for thorns, there's a couple spots you can cdash off of. doing this is WAY easier than the mag skip. in fact, i know this bc i was routing this myself a few weeks ago. didn't know you could get isma's w/o dash tho, that looks absolutely insane.
7:34 somehow throughout all my time playing hk I never realised that the shop popup actually has a little icon of the shopkeeper on top. It's amazing all the little details this game has
You don't get Wings and Dive in this run, so even though certain areas aren't blocked by bosses (they're counted in the 68%) you still can't reach them.

First time viewer here: I like the shorter videos because they're easier to watch during random daily intervals. I like this format, and I think a video between 10 to 20 min works well for these types of challenges. Regarding the challenge itself, I remember on my Switch playthrough of HK, I picked up the god tuner item from the junkyard without actually fighting any of the pantheons. So technically, you can get 1% from the god tuner without getting the extra 4% associated with each of those 4 pantheons. Obviously, without any bosses, you cannot challenge the pantheons anyway.

8:38 You can still get the 482 total essence from Whispering Roots and 26 total essence from Dream Nailing spirits. Though of course, some of those are likely locked off by requiring dash/dive, and even if they *weren't,* you'd still need 1,892 more essence...
Amazing video man! And I don’t blame you at all for not grinding essence for dozens upon dozens of hours, I can’t imagine how that would feel. Anyway, keep up the great work! And I really enjoyed this type of challenge video, the editing was concise and shows what it needed.
This could be a speedrun category: High% No Boss and No Major Glitches. Although you'd not be able to beat the game, so Uumuu, Watcher Knights and Hollow Knight are allowed.
Awesome run! I appreciate the editing, it's so much more convenient to watch a to the point 10 mins video over an hour long version. Also, please don't do the essence grind, you are gonna go insane, and I think as viewers we would much rather prefer you executing new ideas over 100+ hours of essence grind.
What about getting spell twister by opening lower door in sanctum by hitting the lever though the floor or with dash slash through the door therefore skipping soul warrior? And couldn't you get shape of unn by using use map skip on hornet 1?
the dash slash skip was patched unfortunately about the map glitch thing, tbh we totally forgot about it. my excuse would probably be that we didnt want to use glitches lmao

It is considered a Major Glitch :tm: by the speedrunning leaderboards though (or rather not something that's allowed in no major glitches ruleset)
Really cool video! Personally I'd love to see a little more of the most difficult tricks, just to really emphasize which parts of the challenge stand out and make it unique. But overall the video was very enjoyable to watch and the challenge seems very interesting :) By the way, is there any major glitch that allows for fast essence grinding? I know glitches aren't allowed for most speedruns but on a challenge like this if there's any sort of essence cheese (eg quitting after a dream boss to get the essence without killing it) then I wouldn't be opposed to seeing it used here. Save editing is of course an option too, like you did, but I think a glitch might be more interesting if others were to try this :)
I saw someone else do the isma's tear without dung defender skip. I wanted to see what was behind the area you drain his acid from without using the lever. I didn't use the fireball push but dashed from the nearby ledge to get into the correct spot. That couldn't be done here but now I can see what it looks like. I do like shorter videos though; 1 hour is a long time versus 10 or 20 minutes.

You said 5% for “godhome things”, but one of those things is merely godtuner which is given to you once you unlock the godtuners cage with a simple key. This makes the actual total to try and get close to 69%
the charms I think you might have been able to get are, quick slash, and baldur shell, and ones that I'm not entirely sure you can get but think you can are, soul eater, and spell twister,
I know that i'm very late, but i think that once you get the isma's tears, you can do a hornet 1 Skip with the map, allowing us make shape of unn if i'm not wrong and making us get a 1% more but incredible video, you deserve at least 100K your videos are incredible

You could definitely get a few more percent, such as the half of kingsoul, spell twister, (patch dependent) baulder shell (I remember you picking it up it doesn't show up on the final charm screen) shape of unn, and shade soul (patch dependent)
A little suggestion you maybe should change the way subtitles appear instead of flying in (Use fade in or something else) and change the subtitle font to font related to hollow knight (or just the hollow knight font). I think that will make the video look more professional and more appealing.
Don't you have access to royal waterways? There's an area with a bunch of little fluke maggots or something. They don't attack or even move, but they still give you soul and essence, you just gotta cdash through all of them, they'll just die. I think that's much faster than the method used in that 40+ hours speedrun.

i think that aquiring shade soul is possible without any boss (the soul warrior doesnt count as a boss). also spell twister and soul eater also also possible

A fantastic and fascinating run as always. I do have a couple questions: 1. Did you count Gruz Mother and Soul Warrior as bosses simply because they're in Godhome? Granted it only locks out an extra 3% (colo 1, Spell Twister, and Shade Soul) but I figured I would ask. 2. I can't remember seeing it in the video, but did you get Herrah? 3. Does the Hornet Map Skip count as a major glitch? That would allow another 1% with Shape of Unn. 4. How much is possible in Steel Soul? Iirc there's an Extremely Precise fireball skip that can be done into mantis village so you can go around the sporg shade skip. But I might be wrong.

