    Great to see Tony Jackson in the band . After all these years I realised that the drummer was clicking his fingers and not just looking like an idiot .

      The music was certainly good, but don't forget about the Vietnam draft, JFK, RFK, MLK assassinations, and Charles Manson. It depends on how old of a teenager you were, as to whether the memories were all good or not

    I love these old live performances. No crazy lights, or choreographed dancers, or backing tracks or even metronomes. Just four well dressed guys with their instruments and voices making great music.

      There is- it's my grocery store, which plays the oldies, mostly. You can dance to them if you want to, and in my mid-70s, I don't much care what people think.

      There used to be a place in Worcester Mass. In the late 80's early 90's ...played old rock-n-roll from the 50's & 60's ..forgot the name of the joint aka club 🤷🏼‍♂️ 😹😂😹

      Up until the 60's musicians had a strict style. However, in exchange for freedom and development, they lost order and dignity. The 60's is a watershed moment in music and an eternal milestone.

    Great era. Straight on great music. No fancy light shows to distract. No computers to adjust sound. No stupid theatrics. Just four great musicians with respectful clothes and super voices. The 60's had real talent. Hard working, decent, respected musicians. Conventional and standout models of proper behaviour.

    I am 76 years of age. In my opinion, no band could do a song better than the Searchrrs. Their songs were done almost to the point of perfection. LOVE POTION #9 and Needles And Pins were great in the 60s and are still great today. Great sound!!!

      I agree. The Searchers and The Hollies put me in mind of each other, considerably. I can't help but wonder if The Searchers took a que from The Seekers, or vice versa, for their group names. The Seekers, my favorite group, I know were from Australia, but first had their hits in England. Not sure, at this time, which group was the earlier of the two.

    Believe it or not, the rhythm guitarist on this clip (John McNally) was a performing member of the Searchers for 60 years--1959-2019.
    Pretty amazing.

      Yes John Rokicki...He, along with John Lennon, were my rhythm guitar mentors/idols..Buddy Holly, too..But that was latter 50's. These guys definitely hat that "it" factor!! McNally and Pender, the lead guitarist went on years after trying to "carry on the mantle" of the group!!

      That was the real day the music died for the 1950 through 63 teens. I never cared for the British Invasion although I was 18 when it came in but it also was about the same time drugs came in and None of my friends were a part of the drug scene either. We still loved the old time rock and roll.

    I find this performance absolutely perfect. Particularly impressive to me is the "crescendo" participation of Chris Curtis' drums that "tells" the full story . It seems I can't listen enough of it

    I'm not going to lie, the only reason why I searched this band was because I'm a big Beatles fan, and in an interview from 1964 both John Lennon and Paul McCartney said that this was the band that they enjoyed listening the most, and now I can see why!!

    When they got home to Britain after this show drummer Crumley (Curtis) and Pendergrast (Pender) lead guitar did the dirty. They conspired to have bass and singer Tony Jackson kicked out of Ithe group he formed in Liverpool in 1959.

      He did leave but returned in the 70s for certain revival shows. He was ousted because of a drug problem. He might have helped form the group but Brian Jones also was kicked out of the Stones even though he was the founder. I've always heard that Mike Pender was the leader of the Searchers but you can hear anything. But, all the bands had conflict over the years so it might depend on what they were doing at the time.

    I was lucky as a young teen to watch CBS’ The Ed Sullivan Show. How a newspaper columnist got a chance to host such an influential force for this band, The Beatles, and many other performers. I love this group and this song.

      They were short because there was limited time on top 40 radio and lots of records to be played. Extended versions of later years were album cuts. It's true that some extended versions were played on the radio like Safety Dance for example. The Wall and Nights Without Satin were better in the 4 minute version. The long versions just included shouting , sound effects and extended instrumental segments.

    Oh I just adored this song, “Needles and Pins” ❤ Such a beautiful song by the very best group of the 60s! My favourite singer/guitarist was Mike Pender or Pendergast, oh so very handsome. 😊 I can’t remember the names of the other singer, and the drummer and the gorgeous blond guitarist, but oh they were such a wonderful group and sang brilliant songs! I’ll be singing their sensational songs from now on.
    Hubby and I married in 1972 and will have been married for 53 years on Wednesday the 8th of January. My hubby is an amazing man and so very handsome and due to my health not being great with epilepsy he does all the cooking and is simply amazing!!

    I think I once crashed one of the Searchers gigs, back in 1991, in Wales. I couldn't afford entry. So, I chatted with the bouncer,, and listened for a couple of songs, before admitting I was a penniless student. We were all penniless students in 1991!

      I lived thru all the 1960s stuff on Ed Sullivan in the USA and recall well my father saying ' ...they'll be gone in a few weeks ' about the Beatles ready to appear on Ed Sullivan as my sister and I waited for the B&W TV picture to improve with 'rabbit ears' ...

      That drummer was Chris Curtis....the most talented musician on the planet. He sang high harmony, composed, and was, the leader until he left the band. Such an incredible sense of humor! ❤️❤️ RIP dear Chris.

    Going on 77 years of age and this song was the first of theSearchers I remember and loved. I cannot stop watching their performances. The SEARCHERS; part of my teenage years. I remember having this song playing every day on the hit parade whilstI worked Afternoon shift. So sad that two members are no longer with us. Chris Curtis was quite the lad. Tony Jackson a great bassist.. I wish I had a time machine to go back to the days when this band played.

    Fond memories of them playing at a Sheffield U Students Union dance in 1964 when I was there . Everyone stopped dancing to listen and they sang Needles and Pins 3 times in a row.

      @@AaronParasmo This was when the top groups toured and the Students Unions with their facilities and no overheads where the only ones that could afford them My wife when she was 17 at a Saturday night dances at Doncaster Tech twice danced to the Beatles before they became famous , Walking home with her friend their tour mini bus stopped and chatted her up . But she knew their was someone better than Paul and John waiting for her in the future!!
