Chief alum from 97-98 here, this reminds me of so many good times, great games, and a perfect marching records. Big 8 is the reason why Chiefs have never lost a halftime.
Man, when I was 13 I had all big 8s cadences on a CD. I had em all memorized and would play along to it on my little practice pad. 17 years later, I'm crying cuz I remember everything. It was my dream to be big 8 snare player. 💖
Well, both drumlines were great. But here, I'd say Clemson is getting a taste of their own medicine because everytime I see them, another drumline has to sit and listen to Clemson's super long never ending cadences lol. But now, FSU is doing it. But, that's ok!! It's still great! I enjoyed both! lol
@jeremycorreia actually, we are the only team who has explicit permission from the tribe to use their name as their mascot, the chop, and so on. As far as I've been told.
The video sound covers up lots of the dirt. Being there, I can tell you that Clemson was much dirtier. Though I might have a little bias since I go to FSU. But at the same time, I am a drummer, so I know what I hear.
@jeremycorreia I could've sworn this video was about FSU vs Clemson in a drum off and not FAMU. I'm just saying.. there's really no comparison what so ever..
FSU won it.. I think Clemson was more trying cling on after that second round from the marching chiefs... I felt like the noles had planed it out better and chose uniqueness over playing it safe
I could’ve got a scholarship for playing snare for OU marching 110. I ended up joining the military instead. I sometimes sit back and wonder what it would’ve been like if I would’ve chose to March for OU instead… Oh well.. I still practice my rudiments every single day..
@jkx04 actually, there have been members of showbands that have marched the snare and tenor lines of the blue devils, stop putting drumming and percussion in a box as drummers we have the right to be expressive and innovative. drumming is drumming whether show style or corps.
I want to go to Clemson for college, but drum offs are not their thing. I was not particularly impressed with anything the snare line did, and this is coming from a girl who plays snare!
FSU line should have all pulled out their cellphones, yawning and looking at their watches while Clemson was playing, like The Gophers drum line does against the Badgers LOL
@dalton9931 hahaaha u call that WAR SONG UNIQUE??? That has been actually my High school's war song for several years...... we are the home of the Cherokee Indian Reservation. Since our Mascot has been also a Cherokee Indian we use their WAR beat...u might know it as the FSU's Seminole War beat from the BIG 8.... yes FSU is so unique they still war chants from other tribes.... get unique & better & u kmight have a chance on beating UGA oneday!
It is hard for me o even make a comment on this. It's like my wife meeting my girlfriend kinda deal ya know? I like Clemson from being from there but the Noles took my college game in person virginity. Still both did great and i am impressed by both. Go Noles and Tigers?!?!?!?!
As great as this video is, c'mon, Big8 .... can we retire Haitian Hustle (6:00) please? I was there in '98 and we were hacking on that back then when the two Marcus's were running the line. At least change it up a little like Sequence for crying out loud.
clemson has some nice chops but theyre too uptight and sloppy. the tenors had a period of latency during the 2nd cadence and the tonals at 5:46 were extremely sloppy. tonals are a very underated part of a line, and the big 8 are a perfect example of good tonals. it takes a lot of skill to play haitian hustle on the bass drums. the big 8 focuses more on being a unified drumline with few errors rather than focusing on chops like clemson.
with clemson the tenors sound weird kinda like the drums are being dampened so either bad zones or bad tuning but thats my only complaint with fsu all i can hear is the cymbals which i know is not their fault but it just seemed weird clemson wins
actually UGA is famous in GA just as Famous as FSU in Florida. Each state has it top college/university bands. UGA is GA's & sticky FSU is FL's. wow that is sad really ! they should have aMarching Band off Competion each state will have a contest to pick the best from each state to compete in the Finals.USA will host a Nation wide competion to pick USA's BEST MARCHING BAND. then they go International Marching Bands for theInternational Title of the BEST Marching Band. The best band will win!

