- Welcome to Cursed Runs, a series where I do some of the hardest Hollow Knight categories out there.
Today, inspired by a previous video, we obtain 33% without picking up a single ability. Some of the skips required to do this were though to be TAS only or straight up impossible before this was routed. Special thanks to ImDaDirtyDan, IronRose and daanolav who helped make this run possible.

Or even allowing spells. Fireball Skips and Stallball could lead to some crazy skips, and Dive unlocks Godhome and pantheons, leading to more crazy stuff.

So many of the random things in this video were terrifying like the fact you have a use for heavy blow and sprint master+dashmaster without dash
that was a cool video, here's hoping you do a sequel on how much farther you can get when allowing dreamnail
It really doesn’t add anything, mostly just means hours of essence grinding and all the skips of the run get easier
@@imdadirtydan You could probably do dome dumb stuff by chaining dreamgates.
@@Voidling242 it just lets you chain shade skips, but there’s not really anywhere you can chain them and get somewhere it matters before hitting a wall or gap you can’t get over anyway

I think my favorite thing about these cursed runs is the weird charms that are required, and sprintmaster has got to be the best one yet - never in a million years would have thought that would ever be required xD I absolutely love these videos!

I love this channel. The insane things that you do to the game, the it changes the way you look at simple game mechanics, the wonderfully told story of each video, and even down to the clean edits and even use of pauses and breaks in the video with just black screen. Amazing work!
What a fantastic video!!! It was really interesting to watch and some of those skips are absolutely nuts. The bit at the end explaining why other % aren’t gettable was very helpful!! And I would DEF be interested in a video where you *do* get dreamnail!!
I really think that you should make a separate video for completion percentage with Dream Nail. This video was great, so I really wanna see how much more we can get with Dream Nail.

At least one person is interested in seeing the dreamnail-allowed version's additions
Those additions are pretty much entirely some boring boss fights and a crap ton of essence grinding, tbh all it does is make the skips in the run easier and makes it more boring

I watched Skurry's video yesterday about how they spent over 40 hours killing birds to farm essence for awoken dreamnail. That pales in comparison to the persistence and dedication you demonstrated here. Bravo!!

Yo the shade acid skip was sick. It looked super painfull, but sick.
the whole time i kept trying to guess at what is and isnt possible and im happy i got a lot of them right! and the methods of getting places too! since i do a lot of randos and frequently dont have the movement required to get places i know a lotta shade skips but even to me,,, *oh boy* that acid skip to uuwuu was CURSED

9:29 when shade has no hitbox XD, neat video, never thought it was even possible.
I actually made use of the royal waterway/fungal wastes shade skip you presented in the first video. I was playing a randomizer where shade skips could be required and where I could spawn in other places besides king's pass. Guess what, I appeared in Cornifer's room in Royal waterways. I got the few things I could get in royal waterways, then realized I had to the shade skip.
...Then I also had to figure out on my own how to do the shade skips required to climb all the way to the leg eater. That was memorable.

This was so interesting! I can’t believe your tenacity with some of these cursed skips. I once did a run getting 102% without dash, but I wonder if you’d be able to get more? Keep up the awesome Hollow Knight content!

@@benjaminmenist anything you can do on pc you can do on console. the only tough parts about max% dashless is white palace
Maybe I'll try continuing the run then, I also remember a specific part of queen's gardens being tricky as I couldn't cdash on the falling platforms and had to do some tight double jumps to reach the grub, can't remember if that increased the percentage tho
A lot of max% dashless is locked behind shade gates. I count 6% (dash itself for 2%, Traitor Lord/Kingsoul for 2%, Sharp Shadow for 1%, Markoth for 1%). Everything else is presumably possible.

