Video title was "Mid sized trucks to avoid". He pretty much listed all the mid sized trucks available, so I am still trying to figure out which trucks to not avoid and then he didn't rank them, but he said he did. I now know what RUclips channel to avoid.
Honestly, when a vehicle is given a con just because it lacks certain electronics and safety features, I have to laugh. How did all decades before 2020 survive without these features? Lol.
Lol RIGHT!!!!!…..my first car was a 86 Toyota MR2 5 speed manual . Didn’t have none of this equipment and yet I still survived. I just paid attention while I was driving.
@@carsonhoover5767 '05 Sebring (2.4l i4, 4-speed auto, fwd) with 151k miles. Bought back in '08 and I still have it. The only electronic "accessories" she has is power doors and locks and an aftermarket remote start, works for me. :)
@@carsonhoover5767 agreed, and they're more distractions than anything else (and another way to make a vehicle more expensive). I don't need a backup camera to back into my driveway, neither lane assistance to tell me someone's in the other lane...
Agreed. I think there would be a solid market for a more basic truck with rubber floors and Naugahyde seats. Carpeted floors just hold mud a dog fur. And who the hell walks around inside their truck in bare feet? I want good power, four wheel drive or AWD. I do not need a sun roof or numerous electronic gizmos. But car manufacturers learned. While back that they couldn’t sell us more vehicles, but they could sell us more vehicle.
I bought a 2022 pro-4X and love it. I test drove the Rangers, colorado/canyon, and Tacoma. I ended up with the Nissan. I like the fact that Nissan is selling a truck not a giant computer on wheels. The interior is way better than the rest the infotainment system works great. I've used it at our family farm and it did great off road. (I had to go through a creek with a pretty steep incline and had no issues with ground clearance). I think alot of these RUclipsrs are payed off by these other car companies. The frontier has everything I wanted and need at a good price point.
The Nissan Frontier is the better overall truck in my opinion. I got the Pro4X in Dec. 2021 and it has been fantastic. Plenty of power and luxury. The SV with the premium package replaced the SL. I drove all the vehicles except the Maverick and the Santa Cruz and none of them drive as well as the Frontier. My Frontier is the perfect midsize for me.

