ending for Joe, life got the better of him unfortunately 🙏
Growing up in the 70's, this song, amongst many from the 60's, left a lasting mark on me. Not heard it for over 50 years
what 'lasting mark'? one of horror?? this is junk, mate
@@brianhammer5107 I was at an impressionable age 🙂
😊👏👏👏
She's great but I'm digging the nutty professor playing guitar
The Honeycombs.
Anne Lantree.. Honey..
Incredible footage of the golden era of music.
A time we'll never see again.
From the movie Pop Gear 1965. Lots of other cool videos. The Animals, Peter and Gordon, Hermans Hermits, Spencer Davis Group were in the movie plus a whole lot more.
@AI_Image_Master thanks yes, brilliant movie type music videos, I’ve already put the Animals on the channel, I do have the others too 😊👏👍
I was 10 years old and this song seemed to be played everywhere , and builders on work sites whistled it and sang it at the top of their voices 😂
Me too
Yup...brings back fond memories of driving around on Saturday night dates with my high school sweetheart, singing this at the top of our lungs. Such a catchy and unique tune. And The Honeycombs never produced another that came even close to this classic.
When it came out and our parents were gone, we would put that 45 on the “ Magnificent Magnavox” HiFi and when the instrumental came THAT BASS was all over the house and I never heard a bass that was played so well. Love that song!!🎉
😂❤ Maximum best 🎶👍🏻👍🏻
Love IT eternal !
Honey Lantree and Ted Nugent were in a garage band “The Bulldogs” together in high school. They played at some school dances and the Elks Club after Sunday afternoon football.
Those Burns guitars..!🎸🇬🇧
Do you suspect they had sponsorship?????
And they sound great, even though they're not plugged in! 🙂
They were using weird mic placements and other experimental techniques while recording this song in Joe Meek's apartment and it feels like they tried to match that feel by filling this video with equally weird camera angles so that the sound of the studio version and the look of the video would complement each other. Kinda cool.
A Joe Meek production - interesting. He was a genius with what he achieved.
@@martm216 edited for having inexplicably called him John LOL.
What an absolute belter of a tune and song.
Wow! I didn’t know Jackie Kennedy was a drummer!
I see the resemblance 🤣😊
@@thesquaredisc LOL!!!
And the one guitar player looks like ... Toad... from American Graffiti.
The first single my dad ever bought me...thankfully my mam bought me a Traffic LP
Back in the 60's they used to have a second feature in the movie theatres, often it would be a collection of these popular musical performances.
This one was from the feature Pop Gear. Or or Go Go Mania for US release. Lots of clips from these films on RUclips looking great.
They dress smarter than all the politicians we have now , and sing better !
NIGEL in Canada🇨🇦
try to imagine your competition is that other new group called the Beatles
the KINKS had their own sound , but everyone was having the oxygen sucked out of their room by the 'fab four'
Thwe boy in the glasses is having the time of his life...

We knew 😊
Looks like Ernie from My Three Sons
@@SundaeExpress Thwank you very much for the correction.
One of the very best tracks of the era. This song introduced me into music.
agree 100%
I had a 1964 Burns Bison like the ones being used here. Great guitar.
Great tune. I can remember taping it off the TV when this British Invasion movie came on in the 70s. Had to carry the tape recorder into the local record store to find out who these guys (gal) were called. Owes a bit of a debt to the Dave Clark 5.
Yup..."Glad All Over" and "Bits And Pieces" come to mind.
The answer is Yes. The beat is always there in the heart or music. A different language. The ear are alive still.
Brilliant song I saw the honeycombs in 1976 in uki have this as my ringtone cracking song
Wow! What a ringtone Shirley, nice one 👏👏😊
@@thesquaredisc yes love it
Very dim memories of hearing this on radio in the States. So fresh and joyful, exuding youthful energy and happiness. Luv it
😊👏👏👏
Bass player rocking the Geddy Lee single index finger!
Shades of James Jamerson.
That big Burns sound!
The guitarist is doing an amazing Austin Powers impression.
Must have great eyesight to see through all that glass 👍
You got it backwards
Where do you think Meyers stole the idea?
@@rocketguardian2001 Michael Caine's spy character Harry Palmer.
A vibrant, exciting era in music bloody great!
To heck with the guys it’s Honey that matters! A real knock out that could really play !
😊👏👏👏
Toward the end of the video, I was thinking, 'there's not enough Honey, show her again !"
Many "hearts" for Honey Lantree.
Agree, notice she kinda looks like Ringo...
Great song that grabs you "from the very start"...even competed with the best The Beatles had to offer back then!
Fabulous Burns guitars.
At 14 years old in 1964, I would have thought those guitars were so cool!
@@if6was929 Yes, so did I. The Shadows used them for a time in place of Fenders. Their line up with white Burns guitars looked great. There was even a special Hank B Marvin edition produced.
Man, that song still sounds great! Loved it for the longest time!
In early 1965 they had a big No. 1 hit in Sweden with "Thats The Way". Much due to the fact that they made a great TV apperance here, that everybody saw as we only had one TV channel at the time.
Another great song
They were the first group to have a female drummer.
Please see the link in the description, The Ravens group had a young female drummer Tina Ambrose that slightly pre dated The Honeycombs, let me know what you think 😊
Love the guy in the glasses. The expression on his face says “I made it big!!!”
🤣 yes, I thought that too 🤣
@@thesquaredisc He gives Austin Powers a good run for his money. Y
@yamakawa511 🤣😊
Burns guitars, love em!