BTW you don't need to shade skip at 6:07 if you align your player correctly, it's cursed.
No shade skip at 6:33 and 8:23 needed (low% CP epogo exists)
9:57 how zote dies is both claw and specific rooms, there is no known/shared list AFAIK as to what rooms zote dies to but that's how it works.
1. i did the shade skip anyway cause god im not doing that jump it would take longer then just shade skipping

@@FIREOWLHK 1. Fair point, 3. I thought there were more than that but I can believe that and 2. you're right, I had the vague memory of it being possible but yeah it was only possible with 15 FPS (or at least very low FPS)
I would recommend getting 6 masks first before doing the salubra shade skip. This makes it so you can hit the shade 3 times and parry it once.

the lowest you are allowed to limit fps is 50 but going even lower makes the skip easier. itemless blue lake gets easier everytime for me but it took about half an hour this time

There is another abilitiless way to enter fungal
If you open up the menu the same moment you grab a mask shard you can fly from the shard near the hot spring in crossroads entering fungal from above
Sounds like a major glitch, the likes of which are avoided for challenges like these.

Btw are you sure dung defender is unreachable? I remember there being some flukemon you can lure all the way to that wall to pogo (but idk if you can get there with no abilities at all)
yeah you need wings for that unfortunately
The real issue with dung defender is the next room - a room with nothing in it that requires a tall jump

The edits are already top-notch and perhaps you lack only the confidence for narrating, but I can't remember of anyone who tried it out and goat heat from their viewers. Perhaps consider showing a narrated video to a few of your Discord members at first, you'll certainly receive positive feedback that will make you more comfortable using your voice :)

hey thanks for the words of wisdom! i might experiment with more voice in videos in the future, at the moment its very convenient for collabs where i can simply get in a call with someone and record a video. in terms of full edited runs like these, i haven't ever really done commentary of the sort for this style of video. it feels a little bit more "forced" if you know what i mean, im talking to myself in the mic instead of conversing with someone in a discord call.
i do hear you though and its definitely on my mind. im still not 100% comfortable using my voice but its slowly getting there :)

You know, there are various techniques to deal with the weirdness of talking to yourself.
I personally like what is called rubberducking in programming: you put a ruber duck (or a grub plush, hehe) next to your screen and try to explain your code to it. You're obviously not gonna get any answers, but it will feel more like a conversation and the debugging gets easier!
In your case, imagine the chosen interlocutor is a friend who doesn't know HK watching you play :)

Oh hey, its that spike grub that I hate. I did that skip a while ago, and it took me like five hours... also WHAT!? YOU CAN DO THAT WITHOUT CLAW!? WHAT!? I was trying to do a dashless run (until I realized that you can just get mantis claw, and then it was too boring) I spent forever getting up there only to see that there was nowhere to go. You CAN go somewhere though! Im super confused by what happened, but oh well. I have no interest in trying to do that again...
Dream nail could be great, since it technically opens up the idea of beating the game, and it's not an ability, it's a weapon
funfact: the completion score is an ability known in the game files as "world sence"
Whoa, just noticed I’ve watched like all your videos but haven’t subscribed yet! Very sorry, it won’t happen again.
I’m not fully educated on this so please do correct me, but couldn’t you also get into fungal wastes by using long nail to kill forgotten crossroads baldur then going through green path to fog canyon and then queens station, then dying at the bottom right corner spikes and returning to do a shade skip to fungal wastes, though I’m guessing that the shade skip I’m proposing would be impossible because maybe the shade would spawn out of the way of being possible to do a skip on, also love the vid keep up all your hard work you’re really talented!
yeah unfortunately the shade spawns way too low to be useful in queens station. it would mean that low% could be lowered though if it was possible
12:01 is there any problem with just upslashing the grub? i like to do the whole thing anyway but i tried it several times and it worked, so you could theoretically just upslash and free the grub without the shade skip
or does anything go wrong after that?

was watching original upload and it got to the just before hornet 2 fight part where you were saying you dont want to do this again so win first try and then it said video unavailable and i thought that was an editing joke coz you failed the fight first try and were mad 😂but turns out it was really unavailable 😂😂😂