After reading all these reviews. Sounds like the Nissan Frontier is a pretty good truck. I believe the owners more than the critics on any of these vehicles. 🤔
In my opinion I would rank the New frontier pro 4X is number one. I just bought one about 2 months ago and absolutely love it. I did a ton of research on all of the midsize pickups before making any decisions. I will say though that I might have had some bias as my vehicle it replaced is a 2007 Nissan Xterra which I loved dearly and actually decided to keep it as a winter vehicle. When looking for vehicles I really would have loved to see a brand new 2022 Nissan Xterra redesign but the frontier is a beauty the engine feels great the infotainment system is really nice I don't find it cluttered at all. Seats are super comfortable driving position is really good and adjustable. The only cons that I can see some people not liking is the hydraulic steering instead of electric and the amount of leg room in the rear. Other than that though I really can't see why anybody wouldn't like this truck.
Congrats! I Just bought a Pro4x last week and I was supposed to get a Tacoma the same day, but after driving it I wasn’t excited or nothing not even by the interior, then I remembered the Frontier had gotten redesigned and as soon as I saw it I’m like this is the one and took it for a test drive I knew I was gonna get it. Love it so far!
Yeah, overall frontier is number 1 for me I have 2022 proX in white! But I will agree the steering needs to be Electric Power steering but that is coming from someone that had a GMC Canyon with real smooth steering.
I bought a Nissan pro 4x in November been a outstanding truck so far.. running the shale washboard roads of Montana everyday this vehicle takes no prisoners ! I have been avg 20.7 mpg on reg not bad for a truck that weighs close to 4600 lbs.
I’ve been driving some sort of Frontier since 2007. Frontier’s are all I drive. I’ve had one with about 160,000 miles. Aside from breaks and normal maintenance. They have never been in a shop for mechanical problems. They are an absolute work horse. That’s why I keep buying them.
I'm avoiding the Ford Maverick like a plague right now due to first generation production jitters. Every Ford Maverick our local Ford dealer has sold has come back for warranty work ranging from cracked wheels all the way to needing engine replacements. Most common issue is interior rattles.
@@jacksonhill2303 Works for me. I use a flash drive and Sirius for most music. I plug in my iPhone for Apple play. The truck has navigation but I use Waze and works great on the truck’s screen. Siri and Alexa work fine.
@Disposable Dad great for highway. I’m not gonna lie and say it’s like driving a luxury car and floating on a cloud. It’s a truck and it drives like one. It’s more comfortable than the Tacoma I tested. I’m 6’2” and it’s fine for me
I bought the Nissan pro4x. The engine is what a V6 in a midsize should feel and sound like. It looks amazing inside and out. I got the green one without the leather seats. I just prefer the orange trim which is not available with leather. The infotainment system is millions of lightyears better than any other in the segment… period. The quality of the screen and image is superior and the screen size is larger than most. I terms of mpg… I’ve been hitting the highway and it’s done 27mpg and 20-22 mpg in the city. The wheel is just amazing, it feels just the right amount of heavy to really get that trucky feeling. Nissan is always an underdog in this segment but somehow is one of the most durable. I still see around older models from early 2000’s. Plus is AMERICAN 🇺🇸.
@@Alexandroidd on highway it has done from 25 to 27 being the best so far. City is between 19-22 mpg. It is new so let’s see how it does in the long run. So far even though gas prices are off the charts I can’t complain tbh.
I’m averaging 24 MPGs in my Pro X in combined driving and the truck isn’t even broken in yet. Things also built like a tank. Reminds me of the way German cars used to be made.
Love the new frontier! Speaking of older, Friend has a 16' with 187k. No real problems engine or tranny. Blackstone oil analysis shows great numbers on both and very little if any wear by the engine. Rock solid!!
I had a 16 GMC Canyon. At 22,000km the bushings on the suspension went, never seen a dirt road it was a city truck and driven slowly. At 28,000km the infotainment head unit crapped out, was replaced under warranty. At 36,000km the rear taillight kept shorting out and the bulb was melting into the socket. Gm couldn’t fix this problem and it persisted until I got rid of the truck. Around 36,000km the 4x4 system wouldn’t engage or disengage in cold weather. Gm couldn’t fix this either meaning I had to leave it in 4x4 just to ensure I had it when I needed it… finally at 44,000km the engine started to burn oil and was blowing oil out of the exhaust. The engine needed to be replaced, and the head unit failed a second time. With all the problems on the vehicle, I went to Amvic filed a complaint and gm bought the truck back under lemon law. What a hunk of junk. My buddies on his third frontier all three have gotten him to 250k km plus and he just trades them for newer ones with no issues
freinds dont let friends buy Chevys... bummer to hear that man thats probably a rare case but I've had issues with any gm car I drove even for a short sprint lol. Just bought my 2022 Pro 4X a few days ago I am loving it! Frontier owners may be easy to please and im ok with that but its sooo mucb bwtter than my 2016, but my 16 was a base model with the v6 and 2wd but its been flawless for 130,000 miles outstanding truck and this new one feels leaps and bounds more quality built.
@@AsianPersuation24x7 yeah I’m working on a deal for a 14 xterra it’s super clean for my second vehicle. A lot of the issues I had with my canyon I found forums of others on Reddit with similar issues. Most of them traded their vehicles away and never got a permanent fix for the 4x4 not working in cold weather. I’ve always found the frontiers to have such a big turning radius as the only real downside to owning one. I don’t know if that’s rectified on the new models or not, but my buddy loves his and aside from 2 being write offs in accidents they all had high mileage and never cost him anything in regards to serious or weird maintenance repairs.
You’re absolutely right the 16 was horrible 17 they went with a great motor understand I had a buddy that butter 16 a joke I laughed at it when I wrote in it anyhow you might never know until you can’t blame anybody but it was a piece of junk in the first place 15 was not much better
@@austinlibby7025 it’s not often the dealership buys back a vehicle but Amvic inspected the truck and said there’s so many problems with it it would cost more than the vehicle is worth to try and fix all of them. They spent a ton of time trying to figure out the 4x4 problem and the melting taillight with no luck
@@Bob-fk8vd this is the 3rd gm product I’ve had that’s been a lemon. Bought a Hyundai for the wife she’s been very happy with it. I’ve recently purchased a clean 07 Colorado in-line 5 single cab with the zq8 package. 223,000km and only minor issues so far. I’m just not impressed with gm. They’ve really burned me and not sure what compelled me to buy the 07, just love the looks(could be a huge mistake). My buddy has a 18 Silverado with the 5.3l in it and the transmission grenaded at 43,000km. Fingers crossed my 07 doesn’t.
My 2020 Ridgeline Sport is plenty of truck for what I need lots of storage gets me off road enough in the dirt since I’m not a big time mudder and it tows my camper. I can get 27 to 28 mpg on the highway and carry my canoe. Very comfortable ride.
At age 74, I have owned two Nissan pickups and one tundra. All three were problem free. 200k mile clubs all tree. I am waiting for 2023 models now. My criteria, in order, are safety features then freeway comfort, and finally utility. Price figures only after I decided on trim. Example for safety is getting alerts when backing up at Costco. Example for comfort is back support when on the freeway. I welcome your comments.
The biggest misconception with trucks, is that everyone uses them for the same thing. If we did, we wouldn't have mini-trucks and the F 400 and 500 series trucks, and everything inbetween. The hate that the Ridgeline gets is stupid. I drove a Ridgeline when I worked for Honda Canada, and thought it was great. The AWD system and VTM-4 made it so I NEVER got stuck, in mud, snow or anything else. The Ridgeline also out-performed a lot of Jeeps at a Jamboree, due to the way the drive system worked...I always had a tire on the ground and with quality BFG's it was fantastic. The argument that it had a funny shape and couldn't carry a camper was ridiculous; neither can the Avalanche and neither can most 1/2 tonne trucks. The new Ranger is great, and the Tacoma just keeps on going, though in both cases, the lack of diesel engines here in North America, gives us significantly less payload capabilities than the same trucks in the UK for instance; with the diesel you get an upgraded suspension and brakes. Obviously with the lack of full-sized trucks in the UK and Europe, having the mid-sized with improved ability is a necessity we just won't find here. If the Maverick or Ridgline works for a retired couple or family who need to do a recycling run weekly, go to the Home Depot or garden nursery, or fly-fishing on a Sunday afternoon...that is great. If someone is out there saying that the only truck is a one-tonne, lifted, chipped, and belching smoke on seven foot tires, then I would recommend therapy to overcome the smaller than average penis, and recognize that stock Land Rovers have explored the world, every inch of it without a lift kit, chip, and a mortgage worth of add-ons.
You just made me make my mind up on The Ridgeline; I’m sold. Like seriously how is not being able to tow the same amount as a Ford or Tacoma considered a “con” lol
Consumers have spoken. Ordered fully loaded Nissan Pro4X. Looked at all the others. No comparison. I wouldn’t consider myself a frontier lover. Had Ford up to this point. Just felt it was the best of what I looked at. Ranger, Canyon, Colorado, and the Frontier.
It must run on snails and the horse power must be frog legs cause it’s a frenchy car with Renault looks. In France they call it the Alaskan which is just a Frontier that wasn’t built by dumb hillbillies in the fattest and poorest state in America (Mississippi)
No doubt, the frontier is a nice truck. The one I drove was a 4X PRO, and I really liked it. I was close to buying it. But after I saw the trunk in the Ridgeline the new design of the 2022 and the ride, I was hooked. That worked for me, but we all have different needs, so you do you.
At 60,000 miles let me know if you recommend someone buying this vehicle and about ask you would you buy it again no you’ll see everyone’s right they’re still not quality built like super run whatever Toyota I mean
I just received a new 2022 Tacoma on 3/3. I have owned 4 Toyota small trucks since 1984 including the new 22 model. In total I have had to replace two mechanical parts, a water pump, and an A/C compressor. No tows, and only two non-starts due to batteries. People can say what they want, but they are tough, durable, and reliable. Yes, they are less powered than most of its competition, and they don't have all the frills. You know, very things that break the most. Instead, Toyota focuses on refining the detail that makes them reliable. Tacoma's do some things great, and others only extremely well. But rest assured, that if you maintain it, it will provide you with a life long ride, on road, and off. FYI, my 2022 is getting 21.5 - 23.5 combined mpg
People commenting on here disregarding the king Tacoma. There’s a reason why Toyota just sold out sold every car manufacturer in the US;) My 2021 TRD is amazing!!!
I've had all 3 generations of the Tacoma including my 2017 since Aug 2016. All have been great. 85K and still on original brakes no mechanical/reliability issues. That reliability and off-road ability keep me coming back but I would seriously consider the Nissan Frontier and the Ranger has much more interior room but worry about how long those turbos would last...
I’m coming from a Tacoma and I love the frontier pro 4x that I recently bought. More head room and comfort over all than the Tacoma in my opinion. Also no turbo, 3.8 liter v-6
I went with the Ridgeline lol. I liked the features and interior ergonomics. I just tow a Jet Ski and occasional runs to Home Depot, taking junk to the dump, or picking up a large item like a TV, furniture, appliance, etc.. I like that it's not too big or too small, it's just right for me!
I can't decide between the Ridgeline and Maverick. There's like maybe 5-6k difference in price in the trims I want. I've always had Hondas..which is good and bad I guess.
I’m seriously considering getting the Ridgeline and raising it 3” to give it a little more off-roading capabilities. Not driving up a mountain, but for unpaved roads
Consumer Reports rating of the Tacoma is simply laughable. Seriously, it's so off the mark you just have to wonder what their motive is? I stopped renewing my membership simply because I can't tell if they are trustworthy source anymore.
I bought a 2022 ranger black edition and couldn’t be happier with it. Loaded with all the safety features and rides like a dream. Lots of seat room in the back as well and has more than enough power. Easy for my wife to drive as well and easier to park. I had a 2012 f 150 4x4 and like this even better. My friend down the street says he likes it better than his 2022 Nissan Frontier which both of us were even lucky enough to get because of the shortages. My ranking would be Ranger, Ridgeline, Frontier, Tacoma.....