I am no doubting that at all....I like those latin rhythms that they incorporated into the second cadence...however...minus the eye candy and the flavor....the rhythm did not require as much skill musically...I think if FSU had to play the second cadence that clemson played, it would expose some of the individuals because the cadence required a higher level of mastery of rudiments and of the instrument youre playing....but FSU seemed way more entertaining in this vid

I had it too dude! Used to try to memorize sequence and cap’n cotton on tenors! We used it in my HS drumline to learn Haitian Hustle!
This drum off made me smile over and over again. Some fine playing by FSU.
'95 Chiefs Alum here, thanks for posting! Big Eight, always tight and very entertaining.
Go 'NOLES!
Poor placement of the microphones. All I could hear from FSU was cymbals.
What's the cadence at 5:57, I've seen it elsewhere and would really like to know
Thanks for keeping it alive guys. Good to see all is well. Great shit for real.
Big 8 Alum
Both drumlines rocked it the fuck out but the red head on cymbals from FSU was giving me so much life...lol
ok , Clemson started off stronger but then FSU just took over and finished the show.
@DrumsAndLaxAllDay it seems pretty easy to find out on your own. the tapoff at least
My man in the glasses on the Clemson tenors looks like he knows those beats inside out! Dude just grooves like no other!
@jayhawkerr38 and every other time fsu plays is a testament to how a cymbal line can help your sound
whats your name cadence 9:32 ?????
Well, both drumlines were great. i wish the camera wasnt closest to the quads, i cant hear the snares...
3:06 wat kinda of drum is tht in the background
Great job on both sides
I think it's a mix of the quads, bass drums, and some cymbals--maybe the ones mounted on the snares.
The tap off at 2:43 is messing with my head. so amazing. Is there sheet music anywhere for this (particularly the tap off)?
@jeremycorreia actually, we are the only team who has explicit permission from the tribe to use their name as their mascot, the chop, and so on.
As far as I've been told.
@USMC4341 we actually changed it up alot this year lol
@volcom0928 How about I ask a couple people I know on the line if they would be willing to talk to you? Message me.
Really good battle. Love that visual the snares snuck in at the end. ;)
@jkx04 What's a core style drumline?
@ That my good friend is extremely untrue. Have you ever talked to a drummer whos been a dci about the technique they use?
The video sound covers up lots of the dirt. Being there, I can tell you that Clemson was much dirtier. Though I might have a little bias since I go to FSU. But at the same time, I am a drummer, so I know what I hear.
Damn. FSU's second was groovy as fuck, not to mention some great visuals.
This is great! Gets my pumped for next week! >>----->
Clemson's second cadence is pretty tightttt
That Clemson tenor closest to the camera is high AF
tenors always play better like that lol
@jeremycorreia
I could've sworn this video was about FSU vs Clemson in a drum off and not FAMU. I'm just saying.. there's really no comparison what so ever..
can't hear ANYTHING!! all you hear is tenors when Clemson is playing and cymbals when FSU is playing.
FSU!!! GO NOLES!! FLORIDA STATE!
Is it like a thing in college bands to tune your snares retardedly high?
The section leader from Clemson snare sounds like a woodblock. Probably popped that bottom head. Lol!
@IanDonlin i dont think thats what he meant at all
FSU won it.. I think Clemson was more trying cling on after that second round from the marching chiefs... I felt like the noles had planed it out better and chose uniqueness over playing it safe
FSU, hands down.
Clemson has stepped up their game.
Awesome They both ROCK !!!
I could’ve got a scholarship for playing snare for OU marching 110. I ended up joining the military instead. I sometimes sit back and wonder what it would’ve been like if I would’ve chose to March for OU instead…
Oh well..
I still practice my rudiments every single day..
12:10 was Fire asf🔥🔥🔥
MORE COWBELL!!!!
I'm a gator fan but FSU is ten times better cuz they don't use frickin stands. I mean the Clemson guys are in college why do they need stands?