What a great video, as a child of the 60's i obviously know the song but didnt realise a women was drumming , kudos to her in such a male dominated era. Some very interesting Burns guitars, and as a bass player i'm liking the one finger playing 😀
I didn't either, until a few years ago. This was one of my favourite songs when I was 10. I started paying attention to music just in time for the British Invasion and Beatle Mania!
As a long time bass player I couldn't help but notice " (or stop laughing) at "One Finger Larry" in this.
Great song, great vid, great 60’s when no one bothered to even plug in the guitars. Holly rocks!
Burns guitars were extra loud.
Always loved this song! A great transition between 50s ballads and 60s electric guitar! Great song!
Have earfulls of these musician's, enjoy, a really catchy song!!!
Thanks for sharing.
This is from "Pop Gear," the 1964 British movie that featured a lot of bands of the time.
😊👍
As featured on "DTV" aka dork TV.
This group was WAY ahead of its time. Have I the right? Asking permission 50 years before the #MeToo movement. Also, the wireless guitars are advanced technology.
Wireless guitar technology wasn't around then and in doing the video, they were miming to the studio recording so there was no need for guitar cords either.
@@sess122 yes, l could see they were not really playing. My attempt at satirical humor.
Burns guitars ..so British!
Absolutely yes 👏👏👏😊
@thesquaredisc ...but "British" pronounced with a British accent of course!
@that_thing_I_do 😊👍 🇬🇧
Great song.
Those guitars!
Footage taken from the 1965 film called Pop Gear...
I have it on DVD.
Great track - huge hit in California.
Thanks matey, I didn’t know that, nice one 👍😊👏👏👏
Great Song. My mam & dad used to plat it, along with the other 60s songs 🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻
Brilliant piece of musical history. ❤❤❤❤
👏👏👏😊
Those were the days, great music and men wearing suits and ties!
60 years now.
Oh my goodness 🤪😊🙏
The pure 60s sound ❤
The guitarist at the back looks just like Rick Moranis out of Ghostbusters and Honey I Shrank The Kids !
Or, he looks like Chip, from My 3 sons
Ernie from My 3 Sons
Or Jerry Lewis as Nutty Professor (1963 film) 🤓🤓🤓
Cool song!!
Everything about this is fantastically groovy!!!
😊🕺🏽
Chip Douglas from "My Three Sons" on rhythm guitar.
The sound of this song is classic early 1960's British Invasion. Extremely similar to "The Tornados" "Telstar". Music like this had a huge influence on what other artists would create in the years to come.
Think it's produced by Joe Meek who did Telstar.
It's amazing how good those guitars sound, considering they're not plugged in! 🙂
This was one of my favourite songs when I was 10 YO.
😊👏👏🎸
Happy days!xx
It's a hit that comes back to mind every four or five years. Has it ever been re-released or covered? The guy with the glasses seems to be the son of the Irish comedian Frank Carson! It's the way he plays it!
I had no idea that Austin Powers was in this band.
Rock and Roll Bay Bee!
I thought it was Leonard Hofstadter :)
Aha! I just looked it up and this was a Joe Meek production and it sounds like it! I must have it on a CD collection somewhere!
😊👏👏👏👏
I love how singer Dennis D'Ell sounds like a raunchy Neil Sedaka! 😅
Yes he does eh 😊🙏👏👏
I thought more of a Gene Pitney soundalike!
Definitely Neil Sedaka.
@@henrysteedman8868
Denis had his vocal speeded up by producer Joe Meek, the Sedaka comparison, does not take this into account. I have heard Sedaka, a slower Denis with an English accent, would sound different.
The drummer is Anne 'Honey' Lantree...
What a great time to listen to music. Honey, Honey, Honey!
Just listened again. So clever. The lead guitar twangs at the end of each line of the lyric remind of the violin after-comments in a Mozart piano concerto. I cannot praise higher than that,
If I remember correctly, they were the first British rock band to come to Japan. They appeared on an afternoon talk show in Japan and performed this song live.Have a good Sunday from Japan🎸
😊🙏👏👏👏 thanks for the info 😊
Thanks You from Japan🥁
Joe Meek at his finest!
Yeah baby, yeah!!!!
Just look at the way their dressed let alone the music 😅, been here since 1950😅😅😅😅😅
you and me, both
Gotta love the rhythm guitarist's enthusiasm...like a young Elvis Costello
Yes! And his amazing wireless guitar at least a decade before they were available!
I remember when it was a hit and it still sounds great ! All used British Burns guitars, the bass looks great with the three slant chrome strips/pickups !
Absoluter Ohrwurm 👌
RIP Honey Lantree & Dennis D'Ell. The rhythm guitarist who resembles Austin Powers is Martin Murray.
🙏
Iv subed caus this is bril want see more. Keep on rockin squaredisc
Thanks Gerald 👍 appreciated 😊
Quite a good quality video for the time!
It was a movie called pop gear with “british invasion“ bands. The brilliant stylish camera work was by two time Oscar winner Geoffrey Unsworth ( 2001, Cabaret, Murder on the Orient Express, Superman ). And the intros were by DJ J***y S*****e. I think he’s been edited out of all the clips now.
Reminds me of my early yearning's nice one!

These guys radiate such primitive positive enthusiasm that at first I thought they were an American band. I didn't expect this at all from the British
What? The Beatles, the Stones, The Who and hundreds of others - ‘radiated primitive positive enthusiasm’……and were also British!