Bought a Ranger last year and she's barely at 5500 Miles and I absolutely love her! Tall and drives nice and smooth, also picks up speed fast too. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
I drove the ranger for a couple of months and fell in love with it so much room in the back the handling was great just loved it But yes it is the turbo and all the electronics that is stopping me from buying one
New Frontier is a great truck. Bought the Pro 4x end of last year and it rides nice. I’m hoping I will love this truck as much as the 1st generation 2006 Honda Ridgeline I used to drive.
@@Randy-lf2dp The trans are good now. Just had a Tacoma for a rental that had a few hundred miles on it and the cheap plastic is horrible. The Tacoma needs the 4.0L engine. The 3.5 just feels sluggish when on road. The cab is also really horrible for tall people. I'm waiting to see how Toyota screws up the next gen 4Runner before I get my next vehicle.
@@robertmisiuk7137 I liked my 2006 Tundra better than my new 2022 tacoma I just use it to go back and forth to work and maybe get a couple things from the Home Depot that's about it otherwise my wife's Camry does really good
I purchased a new 2016 Canyon that had intermittent electrical problems. At times, the windows, heated seats, heater blower, and wipers wouldn’t work, and the 4WD wouldn’t engage. Also, the stereo would turn on by itself or the screen would go blank. I sold it back to GM and purchased a Tacoma.
My 2019 GMC Canyon SL with the Eaton manual Transmission and the 4 cylinder, minus some minor infotainment issues, has been a fine running vehicle for the last 2 and half years.
@@jonathanwilliam980 I’ve had several midsize trucks and unfortunately, the Canyon was the worst. It was an electrical nightmare. It’s too bad because it was a nice driving truck and good mpg.
I was able to walk away from a red light runner front impact crash in my 2017 Tacoma with 30,000 miles. Yes, I will be getting a 2022 Tacoma once the other drivers insurance pays out.
Loving my Nissan frontier pro 4x. Coming from a Tacoma TRD off-road, it’s much more comfortable and is equally as capable. My plan was a TRD pro Tacoma, but at 55k, I couldn’t justify it. Put a small lift and some 33’s on the frontier and I’d imagine it would give a TRD pro a good run for its money.
Several articles I’ve read on the new Frontier are very favorable as well as some other RUclipsrs like TFLTruck and most recently Kirk Kreifels who is a huge Toyota fan but said the Frontier feels less “tinny” than the Tacoma. As for the Maverick, Santa Cruz, and Ridgeline those are kinda a different thing, and at least for me a big “No Thanks”.
@@MeltingRubberZ28 Ridgeline is the best midsize for 80-90% of what people actually use midsize pickups for. For people who actually go hardcore off-roading/adventuring, body on frame is obviously the choice, but the Ridgeline will surprise with its capabilites and will suffice in light off-roading situations. And if you're seriously worried about tow ratings, then you're shopping in the wrong segment. A full size truck is what you want.
I just bought a 2021 Ford Ranger Lariat Tremor for about $48k and added the $800 Ford Performance tune backed by Ford with a 3 year 36 mile warranty......so now it has 315 hp & 370 lb ft of torque!......best midsized truck IMO hands down!!......do your research on the Ford Ranger Lariat Tremor and you'll see why it's a great buy!!
@@scottvamp Engine/ trans have been in their Frontiers for 2yrs now. The 2020/2021 models were used to test mule the drivetrain for the 2022, and just like the old 4.0 it's been a solid engine.
I bought a 2022 Nissan Frontier, albeit only the S model. I had a 2015 Chevy Colorado before that. It's not really fair to compare the two, but I will say the Colorado felt more solidly built and durable. However, the Frontier's engine power is impressive; it also handles bumps much better than my Colorado did. The brakes are top notch, and the interior is considerably quieter as well. I guess time will tell if my Frontier was a good replacement for my Colorado, but I did get a good seven years out of it without any major mechanical issues.
You bought the best of all mid size trucks on the market. The pro4x is a beast in all departments especially interior where it was rated weak. Easy to rate when you actually sit in all of them before making that purchase. I to bought the pro4x due to what I gathered in test drives and actual visual and tried out test drives. By far the best mid size vehicle. Great choice
Frontier has always been an underdog. I love them, but I hate Nissan for other super crappy vehicles. I have a 2014 Colorado but the engine had to be rebuilt right at 125k miles. Coulnd't handle a working life due to a terrible design on the engine itself. I wanna buy a new truck, but I find myself looking between the Colorado, Tacoma and Frontier. I want the top dog. Pro4x V6, ZR" or TRD pro. Up to now, the colorado offers a Front Locker, Tacoma has great reputation and great aftermarket support and Frontier seems like it is a better working and highway truck, but lacks both advantages from the other 2 trucks. Any thoughts on that?
The frame of the new frontier is an evolution of the old platform, which is very solid and also in use on the Pathfinder and Xterra, I can all but guarantee the new one will be solid too.
I’ll allow that the Ranger was dated when we got it in America, but that’s because the rest of the world had it for years, and I feel like the bugs were worked out because of that. I’ve had mine for 2 years, and I’ve never had a problem with it. *edit I know the engine and transmission are different in the North American market. But I’m 46,000 miles in, and it’s doing great.
@James SS kind of the same thing here. When I bought mine, it was one of 3 left on the lot. Though, at this point, I’d say that literally anything that comes off of the hauler is normally sold pretty quickly given the scarcity of everything.