Matt H. Well tenor drums are heavy, ik they practice with them on and stuff, but it really hurts to have them on for a while
Matt H. Gotta give FSU some respect for all that
Thomas Jackson Pussies...
LOL. These are college lines. Different objective and different player resource.
@jkx04 actually, there have been members of showbands that have marched the snare and tenor lines of the blue devils, stop putting drumming and percussion in a box as drummers we have the right to be expressive and innovative. drumming is drumming whether show style or corps.
good or bad comment
Big 8, 2nd tenor drummer from the left was feelin those cadences! lol
Damn that part at 9:10 was sick!
FSU FSU FSU FSU FSU......hmmmm FSU!! Yessss! Go Noles!!
its funny to see the FSU kids get out of step. (Well cymbals.)
@Bird0290 Thanks, but no thanks... I am & always will be an UGA DRUM LINER ONLY!!!!
I want to go to Clemson for college, but drum offs are not their thing. I was not particularly impressed with anything the snare line did, and this is coming from a girl who plays snare!
lol. girl
clemson's drumline is so clean techincally
....good gracious...
@drumnole
Thanks man. Go Big 8 and CUD!
Are you high?
That read head shook her ass like crazy.
Round 1-Clemson.
@jkx04 do u play percussion, u should try going head to head w/ a FAMU snare drummer and get back to me w/ your "facts" Lol
i wish i could do this
FSU wins but they both need to clean up the snare lines...a lot.
OO Clemson Drum congratulations, you are very good, my respects (Y)
I might have to retract my last comment, FSU's cadences were funkier...lls
GO NOLES!! they won that drum off
1, 2 Buckle my shoe. 3, 4 Shut the door. 5,6 Pick up sticks. 7,8 Gunna play it straight. 9, 10 Let's begin
Love it lol
FSU line should have all pulled out their cellphones, yawning and looking at their watches while Clemson was playing, like The Gophers drum line does against the Badgers LOL
Starting at 7:22, you can hear the faint sound of Clemson's drumline as they get eaten alive.
Both are great but someone PLEASE teach the concept of clean
I think its the complete opposite FSU's line owned that.
@dalton9931 hahaaha u call that WAR SONG UNIQUE??? That has been actually my High school's war song for several years...... we are the home of the Cherokee Indian Reservation. at least FSU shook their sessa this time
It is hard for me o even make a comment on this. It's like my wife meeting my girlfriend kinda deal ya know? I like Clemson from being from there but the Noles took my college game in person virginity. Still both did great and i am impressed by both. Go Noles and Tigers?!?!?!?!
damnit elliott! Why'd you stand right near the cymbals, lol.
Any traditional black college line would roll either
lanesteele240 das fa damn sure
Clemson BEASTED!
Good
FSU redhead symbol player but wiggle though
its dissa pointing to say, but clemson got their shit rocked

7:29 Got that Seminole Swag!
Clemson was cleaner. FSU had a bit more hype.
7:30 = WOW
this makes want to go to fsu and join marching band again... then again I WILL!!!
really don't think the first tenor know what he's doing.
lightning bolt!
unbiased review - FSU took it!

FSU = swag
'Noles by a mile!
2:47....you're the reason why people think cymbals only fuck up drumline...
Round 2- Florida State
almost every snare from fsu did drum corps
FSU has flavor and good choreography....but they cant hang with clemson in pure musicianship...
I am no doubting that at all....I like those latin rhythms that they incorporated into the second cadence...however...minus the eye candy and the flavor....the rhythm did not require as much skill musically...I think if FSU had to play the second cadence that clemson played, it would expose some of the individuals because the cadence required a higher level of mastery of rudiments and of the instrument youre playing....but FSU seemed way more entertaining in this vid
roll tide :')
BIg 8 Sequence
FSU did pretty well
Round 3-Clemson wasn't bad, but.....I mean it was Sequence that FSU played. That's tough to beat. Lol