Even if they didn't count Gruz Mother, you still run up into Vengefly King in Colo 1, whether you fight it saving Zote in Greenpath, or neglect Zote and fight it in Colo 1.
a couple of questions - on the final screenshot, where is baldur shell? - do it on a grimm troupe (pre-lifeblood) version so you can bypass hive knight without losing anything cuz you couldn't do godhome or or hive knight anyway. - 2:30 why not just epogo? - i think i've seen fireb0rn shadeskip up to the back of the shade soul room ond dash slash open the door from the outside is that allowed under nmg and is it possible in current patch or pre-lifeblood
1. its either a bug or i accidentally used a save state after picking up baldur shell. its weird though 2. we wanted to do it on cp 3. epogo needs dash 4. thats patched in cp
@@FIREOWLHK 3. Epogo doesn't actually need dash, there exists a fireball only version but it is very cursed and also you can do a different cursed fireball skip to get into mantis village that gap to the right there is barely possible with 3 fireballs.
baldur shell was picked up but didn’t show in the final screen for some reason. shape of unn is technically possible but we forgot about that skip so we decided to ban glitches lol
Wait, is there a required boss check guarding Herrah? ik she herself doesn't count as a boss, nor does her area, the only boss in deep i can think of is nosk and, while yes one of the entrances is guarded by mantis lords, the other isn't. Does it require a dash (or wings) somewhere, because you've found some pretty neat work arounds in other areas that normally require dash

Couldn’t you have gotten 1% more by getting hive blood on a pre lifeblood update patch? Ehh that’s a bit of a stretch anyway. I do wonder how many more you could get on a more glitched patch but that seems like a way more difficult question to answer.
Isn't it theoretically possible to get it if you skip hornet by using a map, get shape of Unn and then teleport back? Can't you walk straight past hornet if you have a map open?
if possible, next time could you show, from the potential 68%, what you couldn't get. I feel like it would put more into perspective the challenge of the run, or maybe something like "due to this, these certain things aren't possible to obtain"

You should be able to get an extra 1% from the Godmaster update, as picking up the godtuner counts as a % without having to kill a boss.

theres no way to get into mantis vault without beating lords, even by glitching yourself in, you cant flick the lever from the otherside

- do it on a grimm troupe (pre-lifeblood) version so you can bypass hive knight without losing anything cuz you couldn't do godhome or or hive knight anyway.
- 2:30 why not just epogo?
- i think i've seen fireb0rn shadeskip up to the back of the shade soul room ond dash slash open the door from the outside is that allowed under nmg and is it possible in current patch or pre-lifeblood

1. its either a bug or i accidentally used a save state after picking up baldur shell. its weird though

@@FIREOWLHK 3. Epogo doesn't actually need dash, there exists a fireball only version but it is very cursed and also you can do a different cursed fireball skip to get into mantis village that gap to the right there is barely possible with 3 fireballs.
There is no % for p5. The fifth % from godmaster is godtuner, and no bosses are required for it, just a simple key.

baldur shell was picked up but didn’t show in the final screen for some reason. shape of unn is technically possible but we forgot about that skip so we decided to ban glitches lol

Wait, is there a required boss check guarding Herrah? ik she herself doesn't count as a boss, nor does her area, the only boss in deep i can think of is nosk and, while yes one of the entrances is guarded by mantis lords, the other isn't. Does it require a dash (or wings) somewhere, because you've found some pretty neat work arounds in other areas that normally require dash

Couldn’t you have gotten 1% more by getting hive blood on a pre lifeblood update patch? Ehh that’s a bit of a stretch anyway. I do wonder how many more you could get on a more glitched patch but that seems like a way more difficult question to answer.

Isn't it theoretically possible to get it if you skip hornet by using a map, get shape of Unn and then teleport back? Can't you walk straight past hornet if you have a map open?

if possible, next time could you show, from the potential 68%, what you couldn't get. I feel like it would put more into perspective the challenge of the run, or maybe something like "due to this, these certain things aren't possible to obtain"