This video really comes down to room and what you'll be using it for in my opinion. None of these really have too many issues. Would like to see what common problems these have and rate the trucks in that
When time for me to get a truck I chose the GMC extended cab with long bed. It's a truck and that's what served me. For better price point was tempted by the smaller engine but got the V6 and am glad I did. Nothing fancy or fashion forward but plan to drive it for years to come.
Ranger owner here. When I started to look for a midsized back in 2020, I looked with an open mind. Test drove the Colorado, the Tacoma, and the Ranger. Did not consider the Frontier nor the Ridgeline. The Frontier was out as I did not like the styling and the Honda was out as it would not have suited my needs. First and foremost was towing ability then comfort and other features. Off road ability was also not considered as I am not a mudder. Ability to handle a Canadian winter, however, was important. So with those criteria in mind, I started my journey. First the Taco. Ergonomics on this truck are just so so. I am just under 6 feet and found the interior cramped. Power delivery from the 3.5L V6 was ok but not outstanding. 5 speed transmission and a 600 lb towing capacity was also considered but I knew towing our trailer with this rig, due to the 5 speed, meant the motor and tyranny would be worked to their limit especially towing in the mountains. I had a 2016 4 Runner with the 4L and the 5 speed and found it really was not a suitable power train combination for towing. So, Taco off the list. I really considered the Colorado however my company rented me one for a trip that lasted about 5 hours between cities.Good power and a decent ride but, and this is a big but, comfort in this truck was not even average. I found myself stopping every couple of hours to give my butt a rest from the park bench seats. Also, cheap plasticky interior. So Chev/ GMC midsized was off the list. Lastly the Ranger. Yes some don't like the styling but I feel the same way about the Taco. Plusses for Ranger, very comfortable seats you can spend all day in, roomy interior and the 7000 lb + towing capacity. Powertrain wise, I was skeptable about the smallish 4 cylinder but it has enough juice for this truck. Also the torque the engine puts out, more than it's competitors, makes a world of difference when towing. Also though maybe a little dated in some respects, the design has been around for many years so all the bugs should be worked out. One niggles with the Ranger is the small fuel tank which is something Ford should consider in the next Gen of this truck. All in all I am very happy with it.

