The song "What's Your Name" makes "But Not Tonight" sound like a masterpiece! Funny how Martin questioned that person's sexuality when people have been questioning his for 30 years!
+Daisy Suspiria Ah, I see. I didn't know anything about Simon, until I watched this video, because I have no TV; and I'm not even sure if it comes on TV in the U.S.
I'm in London UK, and Simon is a young , talented, witty, gay jewish tv presenter, comedian...He is wonderful! :) There is a show in the UK called Nevermind the Buzzcocks (loosely based on Sex Pistols' Nevermind the Bollocks album) It is a hilarious panel game with celebrities...and Simon presented it at one point but he does a lot of other stuff in the UK... He is the kind of person who is able to get away with asking a lot of controversial questions... And he was presenting The Big Ones which were meant to be really off the cuff , weird questions... He did id with Placebo and others.. xxx
Brilliant, I LOVE this sort of humor! I always imagined it'd be a lot of fun to hang around with them. I still think Martin is the kookiest of them all :D Just to think this is the guy who wrote all THOSE gorgeous, dark, moody songs!
I just favorited this. I love that they aren't snobs, even though they could be since they're so talented. It's good to know they are very witty, even though their music can be very serious. Love them!
This is so fricking funny! You can see from their studio clips that they all have a great sense of humor and this just proves it. I laughed so hard I made spit marks on the computer screen--especially at Martin's parts!
Just needed this tonight.I'd just finished watching some from the Violator through Devotional period and they had brought me down. This quick shotgun approach makes them answer so quickfire and fun.
i agree with fletch that world in my eyes is the best song. Im 15 and violator was the first album I got. my dad gave it to me and i fell in love with it.
Simon Le Bon's comment, while seeming nice on the surface, is really a put-down. The finger-waving and feigned straining of memory on Simon's part, plus the "like your stuff, keep it up" bit, implied that Duran Duran was a bigger, more established band than Depeche Mode, that the latter were just an up-and-comer or not as good. (Makes me wonder when that exchange between David and Simon happened).
I have lost count of how many times I've seen this interview and it cracks me up every time. I love the interviewer shamelessly flirting with them and pouring all over Martin! Whenever I need cheering up this is the video I go to. When was it conducted?
***** The only good song by Duran is Save a Prayer. Everything else they done are disposable. Depeche Mode, on the other hand, are legends. Duran Duran simply cannot compare.
I think this story was from 1982 or something when they were on "top of the pops" .Duran duran were one of the biggest band on earth at that moment , Depeche Mode had just started so probably Simon were a little bit arrogant. They were young too and this things happen. Well, now we can say whose the biggest score innit :)))
I love Condemnation. I dig Freelove, But not tonight, A question of Lust, Insight, Sometimes, Somebody, Nothing is impossible, songs from the lasr album, etc...songs from the first album...
Смешное интервью,но всё равно они такие серьёзные,прям до ужаса,особенно Дэйв.Я думаю если бы такое интервью сделали с ними в году 93 - 94 было куда веселее,по известным фанатам причинам
As much as i like Duran Duran, they are merely a singles band, while Depeche Mode have fantastic singles AND album tracks which could easily be singles.
It took a while..but they were young too! But it's true, when Vince left they really became a proper band!I think they gave their best thinking they weren't' good enough..but they were wrong! ;)
I remember an article posted in a magazine many years ago(80's)describing Martin's teeth as "a wonky set of choppers". I hate to say it but I miss those choppers. I know Martin, I know, you had to do what you had to do. I just miss them, that's all :| Great interview.
@morrisondan definitley, but i do find Duran Duran's bass player John Taylor a quite good one, and i like a couple of tunes, but thats it, not in the same league as DM for sure
What was Martin Gore favourite song ? :), - Hm . I find it difficult to pick one myself, - they have composed countless good songs! . Only real competitor i can think of is Gary Numan, - but only logic since he is considered pioneer of commercial electronic music.
Don't tell me, don't tell me............keep up the good work. Funny from a band who hasn't done anything creative for almost 20 years. Dave your the man but get Alan back in.
The song "What's Your Name" makes "But Not Tonight" sound like a masterpiece! Funny how Martin questioned that person's sexuality when people have been questioning his for 30 years!
+Skye ID That was the whole point, Simon Amstell is openly gay :)

Wow, you know when Martin Gore questions your sexuality you're fucked!

sometimes i fall off chairs
Makes me miss Alan even more.

