The band I used to play in was graced by Jason's presence at a show we were playing. I so happy and proud that I can say I played drums live with him one night and played Outfit. I have the recording!
“Some people never got over ‘Nam. Or the time their band opened for Nirvana.” - Nick Hornby, High Fidelity. In all seriousness, that’s amazing and something no one can ever take away from you...
Man... The tone of that first G chord and the little D to C riff is perfection.. Not to mention the poetry that is the lyrics. Quite a talent, quite a group. The "don't tell them you're bigger than jesus don't give it away" is a fantastic couplet..its open to interpretation and he's great at that.. I'll stop now lol 😂 I just love this tune.
Jason is a brilliant artist He writes from the heart, and the poetry he dresses and weaves music around is simply wonderful A rare talent and his music resonates Love this song
Lyrics are lyrics but the ability to use tones in timing is heaven sent . Why it’s so pleasing and almost addicting where you don’t get tired of it has to do with the mind. What is important to the mind for improving and healing .?
@jasonisbell going through some storms right now. I was 16 with my first born. I feel your gratitude and pain and love in this song. I have written a song response to this from my perspective to my son by him just being born by far was a gift I didn’t know I needed as I write this your guitar solo is on and I feel you and my son 😢 thank you for making me feel it from his pov. I’m living in Nashville and moving back to Colorado on 9/11/23 so if you get this would love for you to hear my words. God bless you Jason Michael ❤
I like how guys like Josh Baze and these guys; Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit are making a name for themselves by putting their new music on youtube. This generation is one of the best in music we've ever had.
And for what it's worth, among gals, Gretchen Peters has written some songs that are on a par with Isbell's, and vice-versa. (At least in my own view.) One example here ... ruclips.net/video/17s_aJfSrrI/видео.html
Discovered him when he was with DBT and went to many shows. It wasn't until after he left that I realized that every DBT song that I loved was one that he had written. For me, he was the creative force behind that band. Now I have to say I go to way more Jason Isbell shows than I do DBT.
@@jhzab666l I was friends with a drive-by truckers when Jason was still in the band.. He was still married to the bassist an all was still good. I will admit that Jason Isabell had a lotta good songs but I actually liked about as many Cooley songs as I did his. I’m not taking anything away from Jason. I watched him get skinny I watched him divorce his wife and move away from the drive-by truckers and that’s life man we all go through that kind of shit he’s not a bad guy and he’s a super talented songwriter. I still think that about that magical time he was in the drive-by truckers..it helped make him into the man he is now. I’m sure he might have his own opinions on that matter. I thought it was interesting that the next time I saw him, after his days with the D,rive by Truckers, was playing with Widespread Panic. He whe was playing an es-335 and seemed really happy. I glad he found his way because he deserves it very talented songwriter with good taste in guitars. Next time you come over Jason I’ll let you play my Santa Cruz if you’ll bring that old Les Paul....lol... I just want to know I found a whole new refuge in your work.
Cooley and Hood are both excellent songwriters and performers. DBT was excellent before Jason and are still excellent without him. Jason is great, but so is DBT.
That Deuzy is awesome too. Wish he was still bringing it out. He's not been playing it lately, but they just keep getting better and better. Just saw him at Fox Oakland and wow. Spectacular!!!
Just saw him a couple of weeks ago in Germany and he doesn't have it at all. He does have an awesome 3 pickup LP Custom in Wine Red I had never seen, that was nice and he had the red eye les Paul, but I somehow wanted to hear the Duesenberg.

Epic brother ....
Jason is epic. Amazing you played with him. I would love to hear it.
Was he nice or a jerk?

Fucking amazing.
That boy can SANG
Chris Knight also another great story teller song writer not recognized enough.
This song was my intro to this whole genre of incredible country but not pop country music thank you so much
Always was just amazed of the prophets lyrics but lately enjoy his guitar playing . I think he just gets better and better on the fret
I can’t stop going back to this song… he is definitely one of those unforgettable/irreplaceable artist’s

We played this song at our wedding. Thank you for being a part of our wonderful memories

One of my fav sights is Jason Isbell playing that yellow guitar.
*Goldtop
It's a short list of guys whose music feels more real than Jason Isbell's.
brspo1987 amen 2 that 100% real
who's on the list?

Agreed. I don’t think there’s anyone I’d put ahead but definitely a couple I’d put on his level. Either way few things ring truer than those words
It's crazy that there are people who have the same interest as you Jason is such a gift
This song means so much to me, thanks jason

beverly37620 Jason stuff is awesome, I mean Drive By Truckers are okay, but the songs he wrote and performed and all his solo stuff just tops It Off.

Can't get enough of this. Slept on DBT for way to long.
Wow my new favorite song the lyrics amazing the riffs and the 400s expressions while singing with…
Jimbo! :) look at that suit y'all are great.
Smashingly wonderful!
Shot at WorkPlay in Birmingham. Great show.

How can people dislike
Love your style
I like it.
Thank you so much for covering this song. One of my good friends who passed away introduced me to this song about 14 years ago and I just found it! 🙏

Grinding the gears
Are there any bad Jason Isbell songs? I have yet to hear any of his stuff that isn't tremendously great!
There’s one. Someday I swear I’ll find it.
I wasn't actually sure if he wrote this one... it seem very Patterson Hood-ish..
I see what you're saying but nope, pure Isbell, down to the father's real job. Very DBTs... "the dirty south"
I thought this was a Cooley song
I'm "lost for words" at how familiar sounding this song is...Does Polly Samson get a writing credit?
Cognition
Fake British Accent...lol which one would that be then..great stuff..
Albert's daughter?