I got a Tacoma in 2020. I got to say it's been flawless. When I was looking to buy the Frontier was still the very old version from 2003. Had the new one been out I would have looked at it. Nor regrets with the Toyota
After test driving the new Colorado ranger and canyon I purchased the frontier. For the money and the features the Nissan was hands down the best option. The only midsize I liked more was the ridge line but I couldn’t get past the price
He said midsized trucks to avoid? All he did was give some pros and cons on all available midsized trucks. So do you avoid all of the trucks he talked about. No such vehicle is perfect they all have some issues and all break down at some point. If you listen to everyone who thinks they are experts and maybe not owned any of the trucks mentioned you will never buy a vehicle. Just buy what you like and enjoy it! I own a 2021 Ridgeline touring edition and I love it. 90 percent of people who buy a truck use it for work or weekend yard work or going to home depot. The rest of 10 percent use their trucks for towing all the time and go off reading.
I will say again , nissan pro 4x got a low rate , every person I’ve talked to that owns this truck loves it. Not one person said anything bad. I’m a Tacoma guy, but will be changing to nissan . Think Nissan company just needs to kick up some payola to right people to get better ratings. Unfortunately it’s the American way.
I bought a 2022 ridgeline black edition. I was looking for a midsize comfortable midsize truck for road-trips best choice I made. Not to small not to big a lot of storage space best truck for road-trip cross country

I drove them ALL. Really wanted a Tacoma. After driving it I opted out. It felt like a 10yo truck. I ended up with the Ranger. It wasn't even on my radar. If you look at reviews where they actually drive the trucks, the Ranger is generally the favorite. I bought mine in 2-22. I am still extremely happy with it. If you are shopping for a mid-sized truck I would suggest test driving them all. It's hard to listen to a vehicle review from a guy sitting behind a desk.
I test drove most of these trucks, and the one I chose was the pro4x in the Baja storm color, she’s my daily driver and everyday I like the truck more and more. I would avoid the maverick at all cost!
I rented a new Tacoma last year and didn't like it, not a good highway truck ... so I am wondering why do they sell so many ? I think the Ridgeline is a much better truck than the Tacoma for highway cruising, comfort and features.
I work at a Honda dealership. Expect much expensive maintenance. V6 Honda is belt driven vrs Toyota has chain. Overall longevity Toyota will be less maintenance.
Very in accurate and misleading title to this video. This is not a list of midsize trucks to avoid. This is a list of midsize trucks and their features/scores. Why not make the title match what the video actually shows????
My top best five for (22): #1 tacoma (v6 awd) #2 Colorado (v6/diesel awd) #3 gladiator (v6 awd) #4 frontier(? Don’t know variants) #5 maverick These 27k listings don’t exist anywhere idk where that number is coming from. I put maverick over ranger because it is a new angle and I consider the only true mid size. These trucks are getting big. And the realest options for most. Try finding a Silverado for under 45k All the ‘23 models have dinky engines and turbo has me scared on reliability.
I've got on of those horrible, unreliable(according to CR and JDPOWER) Nissan trucks. It's actually my third Nissan truck. All were completely reliable with nothing but regular maintenance. I only keep trucks for around 250 k miles before I get a new one. I don't know at what point they stop being reliable . It has to be sometime after 250k miles.

2023 Nissan frontier SV $40,000 MSRP. Lease at 339 a month. 10 k a year. 24 months lease. Trading out of a 2020 Jeep Cherokee trailhawk with 25,000 miles getting 25,000 trade-in value. Only doc fee and first month's payment due at signing. They are adding heated seats, remote start and tint. How'd I do ? Could have bought the trailhawk for $22,000. But was thinking about warranty and also never had a truck before. Crew cab to boot. And I'm surprised it really does get up and go pretty good when passing. A lot of these for cylinders these days just aren't powered especially without the turbo

Every time I think of looking at something other than the tacoma Im met with the same answer. Looks like Im totally set on getting a trd off road tacoma.
The only way you could’ve done it take each vehicle keep it for a month run it through its chores then make a valid decision at this point it’s just your opinion you haven’t lived with either truck or go to customers that I’ve lived with it for a month and then you can tell what you say.
I have now had my Ranger Lariat Tremor for 9mo and I couldn’t be happier. It’s a friggin truck, has enough tech for me, 21mpg in mixed use, and looks great. I love it more than my ‘18 Tacoma TRD Off Road. Just my opinion on my experience with both trucks. Never had a need for larger trucks.