I just favorited this. I love that they aren't snobs, even though they could be since they're so talented. It's good to know they are very witty, even though their music can be very serious. Love them!

Just needed this tonight.I'd just finished watching some from the Violator through Devotional period and they had brought me down. This quick shotgun approach makes them answer so quickfire and fun.
My two (or four) favourite things in one video. Marvelous. Marvelous indeed.
I lost it at the last question.
Love these guys they are so cheaky and funny🌹
i agree with fletch that world in my eyes is the best song. Im 15 and violator was the first album I got. my dad gave it to me and i fell in love with it.
Who is the interviewer? He is Brilliant! Engaging and interesting questions. Not your run of the mill crap.

***** The only good song by Duran is Save a Prayer. Everything else they done are disposable. Depeche Mode, on the other hand, are legends. Duran Duran simply cannot compare.
+Mutant Baby I hold them both on the same level but DM has deeper songs with meaning.
+steph abo early stuff of DD was very poetic an deep. F.i. The chauffeur
-Interviewer: 'What is the best song by Depeche Mode?'
-David Gahan: 'For me, I think, probably Condom Nation'.
;-)
FUNNY! Never seen before! Thank you very much!
Haha, Martin rocks :D It's really funny!
Where the f*ck were Duran Duran in the last 30 years... #DepecheMode always & forever! Great interview!
I think this story was from 1982 or something when they were on "top of the pops" .Duran duran were one of the biggest band on earth at that moment , Depeche Mode had just started so probably Simon were a little bit arrogant.

I cannot rave enough about this interview. I recommend it for EVERY DM super-fan!!! THNAK YOU SO MUCH!
"i like the drunk one especially."
"i like to drink."
I love Condemnation. I dig Freelove, But not tonight, A question of Lust, Insight, Sometimes, Somebody, Nothing is impossible, songs from the lasr album, etc...songs from the first album...
Duran Duran used be my favorite band until I discovered DM in the early 90's, DD is fun, but after DM, I grew. DM is the real deal.
2:57 The exchange about PJ Harvey was probably my favourite bit.
Does Andy Fletcher remind anyone else of the comedian Sean Lock?
Смешное интервью,но всё равно они такие серьёзные,прям до ужаса,особенно Дэйв.Я думаю если бы такое интервью сделали с ними в году 93 - 94 было куда веселее,по известным фанатам причинам
Hilarious!!! Sooo funny! Well done!!!
ok, burst out crying with laughter .... I hope that the gentlemen of the Depeche Mode also had a great time.
I take a bath once a week AND a shower every day !!! But Ilove you British people, Ican't help it !
totally agree. I have speak & spell and listened many times, you can hear they were young and "freshmen"
these guys are awesome hahaha cheers
As much as i like Duran Duran, they are merely a singles band, while Depeche Mode have fantastic singles AND album tracks which could easily be singles.
Martin is so funny
That was FUNNY !! Great stuff .. :)
It took a while..but they were young too! But it's true, when Vince left they really became a proper band!I think they gave their best thinking they weren't' good enough..but they were wrong! ;)

YEEAAH FROWNIES! I use those! xD
Divertidos, pero no lo sufisiente. Son Cantantes Europeos, quiza es eso.( ? )
Me gustan, todavia,
4:47 it reminds me to Robert De Niro in the movie "Analyse this" when he says to the therapist "you....youuu!... you are very good you!"
That is funny-they are cool, fair play
that was very entertaining
Delirious when Dave talk about his encounter with Simon Le Bon
my god fletch is great...johnson baby powder ahahah...I love him!!!

I do not want to live in a world were people refer to Simon Amstell as "The Interviewer"...
best interview ever LOLOLOL !!!!!!
Don't tell me, don't tell me............keep up the good work. Funny from a band who hasn't done anything creative for almost 20 years. Dave your the man but get Alan back in.
Brilliant interview. :P
Dave Gahan and Michael Stipe live on the same street? Who would have thought. :-)
Alan would never have been able to do this interview! Lol. He would have walked out.
What people dont usually realise is that they are very very dry in humour and dont like a lot of the bullshit that goes along with promo/interview
great interview... funny as hell
Great At all !!!
I guess it depends how he said it. Could be considered as a bit "Ahh, interesting outfit. I see what you were trying to do there."
parfait mon dieu !!!!!
dave tu es parfait
THEREWASMOREHONESTYINTHATINTERVIEWTHANMOST.
Did you find the space button since that comment? ;)