His review of the new Frontier was BS. I have owned my 2022 Nissan Frontier PRO4X for almost a year and I have no complaints with the truck. Nice smooth ride and the interior finishes suit my needs.
This video was an eye-opener. It proves it is best to ignore all the "expert" ratings and go with your personal experience from driving the truck. Case in point -- this video puts the Tundra in its Top 10. The Tundra is a 4-cylinder under-powered dog yet costs several thousand more than the better equipped more powerful 6-cylinder Frontier. The better choice is a no brainer.
Midsize TRUCK was in the description. Three of those vehicles where not trucks. Just because it has hauling capabilities behind the passengers, doesn't mean it's a truck.
Ford Maverick Pros: nice small truck one of 2 really that are "small" not large. Can do a lot of stuff and get decent MPG to boot. Cons: Ford appears to be trying to be #1 in something and that seems to be recalls. Santa Cruz Pros: its different(i like that most times), its got the small bed and trunk under the bed so storage is better than most small/mid size trucks. I like the Maverick I believe one of the things you cant get even fully loaded is a passenger side power seat. Cons in all but the base model they come with a pre time ticking blowing up transmission.. youd have thought that by now they would know that transmission sucks..its almost like youre buying it and knowing its gonna blow up at some time you just dont know what the timer on yours is set for.. its like the old Subaru Foresters whos head gaskets self exploded at a random time... Only question was when? I almost bought one of these till I saw and looked deeper into the transmission issues on Turbo(they good one) models and then removed it from list, Tacoma Pros: I had a 1995 was great never went to shop for anything but oil changes, tire rotations and inspections. Now its a bit long in the tooth and while reliability is a strong suit for it Cons: its engine is great/reliable but sucks down the gas and the NVH between the transmission and Engine is not good, Interior may be the most cramped of any of the vehicles I reviewed(aka looked at) while shopping. In the Tacomas up to 20203 the back seat may as well be rear seat delete and maybe a 5-7 year old could fit and be comfortable back there. lets see if the new 24 redo of this lives up to the names,,, but even that one we have already seen a well known RUclipsr have one blow up something that appeared to be something in the front transfer case or thats what it seemed like to me and that was during some relatively light off roading also. Older model years work, are reliable NVH,seat room are close to bottom of the barrel. Oh and go look up mid size and a similar Toyota and watch it be 5K+ more for the same amenities just because it says Toyota on it. Ford Ranger..well look I wanted it to be great also as a viable alternative.. ford botched it though and here it is 2024 with a whole new redesign.. I think that in itself says all we need to know about that. I am hoping for the 2024 to be better.. but again can it beat Fords race to #1... #1 in overall recalls for a year. I dont know what happened over at Ford maybe they laid off their QC staff to save a buck? Honda Ridgeline Pros: Ride and handling beats anything else in this category, reliability pretty much just like Toyota..its a Honda its what they are known for, bigger interior space than the others in this category, the storage in back seat, under back seat and the trunk are great. Cons? Look if youre looking at a ridgeline you already knows it either will or wont do what you need as far as towing/hauling stuff around so its almost a non factor.. if you need to tow above 4 or5K lbs look elsewhere this isnt your truck. The only other con I could come up with was Nice "Truck" unibody construction will get that hardcore body on frame guy to tell you its not a real truck.. but do you if youre looking at a ridgeline really care what that guy says? I know I dont..If im one looking at the Ridgeline I already know its limitations, accept them and it still does everything I need and a few things better.(this was one of my 2 finalists) Canyon/GMC colorado/Canyon. Pros they look nice, they have a lot of tech available, I know im probably in the minority but I actually like the v6 offerings more than the newer turbo 4's . They ride decently. Cons with all that tech you can get is it a overload of it just waiting for a giant out of warranty repair bill? I love tech and I hate tech.. I like enough that I can hook a phone up to it for anv or music/podcasts. but some of them are just going a bit into overload with it. For a long time this was the 3rd on my list and still hasnt fully come off the list.. I will say id rather have a 2022 than a 2024 just due to the v6 vs turbo4. Jeep Gladiator: Pros if I was off-roading a lot.. This may be my first pick. My Nephew has one and has had little to no issues with it(Mojave Model) Ive driven it and it was good didnt bother me on a short ride I guess Pros were good back seat room. The rest however its mostly cons, its noisy the seats are ok but not great very little sound deadening, that about it though this one I didnt consider long as id never use it off road... its my #1 pick for off road guys/gals and id not even consider it if youre just daily driving it. and Reliability.....I dont think we even need to go into that... only pro currently with that is they cant sell them so you can get 15-20% under invoice right now AND I just saw a deal on a new(leftover) 23 Willys edition sell for $39K Nissan Frontier Pros: actually has a decent on road ride, the tech for what you get for the price a Pro4X is about the equivalent for Toyota of the TRD Pro Off Road Tacoma yet Tacoma will cost you about 5K+ more... in 2024 it will cost you even more than that. The back seats not "roomy" but its also not as cramped as the Tacoma or Colorado.. I set the seats in all the ones I tested to my 5'10" height then sat directly behind my seating position in them most room was the Jeep, then the Ridgeline, and then the Frontier, colorado/gmc and then the Tacoma(dont know if the 24 improved that any yet) loved the LED headlights, the seats were among the most comfortable in the class... Ridgeline was close. Cons Some would say the steering because its Hydraulic not electric.. for me I actually liked it but some could say its a con.

I have a first generation Ridgeline RT and it's the best running and practical for me truck I've had since my 1991 Toyota Hilux extended cab. The second generation Ridgeline is a good looking truck on the inside outside......eh
Drove the Ranger Tremor, nice truck, nice visibility, rides like a truck. Nissan 4x pro, very nice, lots of bells and whistles. Good visibility and rides like a truck but not much storage. Tacoma felt tinny, not great visibility, and the worst ride and comfort. I never liked the look of the Honda Ridgeline, but with the new design, especially in 2022, it looks very nice. Ride, comfort, visibility, and overall quality with AWD it seemed the best to me. The trunk under the bed is super spacious, and under the back seat is all storage. I liked Tacoma the least and wasn't crazy about the maverick. I would never buy a Hyundai. After researching and looking for 6 months, I ended up purchasing a 2022 Honda ridgeline RTL-E. I've been driving it about 2 weeks now and absolutely love it. Unibody gives it an extremely comfortable ride, and it feels like a solid vehicle. I would like a bit more clearance but intend to put a 2 1/2" to 3" leveling kit. If you plan on doing a lot of hard core off-roading and need the ground clearance, the others will be a better option. In my opinion, the top 3 in order are: Ridgeline RTL-E , Frontier 4X PRO, and ranger Tremor.
@ScottVamp you want a real LOL. Go check out a ridgeline for yourself. Honda has done nothing that remotely copies the tacoma. If Toyota took a page out of Hondas playbook, it would only improve the tacoma. Don't drink the koolaid.
@DevilDog53 you are correct; for me, that's part of the appeal. When I was a young man, I had several of the "trucks." Now, the Ridgeline is perfectly suitable for my needs, including comfort. Semper Fidelis, brother.
Wasn’t as harsh I expected from the intro. One thing that is mentioned briefly that’s important is value. Nissan and Toyota have become super expensive to the point something that a traditional all around strong truck that’s easy to find 10-15k less makes more sense to me.
I got a Frontier SV in February from a 09 Ridgeline. Needed more towing , didnt want to pay 70$K for a full size and did NOT trust the turbos. Nothing wrong with the Santa Fe or the Maverick but cant stretch the idea of a truck that far. If a new Ridgeline could tow more, I would have gone that way but theres not a great new vehicle change between my new Frontier and my older Honda. That is not knocking the Nissan.
I'm 81 years old. Bought my first car at age 19. Since then I've owned over 150 cars, trucks and motorcycles. (Truth.) I recently purchased a new (2024) Frontier Pro X. I would rank it is one of the top vehicles I have ever owned. (Also truth.) I also agree that I would be much more trusting of Frontier owners and their opinions than I am of "one-shot" reviewers, who may or may not have a vested interest. I usually have a favorable opinion of "Everyman Driver," but he fell far short on this one.

Im not sold on the new Nissan for reliability as most past Nissans/Renault had weak quality throughout the lineup. Maybe the new one will fair better as they said the new lineup has better quality.
My least favorite is either the Tacoma or Gladiator. I just can’t get over that seating position in the Tacoma. I’d go Canyon or Ridgeline if I was going Midsize, but I’ll keep my crew cab Ram for now.
Well I have the frontier and I can tell you the people who rated it don't drive trucks. It was the only pickup I saw on the list, the rest were toys or station wagons without the hatch. Oh I forgot the double entry from GMC/Chevy.
Video title was "Mid sized trucks to avoid". He pretty much listed all the mid sized trucks available, so I am still trying to figure out which trucks to not avoid and then he didn't rank them, but he said he did. I now know what RUclips channel to avoid.
My thoughts exactly…
I was thinking the exact same thing!!
Either this video was poorly labeled or the title was designed to be Clickbait.
Oh you can get the ranger apparently. Only one he didn’t list I think. Probably the worst one.
Totally wrong. Do not waste time in this channel
@@jordangraf673 It’s definitely not the worst one. You’ve got to be kidding me
Honestly, when a vehicle is given a con just because it lacks certain electronics and safety features, I have to laugh.
@@Kingswood7189 I think the simplest the better. All these new gadgets are more of a distraction then anything. Or maybe it’s just me becoming older.
Enough said!
Had a 2007 that hadn’t had single problem. Great truck. Congrats on your purchase! 👍🏻
For the money Nissan frontier.
Had a 1999 and 20067 both great. had a 1995 Tacoma and that was fine also but id not pay more $$ for it then the Nissan.@@hmitch74
i have had the same experience with my 2022 Frontier S King Cab 4x4.
Bought my first Nissan frontier . Test drove most midsized trucks and that was the best value I could find. Glad I did as it’s a really great vehicle
I got a 2022 pro4x in white. Had this truck for 5 months now with no problems. Really love this truck,it performs great!

I love mine as well .. great value
After reading all these reviews. Sounds like the Nissan Frontier is a pretty good truck. I believe the owners more than the critics on any of these vehicles. 🤔
I had an 06, only ever did brakes/oil/coolant.
I gave that one to dad and bought a 2017. Love it and expect 15 years out of this one too.
The reviews on the updated frontier are excellent from what I’ve seen.
I have a 2014 frontier and I love it
Yeah, overall frontier is number 1 for me I have 2022 proX in white! But I will agree the steering needs to be Electric Power steering but that is coming from someone that had a GMC Canyon with real smooth steering.
Seems like Nissan didn't pay the KBB and JD mafia.
I love my 2013 Nissan Frontier . This guy can go suck his own tity
I bought a Nissan pro 4x in November been a outstanding truck so far.. running the shale washboard roads of Montana everyday this vehicle takes no prisoners ! I have been avg 20.7 mpg on reg not bad for a truck that weighs close to 4600 lbs.
Same mileage with my 2020
Same here this guy is a clown
Does it still turn like a school bus
@@bobafatt2155 😆 I wish there were a perfect truck! But there’s not.

Exactly.
Bought the Ridgeline Sport 2022 , it was really hard to find, drove 6 hours to get but it was worth it.
Drove 4hrs to buy mine
I purchased my 2022 Ridgeline touring in December. $1000 off MSRP, and a 9 minute drive. Didn’t even have to stop for snacks.👍🇨🇦
Sounds like their Bronco issue too!
Good to know. It was on my list of possibilities for pulling my kayak trailer, but I guess I need to look elsewhere
It's a ford. What else would be expected. I personally am not brand loyal to any brand. I will consider anything, but a ford.
That's with any ford
i considered it but i've read that the hybrid braking can be particularly 'jerky' when trying to come to a slow stop (i.e., you can't)
Been driving frontiers since 2014. Got the new Pro4x in November. Does every thing I need. Four wheeling in Vermont. Very happy with the Frontier.
I’m thinking of buying one. How is the infotainment system?
@@jacksonhill2303
Works for me. I use a flash drive and Sirius for most music. I plug in my iPhone for Apple play. The truck has navigation but I use Waze and works great on the truck’s screen. Siri and Alexa work fine.
Bought the new ranger last year. 14k miles and I’ve enjoyed every one. No complaints at all. The drivetrain is just awesome
27mpg? Isn't it rated 21?

My criteria, in order, are safety features then freeway comfort, and finally utility. Price figures only after I decided on trim. Example for safety is getting alerts when backing up at Costco. Example for comfort is back support when on the freeway. I welcome your comments.
I still luv my 2022 boulder gray Nissan Frontier 4x smooth and quite inside with 20mpg average
Ohhhh You're the guy who bought one 🤣
Tacoma will get 22MPG all day.
I’m very pleased with my 2022 Frontier Kingcab. Excellent drive and I have no problem getting 20+ mpg.
If someone is out there saying that the only truck is a one-tonne, lifted, chipped, and belching smoke on seven foot tires, then I would recommend therapy to overcome the smaller than average penis, and recognize that stock Land Rovers have explored the world, every inch of it without a lift kit, chip, and a mortgage worth of add-ons.
great
OUCH !
How many miles on it now and hows it held up? Do you still like it?
I’ll still take the Frontier.

My 2016 Tacoma V6 is outstanding too. 80k trouble free miles so far
I get same mileage as you have
Reliability wise, it's a great pick up... but that's about it.
Yota will look, feel and sound the same from day one to 300k miles later. I just can not come up with the 45k to buy one
@@paulnewhart4838 - The Ridgeline is better, I'd rather pay more and get the better and more comfortable vehicle...
Hope you enjoy your Ridgeline for many years, my 2008 (original owner) is still going strong.
@@e5m956 I went with the Ridgeline. Found a dealer that wasn't marking up the MSRP.
My ranking would be
Ranger, Ridgeline, Frontier, Tacoma.....

Bought a Ranger last year and she's barely at 5500 Miles and I absolutely love her! Tall and drives nice and smooth, also picks up speed fast too. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
Wait until your turbo starts to leak oil. I would of bought the Tacoma. Toyota also has better resale value.
I drove the ranger for a couple of months and fell in love with it so much room in the back the handling was great just loved it
But yes it is the turbo and all the electronics that is stopping me from buying one
@@jaysmith179 I don't like Toyota and I don't buy my cars to sell them later on.

New Frontier is a great truck. Bought the Pro 4x end of last year and it rides nice. I’m hoping I will love this truck as much as the 1st generation 2006 Honda Ridgeline I used to drive.
The majority of reviews I’ve seen mention heavy steering. What’s your experience/opinion?

Glad you were ok In That accident. God is good!! I love the tacomas too. They are built to last!
Glad you didn’t get hurt! Hope the other driver was okay too.
Ridgeline is the best midsize
Nice!
The only problem is you have to use premium fuel
Frontier is the best midsize truck easily. Whoever ranks these knows nothing.
Total obvious copy cat of the Tacoma and good luck with a first gen Nissan engine.

2022 frontier is the best truck out there in its class

I think the Ranger has the best powertrain for US midsize trucks.

These 27k listings don’t exist anywhere idk where that number is coming from. I put maverick over ranger because it is a new angle and I consider the only true mid size. These trucks are getting big. And the realest options for most. Try finding a Silverado for under 45k
All the ‘23 models have dinky engines and turbo has me scared on reliability.
I can't think of any midsize truck that exists that wasn't covered in this video.
And, the Maverick isn't midsize, it's a compact.

Midsize TRUCK was in the description. Three of those vehicles where not trucks. Just because it has hauling capabilities behind the passengers, doesn't mean it's a truck.
Ok, gotcha.
I almost bought one of these till I saw and looked deeper into the transmission issues on Turbo(they good one) models and then removed it from list,
Tacoma Pros: I had a 1995 was great never went to shop for anything but oil changes, tire rotations and inspections.
The only other con I could come up with was
Nice "Truck" unibody construction will get that hardcore body on frame guy to tell you its not a real truck.. but do you if youre looking at a ridgeline really care what that guy says? I know I dont..If im one looking at the Ridgeline I already know its limitations, accept them and it still does everything I need and a few things better.(this was one of my 2 finalists)
Canyon/GMC colorado/Canyon.
The rest however its mostly cons, its noisy the seats are ok but not great very little sound deadening, that about it though this one I didnt consider long as id never use it off road... its my #1 pick for off road guys/gals and id not even consider it if youre just daily driving it. and Reliability.....I dont think we even need to go into that... only pro currently with that is they cant sell them so you can get 15-20% under invoice right now AND I just saw a deal on a new(leftover) 23 Willys edition sell for $39K
Nissan Frontier Pros: actually has a decent on road ride, the tech for what you get for the price a Pro4X is about the equivalent for Toyota of the TRD Pro Off Road Tacoma yet Tacoma will cost you about 5K+ more... in 2024 it will cost you even more than that.

LOL - as all the competitors in the midsize market copy the Tacoma, king of the midsize truck by far.
Don’t tell us that Maverick is $20,000 in show and all-wheel-drive you don’t get an all-wheel-drive for $20,000
I got a Frontier SV in February from a 09 Ridgeline.
